What would you do, if literally days before you were about to get engaged and go on vacation, someone told you that a "higher power" (leaving it vague because I don''t want to break any rules) told her that you don''t belong with the person that you''re with, and you need to break it off?

That''s what happened to me yesterday.

Two days a week I go to this married couple''s house and clean. The wife has muscular dystrophy and can''t do some things. The husband is usually at work, so normally it''s just me and the woman...and over the course of time we''ve gotten to know eachother and have become sort of friends.

I''ve told her (maybe too much) about my life. I talk to her about my BF, and where I grew up, and how bad I can''t wait to move back there one day, and sometimes complain about my BF''s work hours, and how we hardly get to spend any time together.

I told her last week that I think BF and I will be getting engaged soon, and she looked at me and asked, "Yeah, but is he the one for you?!" and I said, "I think so!". I dunno....when someone asks me a question like that, I feel like they are expecting me to pull out a hanky and wipe off my forehead while I swoon over my prince charming. I''m not like that. I don''t feel like I have to sell my BF to people, and frankly, questions like that make me SO uncomfortable because people usually only ask those types of questions if they are getting a certain vibe from you.

So over the course of time, she''s kind of let me know that she has the "gift" of seeing into people''s lives, and when she sees something she''ll hold it inside until the "higher power" tells her it''s okay to release the info. So yesterday she sat me down and talked to me for TWO HOURS about how my BF isn''t a bad guy, but if I marry him I''m going to have a very mundane and boring marriage...and she is feeling quite strongly that I need to pack my bags and move back to Maine without him, because this isn''t in my "life plan".

So naturally I''m just sitting there listening to her tell me this stuff, and she is coming off as very concerned while I just sit there feeling extremely uncomfortable and PISSED OFF, yet I can''t say anything because I''m an unconfrontational boob. So I just listen to the whole thing...and she swears to me that she won''t bring it up again, because it no longer has anything to do with her, and it''s up to me to work out.

Yikes.

Background info on this lady....she''s 35, has been married for 10 years. Before she was married, she bounced around from state to state. She was heavily into drugs, and was a very well known dealer. Someone ratted her out, but she made a deal with the police to rat out the people above her and she got out of any jail time. Very soon after that, she went to this school (cult) where she slept in a trailer in the middle of TX with 14 other girls and one man. She met her future husband very soon after that. On their first date he asked her to marry him, and they''ve been together ever since. I''ve always gotten a weird creepy vibe from them, but they are both so nice that I figured they had to be harmless.

I talked to my mom about it, and she said that it sounds like she replaced one addiction with another. When it comes to this "higher power", it''s more than addicted, it''s like infatuated obsession. I can''t explain it, but it is NOT normal. But I figured that she was harmless. Now I don''t want to go back there....I''m freaked out....she has me questioning my relationship...(well not my relationship, but what I did or said to make her feel the need to tell me these things) and I''m supposed to work there for the next month and I feel like I don''t want to wear my ring there for fear that she''ll confront me again! I mean, is this crazy, or what????

What a nut job. Don''t listen to her. Sounds like her years of drug use have caught up to her and then some.

yikes...

well...hopefully she will stick to her word and not bring it up again!. If she does, just tell her that your own higher power is telling you this is the right thing for you!. Only you know. I don''t know anything about your realtionship...but I think we are all pretty good judges of how we live our own lives!.

I don''t really believe in people with higher powers either. Just recently (like 2 days ago) a friend of mine called me super excited because she found this lady that "i''ve got to go see!". She said "it changed my life, I adore her, she''s the best!!". Anyway, I''m always curious so I asked more. The lady does your astral readings based on your birthday, etc. She charges *only* $120!!...haha. My friend was acting pretty erratic...and was telling me about another good friend of mine that also went to see this lady and "loves her". Loves her?...they just met this person!. So I asked, how did it change your life?....well, obviously she can''t share! hehe.

I thought the whole thing was silly so I made a joke and she didn''t like it at all. She got upset at me so I just apologized. I just said, I don''t really need anyone to change my life...I''m pretty happy with it!!!!. In my opinion, when people feel weak or when they feel something is lacking...they will pretty much hang on to anything. Then there are these people with "higher powers", or people with a "special gift"...or sometimes even a religious organization that takes advantage of this and they try to suck you up!. It''s sad really...my two friends are truly obsessed with this lady with the "special gift"....and I just don''t get it. I''m all for personal growth and finding a path in your life that makes you happy. I have gone to "fortune tellers", or read my horoscope...and have had an astral reading before...but I take it with a grain of salt. In my opinion, there is only one higher power...and that is your faith or whatever it is you believe in....and that higher power is with you (is not you, but it is with you).

In your case, I don''t know what her intentions were....but I personally would not want to hear anymore of it. If she persists to make comments or even give you looks, I would just cut her off my life.

Good luck!!!

M~

and to answer the initial question...yes, I think she is coo-coo! haha

M~

Well, she could be nuts, but she could also be reading the same vibe from you that I sometimes get. Which is that you AREN'T sure about your BF (i have gleaned this from past posts-please feel free to disregard if it isn't a correct thought!). If I remember correctly you were thisclose to moving home and leaving the relationship until he started looking at diamonds.

So while yes I do think she's a bit nuts, she could also just be a very intuitive person and is just reading vibes that you are giving off...

Just a thought...

In regards to Mandarines post, I do think there are people out there who are "Gifted" but they certainly arent charging for their services or trying to become famous. I followed Sylvia Browne for a long time. I always wanted to know if she was the real deal or not so I coughed up the $700 fee
32.gif
38.gif
to find out if she was the real deal. My conclusion? She is the biggest crock of poopoo around. The only thing she is gifted in is thievery & preying on peoples emotions.

Neat freak, that is possible....(I don''t know any history of the relationship)...so if it''s just a vibe she should leave the higher powers alone hehe... then maybe she wouldn''t sound crazy and she could actually just talk like a friend...

Lol I TOTALLY AGREE. But I think a lot of "psychics" are just very skilled at reading body language and emotion, yet think they have a "gift". She might have convinced herself over time that a "higher power" is talking to her, when it''s really her own conscience!

There certainly are people that are gifted in the sense that they can read you better and see things that others (or ourselves) can''t see. I do agree with that.

Oh, geez. She sounds nutty as a hostess fruit pie to me.

Several things come to mind:

Don''t give TMI to people you work for until you get to know their background. Did you know her background before you started cleaning for them and getting friendly?

Listen to your creep meter. If it goes off, heed the warning.

Can you get out of this gig? I''d want out. Now.

I don''t think you should second guess your relationship on the advice of this woman.

...now does her advice sound legitimate?

Now hear this, this opinion is coming from a higher power...ME!! I would do everything I could to get relocated. There is no telling what this one is capable of. It sounds as if she is laying the ground work to work on you the way the cult thing worked on her. She somehow is smelling weakness from you...

You are probably a very kind and considerate person and a wonderfully thoughtful listener...you express your compassion through your actions. And because of this, it never once occurred to you to stop her and tell her this was none of her business. You were worried about offending her ...and yet she has creeped into your most private area...even altering your thought pattern.

This reminds me of the other poster who was on the fence about allowing strangers to visit her in her home.

There are boundaries best friends hesitate to cross...this woman has no guidlines or compass to direct her what is proper. You must keep your guard up from this point on...I would put nothing past this one.

Please reconsider your position.

Yep, she sounds a lot coo-coo!

I''m going to sound very unromantic here. Marriage (like life in general) is about love, commitment, but, most of all CHOICE!!! You choose to marry this person. You choose to make it work. Sometimes you even choose to love this person even though you may not like him very much at the time. I just don''t buy into the stars aligning, voodoo, hocus pocus, soul mate, ''the one'' kind of thing.

I don''t know what to say about this lady. She could have 1 million and one motivations for telling you these things. You have to know that you want to marry this man and spend the rest of your life with him. That is all you need to know. Don''t let her negativity affect you. If she continues to be a problem, I''d find another home to help at.

Very true...and you know what? I do think that sometimes I come off as negative, but in all actuality I am very content with my relationship. I don''t question my BF''s love for me, but I do sometimes wonder if I hadn''t written him that letter if he''d still be buying the diamond. And then I read on here that something like 70% of girls have to give a nudge, and it makes me feel better for a while, but I''d be in denial if I thought that "nudge" didn''t push him forward a little bit.

I think that this woman could see that, because I WAS ready to move back home, and she was basically telling me that my fears are right, that this marriage isn''t supposed to happen and he was guilted into it.
Now I don''t know if that''s true, but last night I expressed those fears to BF, and he assured me that he was doing it on his own accord, and letter or no letter he was going to do what he WANTED to do, and he''s always wanted to marry me. He takes marriage very seriously.

So....I dunno.

But yeah, I am very happy in my relationship. Sure, I wish that we could be closer to our families RIGHT NOW and I could be graduated from college RIGHT NOW, but I''m willing to wait a couple years for those things to happen. I just need to check myself before I say anything about my relationship, because I''m obviously giving off the wrong vibe and not expressing my happiness enough.

