Not-of-this-Earth specialty-cut grudge match! (I.e. show me your LGD specialty cuts.)

Really wish Gem Concepts would start cutting LGD rough into that amazing Octavia, diagem!

He's cut at least one for a very lucky PS member. I emailed him about it previously and apparently the time/effort/preciseness involved makes it not super cost effective. Last I asked him, the minimum price for LGD octavia was going to be over 11k (again, based on work/loss of material, etc). But OMFG I WISH FOR IT ALLLLLL THE TIME!

I'm surprised Ouros or Ankit haven't copied this, or anyone else with any small degree of success. The "Octavias" I've seen have been laughable. Maybe even a reasonable facsimile is a giant project in itself.
But I keep watching.

I think the effort to get it right is just astronomical. And difficult. Most ppl can't do it, or the attempts are horrid

I think cutting consistently good step cuts is just difficult in general. The proportion of well cut step cuts on the listings are tiny compared to well cut rounds. It’s especially tough trying to find a pair of well cut matching step cuts.

Order placed! I've been dreaming of a squarish emerald like this (1.03-1.07 ratio, culet, small table) for a very long time.

Yayyyy! Excited to see it!

Which one did you buy? Can't tell from the link.

I hope it checks out in person! I would have bought it if I could find a matching one for a pair!

How about an Asscher with a 4 step crown and 5 step pavilion? I first saw it on Blue Nile for a ridiculous price, but it’s listed as available at other vendors now.

It comes up as unavailable on BN. Hmmm.

It's listed with other sellers.

$426

$465 - Adiamor (PriceScope search result)

$640

If I remember correctly it was listed for close to natural pricing on BN.

Interesting. Aren’t people always saying the profit margin on LGD is huge, way higher than EGD? And the August Vintage LGD are still priced above generic old cut LGD. So one would think that selling specialty cuts in LGD material would be a good business model. But Whiteflash has not started selling ACA in LGD, right? I wonder if people are still holding on to the idea that they should reserve their brand or one of their specialty products for earth grown diamonds only.

Maybe it really is just too much work. I have a faceted sphere and it took three tries for the cutter. Someone else tried a faceted sphere in moissanite and apparently that was a beast, too:

Guess our only recourse is for one of us to become a diamond cutter.

Not an Octavia, but it does have a tiny table

Colors are getting more interesting. Granted this one is from Etsy so no guarantee that it is not a coating. But FWIW Etsy often has tiny versions of new LGD colors a few months before they hit the major online retailers. E.g. those magenta pinks we see now. So maybe we will see new purples soon.

A hexagon.
I'm really curious about the light return. It may work.
