Posted this on Reddit and one user commented that it looks bleached. I’m new to buying jade so now really sure. I paid $150 for it and the seller had really good reviews.

Any thoughts? I have one last jade piece I bough that I should be receiving within the next 3 weeks but that comes with a certificate from a trusted lab so I’m not worried.

I don't think it's possible to tell definitively whether the piece has been treated based on pictures (unless there's clear signs), but the coarse grains shown 2nd and 3rd picture seem to indicate that it's natural. Furthermore the hand pics shown in 4th and 5th doesn't show signs of notable web-like etching surfaces that's notorious in bleached jadeite. If possible, you can try shining a UV light onto the ring to see if it shows signs of any treatment first if that doesn't reassure you, then it's better to send it off for certification, especially since you paid $150 for a nice moss-in-snow type of ring like that.

It looks obviously been treated. The texture and color do not look natural.

Thanks a lot for contributing. I don’t know what to think, the user below is saying it doesn’t look natural lol.

I have 2 other pieces I ordered online, the most expensive one comes with certificates but the other 2 are $150 & $300 pieces without certificates.

I’d be really broken to get attached to any of my pieces and later find out it’s bleached when I thought it was natural grade A jade :(

This is the other piece coming in the mail that has no certificates. Any thoughts?

I really have my doubts. Especially as I see rings from certified dealers going for more no less that $400 USD usually.

Vendors use strong acid and coloring to treat bad quality jades. The acid removed the fractures and the coloring got filled insides to make it look green. Acid treated and dyed jade is not really good for health. I have no idea how those stuff got into Etsy’s market in America. This is just my kind suggestion if anyone bought them please do no wear them or at least do not wear too often. They could possibly cause skin allergies or even cancer because of the chemicals they used could be cancerous.

I've bought treated jade before, and the pictures where you're not wearing the ring look like dead ringers for treated jadeite. The verdict is still out on the pendant; I can't tell.

Oh hey I know that seller! I personally never bought from them before, but some fellow jade collectors I know have bought Ming's jade piece from them and don't have doubts that what they're selling is untreated jade pieces.

This is very sad indeed. I will no longer be purchasing any jade pieces that come without official certification.

Thanks for your feedback again :)

I actually found that seller through this forum and this forum through a Google search. Someone had commented that they sell natural jade pieces. I had messaged the seller and was told it’s natural Jade. They told me they have no certificates however as they are estate pieces they receive from an agent of theirs and sell as is.

The reviews were really good tho so that gave me some peace of mind.

Yeah, it's best you tread with caution regarding pieces that don't come with certification and costs more than a pretty penny (unless you know that seller is trusted to sell natural pieces). Also the more I look at the ring, the more I'm not sure if it's bleached or not. So do keep us updated if you do decide to send it for certification!

No prob! Although one thing to note is one fellow buyer of theirs has said that they may come off brusque should you ask them more in-depth about their items, so do keep in mind should you want to ask lots of questions.

After what I’ve read here I’ve decided to stop wearing it for now. No more money spending for a while. I went on a little soil myself jade shopping spree buying this ring and 2 pendants.

How does the pendant included look in terms of bleaching or now clear enough?

I can relate lol. They weren’t so bad with me however just not Grade A customer service.

The first time I asked, I was told they could do a check if I wanted and after checking they told me that it’s natural jade, they didn’t mention grade or anything. They said they have a dealer who gets their jade pieces for them.

The pendant from how I see it, has more than enough signs that says it's untreated, where there's alot of dark brown colors next to the green with some of it being hidden through the carving, with the green veins itself looking natural. The texture of the jade piece itself can be categorized as waxy or waxy ice at best (蜡质冰 in Chinese) which that itself becomes 蜡质冰翡翠 (Waxy Ice Jadeite in English)
If you wish to learn more in-depth about jadeite jade and nephrite jade. I think GIA, Mason Kay, Ultimate Jadeite has articles describing it's history and explaining jade treatments to you, but I personally think the Chinese side of the internet explains this more if you know what they're saying. :???: Which I would use Google Translate myself to even have a chance to understand what's being written.

I have probably said thanks a thousand times now but I really appreciate this. I’m 27 and fell in love with jade when I was 10 after reading a gem book, but never got to collect until now. I have been trying to find all the jade videos and articles I can to learn even more about jade. I haven’t found as many but will take your suggestions

No prob! I myself gotten into jade probably 2 and half years ago now. It's definitely pricier to collect these type of stones (let's be honest.. any gemstone collecting is pricy  ), and challenging to collect natural ones but I truly believe that you can get yourself a piece you'll treasure forever and more that you can give away to your loved ones if you wish. So best of luck on your venture!
P.S. If you'd like my personal recommendations for sellers. Mats_alice/songsong0104, gojade/antijade, Watercrystal Jade, Ultimate_Jadeite, Yokdee Jewellery, 3Jade, Allan Spehar of Jade Diver, ChatoyantGem2626, gegegems, MayanMountain, jal_9021 are all sellers I recommend and have bought from once or many times with very favorable experience. Some of them will have premium prices though but if you can stomach it, then please do go for it, you won't be disappointed at all.

Too helpful I tell you :)

I’m going to save these shops until my birthday next year. I ordered a custom pendant from Yokdee set to arrive in about 3 weeks. She’s getting a bail put on the pendant for me. After I’ll be happy with these 2 pendants for now when I get them and sometime next year I’ll buy a ring from one of the sellers you recommended.

The customer service and relationship from Yokdee is outstanding. There definitely a premium but Irene really makes you feel at ease. That’s the only jade piece I’ll have certificates for. As you told me the lead pendant looks authentic I’ll rest easy for now. I think 2 pendants in rotation isn’t too bad.

I really hope you enjoy your purchases!

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I realize I’m probably one of the only guys here but I’ll stay. You ladies have been very good to me and I’m learning so much by being here.

Hello!

You may like to browse this seller as well. I know people who have bought from her, she can provide the reputable Hong Kong certificates and she's really nice to deal with. I haven't bought from her but have made enquiries and she's lovely.

On another note you make me think of my nine year old son. He loves precious/semi precious stones. He's in love with my purple bangle and I'm to donate it to his collection one day. He's fascinated by the purple smooth rock!

Thanks for this link, this thread had been extremely helpful. Your son will be thrilled when you pass on that bangle to him. You’re right I do sound like him because what make me fascinated was the smoothness of the rock and that water look.

Thank you, fingers crossed. I plan to get it certified later this year or early next year.

I have a side question. I’m a guy, but I really loved the pendant for some reason it just spoke to me. Does it look feminine? I’m considering gifting it to my mom and wearing the dragon pendant for me.

I will check out that thread later tonight when I get home. I enjoy looking at jade jewellery make and female.

Oh! I should've known that it came from that seller, they seem to sell natural pieces but I personally believe to find their prices alittle too good to be true especially with some vibrantly green pieces costing at a significantly lower price than market value. But there's also an option for them to have it certified by HKJSL which are just as reputable as GIA with stone identification.