I knew what she did for a living...she works for a church. Husband is an investment banker. I knew that they loved "higher power" (LOL) and thought that meant that I was going to be in a safe and happy environment.

So this woman knew that I wanted to move back to Maine, but she didn''t know that BF and I came up with a plan to make it happen. She knew that I was feeling a little insecure about BF buying the diamond a couple months after our talk. She knew that BF works a lot and that I wish he was home more. She knew that BF is pretty much supporting me while I go to school and that I sometimes feel bad about that. I''ve told her all of this stuff! And she basically used it against me.
I didn''t think I was coming off as someone who was unhappy with their relationship....I thought I was coming off as someone who is happy in their relationship but can''t wait to be married with a family, live closer to our families, with me being graduated from school and BF running his own business. I thought I was coming off as someone who is EXCITED to get my life started!

In reality, I''m not unhappy at all. A little insecure, yes...but I know our life will be fabulous although I can''t have it all TODAY.
I think in the future instead of saying, "Yeah we''re good, but I can''t wait to get out of TX because I hate it here." I should be saying, "We''re great...everyday we''re a step closer to the life that we want and I couldn''t be happier!"

This is totally about me, and how I come off to people. I just feel like if I''m so positive all the time that it comes off like I''m trying to convince people of something. I can''t explain it, really.

Ohh, I hadn''t honed in on that, but it''s a thought. It''s easier to get someone in a cult if they are cut off from other people. It could be a motivating factor.

This woman was heavily into drugs and was a well known dealer and you are giving this woman thought? C'mon Lucky...it's not even worth consideration. Let this squirrely woman keep her nuts. Do what you know will make you happy!

Oh that is TOTALLY what she''s doing. I guess I forgot to mention that she was set to marry someone a long time ago, and someone told HER that it was the wrong decision (again, from a higher power) and so she abandoned the relationship...and now she couldn''t be happier because she is with the man that she is supposed to be with.

Also, nothing in her life is ever her choice. She''ll be talking to me and be like, "*** told me to go to the store and get watermelon". "I was driving down the road and *** told me to stop and go into this building." Weird stuff like that. And you know what''s so funny about that is that it always seems to have changed her life!!! Get where I''m going? She''s been baiting me for a WHILE and I could sense it. I even talked to my mom about it BEFORE the crazy talk, and I told my mom I could see her sitting me down and having that conversation with me, and she did.

Just little things that she said and did before the talk. She''d be like, "so are you going to the same school next semester?" and I''d tell her yes, and she''d be like, "Oh, I didn''t know if you were going to stay here, or go back to Maine." So in reality she could care less about where I go to school, she was just trying to ask if I was going to run away from my life like SHE did.
She has also told me that the biggest sacrifice that you can make to this "higher power" is to give up everything you own and follow him. Which coincidentally is what SHE did. How funny! I think that is her motive in this, she''s trying to see if I would give up everything and follow the way she did....and if I do, then she would know that she could really influence me in other ways.

I''m a pretty good judge of character, and I can see through people like you wouldn''t believe. Maybe that''s *my* gift. lol. I sensed that this is what was going to happen, and I ignored it. Thank goodness I''m not as vulnerable as she was counting on me being.

I''m a little wary when someone talks about their religion right away because it makes me wonder if they are trying to put forth a certain image that isn''t who they really are. Unfortunately there are people who will prey on others'' belief systems to ingratiate themselves for purposes that are not honorable, and it definitely pegs my creep meter if I get that impression from someone. Telling people they are good Christians and working at the church does not necessarily make them people you want to be involved with, and there are a lot of organizations that pose as churches that suck people dry of their money, resorces and faith. I really believe in listening to your intuition -- if someone seems off, they probably are.

I agree that what you put off in your attitude and demeanor definitely attracts certain things/people back to you. I think it''s great that you are evaluating that and even looking seriously at how you phrase things. Seems to me like you are on the right track, there, and personally that approach has worked for me when I was attracting negative things to me. I find I still need a tune up now and again!

wow she sounds completely insane...wacko, wacko

Well, you already know the answer to your initial question. So what do you plan to do as far as working for them? Are you going to continue? Honestly, there are lots of people who need their homes cleaned and help around the house. You can find another job where you don''t have to deal with this. You thought it was a safe job, but do you still?

I''m pretty torn about going back there. On the one hand, I would LOVE to never step foot in there again! On the other hand I am thisclose to having enough money to pay my tuition, which is due on August 17th. Tuition money is the only reason I took the job. I''m actually still looking for another job, it''s just that with our vacation so close it makes sense to wait until after we get back. But as soon as we get back tuition is due! I think I''m going to talk to my BF tonight and see if he''ll cover me for the balance of whatever I can''t pay. I just feel bad doing that because he just dropped a few grand on a ring for me today. lol.

