I was thinking about getting a new US since my last one (cheapy one) broke. Do those of you that have US notice a difference when you clean them in the US vs. other methods (soapy water/windex with a baby brush)?

So I take it USs are a Shaper Image brand? They''re not available elsewhere? The only good pieces of jewelry I have are my engagement ring and my wedding band (oh, and my FI''s ring when we get it). I have other pieces of jewelry but it''s not high end quality so I don''t think it would be worth putting in the US.

Right now I use a baby toothbrush, hot water, and mild dishwashing soap. Scrub, scrub, scrub, then dry with a lint-free paper towel (we prefer Viva).

They have some relatively inexpensive items for $10 to $20. If you don''t mind spending a little extra money purchasing one of the items there then you can get the US of the additional 50% off price of $49.98.

FI got my US for Christmas at a Sharper Image store that was going out of business. He got the US and two jewelry cleaner kits for under $20. Maybe there are local stores that will be doing the same? Although you run the risk of them running out of stock.

Sweet! I am going to swing by one today. I would pay the $49.95, but not the $99.99, just can''t justify it for just my wedding set (I have some other jewelry, but am not so OCD about cleaning those). Can you put platinum in there too?

Yes, I put my platinum ring in there. I wonder if it's safe for CZs? Anyone know? I put my CZ and white gold ring in it too, but take it out quickly after reading in the Tiffany jewelry care guide that CZs shouldn't be put subject to USs. It says that platinum is fine though.

For example, these companies filed and are now out of it and doing pretty well:

Well... I went out and bought 2! (one I am going to give to my mom though)

FYI: I talked to the sales rep and they are COURT ORDERED not to accept any giftcards, people with giftcards are SOL and he said they will be shutting down 50% of their stores. They don't know what they are going to do yet regarding warranties or returns. They only one in my town is probably shutting down, they are advising the employees to start looking for new jobs

I got home and cleaned my rings with it! It makes a funny noise which I wasn't really expecting LOL. My other cheapy one was quiet, but not nearly as good! I might have to take some more pictures, my ring is SUPER clean compared to the day I did the photoshoot, LOL don't know if the difference would show on a photo though.

If/when the store in my town goes out of business and is having sales, I may purchase another one for a back up

ETA: they are much smaller in person then on the website... I was picturing this somewhat massive thing. I am so glad it is smaller!

Many companies file bankruptcy then come out of it later....Macy''s has filed so many times I can''t count over the last 10-15 years, and they are still around!!

Not super surprised to hear SI is having issues. Brookstone, Frontgate, SI...all of those companies sell a lot of the same things and I always wonder how they can all be doing fabulous in biz.
