I really hope that the Lyrica is the ticket to controlling your pain until the doctors decide what to do. I was beginning to think you''d never get relief!

I am delighted for you . . . no one should have to be in that kind of pain for that long. Keep us posted and let us know how you are doing!

Thanks everybody.

I guess this last week has taught me a lesson: new meds are not always a quick fix.

I am now blessed with more severe pain than ever, and added to that, (just for fun) is the icepick I feel shoved into my teeth all day long.....

I''m on day 5 of the med transition, so maybe in another week or so we''ll see some progress.

Sorry to be so depressing. I''m having a hard time coping with this, while all the Christmas stuff is cranking up.

I appreciate your prayers and good wishes.

Sending you good thoughts and hugs honey, I am so sorry. Strong prayers outgoing

LS: I am so sorry to hear this. Maybe it takes a few weeks for the new meds to kick in. I hope it will be sooner then that though. This is sure a crummy way to be spending Christmas. I feel so bad for you.

Love, Linda

Oh, no! Praying for pain relief..........................

HALLELUIA!!!!!

SO glad to hear about the new meds!

ETA: Crap. Didn't read all the way through the thread before I posted. I still say yay for new meds, but now also fingers crossed that they start doing some good for you soon.

I know it's tough to have a setback at this point - there's nothing harder to deal with than that kind of disappointment when you're already burnt to a socket by the pain.

Drug transitions suck. So sorry...

sorry to hear it is back.

Oh, I hate hearing this LS. Hang in there sweetie, I can''t imagine how hard this is.

Did the doc say this would be normal during the transition?

I am praying for relief, and sending uber big hugs your way. See?

{{{UBER BIG HUGS}}}

LS I am really sorry to hear this but it is possible with the new meds they need some time to reach effective therapeutic levels, check with your doc as the dosage could need adjusting too.

LS, I''m so, so sorry! I wish there was something I could do to make your pain go away other than to send you big soft cyber hugs. I sincerely hope it''s just that you need more time with this new med or maybe a higher dose.

Hi everyone.

No ice pick today (YAY!) so maybe it''s starting to settle down and work. The monster is awake but not yelling too loudly yet...

I''m just hoping for a bit of relief by Christmas. *fingers crossed*.

Thank you all for your suggestions about reporting this to the doctor. But we''re now into Christmas week and they''re all gone until the New Year. That was my panic a few weeks ago, that I would have gotten NO intervention by now. But I have the new meds and we''ll see how that goes.

Funny maybe the ice pick thing is a good thing: like, I''m grateful now that it''s gone, and can live with the monster?

Is there a general practitioner you can contact about the meds and possible dosage adjustment if needed, who is covering over the Holidays?

Hi Lorelei

My family doctor lives just 1/2 km away from me, and I can call her up any time. The problem is, she''s kind of "out of her league" with this one.

I think at worst, I stay on the new protocol until I see the neurologist (BRILLIANT guy) on Jan 6th. I''m happy to see the icepick gone. Starting on Dec 26th I go completely off the old meds, and double up on the new. If something dire happens I would go to emerg at the neurosurgeon''s hospital (that facility specializes in neuro so I could be sure to have a practitioner who had a clue....).

LS

Sending huge hugs your way LS. I am so sorry you are in such pain. I pray the ice pick stays away, and that the monster chills out and lets you have a Merry Christmas.

I don't mean to be a yenta [nag], but I wonder if your PCP has been underestimating your pain. It sounds pretty dire to me. Often, the pain clinics will prescribe a combination of meds in order to hit different pain trigger points. I'm not sure that I'm describing this correctly. If the icepick returns, please don't hesitate to the ED for assistance. I'm am thinking of you every day and hoping for you to get some relief. [/nag] I nag because I care...

We have a pain management clinic at the hospital where i work, they are there 6 days a week but there is a hotline number to call if you have questions or concerns about your pain.

I am sorry you are in pain but hopefully the monster can take a nap for a few days and leave you alone.

No worries, I love yentas!

I hesitate to go into just any ER or to any Doc because this kind of thing is frequently diagnosed and I don't want them to muck around with things. The neurologist has done a very thorough workup and he is in communication with the neurosurg. My preference is to let these 2 big kahunas in the field handle it, as opposed to some twit (ie: my own family doc).

In the meantime, what was a "10" on the pain scale a month ago is now about a "5". How fast this monster is moving! It's at the point where "no icepick" = "a reasonably good day" ....

kidding...slightly

Today I have no icepick, and the pain is a bit under control. I EVEN took pics of my bling and posted it in irishgrrrl's poll re: "how many pieces of jewellry do you wear daily". So maybe we can gauge my pain by how many (if any) posts I reply to on PS??

And thanks for nagging.

Aw. ((HUGS)) You''ll beat that monster yet!!! I''m glad the icepick is gone, and am praying that the new meds will give you more relief.
And lol on gauging your progress by PS posts.

I am praying hard that your pain goes away. During the holidays in particular it feels even worse to be in pain.
Just wanted to say l am thinking of you and wishing you well. Hugs.

Yes, praying for a pain-free Christmas, LS.

I've joined a neuro-brain community forum. Hopefully this will keep me from becoming too morose, negative and generally miserable here on PS.

But it's so hard. The Christmas Carols make me cry. Reading the excitement in LIW makes me cry. Recipes? I eat and then I cry.
emcry.gif

All I want for Christmas is to have the axe removed from my face. Geez how pathetic does it get?

As for the meds, well, it sure is nice to have the IcePick gone. But nothing else has changed *yet*. A girl can dream, right? I asked the neurologist to keep me functional until XMAS eve. But I DAMN WELL EXPECTED TO BE IN LA LA LAND ON XMAS DAY AND THE WEEK THEREAFTER. So we'll see...2 more sleeps.

Gonna just grit my teeth, dig my nails into my palms for another day and see how things go.
Night night. Thank you for listening.

My sentiments exactly. Thinking of you!

--- Gonna just grit my teeth ----

Oh dear, don''t do that. It will send your tmj''s into more of a tizzy.
2.gif

I''m glad (said with crossed fingers)that things are a bit better. Is the neurontin making you tired? Say, I know this is no where near the magnitude of relief you need - but have you ever tried massage therapy? I''ve done all the therapies (severe fibromyalgia) and massage works the best. (It actually does wonders.) Chiropractor, too, but I don''t know if that is contraindicated for you.

Well, Lost, wishing you happy holidays. There has to be a way to suppress this, there has to. Big soft hugs.

Ditto LS, I would too. I think about you every day and I wish this stinkin'' horrible monster would just take a hike. I hope the new meds kick in soon too. I feel so darn bad for you. I would want to cut my head off too, you poor sweetheart.
