Let it all hangout -- The Grumpies, whinies, complainies Get It Off Your Chest Thread....

I found this 2019 Consumer Reports article about facility fees:

Wow, I guess we are lucky we hadn't encountered this before nor my friends but for my two friends who very recently (2023) experienced this. You can bet though from now on I will always ask from here on in and make sure either way. Outrageous they can get away with this. Interestingly enough, if one does not pay a medical charge it will likely not go on one's credit score. Not always but often medical bills do not count against the score. It is also interesting that the article stated it is hard to fight. The "surprise bill" reason might be just the ticket to use if anyone here reading encounters this type of charge. I had never heard of it before til the supervisor used the term.

Medical charges are serious bills. DH had a psychologist bill he didn't notice. Got served with paperwork that it had been filed in some court and court fees added. I guess a lot of doctors are in some legal coverage group so filing for even small charges is pretty routine. My aunt is dealing with similar issues now.

Anyway, what an outrageous fee. I thought it was bad when one of my doctors started charging an appointment charge for his nurse to send a prescription refill!

That is outrageous.

I still haven't completely figured it out! I'll get more curious if I stay with the office or my insurance changes. There has been more than one "appointment charge" on days I never even spoke with anyone in the office. Very not cool! (My insurance is amazing and since I hit my out of pocket maximum, everything is covered 100%. It still makes me angry.)

The volume button fell off of my phone yesterday. Scrolling down the page and then there is a button in my hand! The phone is just over six months old (six months plus a week) and is the top of the line phone for Google. Amazon says go through Google for manufacturer warranty. I explain several issues it has been having intermittently then the button as final straw. No problem! Take it to one of the approved shops to be evaluated and then repaired. The shop says that the volume button falling off is considered "physical damage" and NOT covered under warranty. Okay, how much could a button be? $400 :eek-2:  :eek-2: . Fine, can they fix the other stuff (going black and unresponsive even to holding buttons for forced restart, difficulty with charging, overheating, etc) and I will just figure out the button later? No! Any non-warranty repairs needed MUST be completed before any warranty repairs. $700 phone falls apart at 6 months old and they write their warranty to be like that!?!?

No, thank you! I am not spending $400 and at least another full day sitting around without my phone (closest shop is an hour round trip) just so that they can *maybe* fix the issues or may need it brought for a second day to do repairs actually on warranty.... Then, even if they fix it good as new, having a phone that may fall apart again at any time. :wall:

Or I can trade it in at my service provider for an $800 credit towards buying a BETTER phone from a different manufacturer. Hmmm..... Tough choice

Oh! I was hoping to get an unlocked version of the new phone so checked with that manufacturer. My phone is so new it isn't even accepted by this company as a trade in. It isn't just not listed, if you call customer service, they confirm that it isn't accepted as it is too new. Fine. They can make less money as I go through my phone company instead of them! Grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

I am sorry you experienced that...I don't know when that happened but supposedly there are new laws in place protecting the general public from having their credit affected by medical charges. It might depend on the total charge however (under 500$ only appears to be exempt but over that amount is not)

This was probably 10 years ago? More? Over and done with now, thankfully.

I turned on CNN tonight to watch their Coronation special. Instead what was shown was America’s latest mass shooting. I immediately felt the sadness and pit in my stomach American’s feel far to often.

Not a moan as I kind of expected this to happen, however, my brother can no longer commit to going to Cancun next year.

He said he wanted to get open/fully flexible flights, and he would pay for the extra incurred as a result.

My original flights from London > Cancun > Vancouver > London was nearly 800 GBP when I checked in mid April 2023. It has increased to nearly 900 GBP today due to his indecision. :roll2:

The fully flex Premium Economy is nearly 3k GBP!!! o_O

On top of that, I am not going to go to Cancun on my own - it is not high on my list to visit! :(2

He is dithering due to Covid uncertainties or whatever! :roll2:

So I put my foot down and said cancel Cancun. :x2

However, instead of going ballistic having wasted the time and effort in planning the trip to Cancun, as I am concerned about his mental state (he has a mental illness) and suggested we spend a few days on a road trip to the Canadian Rockies instead, either RVing or in his car staying at motels along the way.

If he ditches me again then I shall just go ahead and spend a few days RVing on my own.

