Gypsy, I love your taste in invitations and have been following along. It's helped me a lot in my own invitation search. I was hoping you can tell me how the White Aisle cardstock compares to the Checkerboard and Carlson Craft paper? I'm a sucker for thick cardstock too. Are all the Checkerboard invitations the same thickness, or are some thicker than others?

urseberry, sorry! Just saw this. Thank you for the compliments!!! I'm so glad my search has helped you! I haven't ever seen a checkerboard invite book with ALL of thier invitations selections in them. BUT I've ordered about 7 samples from them and ALL of their papers are amazing. Their French envelopes are TDF as well. I would totally encourage you to order a sample for yourself. I love their invitaitons.

Hi Gypsy, no worries, I only posted the question today! I was hoping you could specifically compare the Checkerboard paper to the White Aisle paper, since I have a Checkerboard sample but am now considering White Aisle, and I know you''ve held samples of both.

White Aisle is VERY nice paper, has a ragged edge. But it''s nothing compared to the checkerboard. The checkerboard is just Lux. All my checkerboard samples were 2 bucks or so. I would really recommend getting yourself a sample to give it feel yourself. : )

Got it. Thanks! Yes, I should probably get a sample of White Aisle to make sure. I love so many different invitations that I''m tempted to order samples of all of them, and the costs are really adding up.

Oh I totally get that. Happened to me too. Still... just one more can''t hurt right. Sorry, sorry, I''m enabling!

Anyway, sorry for the threadjack. Back to your new Ebay invitations, I think they look great! They are much more layered and dimensional than your other choices, and I think they look more impressive and expensive for that reason. The new sample also has a very classic, symmetrical look that is different from your other choices. I also think it''s the most formal of all your options.

I was just so impressed with them when I opened the envelopes. I got two other samples, just as impressive from the same seller. Her work is lovely. And at 3.00 each for a set, the price is great. I've asked her for complete pricing, including out envelope and reply envelope printing. And like I said, mailing is a concern. I've avoided anything with a square shape or ribbon to save shipping costs, but ... these just really caught my eye. They are very different than the other's I've looked at. These suit John's taste quite a bit more than the more floral flat panel looks I've been leaning toward. As for formal, the wedding seems to be getting more formal, honestly, than I expected.

Even though I really like them. Don't worry about saving my feelings or anything. Give me your honest opinions of them. Please. They are an investment financially, so I'd like to make sure that the choice is the right one.

I liked #3 best because it was the most balanced looking. On most of the other ones it seemed as though the emphasis was on the design rather than the words, and with the "Lily" it seems as though the design was still intricate and beautiful but was in the background-you know what I''m saying? And to me, the last two were awfully plain after looking at all the White Aisle ones, and with what I know about your wedding so far I''m not sure that minimalistic is the way to go.

Plus I think the lacy look on the invitation pays tribute to your dress, and you can never go wrong with that!

Freke I just got some sample invites from an ebay seller. If you scroll down on the previous page, you''ll see them. I''d love your honest opinion on them. I''m leaning toward them. But I still love the White Aisle invites as well. Would you mind taking a peek? I value your opinion.

I love them! These are perfect! I agree that the orange is too...fruity? Too citrus. But in a burnt orange I think it''d look great! Or even a lighter mango would be good too. Also I''d definitely change the black border to brown otherwise you run the risk of looking too Halloweenish. Kind of. Just the dang color scheme. But these are great! I like them the best.

Is it bad that in looking at these invitation sites, I''ve picked out my own? What the heck, I''m not even engaged yet!

YAY. I''m glad you liked them. Too fruity indeed. That made me chuckle. I think Brown is the way I''m leaning. For sure.

And no, I don''t think it''s bad that you''ve picked out your own. Just as I don''t think it''ll be bad if you change your mind 1000 times like I have. LOL. It''s inevitable. You see, you like, you want. Rinse and repeat.

I''m going to ask her to move the little design on the reply card up... spacing wise, it''s too close to the wording. I just realized. But she''s really nice and flexible.

Gypsy, I just saw this. I love the invitations you''ve chosen! Yay!

Gypsy,
Those are gorgeous, so luxe. I was pulling for the callas till seeing your ebay find. Brave woman, that is a great price for what you are getting. Also if the wedding is getting more formal, that lovely last one really isn''t very formal...minimalist as you described it. Anyway, it is a nice thing to have too many wonderful choices.

Ooh, I really like those invites you found on ebay. I agree with going with a burnt orange ribbon and brown instead of black for the border. I love those, every elegant and also contemporary.

I started looking at invitations over the past two weekends and although I was loving the flat panel ones you posted earlier, the ones I am leaning towards now are pocket styles, too. But the one I liked was in the $5/set range so I need to keep looking. Maybe I can just steal your idea

...for $3/set that is a good price. Do you have to put those pieces together or do they come pre-assembled? (okay, I admit that I am dreading any diy, haha). Also, what kind of printing is it...thermo or offset? Have you had a chance to find out how much postage is required? That may be a deal breaker for me...I have to send out at least 200!

Okay, I clicked the link and it said they are laser printed...which will have a similar look to offset. I haven''t decided on which kind of printing I want to go with. If I had no budget, I would do letterpress but I don''t think it is going to be affordable.

They are laser printed, and you know what... the number of people who are going to be staring at them THAT closely are so few... lol, that I just really can''t imagine, for ME, paying the price difference. Cause I''m one of the people that wouldn''t notice.

I decided to do a burnt orange frame (instead of black or brown) today, white pocket, burnt orange ribbon, burnt orange design, black writing, burnt orange names. That is after I find out about the mailing! If the mailing costs too much I''m going for with White Aisle, probably the Lily I posted earlier, or the fall invitations seen here: http://www.whiteaisle.com/fall_invitation.htm which I''m leaning the MOST toward from white aisle.

I''ll keep you posted about postage. John''s going to the post office tomorrow. So, we''ll see. If it''s too much, I''ll definitely do the white aisle.

Another thing about the ebay ones, as a caveat, is that they don''t include return mailing address printing on the envelopes, she doesn''t have the ability to do that. SO I have to ask to see what it would cost to do that too. And whiteaisle includes that. Which is nice and stress free.

The burnt orange frame will look nice, that''s great that they have that option. You are totally right about the printing. It''s just that I am in marketing and have some experience in printing so I care about how a piece is printed but I agree that hardly anyone one else would. In the end, I can''t really justify spending all the extra money for fancy printing either. For the return address, is there any way you can run them through your printer? If you have a printer that can feed the envelope straight through without rolling it, that may work. I wonder if a local print shop can do them for you. How were you planning to address the front?

I hope the postage isn''t too much. Either way, the white aisle invites are also very nice.

I was thinking of just taking them to a local print shop and asking them if they would print them up, and what they would cost. I don''t think my printer here can do it, and I know the one at work can''t. The whiteaisle ones are nice, and I KNOW the shipping on them would be fine. And I really do love tea length invitations.

Eighty cents to ship them.

Not too bad.

Gypsy, your eBay finds are gorgeous. I don''t know why I didn''t see this earlier. Congratulations. I love the ribbon and like you, I try not to look at anything that is square (for postage reasons) but those are TDF!

Thank you GTN. The ebay lady, Edith, is really nice and accomodating too. Which is always a bonus.
