HI:

In 21 years of marriage, besides an emerald cross, the only other piece of jewellery I didn''t pick out myself was my ER. That said, he did ask my preference and I told him I liked solitaires. He did a great job. I have subsequently upgraded and on that score his input, was, minimal.

Try on every shape and style of ring that time affords; you''ll find something that is just "for you". Good luck!

cheers--Sharon

I picked out my ring! After going back to the store about 6 times...I went with the ring that I kept going back to...4 different visits.

It is a 1.22 princess cut center stone, (F color, SI1 clarity, certified...soooo sparkly and clear!) .64 cts. in the setting. Baguette sides that are a bit wider under the center stone and then taper down narrower, pave hand engraved on both sides of the ring, platinum. All full of sparkle, a little antique, tiimeless, sexyness and class. Like me..haha

The ring looks incredible on my size 4 1/2 finger! I tried on more settings, looked at larger stones that had visible inclusions or color of J and decided that the princess in the ring was the one. I held it next to a 1.52 princess and didn''t see much of a difference either. The other loose stones seemed small to me or didn''t have the same sparkle. I thought the radiant was too rectangular for my long skinny fingers, and the cushion, too round.

BF now has to surprise me with it and propose. And they will make a matching engraved, pave baguette wedding band that will sit flush and will taper, just like my e-ring.

Don''t worry..I will post pics..hopefully our tips will get better so he can get it soon! (im a cocktail waitress and he is a barteder..how cliche''!)

Wow!!! Sounds beautiful! Congrats to you both. Can''t wait to see pics!!!

I told my bf to go by himself and our jeweler wouldn''t let him design the ring by himself! lol

She said, "I know Stephanie and she''s a very picky girl and BELIEVE ME, from my experience of thousands of couples you are smart for bringing her along." Quote on Quote!

Wrong? No, I don''t think so. I hate to disparage an entire sex, but a good portion of guys are too clueless to pick out a ring on their own. Most guys just aren''t very observant. The men who come here for assistance are awesome, but I don''t think they represent the gender at large.

My husband did pick out my ring by himself, but he is one of those few guys with impeccable taste who usually knows exactly what I like. And he offered to return the ring and pick out something else together if I didn''t like it. But I don''t think there is anything wrong with ring shopping together and getting exactly what you want. You will probably wear your ring for several years before you even think of upgrading it, so you may as well have exactly what you want and save you & your future DH a lot of discontent.

Congratulations from one princess lover to another!

Can''t wait for you to post pictures!

I think I''m old school, but I''ve always been of the opinion that...how could my girlfriend trust me for the rest of her life in decisions and situations that are REALLY important, if she can''t even trust me to pick out a ring. That''s just my views though.

So true though! I am sure there are plenty of men out there that may get offended at the fact that they cannot pick out the ring..I mean,
They are the ones proposing, asking us to marry them. It is a gift from them that the are paying for. So I think if the man wants to give some imput, he has the right to.

Which is when I ask my next question...

Let''s say you have a budget, but go over. Are you chipping in to help pay for your ring or is your BF ''allowing'' you (hehe) to spend more?
hmmm

I have not been proposed to yet and have no idea when it will happen but my boyfriend has very detailed pics of the ring I want and knows the stone shape i want. So while I will not be picking the actual stone with him, I led him in the right direction and gave him names of vendors that won't try to rip him off. I do want it to be somewhat of a surprise, so I made sure he knows what I want but won't now when he gets it or when he will propose. I don't think he had a problem with this at all, he had admitted he knows nothing about diamonds or rings and had I not told him anything he would have probably gone to the mall and overpaid for a low quality ring. My boyfriend would also not be the type to come on pricescope and do hours of research, though maybe if pricescope had sports scores on the main page he might consider it!

if you guys are getting married then you should start thinking of his money as yours and your money as his. if you''ve come to a budget and it''s just based on what he feels comfortable spending but it doesn''t take into consideration some extra savings you have or extra sacrafices you''re willing to make in the near future, then maybe you need to re-evaluate the budget with those things in mind.

when my guy said how much he felt comfortable spending, i thought it sounded great, but, well, you know...you start looking and then all of the sudden you wish the budget was a little higher...
so, my guy said "look, i said X amt and this is why...(and he explained why), but if you can agree to spend less this year on this or that, then we can spend more on the ring."

so, i think it''s more about looking at the big picture when you''re making such a significant purchase

Making decisions (which I hope you will be making together) are a tad different than picking out a piece of jewelry. I think my husband makes great financial decisions and can even pick out a nice shade of paint now and then. But can he pick out a ring and a diamond that *I* will wear the rest of my life without my help? I dunno, never tried it... but I don''t trust him any less for it.