I am chilled about this, honest! :lol-2:

:wall: :angryfire::nono:

It is hot here this week. Not hot for many, but 80+ (93 today) is hot for us in western WA. I have been worried about our heat pump for the last year. I was so worried, I paid several hundred dollars to have one of the most recommended companies come out and do a service plus inspection. The guy said everything was fine. All of the noise was normal (yet hadn't made it the year before?) so nothing to worry about. Skip ahead a couple of months and the house barely stayed cool today. The heat pump is dead! Hasn't cooled a single degree all night.

So, now what? The best repair company around already said it was fine and when it quits working it won't be worth repairing. Is that true? Or was it a bad tech? How hard is it to DIY a replacement? At the last house, we had the furnace replaced and it was just a matter of unbolt this one and bolt that one in. (Well, okay, it was a different type of venting so did need a vent pipe installed. For any future replacement, it is unbolt and bolt a new one in.) I am sick of paying people to do work only to have them make a mess of things!

Our friend passed today. The world is not fair. He was too young and such an amazing leader in the community. The general announcement won't go out until tomorrow. Such a sad bit of news even if it was expected :cry2:

I am so sorry :(
And I completely 100% agree with you.
The world is NOT fair.
Full of heartbreak and sadness and tragedy.
Every day, Every hour, Every minute.
I take nothing for granted and I cherish every moment.
Knowing it is all too fleeting

HI:

Why does my DH always talk to me when his mouth is full??? Bad manners notwithstanding, I can't understand a word he says!!!!

cheers--Sharon

I have a love hate relationship with technology today. (Well, most days but today has a different reason.) The official announcement went out to the community including service details. There is only seating for about 500 people so they are encouraging people to get together with friends at their houses to watch the livestream and share memories. Those that do go in person are encouraged to carpool as parking will be tight. Not sure why they didn't expand the area! The room can expand to hold well over 1000. (I think near 2000) I guess I understand somewhat. Even that wouldn't hold everyone who wants to be there. I'm not sure there would be enough parking even if they used all of the parking lots within half a mile! That said, we'll be streaming the service from home. It feels so impersonal and like we *should* be there to honor his memory and support his family, but I know it would just add to the stress and chaos as they try to manage the large number who will show up. (which is likely to be WAY more than 500) I also have to smile at this. Miserable as it is for us, it speaks to just how loved he was. Somehow, he managed to make each of us feel important and cared for so much that most of us consider him and his family as a part of our extended family. What an amazing life of service to our community!

And this is what is all about. He made an impact on so many.

I totally get it. It drives me nuts when I'm on the phone with someone who is clearly eating. I was taught never to do that. And then the warping of the words can be frustrating too.

:x2:x2:x2:x2:x2 Last night several mailbox banks in my neighborhood were broken into including one across the street from me. Mine is farther down the block and so far it's ok. I learned this morning on NextDoor that there were several instances of this all across the city so it seems a coordinated effort (censored) :x2:x2:x2:x2

I used to be an active participant of a local food and drink related group that organises the town's annual food and drink festival, however, I stepped back from being a "committee member" as I could not bare witnessing the b!tchiness at meetings, especially when things were said behind others' backs when all they did was trying to help.

One of the worst offenders recently asked me to help with a Spanish-themed event, to make a tapas dish and rice as I have a catering-size rice cooker that I had lent them in the past.

A number of dishes on the menu had already been decided. She wanted a veggie-friendly dish involving courgettes, something with raw marinated courgette ribbons.

I personally do not like raw courgettes even if they are marinated, so I suggested to briefly cook them on a grill pan, brushed with a marinade of olive oil, chilli, honey, lemon juice, garlic and parsley, salt and pepper to taste. The recipe came from the late Antonio Carluccio, a great Italian chef.

I suggested for the cooked courgettes to be skewered with an olive, allowing 2 per person.

Apparently that was not "Spanish" enough, so I suggested adding some oregano or rosemary to the mix.

The reply was chilli and honey might not feature greatly in Spanish cuisine. :roll2:

So I responded and said just tell me what to make including the recipe, so that I don't have to waste my time coming up with ideas for them not to be suitable.

They don't need me on the day if plain rice is what they are planning to serve instead of Saffron rice which I pointed out would cost a lot in Saffron alone for 60 people. I did suggest substituting Saffron with Turmeric instead, with added gently fried garlic and onions.

