Not sure what to do with this "off-color" spinel...

Someone here had one kinda that color paired with sizeable diamond cadi sides for a three stone.
It was lovely.

3-stone rings are my second favorite mounting (just behind halos), so I'm definitely considering it!

Make a Coral centered version of @elle_71125 's clover with calibre cut diamonds ... thought it actually would probably look like a spectacular floral center if it had a green border too

I'm a fan of anything floral (and, of course, I adore Clover), so that is a really creative idea. Thank you!
Welcome to home'ownership'!
Oh, I feel you. Our house is @200yrs old. Needs big maintenance work. Always.

Oh how I wanted an old Victorian, my friend! Somehow I instead ended up with a house built in 2009. It possessed neither the gleam of a new house nor the charm of an old one. But it feels like home now!

Plumbing is the worst
But belated congratulations on your new home

Thank you, my friend!

Nice stone. Looks like a more intense Pad color to me if the color in the picture is correct. It is all subjective to the person's color perception. Seen quite a few Sapphires this color get the Pad moniker from major labs.

Looks perfect for a ring in white gold or platinum to offset the color.

Thank you! Yes, she could probably pass as an intense pad shade. I'm one of those annoying pad purists though!!

I have one of a similar color although much smaller. I love the color though, got it from the lovely Dana at Mastercut. In different lighting it looks more pink or sometimes more orange. I had it set in a Stuller setting, and it’s a candidate for the under $2000 thread. 07F08932-93AA-4F24-B1A0-BBB8EA8FA7AF.jpeg

What a stunning piece, Mazlou! I love how you set it simply, but with some personality on the diamond band. Would you agree that it's a sort of coral shade? I'm really enjoying it!

That's always my first instinct too, as we discussed! Yes, I do have it, and I'll take some pix. I'm reeeally awful at it, so be forewarned!!
I misunderstood your last response. When you said that you were thinking rose and white gold, I took it to mean that you didn’t want diamonds. If that’s not the case, I say go for the bling!

I have literally nothing but ideas however I can’t really tell what you’re after here
just depending on your skin tone I think surrounding it with white would help it pop off this finger.

As for what kind of halo I would first pinpoint what era you’re after and that would help narrow it down.
I’ve got a boatload of halos and they’re all unique.

Oh yes, I'd love to add a bit of bling! This is going on the list for this gem or another, thank you!!

I'm fully Italian, but really-fair skinned somehow. :shifty: So rose gold looks awful on me, but I wear it anyway! It's actually my fave. My pad sapphire will be two-tone rose and white, and also halo-d, so maybe I should do something different with this guy? I'm definitely into a more clean, contemporary look. Thank you!

Anyway, what the heck should I do with it?

I think it's lovely! Like a Rose (with an accent over the e -- as in wine -- which I can't do on my keyboard because I seem to only speak one language...)

I love non-traditionally beautiful stones. With a little confidence in your own taste and sense of style, you can save a lot of money! (This is not a backhanded compliment!)

lol And ITA!! This stone had a very attractive price point.

Thank you, my friend!

I love orange anything
Well probably not the house - i already brought 12L of yellow paint and i think im still 4L short
I should have mixed the colour myself but i was busy working so my friend did - she missed the warning under the formula where it said it will need three coats to cover and i never thought to check because that's very unusual these days
Plus it was 4 years ago
paint has really fast R&D, by now new paint might be different already

We have tinted the undercoat as yellow as we can (Gary is old school doing a primmer and an undercoat as we going back to the native timber that has lots of tannons)

Anyway im rambling where was i going with this ...
i wanted an Edwardian Californian bungalow because that's what i grew up in but Gary hates all old houses from being a builder all his working life

he grew up in a brand new mid century house
So that's what we brought

But you are right
Home is what you make of it
we have a gross old 'modern' first of the kit set kitchens from about 2000 - i hate it so much
its red and grey
If only it was orange !

And it smells bad under the bench like something is rotten but i can't see any leaks

Yes, I call it a vibrant coral. Your stone is gorgeous, and you’ve got a lot of great ideas here. I can’t wait to see what you do with it!

All I ever wanted was a butter yellow old Victorian, specifically. lol Alas, it did not happen. I want to see a photo of your house after you paint it, if you're of a mind to share!

Thank you! Yours is too!! I have so many stones I want to set, that it'll probably be a bit before I get to this one. But, yes, lots of great ideas now thanks to everyone!!

This is not one of my favourite settings, but it may help you. It's a humble malaia garnet, not in the class of your fabulous spinel, but sorta similar in colour and shape. I'm thinking that the 18K yellow gold is too strong for the more subtle pink-orange stone. Maybe, for you, a diamond halo might work better.

I'm going to have to concur with LilAlex... the gentleman who crafted that ring knows what he's doing. The bezel work is impeccable! And that stone is delicious, are you kidding? It's funny you should post this actually, because I had really been searching for a malaya garnet (not a spinel). But I just couldn't find an orangey one without significant brown. Yours is glorious. Anyway, thank you for sharing!

Hello @Starstruck8
Do you mind if i download your ring with the intention of using it for inspiration for an orange stone in the future, please

Its the first one ive seen that has taken my fancy
I lost the lab orange saphire ring i brought in memoriam of my darling Tinky (who was a pale orange kitty)
I'd probably do the diamonds as peridot becsuse that was the colour of his eyes
I do love the yellow gold

Feel free! I like your concept. Even without the sentiment, yellow gold, orange stone and green decoration would be a good combination. I like to wear an orange spessartite on one hand and a tsavorite on the other, both set in yellow gold. Putting the colours together in one ring is a great idea.

very much appreated =)2
very much a future peoject though (might have to buy a new washing machine)

I was thinking a yellow halo!

Interesting, thank you!! When I first started planning mountings for my stones, I was a little afraid of combining colors, and pretty much always designed with the one center CS and diamond accents. But thanks to everyone here, I'm definitely open to trying new and unusual color combos!

Hello all,

I recently picked up this spinel from Jim McCormick (such a great guy). It's a little over 2.50ct. and was described as having a "padparadscha" color. It is indeed a mixture of pink and orange, but it doesn't resemble a pad to me. It's not a peach either. I guess I'd call it a "coral" shade. In fact, I'm coining that trade name right now... coral spinel.
filenails.gif
It is medium in tone, not too dark like some, and the brilliance is spectacular. It does have a small feather in the top left area, as you can see, and a teeny, tiny window of just a couple of center facets, if I'm being really picky. Anyway, what the heck should I do with it? Who else has some coral spinel?! lol
