Observation - people who like to remind people of their past achievements/how wonderful they are etc., don't like being told they are wrong or being challenged. :roll2:

For me personally, respect has to be earned, and past achievements mean nothing as it is not indicative of what one can do contemporaneously.

I used to be able to down a pint of beer in less than 10s when I was at college. My weight used to be ideal for my height when I was 14.

Just 2 examples of my own, however, what good are these useless facts to anyone now???

Perhaps I do not lack confidence in my own abilities - my days of having to add things to my C.V. to make me look good are long gone. :lol-2:

The jeweler I'm working with right now said the ruby we'll be setting into a ring might split in two during mounting. :eek2:

The ruby shouldn't split in two (unless smashed with a hammer or something). I has a healed fissure which, yes, is visible, but they're always visible. It's healed shut. The stone is certified, the treatment is identified, there's objectively no doubt about that.

The jeweler himself isn't familiar with treatments. Says so himself. Hadn't even heard of flux healing before. But he believes what he sees is a fracture that compromises the stone's structural integrity. Said he'd take extra care during mounting.

So now I worry. Because it doesn't matter what you know, how much you've learned, how much effort you've put into educating yourself. It all goes poof!, and your confidence is shattered simply because someone in the position of a professional challenges it, even though they openly admit they don't really possess that knowledge themselves. Will my stone shatter under the pressure of the bending prongs? Highly unlikely. Will I be a nervous wreck for the next month nonetheless? Undeniably yes. :angryfire:

agree i think that cries RESPECT ME! and often comes from a deep pit of need that can't be filled with accolades anyway...

Did I just totally screw up? My mom is.....special. So I sent her tons of gifts for her birthday which is 4/20. It has been 4/20 for as long as I have known her. Today she tells me her birthday is 4/25. I had that "bad dog" feeling when she told me this.

Revisiting to update on the lunch saga (yes, I have a new username)

Now my coworker is on some weird diet where she mixes powders that come in packets for lunch every day. This requires her to space out her meals and/or snacks to 2.5 hour intervals. So now she’s decided to take lunch at 1pm every day and I guess everyone is just supposed to be ok with it. No consulting, no asking, no consideration, nothing. Lunch at 2pm now for me. Infuriated is an understatement.

I am cold and anxious so here I am. Had some work done on an engine all the way across the country. Dropped it off 16 months ago. Should have been done in April last year. Wasn't. Took until October except he was supposed to test run. Things kept coming up. Then he quit taking my calls, texts, or emails. We finally decided we HAD to know if we could move forward on other parts of the project or not so I let him know that I would be there to pick it up on X day that was six weeks away. DH and I decided I had to go in person not just have him ship since we had to pay the other half of his fee at completion and we hadn't had so much as a photo in nearly a year. Okay, so I will drive 6,000 miles by myself in a truck to pick it up. We debated taking our truck or a rental. Settled on ours since it had made a longer drive reliably twice before (about 1000 miles each), had new tires, etc. Rentals are hit or miss quality and the last one had summer tires and windshield wiper fluid that froze.

Delayed a day due to blower motor going out. Got engine picked up successfully (and it is gorgeous). Got delayed another full day and a half due to the shocks needing replaced. (In hindsight, the "lower" truck wasn't actually supposed to be lower so needed those before but we didn't know.) Okay, great. $$$ unexpected but it drives even better than ever and is handling the trip awesome.

I should have been home today. Should have... Instead the truck started making noises in the mountains. It got worse and worse until I got to the first exit possible. No check engine light. Nothing. Just a bad noise. To make a long story at least sort of short, the engine is toast. Well and truly packed up. Fine. Not going to pay $5,000+ for a rebuilt engine to be dropped into my manure hauling truck but we could do it ourselves for around $1800. Great. I managed to get the only one way rental within HOURS of here. The awesome lady even drives me to get it picked up. Then another hour east to get to the dolly to tow our truck home. Okay. Got back and the truck loaded on and the guy who helped just before the rental place closed said to put it in neutral and good to go.

Skipping another long winded chunk, turns out that is manual transmission. Auto trans has to have the drive line disconnected. Hmmm.... As long as you sent photos, wanted to mention your drive line is seeping rust so will need, at minimum, rebuilt. Crud. Talk to DH. This is crazy. We can spend a month working on the truck and hope the transmission isn't also bad or have someone do the work. That would likely be in the ballpark of $8k-10k. Not going to happen!

It is after midnight and I am sitting in the dark cab of the rental trying to get tires enough to sleep all while being anxious that I don't know.the area and who knows what sort of people are around as I am all alone in a parking lot. Added fun in the temperature is below freezing and supposed to hit 24 overnight. This is a trip to remember and NEVER repeat! Miserable!

Oh gosh TooPatient, that makes our recent truck problems seem soooo trivial! Is there any possibility of getting to a spot that at least seems safer?

I'm not familiar with the area at all. So far, everything seems quiet. 3:40am now and dozing here and there. I'm parked in the lot of the mechanic I stopped at. Can't drive the rental until our truck is off the dolly. I need help for that. Can't leave the item in the truck unattended overnight. Hoping the mechanic will help me unhook when he gets in or the rental lady when they open at 7. Going to need a hand getting about 450-500 pounds from the one truck into the other too. Good news is we have POA set up. DH sent me a copy so I can sign for him on title paperwork.

Gah. I need to pee. Gas station is open 1/4 mile away but I hate the idea of walking alone plus it is 24° out... At least I am only cold under my extra sweaters, fleece blanket, and hat/scarf.

Finally walked to the gas station around 6:00 this morning. My egg salad sandwich sitting in the truck with me all night was still perfectly chilled so had it for breakfast. Thermal socks from the gas station made the walk back much more pleasant as I was wearing my sandals... Anyway, I got everything shifted into the rental and a salvage company took our truck. Pretty sure I got taken advantage of, but it wasn't enough to make me want to sleep in a truck another day or two to see for sure.

On my way home in a 15' box truck rental now. Probably not going to make it home tonight, but it will be close. Working hard to be aware of how I am feeling so I don't keep driving if I get tired.

Please let us know that you get home safely and please don't do a trip like this alone again. It is not safe.

Not a lot I can do about it, however, it does not look like the gemstone earring drops I commissions will reach me in time for the coronation events.

On the day they were supposed to ship out to me earlier this week, my usual contact sent me a photo for the finished drops, and my heart sank when I saw the big jump rings which were way too big for my tiny huggies.

They looked disproportional in the photo and I asked right away about their size.

They were 6mm internal diameter, whereas the ones I have in my paved diamond drops that they made for me measured to be 2.5mm internal diameter.

So I asked for them to be changed.

Here is a photo of my paved diamond drops and tiny huggies:

The pic I received of my gemstone drops showing the oversize jump rings:

This is the CAD for one of the pairs that I approved, and believe the jump rings on the finished drops are bigger than the ones in the CAD:

Apparently Monday 01 May 2023 is a public holiday in China, and there was a rush for the bench to finish the other pieces for them to be shipped out by close of business on Friday.

I have let my usual contact know my disappointment, as I placed the order and paid for them in good time.

I kicked myself for not monitoring the progress of the work more diligently. It is not often that I order something to be made with a deadline to meet.

Hey ho!

Disappointed that I shan't be able to wear them for the coronation. However, I have other earrings that I can wear, so all is not lost.

I am HOME finally. Been quite the trip. Now to check on all of the animals and get some doggie/kitty snuggles with a big glass of wine!

I stepped away from a food-related FB group to cut down on social media time when it started to get b!tchy with some posters commenting about other people's posts being too personal and should have been posted in their own FB pages instead, etc. etc...

I went back to have a look today, to find the group had been closed since late January 2023 due to too much aggro and negativity, and the admins decided enough was enough.

Good job there were sufficient breadcrumbs that pointed to a new group being started by some of the contributors of the old group.

However, some of the contributors whose posts I liked did not join the new group.

Why can't people just ignore posts they do not like and move on???!!!

OK so now (for me at least) there is something new...when one goes to see a physician for an office visit in the hospital where their office is there is now a "Hospital fee". That I had no clue to ask about (because I never experienced it before or even heard of it) so I did not know til I received a bill for 525$. That was after I paid my copay to my physician. This is a separate bill from the hospital. Ridiculous IMO

So my DH paid because he takes the easier path and while he tried disputing it he gave up and paid. I found out about it (after he paid) and we are getting the money back from the bank (he paid direct transfer). I made him call the bank (saturday) and now I am contesting the bill with the hospital.

I have no expectations I will be able to change their minds but IMO:

1. this is unethical IMO as how do we ask about something we had no clue existed? I had seen that doctor before and never had the "hospital fee" added to my bill. And

2. They deliberately hid it from us when I asked if he still accepted our insurance. I don't want to hear they are separate and different because clearly they are not. He is in the hospital and that is where we saw him and if there is a separate fee we should have been informed about it IMO.

3. Our health insurance paid 134$ towards the hospital fee. That should be sufficient. They are lucky they got that IMO.

My dh doesn't want this taken to collections and while I respect his POV I am not giving in without a fight with the hospital. You know many people will not pay this exorbitant fee and I am going to fight it.

Has anyone else experienced this and did you have any success fighting the fee?

This weekend is had the hardest craving for hot. like really hot. Like, hotter than jalepenos, which just could not scratch the itch.

Don't ever eat a cheese stuffed ghost pepper and not expect to pay for it.

Lesson learned because it was 3am and my guts was on fire... (it was good tho)

@missy, I know about this fee because the doctors I’ve been too have disclosed it on the initial paperwork. It’s crazy, I agree. I have had luck contesting a fee for a test during a doctor’s visit, I contested it because it was a 2 minute test on an iPad and the doctor never told me it was a separate fee, the insurance company refused to cover it.

In the end, I did end up paying much less, like $25 vs $265 but it took endless phone calls and e-mails to get there. IMO they should give a full print out after a visit BEFORE submitting to insurance so they you can review line by line and correct any errors or have clarification right then.

Thanks for sharing your experience Yada. I agree it’s not right to not disclose beforehand and they should also verbally tell us because many don’t read the fine print. I mean they inundate us with useless paperwork and if they squeezed in something critical like that they should make sure we know verbally too. It is definitely done like this on purpose. It’s a huge breakdown in our healthcare system imo. I mean how many can afford paying 500$ every time they see their see their dr who is supposedly in their insurance network. Unreal. Glad you got your bill successfully reduced.