She responded more positively, however, she did ask again if my suggested courgette dish could be eaten cold! :roll2: It is very hard to bite my tongue sometimes!

It was via her that I became a cook for the homeless and vulnerable charity, and she also sings in the local choir that I belong. Therefore, I get to meet/see her from time to time.

Not a friend as such, as I don't like to hang around b1tchy negative people that suck the fun out of the joy of life!

Another example of her negativity. The homeless and vulnerable charity received a lot of food donations during the festive period, and fridges and freezers were full to the bream. She commented that she wished it could be like this throughout the year. Can't she just be happy/content for once/a short period of time for the charity???!!!

She comes across as seeing faults in everyone and everything, not my cup of tea to hang out with, hey ho!

Rant over, thanks for reading.

What about annatto instead of saffron for the rice? That should be pretty authentic both in taste and appearance. Your courgette recipe sounds delicious!

Tonight I was a Karen. I know people hate that term and I agree it’s offensive but I knew I was called that after I did what I did.

I just moved into a very nice community of condos, only 20 units, in the middle of a golf course/country club. Several units are occupied by retirees, others are occupied by healthcare professionals, etc. I wanted a quiet place with little to no traffic and zero noise. So far, so good!

Until tonight. I had heard from the HOA pres (young guy, think Brad Pitt in Burn After Reading) previously that his next door neighbor has a $50k sound system in his unit. Ummm, ok. Seemed like a weird thing to shell out thousands for but I’m a jewelry person so who am I to judge? I’m sure you can tell where this is going.

Yes. Around 10 pm things in my place began to vibrate. I was I disbelief at first, and then it got quiet again. I thought I was imagining things. Nope. Next round was enough to send me outside to figure out exactly where the super bass was emanating from. It seemed to literally surround my entire unit. So I texted the HOA president and said “is that the $50k sound system you told me about?” He affirmed that it was. Then he told me I was free to go over and ask the occupant to turn it down because according to Brad Pitt/HOA dude, “he doesn’t take me seriously because I live next door.”

Wut.

Honestly my first reaction was laughter. My second reaction was wow, this guy is a total p*ssy. (And I abhor that word and its connotations!) Like, you’re a dude who lives next door to a dude and YOU can’t casually knock or text and tell him to turn down his nonsense because it’s past 10?! You’re telling me I need to do it???

Anyway, I did it. I about broke my neck because it was so dark and I nearly missed the step up off the street onto his driveway, but I got there. His ring camera didn’t even alert him to my presence for several minutes. Took me 5 different knocks (and I knock like the police when I’ve had it) until he answered the door, shirtless, very “UP,” and I just said hey, I live allllll the way over there (gesturing wildly behind me), I’m in bed with all my fans on and my unit is vibrating from your bass, can you please turn it off?

He was all smiles and yeah, yeah, totally, like what’s your name, I’m Edwin! Ughhhhhhhh I can’t stand people. I should’ve moved to a private island. So now I’m a Karen and the HOA president has no balls. Awesome.

Yay! I'm glad you complained to that idiot.
What a dolt. How selfish to play loud music with no regard for your neighbors.

I used to live in a little house surrounded by rentals.
It seems that some people have absolutely no idea that their music is offensive to their neighbors. It's always young men. So I have dealt with this issue many times.
I would pound on their door and say,
"I can hear YOUR music in MY kitchen.
I do not want to hear YOUR music in MY kitchen. OK????"
And usually the young man is taken aback at being admonished by a woman old enough to be his mother. "Oh, ok sorry" is usually the response.
Luckily, I live in a house now where my neighbors are all old like me, so it's not a problem anymore.

Not a spice that I stock at home, and not stock by my local supermarkets.

Turmeric will do, however, thanks for the suggestion, and kind words about the courgettes.

Confession... I had to look up courgette... !

Very sad to hear about the tapas restaurant in town is closing its doors.

It has been part of my new normal for Friday evenings since my beloved pub in town that was closed in August 2022.

The restaurant had been struggling for some time, as informed to me by their owners, who liked a chat whenever I was early in the evenings when it was quiet.

Shortly after I saw their announcement on FB, I received a call from someone I know who also knows the owners.

They were trying to get hold of me to invite me to a farewell gathering of some sort at the restaurant this evening.

Of course I will be there, and it is so nice for them to invite me!

DK :cry2:
