Let's talk about CS projects in progress

My ring is done!

The stone itself is darker than I had hoped for and what I thought it would be from the rough (video linked below), but Jeff did a great job with the cut and David did a wonderful job with the ring. From Jeff, "The finished sapphire is a really lovely blue-green in most lights, and shifts to a more decidedly green hue in some lights (incandescent and LED). David says that it does appear a bit brighter in hand than the camera shows. I'm happy with the results although I think I would like to do this ring again with a something lighter that highlights the cut.

Your ring looks stunning! What a beautiful setting, it really complements the stone.

This is going to be utterly delicious & is right up my alley!
I'm In love with gem silica & eyed yours for quite a long time!
Beautiful!

I'm back on my "turquoise and ruby" ring idea. The idea is set the gem silica with a half halo of spinels, arranged roughly like so:

Screen Shot 2021-01-12 at 9.26.56 PM.png

(Terrible photo, and the spinels are upside down).

I was inspired by this Artemer ring, though I plan for it to be executed more cleanly. I like the engraved lines/negative space between the halo stones and want to include it in my design. My very rough, very bad prototype looks like this:

GemSilSpi 1.png

(The half halo won't be pointy! I wanted to show the idea of the lines.)

I dislike the band on the Artemer ring, though. I want to riff off of art deco for this. Maybe something like...

Engraved shoulders?
Screen Shot 2021-01-12 at 10.04.43 PM.png

Engraved band? (Too ornate?)
Screen Shot 2021-01-12 at 10.06.56 PM.png

A grooved line or two running around the band (like this, except less wide and titanium)? Or is that too many lines?
Screen Shot 2021-01-12 at 10.13.42 PM.png

I'm leaning no milgrain, made in matte yellow gold.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Pricescopers have such keen eyes for design, so I'm open to all ideas.

I love both the color combo, and where you are going with the design. I have some thoughts and want to look around for some examples first. Will be back!

@remetau oh wow I have never heard of gem silica but this is such a gorgeous colour I don’t know what I want to do more eat it or swim in it :)

@Rfisher what a lovely colour so soft and clean. I love the unique style of the band. The slightly harder edged look of crumpled foil almost against the soft colour of the stone ❤️

Daniel M has just sent me pics of my finished ring. I purchased some mahenge spinels at auction for a good price and wanted a band for my index finger.

I had it made in sterling silver I am trying to do this a bit more now if I pick up inexpensive stones.

All in it was just under $300 can’t wait to see it in person 8527B6CA-09BD-4F06-A1D2-8FA0360622E3.jpeg36E51E2E-3D85-473B-BBE5-29F260019697.jpeg336056AD-4B70-4036-9039-51B649AAF130.jpegEB25A25C-92B4-411A-8B6F-C54A50E11718.jpeg

I cannot find the ring I was looking for - darn. It had bead set (into a metal box type area) cs in a fan /Art Deco inspired half halo. Think it was a round center. And it looked well crafted.
I think in googling pictures of Art Deco/inspired fan jewelry - you’ll see plenty of the look can change heavily if the fan is graduated or not, rounded or square, and if the fan covers the shank or starts aside to the shank.
double thumbs up from me for something like the engraved shoulders you showed and a tiny channel down the shank.

Thank you for the reply – you described what I was thinking for the fan/half halo, but "bead set" wasn't coming to mind and having that vocabulary is super helpful. It's helping me pull up more photos.

I agree how the shank sits in relation to the fan/halo (next to it or under it) really changes the look, and I think deciding on that first will help me decide what detailing to put on it.

Many thanks for the suggestions! I appreciate it.

For a brief moment, I thought this was a finished ring with an edgy organic style.
Your stone looks beautiful! Very pad like in this lighting.

It actually does look very similar to my eye to what’s on my monitor in this one lighting environment!

Me, edgy?
I think the finished ring (whenever that is) will be a dedicated to al fresco breakfast dining opportunities - lol!

My DH's wedding band will be getting a facelift!

It currently has these tiny channel set sapphires that are so dark you can barely tell they're blue.

20210111_222209.jpg

We finally went to a local jeweler who is in the process of sourcing some different colored melee for us. They said they could widen the channel (?) a bit and create an opening underneath to allow for bigger stones and to let more light in. Should be hearing back from the jeweler soon. Can't wait to see what they have to offer!

He is such a delight to work with. He takes an idea described and brings it to life. An inexpensive way to get stones set.

This beautiful pink spinel cut by Gene at Precision Gem will go into this preloved BG Summer setting! I'm thrilled as I've always wanted a 3 stone with a pink center. Sides are .2 FG pears each. Center is about 6.4mm. 807331807333807334806640
I'll send it for setting and sizing to my right hand hopefully this week! Thanks for looking.

Best feeling ever matching the perfect stone with the perfect preloved setting.

So beautiful! Can't wait to see it all finished - what a good pairing:kiss2:

Thanks @AnastasiaBeaverhausen I agree I love finding the setting and the stone, sometimes we don't know which we will find first.
Thanks @bright&shiny me too I'm excited! Will mail it off later this week. I wish the color would show up better on my pics. It's a very pretty medium pink.

Oh I love finding vintage settings for stones, and stones for vintage settings! My upcoming "projects" are precisely that.
I just bought this vintage plat and diamond setting for my new oec cut zircon-- will be sending it off to be reset (photo shopped my stone in):
20210120_133919.jpg

I also found the perfect new zircon to replace the worn one in a setting I bought some time ago (will be sending it to be reset also. Maybe with yellow gold bezel for center? ):

I'm with you @bling_dream19 , something so satisfying in this "hobby"!

They are both gorgeous, and I particularly love the blue pendant!

These are going to be so fabulous!! Are you going to get the worn blue zircon repaired? It looks like an old cut, very beautiful. Not to dissuade you from your plan (the new zircon is beautiful too), but it could fit back in the setting after a crown repair if the pavilion doesn't need help too... the zircon I had a crown repair done on with Jerry Newman didn't change in diameter.

I've done a reset of a sentimental BE sapphire I bought my mother almost 20 years ago, when I was either in college or a poor recent grad. I was very tickled to find out that large BE stones are now going for around 200/ct, though it's still not an expensive stone. :mrgreen2: My mother loved this stone so much she literally wore through its prior setting.

These are CaiMao's photos, Kyo's studio setup washes out colored stones, they are a lot more vivid in real life. Looking forward to taking better photos of it before I send it off to her. 9.3mm sapphire, 2.5mm diamonds, 2.5mm tsavorite, and 1.6mm spinel. From the photos it looks like they did a fabulous job executing on the design:
