Now I really did it :((

Thanks Jimmianne, yeah no kidding, those holes in the head scare me to death, just the sheer thought.

You know yes you can do lower color melee but I somehow do not like them, they do not look good in lower colors. I was thinking too that you will see them from the side but I really think it is fine, I would not go lower than H-I in melee, those could match well. But you have to decide, in my opiniong the quality of the melee really does matter greatly and generally lower colored ones may not be cut so well, etc. etc., but again you are the ultimate judge. Just put melee around Joy at the jeweler's or if you have them at home and see. It will not be so apparent though because of all the metal. Only if you do a halo with almost no metal would it disturb in my opinion and like I said I used to think otherwise but learnt through projects I did. I used to advise the opposite, that lower colored centers do not look nice with higher melee but this is not necessarily true.

Callie, nice to see you here girl! I missed you a lot and was wondering what was going on with you, feel free to email too. Great to have you among us.

I am totally with you on wearing rings and what you said to Junebug. I tend to wear the same things too, one big one and one smaller one on my right hand, that is it. I may swap them at times but usually what happens is I swap it for something newer and better I got and the remainder are in the safe, never to be worn again, not a good thing. I do tend to change earrings and necklaces more often, those are not so fix. If you think about it, rings we get really attached to especially because most ladies wear and engagement ring. I do not right now but bought my own ring instead last month and that serves as my larger ring. Then it only leave the right hand for something else unless you are one that likes wearing many rings at once, I do not and many do not. Perhaps stacking with a band ok but not a ring on each finger. For this reason I feel that for me for example it would work better to get the IT ring for my right hand and be done with that, once that changes , well, that is a tough one, guess everything else will eventually either get reset or sold. Neverthless, take your time in your search Junebug, I think you somewhere may feel you may not deserve a larger purchase but this is not true but of course we all get scared of larger purchases and I often get guilt feelings about such.

Now, of course I also see women wearing like twenty rings at once, definitely not my taste and not so classy to me but again some do, I do not picture you as this type though Junebug.

Great outfits for The Wearing of the Green, Missy and Greg :appl: Very very appropriate! I'm glad you had a good time and fun visits with your budsters :sun:

Jimmianne, those are pretty settings. I see what you mean, however, between too much embellishment and not enough. Joy is the star of this production, not the fluff  I thought you might let PUFF DADDYPARROT pick out the setting, heehee, after he was examining Joy up close and personal and all, hahaha. He can point to the pic he thinks is the right one! I assume that being a BIRD, after all, PDP will choose something SHINY above all with blingie sparkles!

Ack. My garnet ring. I'm expecting my garnet to be mailed back to me today, please send me dust that it is in the identical condition that he received it. I'm a little nervous about that. The mount is coming too---the prongs are not clawed as requested. Whatever, I just want my garnet back. Andrew/GemFix was wonderful when I talked to him and he is going to have his jeweler set the stone into the mount, assuming the head is appropriate for this stone. So this garnet is going to have plenty of road and sky miles on it before this is over and done with. I feel bad, I banged on and on about this project so much. In the words of Prince Kuragin/Downton Abbey: "Nothing is more tedious than someone else's problems." You were all wonderful, I'm grateful. Hopefully I'll have a ring pic to post in the next 2 weeks.

Junebug, its the indecision. I feel you on this. It took me 5 years to decide to make the garnet a ring. 5 years. Sheesh. Keep cogitating my friend!

Hey everyone! :wavy:
Missy, I'm glad you ended up having a good time yesterday. I know what you mean about not feeling like doing something, and then ending up being glad you went - dh got home early from a trip yesterday and suggested going out to eat for St. Patrick's Day and I just didn't feel up to it - had just gotten home from my mother's, guess I was feeling tired and worn out. After a while I said yeah, why not, and ended up having a really nice time. Made me wonder why I was such a wet blanket at first lol. Thanks for the pics of the pub crawl, they were fun to see. You and Greg look amazing! My goodness, you look so young too. Love your dress  you look terrific.

