I'd take it to another jeweler for a second opinion. 1mm too big can often be work-able.

I'd want a second opinion as well.

EXACTLY, that's what I'll do, It has happened to me before, and the 2nd benchman fix it without any problem. It might take up a little more of ur time, but I am sure you will find it all worthwhile when ur stone is beautifully set, cheer up!

I am sorry this has gone from bad news to worse for you.

I do often wonder if the 'savings' of buying from these vendors are worth the losses / hassles such as shown in this thread..
Well, it only cements my decision not to buy from them further.

Send it back and insist on a full refund, use the paypal process if you must. This is what I was referring to re. accountability in your other thread. These Ebay Chinese setting vendors get all the perks of free advertising and exposure on PS, but unlike an actual PS vendor, when something goes wrong posters have either a rock or a hard place choice to resolve it.. :nono:

I think it works both ways, they do get free advertisement here, but like Cemrn did, she advertised how bad the customer service is. This type of thread can never be a good thing for these vendors. I have actually refused to buy from lan.b04 and continue to give my business to LOGR because I do hear all these nightmare stories of lan.b04 messing up customizations. LOGR has his own issues, which have been discussed here (very inconsistent diamond quality unless you upgrade, and hiddens costs, etc. . . ), but at least again, I think PS'ers are really good about bringing it up. The reason we do continue to shop with them is because at the end of the day, overall, they do offer a good value for the money, but the customer service isn't going to be as perfect as it is from a more expensive vendor. There's give and take. It's unfortunate, but at least lan.b04 and LOGR do have a no questions asked 30 day return policy.

I have only ordered one setting from LOGR. My stone fit...but because the stone was deep, it was real "iffy". My jeweler made it work. It looked pretty good, however, once I got it home, 3 of the pave diamonds fell out. I addressed this with LOGR and they certainly did give me a hassle blaming my jeweler for the diamonds falling out and not the shoddy pave work. My jeweler is quite experienced and he would have never taken on setting the stone if he felt that diamonds would fall out. A few back and forths with emails, they finally let me return it. I did not consider that a no questions asked return policy. I was glad that I at least got to return it to the USA address as the refund was quick. But because of all the hassle, I have never felt brave enough to order a setting from an of the Chinese Ebay sellers as much as I have been tempted to do so because I know many of the PSer's on here have had great luck. I hate to be pessimistic, but I worry that my luck would not be so good. That said, if you reaaaally wanted to hassle with the return process........I would let him know that you are a member of this forum. Not that you want to make threats......but I have done that in the past and boy do they seem to go above and beyond. In fact, I had a seller refund my $$ without me sending the item back. (It was only a $20 item though) Maybe lanbo will at least refund your customization fee that way you can apply it to having a local jeweler make it work as I really think it can work!

I did let him know I was a member of PS and that if he was fair in returning it I would give him that credit on the forum. I also made clear it was my right to return it per his policy. Today he sent me the address I could return it to. I am going to send it back. I really don't need to spend the money on a new stone for this setting right now. I am really hoping to get the tourmaline set. I am dying to wear it.

I am glad you stood your ground and it appears he is not giving you any grief for doing so. I hope it all goes smooth sailing with the return/shipping/and refund! Good luck!

I'm sorry CCN, I think it's a no questions asked return policy on unaltered merchandise. For example, once a jeweler tries to set your stone or change the setting, it is no longer returnable. However, I am glad you did give your negative experience here, and I feel that everyone should provide their positive as well as negative experiences with these dealers.

CCN so when your order a setting from LOGR you return it stateside so you don't have to worry about customs in China and things getting lost? Asking because I am looking at a setting from them that needs NO modifications for another project. Thanks

CCN,
I apologize. It doesn't say anything in his listings about returning altered merchandise, so if your jeweler handles it, well, perhaps it is returnable.

Yes, that is what I had done, but that was a few years ago. Hope it is still the same.

No apologies needed. In my case, the ring was not altered when I returned it as my jeweler just simply removed the stone. The prongs were not bent or mis-shaped at all.......so they got it back as good as new... well with the exception of the diamonds falling out.

I hope you have better luck with the LOGR setting if you decide to do it cemrn.

I'll quit boring you all with this but I wanted to update: I finally shared the whole saga with my husband over dinner last night. He was very upset that they asked me to declare the value as $50 to get through customs. He is very leary and does not want me to send it back. We wrote today to ask for the $25 customization fee refunded and 10% of the original setting cost since there was no miligrain and double prongs as he represented in the photo. My husband said we will just find a 10x10 mm stone to go in that setting

I don't blame your husband. I don't like the idea of declaring the value at $50. I have had so many postal mishaps that I just wouldn't want this to be another mishap. I hope they can refund what you have asked for. I think it is fair. Good luck!

I have tried asking for a partial refund before - they flat out told me no.

He asked if I would accept the $25 customization fee refunded only. I agreed to that and it was refunded within 24 hours.

Well at least that is something. I wouldn't scrap the idea of using the setting for your stone. I would see if you could find a good jeweler that could give you some ideas that he could make it work nicely with the stone.
