"Just Barely" Pregnant PS''ers

Re:

Hi ladies!

PPM, Peanut butter and pickles? Not sure I have ever tried that together. But now I want a pickle...mmmmm. I would have been livid at my DH too if he left the door open! Hopefully he'll never do that again!

PetitePoire - your appointment is right around the corner! Hope these last few days pass quickly.

Meg, congrats again on your great numbers. Hope things continue smoothly!

Missy, I did hear about Flacco's wife! I was just telling my mom we are due the same week...good timing by them to have the baby far away from football season! Hope you are feeling well, your little bump is so cute! I might have to check out some of those maternity sales, I've had to retire two pairs of work pants this week.

Mayerling hope your travels are still going well, glad telling the parents went well.

Lizzy hope you are enjoying having your DH back! Good luck at your US tomorrow!

sugarpie glad things are getting slightly better for you. How did your NT scan go?

amc, sorry you are feeling a little sick. Hope it doesn't get too bad!

Muffdog, sorry about that rotton headache, I think it is very common to get them at the end of the first/beginning of the second tri. Hope it doesn't happen too much to you! The tech did not guess gender for us and was pretty unfriendly so I didn't ask, but we scheduled the scan for Feb 1 so only six weeks to go!

AFM, thanks for all the kind words on our little bean's first photos. We got back our numbers from the first round of bloodwork and they were 1/4100 for DS and 1/10000 for Trisomy 18 so excellent all around. I told my team at work on Friday and they were very nice and happy for me. We let our family know they could spread the word as well so my mom is loving being able to tell every person she's ever known that she is going to be a grandma. Still dealing with a little bit of MS when I skip a dose of unisom but I'm hopeful it will ease up soon. My belly is starting to pooch out a little too and certain pairs of pants are being retired but oh well. I guess I'll escort myself over to the big girl thread now that I'm almost 14 weeks, but I'll be checking in on all you lovely ladies and hope to see you over there when your time comes! Thanks for all the support you've provided over the last ten weeks!

Re:

Meg: Those numbers are fantastic! Interesting about the doubling rate... I cannot wait to hear if there's more than one little bean in there! How awesome would that be?! (And terrifying, and terrific, all at the same time!)

Muff: Phew. Glad you're feeling better. Sorry yesterday was so rough  I hope you're able to look into that Rx and that it (or some other method) will provide some relief. Better yet, I hope the migraines don't come back AT ALL!

AMC: M/S is truly an awful thing, even if it IS a signal that things are progressing as they should. If it gets really, truly bad I highly recommend taking a combo of B6 (25-50mg) and half of a Unisom Sleep Tab (NOT the gels and NOT Benadryl!) a short while before bed. If you don't feel comfortable taking anything I totally understand, or if it's just nausea you're experiencing, but if you find yourself throwing up consistently, this may work. I was throwing up about 1-2 times per day, dry heaving a LOT and always felt crappy. This combo allowed me to eat and function normally at work.

Hello, everyone else! Hope you're all well and wonderful!

AFM: I am on winter break (insert dancing emoticon!) So far it is GLORIOUS. Yesterday was our two year anniversary, and we had a terrific day together. Highlight? 9w4d ultrasound. We saw our babe squirming around- my heart just about melted! Right now the head is substantially larger than the rest of the body, and little arm and leg nubs are visible. It's 100% the gummy bear stage. Heartbeat was 167.

M/S is easing up, thank goodness. Right now my most annoying symptom is waking up at least twice each night to pee :angryfire: I just want to sleep the night through!! We're going to tell our parents when they're visiting over the holidays. Our plan is to put the ultrasound photos inside of a book- "Spot Visits his Grandparents." We're a little worried they're going to think it's a joke about our dog...She has traveled to their home a number of times and they love keeping her for short stays. I'm not sure what I'll do if they read the book title and blurt out, "Oh! Great! When is Zoey coming for a visit?!"

Oh my - is it that time? Time to move to the big girl thread? I'm 14 weeks too...guess I'm moving with ya! Anyways Steph - I've got a guess based on your pictures :-)

Okay well - I'm no scientist (nor am I a ultrasound technician) but according to this theory http://www.baby2see.com/gender/external_genitals.html

I'm going to guess GIRL!

(of course, what do I know, but some people swear by the 'angle of the dangle' theory!)

Re:

Muff and Steph, congrats on moving to the big girl thread!

