This is my Labradorite/Andesine (12X10, 3.89ct) & diamond (.83ct.) ring I had set last week. Hope to have it appraised sometime soon.

What a gorgeous frame for a gorgeous stone! I love the design of that setting!

Widget, I am also in love with that deco ring you''ve got the alex in. YUM.

Thank you FireGoddess!

I have got to learn to stop falling for those "mixed faceted parcels" from JTV!!!! After ignoring that pitch for more than 6 months, I bit the other day, telling myself that the other stuff in the "kit" made it almost worth the price of admission, so it didn't matter what was in the parcel.

Which was true enough, except that it's the stones I really look forward to.

SO it was a 60 ct parcel, and it consisted mostly of:

3 large smoky quartz. Nicely cut, but who cares?
a bunch of med to small size amethyst. the nicest a 5x7 EC.
med size prasiolite, citrine, and yellow quartz.
two nice red but heavily zoned red labradorite
some >1 ct blue zircon, white topaz and/or aqua, and throwaway emerald and peridot. there is also a fucshia 3x5 pear shape that might be a tourmaline, or more likely a grapey garnet, but it's poorly cut...

*sigh*

The nicest stones seem to be the EC amethyst, and what looks to be a 5x7PS chrysoberyl.

Where are the alexandrites, rubies, tanzies, and diamonds that they talk about throwing into the barrel?

All in all a huge disappointment that I will be sending back in spite of the shipping costs... or should I say shopping costs?

One of these days I will learn, I will, I will...

Minims,

Sorry you had such a bad experience. I think Connie said she had a good one. I haven''t bought a parcel for the reasons you stated. I think they give you all of the hype then you get a bunch of junk.

I think the first thing I ordered from JTV was a parcel of champagne diamonds. They were a little more than powder (LOL), of course it went back. The parcels have never been something I was interested in and I figured they put all the garbage into them.A friend of mine has ordered one and it was included stones...bad. Maybe if you bought the $$$ parcels they would have better stones.Don''t know.Just not something that blows my skirt up! OOPS!

For the most part, the word "Parcel" means... "getting rid of my junk"

I come across the same then when buying parcels of rough. One good stone, and 20 pieces of junk. There is a difference in a parcel and buying in quantity.

I believe that. When they show them you can see how bad they are on JTV.When they have parcels of diamonds or gems that are all the same kind they are different sizes and none match...so what the heck do you do with them? But people buy them and some must love them. They seem to be a big ting. Not here! LOL!

That is what I thought too. I saw some of their emeralds and they were so cloudy, they were down right ugly. I thought you had one good parcel Connie, maybe it was someone else that did that I was thinking of.

Linda

Must have been someone else, Linda. I haven''t seen anything in a parcel I want.Where are those pics of you Pad????

You would be much further ahead to take the money for one of these mixed parcels, and buy just one halfway decent stone.

You''re all right, of course, and I knew that when I ordered, but still.... I love the hunt, and hope springs eternal! One of my first gemstone purchases was a mixed parcel, and it sparked a new hobby even though there wasn''t anything too terribly valuable in there.

It looks like JTV is no longer broadcasting in my area.

OMG! You poor thing. There is always the live viewer

. They are having Jewelry Fest this week! ! !I don''t need to be watching. As for the hunt, you never know & if you do not find anything ....ship it back....Have fun!

I have noticed lately that GSN has been selling alot of gemstones and jewelery with big fat windows in them. They didn''t used too. I can see the windows when they show the close up.

The other day they showed a yellow sapphire ring, with a huge price tag. All I saw was a big window and hardly any yellow. My Pad doesn''t have a window, that is why I kept it. Otherwise, it would have gone right back.

Now the 2 tanzanites I bought from JTV a few years back, the deep dark ones are beautiful no windows.

Linda

Linda....Glad you brought that up because I was just thinking that the other night. I just thought maybe it was me. Guess the Tsavorite will be here tomorrow. If it has one it will go back or if it is too dark. I do not like dark stones. It is supposed to be WORLD CLASS>>>we will see.It will probably go back right along with the Tanzie!

I have seen JTV selling Tanzanites with an awful cut. Plum lopsided! In fact I ordered a Tanzanite from the website and when it arrived the color was great but the cut was terriable.I sent it back with a note for what good it did! Just have to watch out. Jtv''s return policy is great and they are fast to refund your payment method.GSN takes for ever...most of the time it is like months. Can you believe that.

Connie

I''ve noticed the same thing, but wonder if it''s always been thus, and I''m just better educated now and can spot the bad ones.

I''ve also noticed some multi-color sapphire jewelry that I suspect contain Be treated stones, mainly because the colors seem too bright and well matched and the prices too "good".

hmmm...

widget

GSN says they do not have treated gems like that or synthetic and lab created gems. They might be heated sapphires but not Be treated. Natural sapphires are pale and the heated are more yellow and then you have the Be treated...right?????Least that is the way I understand....May not be right and if it isn''t I am sure someone or someONES will correct me...LOL ! !
26.gif
They have been in business for a number of years and if it was not as they discribed it would be bad for business....

BTW...Have any of you ever heard of Yellow Kunzite? I was watching DSN (some of you here have said you liked that channel & I was kinda checking it out) and the had a 6 or 7 ct Yellow Kunzite and diamond ring.It was a bigun at $1500.00. I have never heard of Yellow but not saying it is no such thing.Checked hurriedly in one of my books and it was the pink, lavener & lilic shades mentioned.Just kinda lerry about something I have not heard of and wnat to find out about it like the red sapphires.

Connie

Connie,

I saw that show too, on DSN. They showed alot of yellow Kunzite and I never heard of them before. Maybe Gene can help us out here.

Speaking of windows on stones. Two weeks ago, I went on GSN''s website and saw a Padparadscha and diamond ring. I ordered it, sight unseen. I received it and it went right back. The whole ring, was one big window. When I called for a return number, I asked them how could they sell that ring the way it was. The guy was kind of snotty to me, but I didn''t care, HA!!!!! Some of their stones are nice, but alot of their rings, have big windows .

Linda

The guy was kind of snotty to me, but I didn''t care, HA!!!!!

Hey Linda...I find that they are snotty also. They will probably really be snotty to me when I call them to return the Tanzie and the Tsavorite. The ones they have shown since I ordered mine have been dark & I do not like dark stones. Don''t they take a long time to let go of your money when you return something.I mean it can be 2 months! That is outrageous!

So you saw the yellow Kunzite.I only saw the one ring. It comes on here at 9 PM. Have you ordered from them? I can''t remember.I don''t like the setting or the host that I have seen.Isn''t that bad of me.I have them on now.

Connie

It sure does take along time for GSN to refund our money. Last time it took 3 months. Maybe they do it on purpose, who knows.

I haven''t returned anything to DSN. I have only purchased a few things though, mainly Andesine. I am still waiting for the double Pad ring I ordered. I am still waiting for my daughter to get over here to take pictures too.

The Hosts on DSN talk too much, before they show something. Yak yak yak, geez. The one I like is Art, but he isn''t on that much anymore, although he was on last night. He got a promotion, so maybe he is on once a week if that. He is has a good personality.

Now they are talking about a new find of Tourmaline. There is not any places here where I live to buy jewelry. There is one mom & pop store and a natioal chain. That s it so these shopping networks are it.Besides you can not find a variety of gems in the retail world. I love to into a jewelry store and them not know what my Mandarin Garnets are. I can''t tell you how many times people have thought my ring was a Pad...Yea right a 4ct + pad!!!! I wish ....lol!

Oh that reminds me, I did buy a Mandarin Garnet ring from DSN it is really pretty, it has .50 diamonds around it too. Most people don''t know what it is you are right.

Linda

Linda, have been following this thread and would love to see a pic of your pad. It is my dream stone, but I really can''t afford one . . . also am very leery of buying from these gem shopping tv shows . . . can you really get decent stuff from them? It seems everyone sends back a lot of what they buy.

Hi Potoar,

My first Pad ring I bought from The natural sapphire company. The stone I bought from GSN and another ring is coming from DSN.

I am waiting for my daughter to come over to take a picture for me, if she ever gets around to it. I will ask her again tomorrow. Did you check the natural sapphire company? I LOVE PADS

portoar

Of course you are leery of buying for the first time. I would think everyone is, I know I was. I have been ordering from JTV for years and they have NEVER had a problem with a return and that makes you feel better. They understand something on the screen will look different at home or a ring you see may not look right on your finger. One of the CEOs said that. That all makes you feel better. Now there is a lot of junk as there is all price levels. I myself like the RED CARPET line or the memo pieces they have. I believe they are of better quality. As a said in another thread I had some pieces appraised and I did really well. My 12.53 Tanzanite stone was appraised...Retail $28,000.00 +.So YES you can, just make sure of the return policy. It is scarey at first.....Try it you''ll like it.

Connie

Oh I forgot to say that also I have a piece or two that I have bought from a National Chain jewelry store ( everyone would know) and have seen them on JTV and for 1/3 of the price I paid for them. I have also seen pieces on JTV that I have seen in retail and they were 1/3 the price. NOW! They buy close outs also...

GSN says they will redflag you if you send everything back...Well I have snt lots back but I do keep some.Have not been redflagged yet.

I live in MS and I have to travel 2 hrs one way to see anykind of jewelry and let me tell you when we go shopping that is where I head off to...jewelry stores. But they do not have the more exotic stones the shopping channels have.So now.....

Connie

Connie,

Have you bought any gems from the JTV special? I haven''t, but they are showing some nice stones.

Linda

No Linda I have not. They have had some nice finished pieces.I watched more yesterday.Have you? I did order a ring for my right hand forfinger. I like to have a ring on that finger and the ring finger, if they go together. This may not go with other rings. It was not expensive, but I like it. It is 18K and .38 diamonds. We''ll see
36.gif

Still have not gotten the Tsavorite. I felt for sure it would be here this morning.I tried calling GSN for a RMA# and got a recording. They gave the time they were open and it is between those hours....

Hi Connie,

The ring is really pretty.

GSN is hard to get a hold of at times. Last night they showed a PAD at some outrageous price, with a big fat window in it. They showed some other stones, with no windows though.

The other day, Rebecca sold an orange/red sapphire ring. I thought of you. I bet it was heat treated. She didn''t say though. Someone bought it right away.

Linda

Thanks...

GSN just called, they are having trouble with the phones. The Tsavorite has not shipped out yet
29.gif

I sure wished I had seen that one.How much was it and what did it look like. Heated does not bother me but the Be heat would. But anyway it is a pretty color.