Yes, *THE* ring...that I will be wearing....in my fabulous marriage and LIFE!

Okay, maybe I''m weird, but I don''t think she sounds crazy. I''m with neatfreak. You have given her information and cues (you said you confide in her) that you may have some misgivings about your relationship with your boyfriend that she has picked up on. Maybe she feels safer (it''s less personal) or has more authority to say it comes from a higher power, but basically all she is doing is giving you unsolicited and it sounds like unwelcome advice about your relationship. How does that make her crazy? (it happens all the time). She even said she wasn''t going to bring it up again, which is more tactful than alot of people out there giving out their opinions. Just let it go.
Don''t shoot the messenger because you don''t like the advice.

This is your brain....this is your brain on drugs. Remember those commercials? She probably had a bad acid flashback or something.

Anyway, I would finish the darn job, get paid, and be utterly professional. If she brings it up, acknowledge her in the animal-training way of zero-response. Her: "You shouldn''t marry that man" You: "Mmmm-hmm, thank you." Just minimal responses with no emotion attached to them. She asks how your relationship is? "Fine, thank you." Just briefly acknolwedge the communication, move on, and steadily resist or deflect any attempts to talk about it with you in this way. And STOP talking about your personal life.

Hey, you know what? I''m all for advice. But if you''re going to give me advice, give me a reason for the advice other than "God told me to tell you...". If you''re concerned, tell me why you are concerned, don''t tell me that my only path to salvation is without my BF. If this is the ONLY way you are able to express your concern for my well being, well, I think it''s a bit psychotic and I''m going to think you''re nuts before I think you care. Like I said before, I have no doubts about marrying BF, and I have no doubts about our life together. I just think it''s funny how much she is reading into things I say. Not wanting to raise my children in the state I live in, and wishing I was out of school so my BF didn''t have to work so hard are IMO hardly big enough issues to dismiss my whole relationship as dysfunctional, unfixable, and dreamt up by the devil to prevent my relationship with God.
20.gif
Especially if BF wants the same things as me and we are working together to get them accomplished. It''s not that I''m "shooting the messenger", it''s that I think the messenger is psychotic. But like I said, I obviously came off a certain way to her.

There''s an easy solution for that dilemma. It''s called the PITA premium. Call her up and say, "I''m so sorry, but I''ve recently had to increase my rate. My fee for cleaning your home is now [insert 20-30% upcharge here]"

If she pays the extra money, that compensates you for her being a whacko. If she passes, you don''t have to see her anymore. It''s a win-win situation.

And STOP talking about your personal life.
lol...TOTALLY. Apparently it''s getting me in trouble on here too. I don''t think I''m a huge negative Nancy. (although I can be negative) We''ve had many positive discussions about my relationship too, about my BF switching careers, about how amazing Italy was, about how he is my best friend, about how we met, about the first time we said I love you, about how we plan to raise our kids....
It''s not like I just sat there and bitched about my BF to her all day. She told me that she wanted to move to NC because she doesn''t want to adopt and raise a child down here, and that she hates TX, but God is telling her she has to stay for a few more years. I told her that I don''t want to raise my kids in TX either, and I hate it too, and I can''t wait to move either. God is making her stay, but according to her the devil is making ME stay. The whole thing is just so ridiculous.

Given that you are aware of her background and is uncomfortable with her comments, are you going to consider stop working there for your own safety? What she is saying does not sound does not make her sound normal..

I am kind of scared for my safety. Sometimes she gets so passionate when she''s talking (actually preaching) to me that she actually starts CRYING. On one hand, I can''t picture her doing anything bad to me, but on the other hand, she''s proven to me that she''s crazy and I feel like it would be better to get out now.

My mom totally doesn''t want me to go back. She hasn''t wanted me to go back there since I told her about the "cult in a box" lol!!!! (I crack myself up...trailer? box? cult? nevermind. lol.)

But BF, as laid back as he is and how willing he is to let stuff like this roll off his shoulders, thinks I should just ignore her and go back. He thinks that since she SAID she won''t bring it up again, that she really won''t.

My mom totally doesn''t want me to go back. She hasn''t wanted me to go back there since I told her about the ''cult in a box'' lol!!!!

I would not step foot in her house again!

Clearly she has issues and if a "higher being" is telling her what to do, what makes you think this "higher being" won''t tell her to harm you??