Muff, I'm curious as to your gender guess for Steph. Do tell! Glad you are feeling better. Hope the headaches stay away!!!

Steph, congrats on a clear screening! Breathe easy!

PPM, glad the morning sickness has eased up and you can function a little more normally! Yay for seeing your little one on your anniversary. How special! Post a pic of your u/s! I'd love to see it!!!

AMC, I totally agree with Muff. Try to eat small snacks though out the day. It really helps. I find I have more control of the m/s now due to this. When I don't eat for awhile, the nausea comes on me quick, so it is worth it to have some cheese and crackers or something near by.

Missy, thanks for the heads up on Motherhood Maternity. I really need to go through my clothes from my pregnancy with my son and see what I need.

Meg, try not to worry about the symptoms. Every day is different you know? Good thing is that your betas are moving up nicely so try to relax and enjoy it! Can't wait to hear on 12/28 whether there are one or two sacs!!!

Kunzite, how are you feeling?

AFM, Today I ran out to do some Christmas shopping with my DS and pushed myself too long without a snack or lunch and I started heaving in the car on the way home. Luckily I called my DH to have lunch waiting for me for when I got home. My DH works from home! It really is nice! Ultrasound tomorrow morning! Nervous and anxious! Hoping for continued good news!

I've never heard of this before... but based on Steph's US photos & the theory, GIRL seems to be right!!

Now I'm super, super curious to find out what you're actually having! :appl: We can have our own 'Angle of the Dangle' non-scientific PS study!

Re:

I just ate a WHOLE box of cheese crisps and I'm not exaggerating. LOL. With this appetite there had BETTER be two in there!

Re:

Steph and Muff – see you over in the big girl thread very soon! I want to spend some time looking at that gender website Muff. Would love to see if I can figure out my bugger’s gender!

AMC- so sorry to hear about your morning sickness. :nono: It really is the pits. Pure misery. I had it really bad weeks 6-11.5. My symptoms are now starting to ease at 12 weeks, but man, this first trimester was a killer. My advice – small snacks throughout the day, ginger ale, warm water with a slice of lemon, crackers, and jelly beans. I also took Zofran since it was so bad, but I know there are also non-prescription methods that are supposed to work just as well.

Lizzy- good luck with your ultrasound tomorrow. Keep us posted! And thanks for asking about DS. He ended up getting croup and was sick for a few days. We had to give him a steroid med to help open his airways. Scary stuff, but luckily he’s doing much better. Glad to hear Evan is feeling better, too.

PPM – enjoy your vacation!! And that’s great your m/s is easing up! There is light at the end of the tunnel! :appl:

Meg- that would be something if you were having twins! You are lucky that you have a hearty appetite, especially during this first trimester!

AFM – we had the NT scan on Monday. The tech didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary, but we are still waiting on our final lab results which take a week, so hopefully by the end of this week. We really want to be able to enjoy Christmas weekend and not worry. We saw the baby sucking on its hands and sitting with its legs crossed, just hanging out in there. An amazing little sight  .

My symptoms are easing a lot. Nausea is almost completely gone and the exhaustion is easing up. I’m starting to feel somewhat normal again after the longest, most miserable 6 weeks of my life!!

12w4d (according to last ultrasound)

Re:

Muffdog, yay, I'm glad your headache is better! That must have been so annoying. And I feel you on the belly sentiment. I can't wait until my belly looks obviously pregnant.

Steph, weee, Frankie is such a cutie!! Is it time for us to move to the other thread already!? I don't feel safe yet!

AMC, Sorry, but I highly doubt that what you're feeling in the belly is the expanding uterus. :) It's nice to think that it is though! Good luck with your nausea. I hope it's not too bad!

PPM, I'll join you for the "hooray, winter break is here!!!" And is there a serious possibility that your parents are going to confuse your announcement for your dog??? That's just too funny and mortifying to imagine!

Lizzy, I'll be watching out for your ultrasound tomorrow!!! And how on earth did you survive the day without eating?

Everyone else, hi!!!!! :wavey:

AFM, after last week's scare of stupidly trying to catch the train, NT scan showed a very much alive baby! Whew, I'm so relieved. Preliminary numbers look good, and growth is right on track. DH got to see it doing fist punches, and it has a huge fat belly already.
I also feel like a giant fat slob. I'm only 13.5 weeks, and I can't button my trousers anymore! My weak body image wants to go on a diet every time I feel my non-existent waist.

