Sarah, yeah that''s a lot of money for a photographer. To be honest, the photographer is probably going to be my biggest splurge. It''s really important to me to have someone who shoots with multiple cameras, including film, digital and vintage cameras. I also want a photojournalistic/fine art approach. I''m a designer, so that may be why the photos are so important to me. I also feel that after the day is done, the photos are all you really have left. I''m not hiring a videographer, so I''m going to splurge on photos.

Hey we''re photography twins! Haha. I want the same thing. I really don''t like posed photos and I am an amateur photographer so it is REALLY REALLY important to me that they take photos at least I would take. And if they can take ones I wouldn''t think about wow that''s a bonus! It is so hard for me to find photographers I actually like.

I''ve narrowed it down to a few though. I really want to keep the budget under about $5000 not including bridal portraits. I am still deciding on the videographer, was thinking about using FI''s uncle he does video on the side and has some decent editing software.

Sarah, I''ve found some really good photographers in LA for $5000-6000, so I would think that in Virginia you''d be able to find good photographers for the same or less! Also, check into different packages. If you love a photographer that will give you a CD of all your images, maybe you can forgo the pricey photo albums for now and have one made later on?

hi calicushion, since you are having the ceremony outdoors, i would pick march....have you heard of the term "may gray"? thats all i recall hearing on weather forecasts during may. its very similar to "june gloom"....overcast and kind of smoggy.

it has been just lovely here the past couple of weeks.

TeeTee, thanks for informing me about "may gray". I would not have thought of that.

So now I need to figure out which is a better option: A day in March where rain is more likely, but still unlikely, or a day in May, a week from Mother''s Day, with a very slim chance of rain but probably cloudy and/or smoggy skies.

I''m very confused on the flower pricing though. I plan to use peonies and orchids. Peonies will be in season in May, which should make them cheaper and more readily available. But since the wedding would be a week before Mothers Day, are my flowers prices going to be inflated?

Call a few florists in your area, that's my suggestion. Get the recommendations from your local board on the knot as to who to call.

Orchids aren't a problem in terms of supply. Even peonies, unless your in february or september are available... it's just a matter of price. Call and ask them when the florals would be more reasonable. I'd also call a couple of photographers, videographers and DJs (if you are having them) and see if they offer an off season reduced rate for March.

I would go with May. I wouldn''t want to deal with the possibility of rain.

would u get a discount if you did it in march.. since it might be considered the offseason for weddings?

I decided on May 2...I''d rather not chance the rain, peonies will be in season, and there''s no discount for March. Thanks for all your help everyone!
