Let it all hangout -- The Grumpies, whinies, complainies Get It Off Your Chest Thread....

HI:

OKOKOK wrecked two clothing items...shrunk gorgeous top in dryer, and too hot an iron on shorts. Really?

cheers--Sharon

Welp, pipe just cracked under the house and guess what, it's so old there is no individual shut off to the shower. So, no water house wide until tomorrow. Joy!
* Thank glob my DH can do plumbing. He's more annoyed than anything- it's in the crawl space portion of our basement so there's only 3 ft of clearance. It's gross and wet.
All hail PEX and all it's fittings, means no sweating pipes in small spaces!

What's our motto kids? It's always something.

it realaly amkes you appreate water on tap when you dont have any
we had that happen a year or two ago
before we brought it the house had had its water pipes replaced......except for one metre????? -guess where it broke ?
we went to bed and heard water running
got the torch and it was a lake under there
had to fossok around out in the grass on the other side of the front fence trying to find the toby to turn it off in the dark
i would normally have filled up the bath or at least the electric jug but i had to run over next door the next morning with a bucket

but yes it is gross under the house
we have about 1m clearence so we had to get a skinny plumber, the little door is too small for anyone except Boris the cat - the poor apprentence got sent out

did our grocery shop on line as usual
ordered the wrong coffee
the wrong cat lollies
forgot to get me something snacky as i got him peanuts
forgot to order instant gravy
but ordered two lots (different brands) of something i'll probably never use again

Thanks Daiz, it is! Pex to the rescue!
Same, it was the last little bit of old piping. Luckily we have supplies because we didn't have water hooked up when the power went out until last year, so we had plenty of bottled for winter storms still. Yes, it was definitely a reminder that plumbing made the world:lol:

doesnt it make you wild :angryfire: to think who ever replaced the old pipping and was such a little bit -short why! why! why!
im guessing they were too tight to buy another length of pipe or if it was a proffesional plumber too lazy to go get some more

First night trying to sleep in the land of the midnight sun.. in a tent.

This is what it looked like outside at 11pm:

IMG_6953.jpeg

That is as dark as it got all night.

Hubby can fall asleep within five minutes under absolutely any circumstances. I can have trouble falling asleep in a dark room - though I can usually stay asleep once I fall asleep. I never managed to fall asleep last night. And we’ll be traveling a lot farther north before we turn south again, and we’ve got another week or two to go before we hit the equinox.

Funny thing is, we were only about 150 miles south last night, but the difference in the level of darkness at night seemed like, well, night and day.

I brought some herbal sleep capsules that have worked pretty well for me in the past. I didn’t take one last night because I had no idea how bad it would be! I didn’t bring a full complement… I’m hoping that I brought enough to get me through the three weeks left of this trip!

Thank you! I’m pretty much back to my abnormal normal sleep patterns, with a little help from the herbal sleep concoction. It turns out I can sleep with our down blanket pulled over my face if need be to provide a little extra darkness. =)2

And I’ve taken to taking “11:30 PM” shots just because. Here’s last night’s:

Not one to complain usually, but this was me yesterday on the way home from having a basal cell carcinoma with a deep root removed. It's extremely painful & tight, with ten stitches along my hairline.

The good news is that it was contained & all removed in one go, so it will never reoccur & I am counting my lucky stars that I don't have to give it another thought.

But please.... Check your skin, peeps.

This wasn't a mole or anything typical we would associate with skin cancer. It was a 3mm little pink pearly type hard blister, like a bead. Tiny. I only noticed it due to lotion & potion application & got it checked out on a whim 12 months after I first noticed it.

So glad you're ok ☺️

Sending lots of healing vibes @Ally T. Very glad you're ok!

Thank you @stracci2000 & @junebug17 . I’ve been very lucky & feel I need to make a public service announcement about the danger of getting burnt! I lived in NZ for years in my 20’s, had a convertible car & a permanently scorched forehead. The surgeon reckons this was at least 20 years in the making, so it fits.

HI:

Brutal wildfire smoke and stink today. Hepa filter on full blast. Stay safe folks!

cheers--Sharon

Men! :wall:

DH complained a few days ago that he felt like he had something in his eye. Like a piece of dirt or an eyelash on it. Fine. He rinsed with clean water and complained later it was still bothering him. Okay. I looked and didn't see anything. May be just irritated from rinsing earlier. Looked again and opened up a new bottle of eye drops in case it was just dry. The next morning it was still bothering him but a bit better. More drops. Later in the day, still bothering him but the drops are helping so did more. Didn't hear anything about his eye since and he has quit trying to look at it through his cellphone camera. Two days go by without any mention even when I ask how he's feeling. Fine. So tonight at almost 10pm, he said that he thinks he better take tomorrow off of work to see an optometrist. Okay.... Why? It is still bothering him. Only it is getting worse. And he is sure it is floaters plus flashes of light. Probably nothing but it could be serious.
I used the online tool and booked him for an appointment tomorrow. Not sure if the online schedule is working correctly as it showed every appointment slot open. Whatever. Will confirm in the morning. In the meantime, he has three separate insurance plans depending on how the appointment is coded so the ladies in the office will have to sort through that confusing mess

Yes, I will go with for the appointment because it is either nothing or it is something. If it is something, I need to hear what it is and how to address because he is the absolute worst at remembering details on things like this :eek-2:

I'm so glad you are alright! My dad had melanoma removed a bit over 5 years ago from his face, the plastic surgeon did a wonderful job and everything was removed in one go with no chemo or radiation needed, but he had pieces cut off every 3 months there for a while (all basal and squamous cell carcinomas). It's been a couple years since the last removal but he still gets a full head to toe check every 3 months.

