Let it all hangout -- The Grumpies, whinies, complainies Get It Off Your Chest Thread....

This is minor and first world but it’s annoying nonetheless.

I bought a piece and paid for Priority shipping, checked the tracking and it won’t be here until Monday, thought that was kind of a long time for Priority. Checked the shipping details and it was sent First Class :confused2:

I hate having jewelry in the mail longer than necessary so I almost always pay for upgraded shipping. Oh well, it will be here eventually.

I also ordered DH’s Father’s Day present last week and a shipping label was created but it hasn’t shipped yet….blah!

@dk168, I went to the beach last year and sat under an umbrella, thinking I wouldn’t need sunscreen. Boy was I wrong, I was so burnt I think I had sun poisoning.

Sorry you’re having to deal with a bad burn, it is very uncomfortable. I just kept putting aloe on it and that seemed to help.

I don't get burnt nowadays as I avoid the sun.

When I got burnt at 14, I was wearing a swimming suit (I was learning to swim at a swimming pool at the time in Hong Kong in the summer, DOH), and peeled badly where the skin was exposed. Very stupid thing to do.

DK :))

Sorry, missed the part that you were 14 at the time! Anyways, we are at least wiser now as a result, I’m not a beach person anyways so it’s easy to just avoid it entirely, fair skin and beach are Just not a great pairing.

I go to beaches to walk the dog!

Not a pool person either.

Last week when I was camping, it was hot and sunny for me most days, and I chased the shade around my van when other people would chase the sun! :lol-2:

Stories like that make me glad to be a western Washington (state) girl :eek-2:. I am pale enough to blind you in the sun  and turn red at the faintest hint of hot temperatures or sunlight. When I go outside in summer, most people see me and exclaim at how badly burned I am and offer the use of their sunscreen. Explaining to each that I slathered spf 50 over my entire naked body before dressing then applied again on all exposed skin after dressing and applied yet another layer as soon as I got to the outdoor event and have no fewer than two tubes of SPF 50 to reapply throughout the day despite making sure I stay shaded as much as possible....
It gets old, but it comes from a place of caring. But it does get old!

ETA: rosacea doesn't help. Meds for rosacea don't help. Meds for MS don't help. Yes, I am one of those blindingly pale people who instantly turns bright red :wall: except with the meds, I turn red due to warmth so never know if I actually burned until I get back to air conditioning!

Thank You notes - are they truly a lost art? For several years, I have sent very generous checks for high school/college graduation to family members. Nieces and nephews, we rarely see. 3 of them I have not seen since they were toddlers. My checks were cashed immediately but we never received a thank you note. Heck, even a text would suffice! My kids know better - you need to respond and be thankful!

Last night we poured all our energy into pulling off a family gathering of sorts that was very much out of our control but hinged on our participation and contributions. It was at the point of us just saying “fine” to get it over with sooner.

I’m trying not to be bitter but the simplest act of being appreciative and saying thank you instead of being entitled and judgemental on the small details would have gone a long way. :(

My husband can be such an ahole. I showed him a yellow diamond ring I wanted to purchase (gorgeous in my eyes) and he said it looked like frozen pee. Now I can’t unsee it :x2 a FYD has been on my wishlist forever and he’s ruined it.

Honestly I just Venmo money to kids for graduations these days. 9/10 I receive a “thank you!” through the app. I stopped spending money on greeting cards and I don’t attend grad parties since Covid…it’s just kind of the times we’re in.

Otoh, my 11 year old is required to hand-write thank you notes to gift-givers and anyone who has helped her with coaching, her non-profit, etc. She absolutely complains but she understands that it’s proper etiquette even if no one else seems to be doing it anymore.

I remember 20 years ago I attended my cousin’s wife’s baby shower and she had everyone address their own thank you note envelope right there at the shower. My mother and I couldn’t believe it. Now I look back and think “at least she bothered writing out the notes and sending them!”

I need to be kind.
I must remember to be kind.

Being able to bite my tongue and being diplomatic are not my strong points!

At least you know your weaknesses!

I hope you have a great day @dk168!

Someone insulted me and since I am working on not being prideful I am not reacting. It's hard. Thanks for letting me vent.

My friggin' top of line PC decided to bug out and die, so I'm using one of the kid's old laptops. I personally hate laptops. I don't like the key feel. I have to go and order one, though. No more towers for me!

Aaaaaaagggggggggghhhhhhhhh!

Feel better now, thanks for letting me vent.

I still have to bite my tongue, however, rather than just to listen to the negative comments/moans/whatever, I have started to counter-reason/argue.

"Can't do this and that because of this and that" was met with "yes, however, it does not mean you can't do something else, just need to change and adapt!"

Not sure if it went down well or not, however, it made me feel better for it.

Can't stand people who moan, what good moaning? Do something instead! :roll2:

One of my ex-colleagues and friends said I don't moan, I complain. And when I asked him what he meant, he replied moaning leads to nothing, whereas a complaint usually leads to some form of action(s) being taken.

DK ;)2

A complaint made along with a possible solution can be viewed more favorably than a complaint made by itself.

Indeed, however, the recipient may react strongly against suggested resolution as he/she may think you are telling him/her how to do his/her job.

That has happened to me a few times, hey ho!

It is possible but a suggestion suggests that you have given the issue some thought and tried to come up with something that might work. Far better than just a complaint that you are throwing in their court to fix. Open minded people should try to appreciate it. Might not work, might need modification but it can be a starting point.

One of the reasons I was rejected by a government agency nearly 20 years ago was that I was "too helpful" when a deficiency was cited during a role play session, by offering ideas of possible remedial actions.

Lesson learnt the hard way!

As I had said, more than once I offered possible remedial actions and was told I was interfering/teaching grandmothers how to suck eggs/etc. etc.., so I seldom bother nowadays.

That is unfortunate that they took that position. Being able to listen is key to being a good leader. Sorry that it happened to you that way.

I can understand why they do not allow their staff to offer help individually without consultation with the others, in that one person's idea of being enough is not necessarily the same as another in the same position or high rank with more experience, etc. etc...

Their approach is for the company to come up with remedial actions and submit them, for government agency to agree/disagree.

I understand that as an end result, but in an individual circumstance, suggestions for future
brainstorming sessions couldn’t hurt. The company is not one person. However, if you understand their methods and accept them, then all is well!

Brain storming involving more than one subject matter experts may be needed for more complex and serious issues. It depends on the nature of the issues.

I think you are missing my point so I’ll end it here. Have a great day!

I just had to walk down the street and tell two young men to stop shooting illegal fireworks over my house.
They stopped.

I'm sure they had some choice words for me after I walked away.

An eBay seller price-hiked an item immediately after I made an offer for one of their old inventory.

DK :roll2:

It's finally dark, and firecrackers and illegal fireworks are going off all around my neighborhood. It sounds like a war out there.

This will go on all night, and I have to work in the morning.