I guess 1st trimester is almost over. I have been really, really lucky that I had no serious nausea or symptoms that kept me from doing my daily routine. The support here has been wonderful, and I'm very grateful to have had a place to vent and freak out. Before I leave this thread, I want to leave some notes for new mommies. At least for me, these are things that nobody told me about. TMI warning!

1. You are going to leak pee. Constantly. Every time I feel a gush of warm fluid I freaked out thinking that it was blood. I hear kegal exercise helps, but so far not for me. Now that I know about it, it's actually really gross when I feel the leakage.
2. It's going to suck if you have cervical polyps. You are going to spot/bleed every single darn day, especially if you are an active person to begin with. It wrecks your fragile mind. I had to chant to myself "If the worst case come true, there is nothing you or the doctor could have done about it.". The spotting is so bad that I actually understand the girls you hear about who didn't realize they were missing their periods.
3. If you freak out and get yourself checked, cervical polyp is going to make you even prone to bleeding after an internal exam. It took all my will power not to go back to the hospital after they checked me internally. If you do, you are going get checked again, bleed again, then freak out again...
4. You may have heard about the cramping part, but you just can't help thinking about the worst case scenario every time it happens. And it happens a lot. You sit for too long, your lower back hurts. You reach for something, it hurts. You climb the stairs, it hurts. It's going to feel like stitches when you run long distance, except it's in your lower belly. This is just your uterus's ligaments stretching, and it's okay.

I'm just a newbie mommy, and far from an expert. I think many of you know this already, and I hope I don't sound like a snobbish know-it-all. I hope it helps those who join the preggo life clueless like I did :wavey: I hope you don't mind me lurking here from now on!

Re:

One more TMI I forgot to add.

5. Constipation is going to suck big time. Especially if you are prone to constipation to begin with. So far, I see no end to this problem. I try to think of it as practice labors when the kid is stuck...

Re:

Choro - I second the constipation part. I had a few times I was seriously scared to even try to "go" Ahhh! But yes, I should have mastered how to push by now haha. And I second the cramping, but mine was worse at the beginning, not too bad now. But my back does hurt! And what feels like my tailbone, I read online that there's a muscle/ligament back there that stretches through pregnancy which makes it hurt. Oh and another TMI I didn't believe happens...Sneezing and peeing and you're like "What the heck just happened?!?!?" Peeing, even when I don't feel like I need to go! That is just wrong!! This just happened to me for the first time last night, twice in fact. The second time I was headed TO the bathroom after sneezing and sneezed again and I was like "Come on I was almost there!!!" haha.

Re:

All, if it helps I had constipation during my first tri. It got better in the second tri. Finally in the 3rd tri, I'm pretty much back to normal. So hopefully the constipation will get better as you ladies move into the later tris.

~LC

I'm so glad you wrote this. When I had my migraine and threw up, I peed myself. I was mortified. Glad I'm not alone. :-)

Re:

LC and Missy, thanks for commenting on the constipation issue. I asked my RE today if it is safe to take a daily stool softener because my constipation issue has gotten real bad and I have not pooped for like 3 days at this point. Sorry TMI. I've been drinking as much water as I can but honestly when I drink too much fluid it makes me a bit nauseous so it becomes another issue.

Choro, glad your NT went well and you got to see your little one again! Congrats on moving onto the big girl thread!

Sugarpie, so interesting about the Croup. A friend of mines son just went through it as well. Is it contagious or is it self contained? Glad to hear your son is doing much better though. It is terrible when they are sick. Glad your NT scan went well. So you were just over 12 weeks when you had the scan right? I just want to be sure I don't miss my window.

Meg, the way I see it is if your hungry....eat!!!! Can't wait till your first u/s!

PPM, I think this angle of the dangle thing could be interesting!

AFM, I am 8w5d today and I measured exactly 8w5d today on my ultrasound! Things look great! Heart beat was 164bpm...nice and strong! I cried a little at the end but I wasn't as emotional as the first u/s. It was weird to be signed out of my RE and released back to my OB. I have an appt in a couple of weeks with my OB. I will be close to 11 weeks at that point. The receptionist said that they would schedule my NT scan for the following week at that first appt. So I would be close to 12 weeks for the NT scan. When has everyone gotten there NT scans done? I read between 11 and 14 weeks so I should be ok, but I was worried that it would be cutting it close. I am so excited to tell our close family at Christmas! What a blessing!