I think I've narrowed down what I want a little lol. I'm leaning away from a vintage/antique ring, at least for now. None of them, except for the rubellite ring, is my size - I had a bad experience resizing a ring so I don't know if I want to go there again. And I think my preference right now is for a new ring. I really love the Maytal Hannah cushion ring that's over in SMTB right now. I think I will either go with a green cushion -shaped stone or a high color antique cushion diamond in that MH setting. Marcy's pretty emerald has swayed me. The diamond is probably out of budget, but I have 2 things going for me - I want as high a color as possible, the O-P-S range would be great, and I don't mind low clarity as long as it's eye-clean. I'm going to email Grace and see if she can help me out. Here's a pic of the cushion halo, and I like the cathedral version of Logan Sapphire's ring. Hers is by Victor Canera. I haven't ruled out a yellow diamond double halo either, though. Here's the cushion and a profile of LS's ring.

So, that's where I'm at right now lol! Thanks for listening!

Marcy, your emerald is lovely! Your ring is an excellent example of the kind of contemporary setting I love. Definitely a bit of a modern flair but not too wild and crazy lol! I might not be much help, I like all your options! But I think I'm leaning towards the EC. I guess I like the symmetry of that particular look. A row of diamonds would look great too, I like that it would be a contrasting shape and give some extra sparkle. You can't go wrong with any of the choices though. This is a fun project!

Omigosh Marcy, that cookie looks delicious! I'm jealous of that bunny :cheeky:

Ovi, they say misery loves company - if it's any consolation, I have to clean my house today too :(sad I really don't feel like it, but maybe once I start I'll keep going haha! Thanks for your thoughts on my upcoming purchase. I'm definitely taking my time and mulling over my options. You can see in my comments to missy that at least I've narrowed down my choices a bit! And I totally agree, whatever I choose has to really knock my socks off. I want to have that feeling of looking forward to putting it on when I wake up - that's how I know I'm really in love with a ring! Please keep giving me your thoughts, they are so helpful.

I'm glad Sapphie is feeling ok now, I hope she continues to do well, sweet little thing.

Jimmianne, I honestly like all your setting choices! My favs are 1 and 2. I guess the first thing you'll have to narrow down is whether you want an intricate or more simple look. It's good to consider how much color the stone has from the side, and if the contrast with the whiter melee will bother you, since it will be visible to you as you wear the ring.. I know some people have used I-J colored melee in their rings to avoid that contrast. I have an EGL J - so probably really an L or more, and the melee in my halo is G-H and I do see a contrast at times, but it doesn't bother me. But that tolerance varies for people. I really love the second setting, right down to those teardrop shapes, very lovely and a bit different. Anything you choose will look beautiful.

Calliecake, I'm so glad you love the ring you got at Christmas! That's what it's all about, so whatever I do, I'm going to make sure that whatever I decide on is something I'm truly excited about. I do tend to switch my rings out, I wear my sapphire ring and the Tiffany ring as alternate erings. I guess I just like a change once in a while. I find I'm liking the Tiffany ring much better with two bands. You can see my current ideas in my comments to missy. Thanks for listening to me ramble on about this!!!

Ok, I've procrastinated enough on the house cleaning, thanks to all for your help and advice, I'll see you all later!

Well, I'm back! :D What's a little more procrastination at this point???

Ovi, you are right, I don't wear a lot of rings at once, and I only wear rings on my left hand, so I wear my CS rings as alternate erings. And I think I've decided to devote most of my budget to one ring, you only live once hehe!

Kristie, thanks, I guess it can take a while to figure this stuff out sometimes! I keep going back and looking at the tourmaline you suggested, I really like it, but might be out of budget. I need to figure out a jeweler to go to, I don't really have one I work with regularly.

Maybe this will give you an idea of price and carat weight:

http://www.precisiongem.com/Gemstones/Gemstones/rapidcart/greentourmaline.html

You can always email Gene, he has rough waiting to be cut usually.

I would also email Barry at ACS, he has a safeload of gems and rough. I'd love to see you with an ACS green tourm. Sparkling and spring-y and fresh and VERY DURABLE, a great gem stone in terms of potential for damage.

Hi Callie,
my posts disappear all the time!
I've started copying them halfway through, then 3/4 of the way through : (
I thought it was my computer.

Junebug, good for you for procrastinating. Fun first, work second I always say. The work will always be there.

