Hi everyone,
I’m back from Jamaica & married! There were a few minor hitches, but everything went well.
The trip to Jamaica was pretty long & tiring. It didn’t help that the airline lost one of our bags. Fortunately I had packed all of the wedding essentials in my carry-on bag & our lost bag was recovered & returned to us the day after we arrived in Jamaica.
The island & resort were stunningly beautiful. I’d been looking at photos for months, but I wasn’t prepared to literally be swept away by “Swept Away.” We arrived on Thursday night & I was pretty stressed by the trip & our lost luggage, but it was nothing a snapper sandwich & piña colada couldn’t fix! We were in the ocean frolicking with our family & friends within an hour. Both our families had already arrived & were getting along fabulously.
On Friday, we met with the resort’s wedding coordinator. I was a bit nervous going into this meeting knowing we’d have to plan all of the details of our wedding in an hour, but our coordinator was fabulous & took care of everything. After we finished planning our wedding, we had some time to relax before we headed off on a catamaran cruise to Pirate’s Cave where we swam & went cliff jumping. (Well, some of us did…) The resort had planned a big dinner & party on the beach for Friday evening so we took advantage of that on Friday. There was lots of great local Jamaican cuisine & music & was a great way to welcome us to the island.
Our wedding was scheduled for 3pm on Saturday afternoon. We met everyone for a late breakfast, then I headed off to the spa to get my nails, hair & makeup done. I surfaced around 2:00 to find it was pouring rain. I had to get all the way across the resort to my room to get dressed, then to the beach for our wedding in an hour. As I didn’t have an umbrella, I decided to wait at the bar in my swimsuit & wedding makeup for the weather to clear up. Eventually, a nice man with an umbrella walked me to my room. Fortunately, the weather cleared up & cooled off in time for our wedding.
The wedding itself went really well. It was very simple & emotional for both of us. The ceremony only lasted for 15 minutes or so, then we were off to take photos, have cake & champagne, & meet later for dinner.
As it was fairly cool after the ceremony, I decided to keep my dress on all evening. My sweet hubbie kept his suit on as well. Our wedding party had its own section (complete with our own menu & wait staff) in the Palms restaurant for dinner. They had a live reggae band that evening & we were on the dance floor for most of the night. It was really an amazing evening.
All of our guests were still around on Sunday, which also happened to be my hubbie’s birthday. We had breakfast & dinner together & made the rounds during the day. It was definitely a relief not to have to worry about the wedding, but we still had to be social directors until everyone left.
By Tuesday, we were all alone. It was a bit sad to see everyone go, especially the folks we know we won’t see for a while, but it was also nice to have some time alone. We enjoyed the rest of our vacation immensely—relaxing on the beach, swimming, scuba diving, playing tennis, dancing, singing in the talent show & eating & drinking way too much. We were both very sad to leave on Saturday, but hopefully we’ll find a way to return to this magical place.
Now, here’s what you’ve been waiting for—the pictures!
