Second.

ROFLMAO.

So... 4 years it took me to re-set my ring. I bothered EVERY PS vendor on here. Some of the three or four times

. Finally decided to go custom. Got my new setting October 2007.

I'm flattered, extremely so. They called it "gorgeous".... and since they are selling it... they really really mean it!!!!!

The proportions are different, and some of the lines... but

Gypsy~I think your ring looks like a much finer piece of jewelry. I like everything about it more than replica. What are your feelings about the "other" ring?

I'm tickled pink. I agree with you that mine has finer details. The halo is handmade by someone who is an expert at pave and it shows, and the shank was designed by Ocean and me ... and she's a master goldsmith. My wires again, are handmade and shaped. And my halo is thinner, the single cuts rock, and the shank of mine looks more delicate.

I think that my ring is the one I designed with Ocean. It's mine, and nothing changes that or takes away from it.

But I think it's FABULOUS that someone liked mine enough to want to offer something similar!!!!!!! Especially as I COULD NOT FIND a setting like mine on the market anywhere. Literally tickled pink. I've been giggling since I found it, and I'm STILL giggling.

I think it's cool!

LOL Gypsy...what can I say? Should we call it a Marcy ring now? Hehe, j/k...it''s a testament to your excellent taste!!

*off to go copy Gypsy''s ring pics to hard drive*

OMG!!!!!! It's meant to be.... must be time for my upgrade!

Remember at the meetup when I was adoring your setting? You kept telling me I'd never find anything like it an I'd have to custom if I wanted something similar... guess not!

Seriously though how do you feel? Does it bother you that yours won't be one of a kind?

eta- just saw your response above!

OMFG! I totally missed that!!!

" Marci, was inspired by a custom made diamond ring she had seen on a popular diamond discussion forum. She contacted us to inquire whether we would be able to duplicate this ring design in platinum. Thus began a series of correspondences between us with detailed drawings and diagrams sent by the customer."

Mia honey, if you go to excel... give them the side views of mine (I'll even take more pics of the side view for you) so that they can get the connection of the shank to the halo right... it's bumpy on the excel ring, and that would bug me (I know, my original setting had an ITTY BITTY ripple in the basket that drove me nutty for 4 years. Fixate much?).

Honestly? I can say with 100% truth that the only thing I feel is a desire to FIX IT so that it looks MORE like mine. I want the connection to the halo fixed and to narrow the halo. I'm crazy. Ignore me.

And CLEARLY I was wrong... I've started a trend
yetanotherdancyguy.gif
. Seriously though, I'm just flat out touched. It's like... it's really good. It's like something that was in my brain, that I designed (with Ocean) was liked enough that someone else wanted one for their ENGAGEMENT RING. That's just so special.

LOL, you MISSED that? Woman, that was the best part!!!!!

T-Gal... there are 13 freaking pics of that ring on their site... you could have knocked me over with a feather when I saw those side wires. I wasn''t reading anything. Just... staring. And thinking... "The Irony of this is KILLING ME. And I need to share."...

But you are right, that IS the best part.

Gypsy, that is so cool! Your ring is truly lovely. How exciting that someone wants your special design for their own engagement ring!

Ha ha! I can''t COPY your ring. But man do I want to!
27.gif

You are so funny! You want them to at least get it right, huh?

Honestly, I think I would be flattered to. It''s like your famous! I''d be proud. And it is an awesome design. I knew moment I saw that setting that it was quite possibley the perfect setting for a ring. It''s my favorite halo ever!

You should be proud Gypsy. This was YOUR vision. I remember the entire journey, including your sketchings.

My only headshake with this particular situation is I feel that you and ocean should be profiting off this, but then again, I don''t believe your ring is copyrighted. It''s only because I know how hard you worked on every last detail of your ring that I feel this way about your situation.

They should have at least given you the honor and called it "The ring of a gypsy." Sheesh.

Ha ha, yep pretty funny
5.gif

I can definately see the differences though, and agree with the others that your ring seems more elegant Gypsy.
Just shows that any copy can never really duplicate the "original".

Thank you Kitty!! I like it. LOL.

Mia, you can and with your princess it would ROCK, the prongs would have to be adjusted, but otherwise... if you want it, get it. In fact, I love your solitare (your princess is one of the loveliest I''ve ever seen) and your princess cut band so much... we can trade at the GTG for a little while and be the mutual admiration twosome.

Nah... I have the ring I wanted. I know it's mine. That's enough. More than enough. As for Ocean... I DID email Wink with an FYI, since I KNOW I don't own the copyright (I didn't want it), but Ocean might.

As for profitting? I am. Everyday I look at my ring. And now, on top of all my own memories I have the lovely thought that someone else loved it enough to want it for their own. As for "the ring of gypsy"... they didn't call it the 'marci' either... just 'gorgeous'... so what more can I ask for.

It's very sweet that you feel that way though. You are a good egg T-gal.

arjunajane-- every ring is unique. Particularly any custom ring.

I love your ring Gypsy but the copy I''m sorry to say is downright fugly.
It doesn''t have the graceful refined look that makes yours rock and looks thrown together.

Gypsy, I just want to say this-- you rock. Seriously. Not only because you have an amazing, gorgeous, stunning ring [
30.gif
] but because you''re one of the classiest people I''ve ever "known." For so many reasons!

Storm, I love how refined mine is and I'm so happy that the HOURS of discussions about shank width (1.8 or 2.1), pave styles, tapering start points, degree of tilt on the halo, whether I meant 'claw prong' or 'talon prong' show in my ring's design and execution. But, it's someone's engagement's ring... someone who is probably a lurker, named Marci. Who I hope loves her ring as much as I love mine. I don't think it's fugly, it's just a little different than mine.
2.gif

Wishful honey... ((HUGS)) and thank you. Likewise. You inspire me and amaze me. Next time you are in CA (hopefully maybe to celebrate a supreme court ruling???), we have to have a GTG just to meet you and your beautiful wife!

Sinker. Freaking Family. That''s okay though... I think someone mentioned "quarterly" GTG''s scheduled in advance and I think that''s an idea I''m gonna get behind. So, either next time. Or we''ll set up some shopping time soon for another ''ladies lunch.''

Gypsy, I am sooooo jealous of the CA GTGs because so many awesome posters are in CA! I would be honored to meet you, and perhaps your dear John as well. And boy... I could only hope.

Teensy tinsy mini threadjack [only if you feel like answering because it is SO not the point of this thread, sorry] but you're a lawyer... do you happen to have any thoughts? I think my opinion, as legally informed as it tries to be, is just hopelessly biased. *hugs* ETA: it just occurred to me [um, duh] that you may know nothing about it and specialize in something completely different, in which case I've just made a fool of myself!

Dude, that is so wrong. That''s Marci''s ring you know.

Gypsy, I''m more like a bad seed...but once in awhile I sprout something other than a weed.

And yes, your ring is gorgeous!

LOL I am just gonna giggle, ironic much yes :), you have an amazing e-ring gypsy

I was just thinking how beautiful a style of ring like your would look with a red centered asscher, it looks amazing with a diamond I wonder if that would work as well *ponders*.....I love plain shanks they are so versatile and practical.

btw, gypsy, did you see the specs? I noticed they even specify the pave type - Craponia!!!

Never a fool and there are no stupid questions. I do contracts (negotiate, draft, re-draft... interpret) and one of my poorest grades (despite my high degree of interest in the subject) in law school was Consitutional Law. Of course my POOREST grade (hands down) was in contracts (hehehe) ... but I digress. The point is, I''m trained to see shades of grey in everything and to talk out of both sides of my mouth when it suits me. And this is a really emotional issue for me (though not nearly as it is for you of course) that I have a strong bias about... so I just don''t think I can answer the question, though I am honored you felt you could, and would want to ask me. I''m sorry I can''t offer you more, and please know that with all my heart, I wish I could.

T-gal... bad seed, or good egg. You have a darned cut sprout (or chick???). Love the T-tot.

Thanks, Gyps. Wishful thinking on my part to think anyone could guess to begin with. My poorest law grade so far was in Civil Liberties [hah-undergrad] so I'm pretty much useless and anyways it was US Con Law we were working with anyways and in that course we weren't yet a protected class, and now only in CA. Funny how so much can change so quickly and feel like nothing at all at the end of the day. Thanks so, so, so much anyways. That you even care about it is more than any of us could really even ask for at this point. Sending so much love and gratefulness from MA [where we've managed to still keep our wits about us for the time being

You KNOW I missed that... hilarious. Flat out hilarious. God, do you remember the sheer amount of hilarity the term "Craponia" caused???? Unless my memory is faulty (and it is), you were rather amused by that for a while. And Deco. And me. And most of PS.

More ctw than my halo. Mine is .20 single cut. That one is .35... BUT THEY ARE SINGLE CUTS!!!

My shank is 2.1 from the TOP (taper is from the side view only), and the excel ring is 2.5. Overall, fascinating. Nice asscher. Looks more octagonal than mine, and very lovely.

Here's Marci's Excel Diamonds Ring and Asscher:

Of course I remember the hilarity of of Craponia. What makes me laugh even more is that some unsuspecting non-PS person checking out the excel ring will be reading the specs thinking, "Pave...craponia. Hm, it must not be very good!"

Thanks for the shout out to T-Tot. Boy, I''m glad they are not cloning kids yet because all the cute PS babies would be copied/imitated/inspired from for sure! Hee!

It really is a lovely ring! With a lovely inspiration as well. Win-win all around and a cause for celebration and many giggles!

My thoughts exactly!!! Trust me I don''t want to go either! It''s freakin 10 degrees there and um have you seen the weather here lately? I am dreading it like you wouldn''t believe! Oh well, it will be the first time home since the elopement, so I guess we are due. We are having a little party and I ordered wedding albums to present to the parents, so it should be fun. I also get to see my niece!!!!!

I''m super close to my 8 year old neice (actually she''s Aaron''s) and she''s the one I miss the most. We have a special bond. She actually asked for me for christmas- no joke! Oh my god am I rambling on your thread.... Yes I am! I''ll shut up now.