Missy, Hope you had a good day at work. I just had a nice long visit with Bea on her first thread. While I was on the mower all I thought about was settings, then came in and meditated with Bea on it. On the mower I learned that I'd forgotten Joy is the primary focus, then Bea confirmed it. I just hope "the little sister" looks as good as Bea in Simple. I kept thinking that I have to do something super duper in those few mms of metal to make "meaning", totally forgetting that all the meaning that is needed is Joy, a little sparkly center of the universe : )

I mowed another 1/4 of the field and am feeling virtuous.
Tomorrow is my daughter's birthday and her party is at the Museum of Life & Science, an hour from here through the city. ugh. But we are going to the butterfly house to see what winged things are hatching this week : )

Marcy, I love when you tell what's for dinner at your house.
It made me chuckle when you mentioned something - stew? I think? and I thought - maybe it's made from that pot roast she cooked the other night.
Little windows into other NIRDIs lives : )
That line of diamonds next to the emerald cut looks good!
The 2 EC's on the ring look good too, but the white diamonds have a nice contrast with the emerald.

Puff has become very territorial, dive-bombing me when I visit his cage room, then going into his little purple velvet tent. He has never gone into the tent before and has started hanging out in there. Maybe it's a Spring nesting Thing. Now he is sitting behind me on the couch sweet talking. Birds are a pain. I know if I turn around he will bite my nose : )

Jimmianne, PuffDaddyParrot has a purple velvet tent? That is one lucky parrot! Pics of Puff's Purple Tent please :appl:

LOL. He got that as a gift before I realized what a tyrant he is. If I can ever get within 10 feet of the tent again I'll take a picture!

Kristie, I wrote to you again but it looks like I am perhaps not getting through.:((( Hope that everything works out for you at the end.

Lol Jimmianne, Puff is very funny and one lucky parrot, just do not give her Joy to play with. I did some housework too and some garden work but a lot less than I would have liked to, I will continue on Friday before hopefully my friends arrive.

Junebug that is a very pretty ring you posted. I wholeheartedly agree with you and yes eventually pick something that makes your heart sing, I am usually not quick to make decisions either when it comes to an important and pricey purchase. I want it to be right. Perhaps that can annoy some people but I would rather think things over. A couple of times when it has happened to me that I moved on something very fast but it was like I had a visceral desire for it and then I have never been wrong. You just know it when that happens. It can of course happen several times too but surely we can make several purchases over the course of our lives.:))) Until then keep on hunting. We are overjoyed to participate in the process (pun intended).

Junebug, It sounds as though you are putting a lot of thought into your decision. You are doing everything the correct way which almost always results in a very happy outcome. You should be proud of yourself. You haven't rushed into anything. Thank you for sharing all your thoughts with us in your project. I have to laugh a little everytime you make comments about your decision process and feel like you think you are bothering us. i really don't think you realize how much we all love going on this journey with you and how happy we are that you have included us. We all love this. I'm sure Grace will be happy to help you find a beautiful OEC if you decide to go that route. She has such a good eye for finding fireballs!

Jimmianne, I about had a heart attack when I saw Puff with Joy in his beak!!! I was imagining him taking off in flight with Joy. Not a good thing to visualize! Years ago my brother had a Puff bird. My brothers wife taught the bird to say "Give me a Jimmy" He said quite a few things but that phrase was his favorite to say. Everyone loved that bird! Your daughters birthday party sounds like fun. I know everyone has different opinons about the melee matching the stone color but I have seen a few rings with a contrast and they looked very beautiful. Do you know what setting you are getting? Do you wear your rings pretty much everyday or only when you are going out? Isn't Bea stunning! She is my dream ring. I love absolutely everything about that ring!

Kristie, Was there any mention of why the setting doesn't have claw prongs? That was promised as well.... Correct? Are the prongs done later? I thought they were going to be completed before setting the stone to avoid damage being done to the stone.

Missy wanted me to tell everyone hello from her this afternoon!

No worries Missy. I'm not stalking Bea!

Claw prongs customized at the fabricator was the agreed upon head treatment. Without that, I could not have gone forward with the setting project because 1. I don't like spatulas holding my stone in the basket and 2. Big stubby prongs aren't good for garnets and really stones in general, they take much more force to set down on the stone and position.

So it was a surprise, that's for sure.

I just want my garnet back in the same condition it was sent. Once that happens, I'll breathe easier.

Thank you for checking in on the spessartite garnet ring :D

Hi NIRDIs!

Ovi, I am glad you had a day off today. It’s always a nice break to have a day off during the week. I hope you friends come this weekend. That will be a lot of fun. Thank you for the suggestions on my ring. I think I am leaning towards adding a few more diamond accents down the ring. I hope to go talk to the custom jeweler downtown this weekend. Your emerald project will be fun. Briolettes are amazing in earrings. I am glad your diamond survived hitting the stone floor. That is always scary.

