My new Aquamarine necklace-what are the chances this is real?

Hi All, I just got this pre-owned Aquamarine sterling silver necklace today. She tests as a gem on my cheapo diamond tester and is too light to be blue topaz, I think.

What are the chances that this is real Aquamarine?

I just ordered a Presidio gem tester, but was just wondering if anyone could give me pointers in the meanwhile.EA3C935B-35A0-4F6B-BAAB-AB6ED07832C8.jpegCCB3634C-FDC0-4686-B02D-C82F26187E5C.jpeg

Just a heads up, the Presidum gem tester is of limited use.
It can’t distinguish between natural and lab grown gemstones.
It can help you distinguish between say Topaz and Beryl (Aquamarine) but it can’t tell you if it’s lab grown topaz or lab grown aquamarine.
it is useful though for at least IDing glass or Quartz gemstones from anything else.

Thanks @Bron357 ! I have read that lab Aqua is not that common so I’m hoping that that works in my favor. Also, I ordered something called a Chelsea filter, too.

Even if its natural, it's color might be too light to be considered aquamarine. Still a pretty necklace though

@Adam95 I just got the necklace last night. Here’s a day time pic with a couple of small aquas I got at a gem show.

The necklace is definitely more green. So now I am thinking that it is more likely green beryl?

Looks like Prasiolite to me

@Rfisher I think you are right. So it’s not the deal I thought it was!

I paid $77 for it. Is that a fair price for a pre-owned Prasiolite necklace? If so, I am inclined to keep it and enjoy it for what it is.

Yes ! In anybody's money
i serously looked at prasiolite a few years back when i had descent cash to spare
But im also hopeless at getting a bargain

Its a very pretty necklase no matter what
Wear it and enjoy it

Second Prasiolite, very pretty.
$77 is a great buy, look at all those gemstones so beautifully facetted.
l‘d probably pay up to $300 for that.

Thanks @Bron357 ! This is now my first Prasiolite piece so I'm glad I got it for a decent price.

@Daisys and Diamonds you’re so sweet!

Confession...so I may be a little too obsessed with riviera necklaces. I have to share this (kooky?) combo with you.2C56459F-1015-479B-908D-257AB327015B.jpeg

Thanks @icy_jade ! You ladies are all making me feel like I got a good deal:)

Prasiolite is very often called green amethyst so you could think of it that way (it’s Amethyst month after all)! I think the color is so pretty and you got it at a great price!

Isn't anethyst heat treated to make praiserlite ?
I beleave the real stuff is very rear, my menory is foggy but is amethyst .....that's been heated by volcanic activity? - ( icould just be talking out of a whole in my head now :mrgreen2: )