Everyone should be seen regularly by a dermatologist, there are so many things we don't associate with cancer or abnormalities that can be.

Yes, I did use Dr. Google. I'm hauling DH in to be there as soon as the office opens. He should have been seen a week ago. Hoping it is still an easy repair and doesn't need a full surgery at this point! This man is backwards, I swear! Got a little scratch? The world is ending and it must have flash eating bacteria. Leg hanging by a thread? Nah, I'm good! :wall: :wall: :wall:

My mother is in a rehab center (the nursing home kind, not the substance abuse kind) for now.

She has refused to acknowledge some mental health issues for decades and obviously refused therapy or meds. Which has meant that ever so often there is an incredible upset in which she becomes severely ill and just cannot do anything, can’t eat/drink/take meds, move, etc. It is taxing on us all. It happened a lot when I was a kid and she didn’t want to go on vacation. Or the night before my first wedding. Or any time she isn’t getting ALL the attention. Since she has always been a SAHM or not employed outside the home it’s been easy for her to hide her issues. Now that she is going on 81 years old and has actual physical health issues things are getting real.

She has given some unsavory people access to her home and bank accounts, among other things, recently. This has caused major upset for my brother and I as well as my SIL who due to proximity usually ends up dealing with her when my brother is working.

A few weeks ago we were at her home for Mother’s Day and she asked us again to start making notes of what we would like from her estate or to just tell her (this had gone on for years) I finally just said “I would really like these 3 pieces of art.” She became SO irate you’d have thought I asked for her entire collection or more. It’s literally 3 pieces that would have meaning only for me and no one else in our family nor her circle. Her reaction was so over the top we just said our goodbyes and left. Since then I’ve had an uneasy feeling that things aren’t right.

One of the people she has allowed into her home the past several years to clean and help with various tasks she has told me is involved in an online relationship with a man overseas, and to me it has always sounded like this woman is being scammed. And I wonder if she is taking money from my mother to send to him. I’ve alerted my brother and SIL but I worry some damage may have already been done. She and my father were extremely good with finances but when people are grieving and lonely they are easily taken advantage of.

Hopefully she gets better and we can actually discuss realistic options. If not I’m afraid my brother and SIL and I have a serious fight on our hands. :(

After all that, it was *just* a regular floater that occurs with aging. Nothing exciting. His vision is still disgustingly good. His eyes are still healthier than people decades younger. His "floaters" was a single one and the "flashes" were just occasionally. Dr did all of the looking including pressure testing, retinal mapping, and more. Then dilated and did the mapping again. Plus looked the old fashioned way. Based on his description from last night, he had to suffer through no food or drink until seeing the Dr as he was describing straight down the middle of a tear on the verge of fully detached retina so surgery likely. Glad it was nothing, but grrrrr! Better descriptions necessary and NOT saying it feels better until it becomes urgent :wall: :wall:

Oh.... His leg hanging by a thread is pretty nearly true. About 20 years ago, he slipped and busted his leg badly. Tib/fib break with bones sticking out and rebar sticking out of the ground tangled in the mess. Crazy guy refused pain meds in the ER :eek-2:

Monarch. Its so hard to go thru declining cognition with parents or spouse. Im seeing/ hearing about it from friends who are going through it now. I read this this Morning and thought it might be useful.

DO NOT LOOK IF SQUEAMISH!!!

I am shouting about sun screen far & wide.

Here I am, three & five days post procedure. I have a wound 1.5 inches long that cut down to the bone & had a 1cm width of skin removed. For a teeny tiny 3mm pink spot....

I've only just started using sunscreen on my ears a few weeks ago... :???: Usually my hair covers my ears, and then I realized just how often I wear my hair up off my face ("ponytail") with my ears in the sun.

Glad to hear you are ok now @Ally T ! Thank you for the reminder to be better about sunscreen.

My face is breaking out. I’m too old for cystic acne (50) and I have the type of skin that hyper-pigments so it will be on my face for at least 6 - 12 months. The last two made me look like I had Devil horns. Now I just got a new one on the right side of my face!

@Ally T get well soon!

I got badly burnt when I was 14, and had been avoiding the sun ever since.

I wear a wide bream bucket hat when I go out, and would only sit in the shade when it is sunny.

I joked about other people chase the sun when I chase the shade as I kept moving to the shades during a recent camping trip!

Yes to applying sunscreen, including back of my neck and legs which I usually forget!

DK :))

So sorry that you had that terrible injury. Burn injuries are so bad.