Missy, you and Greg are a great looking couple. I am glad you had fun at the pub-crawl. I sent that picture of the cookie and rabbit to a friend of mine who loves my cookies and she told me to quit being mean to her. She lives about 3 blocks from me I was surprised she didn’t show up looking for cookies. How cool to see Debra Messing. She is such a pretty lady and I really like her. She reminds me of Lucille Ball she is so good with her expressions on her face and with her eyes. Will and Grace was a really funny show. I hope you had a great day at work.

Jimmianne, all of those settings are gorgeous but I really like number 2 the best. My reasoning is I like the diamond to really be the center of attention with a simple, elegant setting. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those settings. I hope you get your mowing done before it rains.

Callie, I lost a post but found it in my iPad and I must have not hit submit. I hate when I lose posts. I am glad to hear you enjoy your fun ring so much. That’s funny your husband just kind of zones out when you are talking jewelry until the price comes out. That’s about the time “what?” comes out of their mouth, huh? I am doing better every day. Thank you for asking. We are having up and down temperatures. Tuesday was freezing fog, my favorite. The weekend thankfully looks decent. I think we might get snow sometime next week. Ugh.

I started my day at the guy we buy tires from. He looked at my tire and said it was fine. That area has thick rubber and it’s not part of the tire’s structure. He commented on my several scraped up spots on my rim and I told him, yes I tend to hit curbs which is why my nickname is Curby. He really cracked up at that. I did point out to him my husband drives aggressively and doesn’t slow down for curbs and he said it was fine.

After I left the tire store I stopped at the donut shop where my dad had coffee break for decades and asked if the owner remembered him and of course she did so I bought myself a donut and asked her to keep the change to buy coffee and donuts for my dad’s buddies when they came in today. There was a group of 3 to 8 of them that met there about 8 every day.

I got to work on time in spite of my errands. I went to the remount event at the mall during lunch. I was looking for small EC diamonds for studs. They had one that was a .37 carat and the perfect size but of course no match for it. They called me later with a D/E vvs pair but it was smaller so I said no. I have a pendant from them I can trade in to help defray the cost so that is why I thought I’d look. At least I know I do like that size for studs.

Marty and I went to supper tonight and I finally had my asti spumanti. We wandered around Michaels and Marty picked up some art supplies. They had this little black velvet ring display and my ring looked fabulous on it in the store; I should have taken a picture in that great lighting. Anyway I bought it; it will be handy for taking pictures of rings.

Have a great evening and day tomorrow.
Marcy

Oops I missed a page!

Kristie, I am very anxious for you to get your garnet back too. I am so glad Andrew and Gemfix has been so helpful to you. I am sure you’ll be nervous until you get your gorgeous garnet shows up at your door.

Junebug, I am delighted to hear you enjoyed dinner out with your husband last night. That cushion ring is gorgeous. It looks like a fabulous diamond. Thank you for your ideas on my emerald ring. I will probably go talk to the jeweler Saturday about it. Marty finally rescued the rabbit from a sugar high and ate his cookie last night.

Jimmianne, if you are like me you lay away at night thinking about what to do with your jewelry project. Have fun at your daughter’s birthday party tomorrow. I am glad you had lots to think about while you were mowing. Thank you for your thoughts on my ring project. I should have held up the smaller EC diamond to me ring while I was at the mall today. Oh well, I think I am leaning towards a few diamonds down the band. Puff is going to keep you on your toes.

Hi Marcy. How sweet of you to buy coffee and donuts for your dad friends. I'm sure you made their day today. What did you decide to do with your ring? Can you please explain something to me. I would love an Emerald shape pair of earrings but how on earth would you keep them straight once that are In your ears. Won't it look strange if one earring is positioned perfectly and the other is going the opposite direction? I'm afraid it would drive me crazy. I'm also known for hitting curbs and I have wrecked a tire doing so before. Your story was real cute Curby!

Marcy, I'm going for donuts tomorrow morning, how fun your sweet gesture of remembrance of your dear father and of his friends.

At my house, Bob is the resident Curby  I've never seen him parallel park either, but that is my freaky superpower...

Thank you for the good thoughts for the return condition of my garnet. The cutters ive bought from: Barry, Andrew, Gene, and Dan are lovely, polite, customer-service oriented professionals. The jewellers? Honestly, they've been awful except for Jill Anish and Chris Williams/ModMetal (who were the epitome of professionalism). And the profit margin for the cutters is slim, not so for the jeweler.

Good morning!

Junebug, I love your new ring idea. I love Maytal Hannah's work and love her cushion halos. I think an antique diamond or gemstone would look amazing in one of her halos. And I am laughing right along with Callie because you have to realize we LOVE all this talk about bling and what to get and how to set it and when to wear it and examining all possible options and choices and stones yada yada yada. Please continue letting us be your sounding board(s) because we LOVE being involved however peripherally if just to listen and occasionally offer thoughts. We are all on the same page in that there are so many wonderful options you cannot go wrong and just take your sweet blingy time!

I'm glad your dh is home from his business trip (early too Woohoo!) and that you enjoyed going out to eat on St Patrick's Day. I totally kwym about feeling like a wet blanket sometimes and wondering why you even hesitated going. Honestly I am such a homebody (these days more than days of yore) if left to my own devices I might never leave the house again lol. But you are right. Once we go somewhere we usually end up having a lovely time.

Hope your house cleaning went well yesterday and you and Ovi are reminding me that it has been a while since I did much of any cleaning in our apt lol. Greg vacuumed Sunday (he is a sweetheart) because there was quite the bit of cat hair floating around haha. :knockout:

Kristie, you know I am sending you bucket loads of PS dust for the safe arrival of your spess and its safe setting and delivery to you so you can wear and enjoy your beautiful new ring. I am just sorry all this went down before this could happen but it will happen. And I am also angry with ykw (you know who) for being so unprofessional about the whole affair. Anyway, the main thing is you get your gorgeous spess back and then get to wear it in a beautiful ring which I have no doubt will happen. You can get those claw prongs too.

How are Finnie boy and HRH Maggie doing these last few days? Every time I take my Wobenzym I think of you and Finn lol. I just ordered and received (next day though I didn't order it for next day delivery... love amazon!) my 800 pill bottle. That should last a while. I am only taking it once a day (3 pills) for now and seeing how it goes. I hope Finn is still feeling well and not in any discomfort.

Enjoy those donuts today! What flavor are you going to get? I love donuts but cannot remember the last time I had any. Though I did have munchkins at a friend's house last year so that counts right? I LOVE munchkins because they just melt in your mouth yanno? Delicious. :lickout: Marcy, your posts always make me hungry haha even when I am responding to others just thinking about you buying those donuts are making me so hungry and I am wanting them now lol.

Ovi, I know today is a tough day for you and I am right there with you in spirit sending good vibes your way. You are going to do great today and everything is going to work out. It is understandable to be nervous but you will be fine. I know you will be careful and I am sending big hugs and good thoughts your way sweetie. If I could I would come by and visit you at work today but since I cannot know you are in my thoughts and sending big (((Hugs))).

Callie, Haha I am not worried about you stalking Bea at all. You can borrow her and wear her whenever you want to girlfriend. The only condition I have is that you come to NYC to do so. :cheeky: Our family from Chicago is visiting next weekend and we are looking forward to it. First we were going to do something in Manhattan like take a cruise around the city and then go to the 9/11 museum. But my MIL cannot walk that much (she is over 80 after all and though in good shape that is too much for her) so we decided to go to the Thomas Edison museum in West Orange. Truthfully sounds boring to me (and perhaps for my niece and nephew too) but it will be nice to see them no matter. And this way we get to drive in comfort. Easier for all involved.

I used to lose posts a lot but as I wrote before I copy and paste in an email to myself before I hit submit for my longer (which usually pertains to all my posts here in the NIRDI thread haha) posts. Having lost too many really involved posts I don't take any chances anymore. Too difficult to repeat and recreate and too time consuming lol.

Callie, have a great time today with your niece! She is so lucky to have you as her aunt and I know you guys will enjoy lunch and shopping and whatever else you decide to do. Also, what is happening with your other niece and her search for an engagement ring. Did I miss any updates?

