I think you should name it Sexy Hexy.
Thank you for sticking with me along the way!
Of course!! Your journey was exciting, and interesting! I’m super excited for you!!
I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished ring!!!
Ha! Interesting for sure. My poor husband. “All I ever wanted was a 2carat round diamond”- we went in on it together and made my dream come true. Three months later- “All I ever wanted was a hexagon” (I just want to find one, I won’t set it right away”- next day at jewelers.
A excited as I am, I know this will be my last for a very, very, very long time!
Are you planning to rhodium plate the white gold?
I’m going to have a diamond brush finish applied. My reason is that the satin finish is a bit too flat for my liking and with a high polish, everything is soo shiny that you can’t see the stone if it’s flush with the band!
I’m feeling better and better about this purchase. I’ve reached out too soo many people that I still have vendors getting back to me. One came back saying to custom cut a 1.5 I VS2 it would be $22,000. I’m really glad it didn’t come down to that, because I REALLY wanted this stone!
No I am asking if you’ll rhodium plate it. 18k white gold can be pretty yellow. Is that what you want? Do you want the upkeep of continually redipping? If not I might consider a different metal.
Ohh! Ok. Yes, I will rhodium plate it. I have a 2carat round brilliant in a platinum setting and I honestly like the color of 18k white gold more. The lifespan of my platinum ring is going to be 2 years with the amount I have it polished.
Then I might consider a 14k or something that looks whiter. Would reduce the amount of times you have to rhodium plate it.
Men come up with the coolest stones and coolest way of setting them! I love your stone.. it's sophisticated, and I cannot wait to see it set, the pix with your drawing looks great, I also LOVE thin bezels, congratulations and great find, if you would, please should me out when you post pictures!! of the ring @Tekate (so now I called out myself ha!) but I do not want to miss your ring.. Great stone!
Update!
Stone came back from GIA (wow they are fast!)
1.56 Hexagonal Step Cut
I vs1
VG
VG
None
I’m glad I sent it even though it didn’t really matter what it came back as as it’s about the uniqueness of the cut. I was actually surprised at the vg sym grade- I thought being a weird shape that it would be much lower.
Ring is now in production
I’m back with annoying news! My jeweler (finally) gave me a quote of 4,300$ for WHITE GOLD! I was shocked. I know it’s custom, and I’m a big fan of “you get what you pay for” but that was crazy (In my opinion). It’s literally going to be a 7.5mm white gold band.
I picked up the stone and brought it to a very high end jewelry store across the street from them. This store scares me because they have diamonds bigger than my face. I was first soo happy that they complimented the stone and told me how beautifully cut it was (especially after they searched and searched and told me they couldn’t find a hex).
Meanwhile- they gave me a quote of 2k and I couldn’t believe how much attention to detail they provided. I left the stone with them and 100% feel it will be the best craftmenship.
Soo.. now we start the process over. Had I only known weeks ago
Then I might consider a 14k or something that looks whiter. Would reduce the amount of times you have to rhodium plate it.
Love it! I’ve never seen one before! It’s gorgeous!I haven’t said anything because you all would think I was crazy!
I’ve been searching and searching for a step cut hexagon and have been turned down by many dealers. Apparently, they are very rare to find over a carat. Many dealers have told me they could have one cut for me, but at 1.5carats the price was 18k+ due to the specific shape the rough has to be ect.
Just when I was about to give up- one dealer was at a trade show and found a 1.56 H/I vs1 that was just cut. I took a risk. bought it sight unseen (except for a video) knowing it wasn’t returnable. Well, it came today and it couldn’t be more perfect! I was worried about the I color, and it is soo much whiter than I expected when I opened it!
It measures 7.5x8.5 and I think I am going to set it in a rose gold band (after sending the stone to GIA.
Ok! Here are the videos I took this afternoon!
