Niel buys another gaudy sapphire

Looks good! Cant wait to see the recut!!

What an amazing find! I did not like the setting when I saw the photo, but I looove it on your hand. Looking forward to see the recut

I think that's a gorgeous gem! Just the right saturation of yellow to make people think diamonds, but for maximum performance a recut is necessary.

I didn't really find it gaudy, though if you consider this gaudy, I wonder where can I find the original "gaudy sapphire thread :P2?

I think it’s a totally fabulous sapphire and very more fabulous setting. Totally over the top which is my favourite!
I’m sure whoever is re cutting the sapphire will do the best for keeping carat weight while correcting the obvious window.
Can’t wait to see the final result.

I just wanted to share that I found Truths little sister in my pile. A white sapphire with a similiar cut.
she wouldn’t be for sale would she? I LOVE that cut

Sorry to hijack Niels post..... She has to go in for a report first, along with her ruby and other blue sapphire sisters. She is 4.06 carats btw.

If I could put my name on the list for consideration, that would be amazing. She looks like a flowery snowflake caught in ice.

Your story about the ditzy jewelers made me laugh out loud! What fun!

You got a great find! I love the setting—the proportions are perfect with the pops of color. It’s a very happy ring with the lovely sapphire! I hope you decide to keep it all together. :appl:

I still think I’ll reset it in the long run as I already have Elsa my big halo, and I don’t have a three stone. I’m undecided if I want half moons or cushions

Love the half moon setting. Very fluid and elegant.

Yes I’m leaving that way I just worry I won’t like the sparkle as much as a nice well cut cushion. Plus I will need them very large and I anticipate high color half moons will be much more than comparable cushions.

I haven’t made up my mind tho as you can see lol

I love the ring as is and you could totally pull off wearing it, but if you will get more use out of it as a three stone, I love the look of cushion sides. Whatever you decide will be fabulous! Can’t wait to see the recut results!

I vote cushion sides! I can already imagine how drool worthy that would be.:love:

This is a beautiful find! I don't find it guady at all, and the way it sits on your finger is very pretty. Very eye catching (or fetch!) @Niel there needs to be a follow button, you always have the coolest finds!

I'm too broke at the moment, but if you decide to sell the setting say around/after the holidays...I too would like to be added to that wait list!

Great find! Now I want a gaudy sapphire! Not sure about their expertise in being jewelers if they confusing grams and carats, and looking at that thing and thinking, yeah that looks like a 2 carat sapphire...

Oscar Heyman is an old school New York jeweler. He was popular with ny society. Some of his work was fabulous, some, not so much. Quality of his stones was very inconsistent. My aunt had a princess di style OH sapphire ring (before she made it famous). Inky nasty and dark. Very disappointing. Her other jewelry is devine.

:love:Neal.. Your ring is absolutely GAUDELICIOUS!
I love the stone and I love the setting just as much.
I'm sure however it's reset it was be equally amazing.
What a awesome find!!! :appl::appl::appl:

Forgive the lighting t as raining today. An update on her window idnanyone was curious.
The dimentions are 11.5*12.8 and she’s 10.39ct. I know he did an amazing job because I know he would have rather cut it to better proportions but he told be if he did he’d loose 1/3 the ctw!

Very pretty Niel.:appl:

Yellow pops up more, must be the polish on the facets. Window is minimal, more like a culet, good job!
Gorgeous stone!

In my mind the color is then same but you’re not the only person to say that. I think that pic is misleading because the lighting is bad. But yes I agree it’s more like a culet now.

Wow! It looks amazing . The stone is gorgeous and I can’t wait to see the finished piece!

Recut turned out great! Should make for a gorgeous 3-cushion-stone ring!

Ohmygod it's too much in ALL the right ways!

Wow. I looks so awesome. And over 10 carats!!

Do a before/after collage (so I don’t have to scroll back and forth)(lazy)

I’ll try and get some better ones tomorrow morning

.

Lucky sapphire =)2

The new cut looks very elegant. I wonder what the colour might look like with some subtler gold backing...

Emerald sides?
