Andi, I LOVE the two tone! It''s so pretty!

You are all just EVIL

teasing and torturing me with your new settings and rings! They are beautiful and such great deals!

Hey! Sonoma, I want you to snap up that split shank - I saw it myself, and I want it to go to a good home (since I can''t buy it myself - too many gem=related purchases lately).

Can someone tell me what the consensus was on upgrading to VS? Is it worth it, or do you think the SI is fine? I''m going to be paying another $50 for sizing (he can make it in a 3.5!), so I''m not sure if I want to pay another $100 for upgrading if you guys don''t feel it''s really necessary.

Thanks!

ETA: Oopsy, double post.

There is a lovely pendant going for a song (less than $40 with 2 hours to go). It is a halo for an emerald cut.

For all of you getting your stones and settings though the internet, how does your jeweler react to setting pieces you did not buy through them. I have gotten pretty negative responses when I bring in stones I bought online. How much is the setting fee?

My jeweler will set the stones, even though it''s not their stone or setting. They''re a very well known jeweler in my area (a large metropolitan area). They charge ALOT for setting though. For white gold settings, it can cost over $100 to set a stone because they charge alot for the required polishing and replating with rhodium. I think I can find that cheaper. They do good work that I can trust (no stone chipping or nicks), so that''s why I take it to them. I''m sure you can find less expensive setting fees though.

Thanks, I ran into the same issue when I had my sapphire. It is well worth paying for someone to do a good job. I think the challenge will be someone who is willing to take the money for the setting fees without putting down my stuff because it was "bought online."

Do you not have many jewelers in your area? If you do, I suggest you find someone with reputable work. Perhaps you can ask the forum if they know of a decent jeweler in your area that does careful work. I won a sphene on ebay, and I would like to get it set when it''s here, but it''s scary trusting anyone, even a well known jeweler, with that kind of stone. At least many jewelers are familiar with working with sapphires, and it''s a durable stone for setting. Or, you could try getting it set through one of the jewelers that are visible here. You would just have pay for shipping fees and insurance.

Wow, I don't think I would do business with a jeweler who belittled my obviously well-cut gemstones from Barry Bridgestock and John B. I'm sorry you've had to go through that.

I would find a new jeweler, maybe someone a little smaller who does custom work - ask around Rocky Talky or SMTR for your area. I'm sure some PSer will have a good recommendation for you.

I think I will do that when I get closer to choosing a setting for my tsav. There was one on the LOGR site that really cought my eye :-). I live in the San Diego area, but go up to the OC enough where I should have options. Thanks for showing off these settings BTW, gives a nice options, I thought a setting with diamonds would run me a lot more before I saw this.

Ok so a couple things... Got my ring back from the jeweler today... They mentioned every opportunity they could that they do custom jewelery and could have done it for me... ya im sure you could have for double or triple the price... and then they set my diamond... and then when I pick it up today they say, oh the head isnt soidered(sp?) in their right so be careful and that they couldnt fix it?? Okay so why didnt you call me BEFORE you set it so I could figure out what to do?!?! So I am going to talk to the guy from LOGR and see what he says...

BUT if you click here you can see some pics I took- arent the best BUT i am going to take more in the sunlight tomorrow hopefully!! :-)

My Mozambique tourmaline is a specific roval size that will not fit exactly into the setting I picked out earlier (I have two LOGR settings to arrive). My jeweler would charge at least $300 (almost the cost of the basic LOGR setting) just for the mold to accomodate the stone. They would charge at least another $1000 for the VS diamonds, and another $1000 for the gold. I''m not kidding, since gold prices went up, jewelers now think they can charge through the roof for gold. I remember a time when they would charge something like $9 for each point of diamond, but now that went up through the roof as well. Then on top of that, they charge a setting fee for each diamond and stone they set, which is also a huge fee. By the time my jeweler made a setting like that of LOGR, it would cost probably in the high $2,000''s + tax. I''m sorry, but that''s ridiculous. That being said, there are some jewelers that are known for beautiful custom work, and I encourage everyone who can afford it to use them. There are some drop dead gorgeous settings advertised on this board, and I love the stunning custom work that everyone shows off.

Crossing fingers, eyes, toes, and legs for you, love!

I am watching a setting today, and I hope it stops getting bid up so high. I barely missed the last one of these he had - it went for $179, but I missed bidding by a few minutes because of work.

Stupid work.

Oh, I know! I was watching that one, too! Didn''t think to post it here when it was only at $137ish.

I''m going to see if the OEC I have on its way will fit in the split shank, and if it doesn''t, I''ll have him change the bezel size to fit the diamond.

If I don''t need to change it, I have my eye on some lovely round 6.5mm stones that I''d love to put in it.

YOu gals are going to get me in trouble.

I had been so tempted while perusing the LOGR store on EBay, but after reading this thread, I think I may go over the edge! LTP, Congratulations to winning and "stealing" that setting! YOu are the LOGR queen!! I will have to post settings that I was considering for my Kunzite. I just don''t want it to look "Gawdy" since it is a big stone. ......... So good to know that I can get a nice setting without breaking the bank
36.gif
........now if I can find a jeweler that won''t break the bank---that is a whole other story.