Re:

Oh Lizzy, that is a blessing indeed! So happy for you! What a great Christmas present for your whole family!

Re:

I am officially jealous of all of those people who crave healthy stuff. Maybe it's because I had a pretty healthy diet before getting pregnant (lots of fruit, veggies, salads, etc.), but now all I want is crap. I just had McDonald's for lunch and it was amazing. Did I mention I had it for breakfast, too? Yeah. Definitely going to the gym today. I think part of it is my iron is low so I'm craving meat. Oh, and it tastes so damn good. Could be that as well. But the thought of an apple or salad? Ick.

Re:

Thanks MP, still rooting for you! Keep us posted Friday!

AMC, trust me I am also craving burgers and fries. If I eat that for dinner, I try to balance out by having a healthier meal at lunch and better snack choices. But for some reason, burgers and fries really make me feel less nauseous. Weird how that works.

Re:

I forgot to tell you guys this little story- My boss knows I'm a healthy eater. Whenever we all go out for lunch I get a salad. And I stay away from the donuts and stuff people bring in. Well, he came over after lunch and saw the burger and fries on my desk. He said "McDonald's? Really? You don't eat this type of stuff!" I quickly came back with "well, now I don't have to worry about fitting into a wedding dress." Ha!

Re:

Lots to catch up on. Here goes:

Muff- I have been getting more headaches recently. Migraine type. Ouch. After Tylenol didn't work I caved and had a 1/4-1/3 glass of coke. I know caffeine isn't recommended but I knew it would help me and it did. Before I had my hand on my head and was doubled over because it hurt so bad. I should not that I normally rarely drink coke though.

AMC- sorry to hear MS is kicking in. I hope it doesn't get too bad. Mine was in waves so be don't worry if you find yourself not sick every few days. I was constantly worried when I didn't feel sick.

Steph- I was thinking girl too! I can't wait to find out what it really is. I hope to join you in the big girl thread soon! I'll find out tomorrow.

PPM- cute way to tell your parents. Hopefully it just clicks. Either way I'm sure they will be so happy! I'm glad the ms has subsided! That's great news because I know you had it bad.

Lizzy- how sweet of your DH to have lunch waiting. I can understand the urgency when you wait to long. It definitely isn't fun. Post your u/s pic! I'm glad everything looked great.

Meg- yay for strong numbers! Eat as much as you can just in case ms decides to visit.

Sugar pie- glad they didn't motive anything abnormal with the NT. I'll be keeping my eyes out for when you get the lab work back. Yay for symptoms easing!

Choro- I like your list. I'll have to consider making my own at the end of the first tri! So many different bodily changes.

AFM- I am finally home with DH. So nice to be back although it feels a bit surreal. Sleeping seems like it's going to be an issue. Not good. With the extra preggo fatigue I just can't fight it when I feel the need to sleep. Tomorrow is our appointment! We are so excited! I just pray everything is alright in there and baby is healthy. DH says he sees my stomach is bigger. I see it daily so I just feel bloated. It makes him really excited to actually see the pregnancy now vs a test, which makes me even happier. Cravings have been fruit, bacon and eggs, biscuits with gravy, and lemonade. Yum. Meat is nearly off my menu. McDonald's hamburgers don't count as meat though, right? Ha I can definitely handle those and fries. Wish me luck for tomorrow ladies. I have this odd fear in my head that I will get there and they will say I'm not pregnant and the tests were wrong. Not a good feeling to have.

Re:

Lizzy - That is great news!!! So happy for you!!

Amc - Um...all I've been eating is unhealthy food. It is so bad. McDonalds has been my best friend and I don't know why. When it comes to meals I want SALT and snacks I want SUGAR! And it's not because it's the only thing that doesn't make me nauseous, so I really have no excuse. I'm so sorry baby, I hope you're at least enjoying it a little bit!

Petite - Good luck at your appointment. I'm sure everything will go smoothly! We're all rooting for you!

AGREED! I have been eating burgers and fries like they are going out of style. I try not to stress about it because I figure the stress is worse than the calories/fat ;-)

It is often the only types of food that makes me feel better. That and pasta. Carbs and tomato sauce. So delicious :-)

Okay well - I'm no scientist (nor am I a ultrasound technician) but according to this theory http://www.baby2see.com/gender/external_genitals.html

I'm going to guess GIRL!

(of course, what do I know, but some people swear by the 'angle of the dangle' theory!)

This is so interesting! Posted the pic on a forum where people do a lot of guessing based on angle of the dangle and everyone so far has agreed with you! My intuition has been saying girl for a few weeks now as well...guess I'll find out in six weeks! Of course, DH and I have a boy name locked down and nothing but uncertainty for girl names, so we'll have some more debating to do if it's a girl!

Lizzy, so glad everything looked great for you today!

Choro, so glad your LO looks great! We are both almost 14 weeks lady, it's time to be big girls! Your list made me laugh and nod along for a lot of it. I have been lucky in the constipation department but not as lucky in the not peeing myself department...I've had a few little leaks when heaving or coughing. Pregnancy is so glamorous.

sugarpie, so glad your scan went well too! get any good shots of your bean's dangle so we can continue the guessing game?

Re:

Whew, so I'm not the only person carving junk. That makes me feel slightly better. This morning I'm tetering on the edge of morning sickness. Which I suppose is better than full on m/s...I feel like it's going to come on at any second.

Only 5 days until my first appointment. I can't even say how excited I am, but I'm sure you guys know exactly what I'm feeling. Can't wait to see the hb and make sure everything is okay. Not so excited about the dildo cam, God, I hate that thing.

NT scan results came back normal! Yay! Now we can finally start sharing the news with the rest of our family and friends.

Thought my m/s was almost completely gone until last night... out of the blue projectile vomiting. Not a pretty sight. DS isn't even fazed anymore when he sees mommy hugging the toilet.

Going to try and post some u/s pics so we can gender predict. ;))

Re:

Sugar: Yay for a great scan, BOO for projectile vomit! Ew! How awful! Feeling better, I hope!

Lizzy: I take a picture of a picture then upload (or at least that's what I'm trying to do as we 'speak')

Re: Junk Food- I'm another one! I totally crave salt and potatoes are very palatable... That means I want french fries all the time. Two weeks ago I got a veggie burger from Burger King, and that was my last fast food foray. That's not to say I've eaten healthfully- I eat lots of pizza, pasta, and generally avoid vegetables  I hope my desire for healthy food returns in the 2nd tri.

Bloat/Showing question: How many of you ladies are experiencing this? I haven't gained any weight, but today realized my waist has grown from 27 inches to almost 30! I'm 5'3 and have a VERY short torso (about 8 inches from bra line to hip bone) so I think my expanding uterus is pushing out some of my other organs? Maybe? That's what I'm telling myself, anyway. I realize what I'm seeing is not my actual uterus, but there is no denying the growth. Downside is that maternity clothes are still too large at this point. What's the solution? Buying pants one size up? I've tried the elastic-through-the-button-hole trick, but my pants then unzip... and my work pants/trousers mostly have hooks, not buttons. I know I'm going to get MUCH bigger, but this in-between stage is driving me nutty. Even a little 'expansion' on my small-ish frame means many pants don't fit!

And an u/s photo for good measure... This was 9w4d. I'm 10 weeks today!

Get a BellaBand or the tank/cami version. I have a cami and I love it. It goes down low enough to cover your zipper. You can then unbutton your pants and the tank or band will keep your pants up.

What a cute pic PPM! I'm having the same issue with pants. My bloat is turning more round now though, so I will have to do the maternity pants soon. I do have a pair of elastic waist pants from old navy. They are normal jeans, not maternity and those have been a life saver! I usually wear a target tank under my shirts for the added length. It covers the zipper and button.

So... AFM, I had my unhelpful appointment today. All in French and no ultrasound. We have to book that tomorrow. Hopefully I can get in tomorrow as we have to turn in paper to declare my pregnancy. It's such a hassle here. I'm a bit frazzled, so I apologize for my tone. The doctor was supposed to be able to speak English. He doesn't. Which I thought was ok, until I found out after that he was telling DH my uterus was the size of a grapefruit (I thought he was telling me to eat grapefruit, which sounded odd), that I won't be getting the rhogam shot(???). Ahh I am so confused. I have an appointment next week, so I'll make a list and make sure my questions are in writing. Also, I wasn't prepared for how painful the exam was. Ouch. However, he did seem to think I was about 3 months based on the size? Anyways, I'll update tomorrow if we get in...