Just to clear up something I wrote and said on the previous page. I said it all wrong and apologize for my confusing post...I don't think tan is beautiful and in fact the opposite. I was just pointing out Greg's darker skin tone compared to mine and it was my fault for not making it clear that I do NOT think being tan is good or pretty. I don't... no no no. I just thought that pic was a good example of him being "pretty" if you kwim and it just so happened he looked tan in the pic (especially compared to me). He was actually not very tan at all (and he wears sunscreen all the time now) it's just he has darker skin than me. In fact most people do lol. Just posted that pic because Jimmianne said something about him being pretty and I thought it was amusing calling him pretty and posted that pic because in that pic I think he does look "pretty". Sure he would be thrilled with me (and us lol) discussing this topic endlessly haha so OK I'm done and no more about my sweet and pretty dh. Hehe. :cheeky:

Jimmianne, yes I saw that the first day Cflutist posted and I posted my support and good thoughts and healing vibes to her. I know she has an amazing jewelry collection but I know nothing else about her at all other than that as I don't believe we ever posted to each other in any threads though I have commented on her lovely jewelry. I am continuing to send healing vibes her way and keeping her in my thoughts and prayers and it sounds as if she is very strong and doing well. What a terrifying experience and surgery and I am so glad it is benign. Such a terrifying ordeal. Really puts things in clear focus doesn't it?

Which brings me to some other upsetting news. At St Patty's Day pub crawl we found out that an ex girlfriend of the friend who runs the pub crawl every year was in a major car accident (she was texting while driving :blackeye: ;( ) almost 12 months ago! And our friend never told anyone. :nono: She could have used everyone's support and love and visits yanno? I am pissed he never told anyone but got her info from him-only her mobile # unfortunately because that's all he said he has (umm how he doesn't have her address or landline IDK) and am going to text her, get her address and send her something and see if Greg and I can visit her. She is in NJ I think.

She was paralyzed for months and thankfully is now doing much better and not paralyzed anymore. Horrible accident and she is such a lovely person. So funny and cheerful and I love her and when Greg's friend broke up with her a few years ago she still came to the pub crawls and we also saw her at parties in the summer at the beach. Devastating accident which goes to show (as if we needed any more proof  ) that life can change in an instant. Hug everyone close to you today and tell them you love them. I love you guys and sending biggest hugs your way.

Jimmianne, thank you for all those lovely comments about Bea and I can tell you Bea is looking forward to meeting Joy. They have much in common. Their 3 letter one syllable names to start. And then their chunky goodness and colorful personalities.

I know Joy will look gorgeous in whatever setting you choose but I also know she is the star of the show no matter the setting. Of course I love a classic solitaire with 6 or 8 prongs (I'm very partial to 8 prongs though both would be lovely) and they could be setting sisters if you go that way. Anyway you go she will be AMAZING because no setting will define her. She will shine through with any setting you decide is best for her. And remember the setting doesn't have to be forever if you change your mind.... :naughty:

And please tell PUFFDaddyParrot (hehe love that nickname Kristie) to get himself into that purple tent and behave and pose for us! And not to play with Joy without your permission and no more biting kissing either. Love nips only. :halo: And remember, I am only a short trip away should you want me to parrot sit. I am at your (and sweet Puff's) disposal. :appl:

Marcy, that was such a sweet thing to do buying donuts for your dad's friends. LOVE it and I know they appreciated it too. I hope you run into them so they can tell you what it meant to them. No more running into curbs however haha. Driving in Brooklyn is scary as very few people follow the "rules" or the law LOL when it comes to driving so really one must be super careful here. And there are lots of curbs here too so I feel your pain. When are you going to take care of that tire? Just a sweet reminder dear Marcy! You sure don't want Snacks getting behind that wheel till you do...

I agree about Debra Messing. She does remind me of Lucille Ball. When I was younger (and ok even now at times LOL) I used to be compared to Lucy for my hairball schemes and enthusiasm over things in general haha. I like to think I am calmer and more mature now...NOT. I loved the "I Love Lucy" show and was sad when she and Desi got divorced. I am a romantic at heart and it was just so sad when their marriage ended.

So glad you had your Asti Spumanti last night Marcy. Woohoo! I am excited at the possibility of you getting emerald cut diamond earrings. I think it is such an elegant cut and they are right there at the top of my favorite list. And I am glad you bought that ring box. I bet it is great and looking forward to seeing pics of your rings in it too! Which reminds me...Kristie, did you get Jimmianne's lovely ring box gift yet? Remember we need pics! :appl:

Have a great day everyone and I will check back later if I can. Another work day today. I cannot help but think of what Jimmianne said many pages back. Wednesday is my Monday and Thursday is my Friday. Not bad at all right? :appl: But still pretty tired even so. :snore:
Enjoy the day! :wavey:

When new NIRDI comments post to your email, do you get triplicates or more?!

I'm so proud of myself. Usually I have the fields mowed [harvested actually... lack of education about the amount of work required on farms, I bought a hayfield - it was so pretty! LOL] Anyway, it's gotten harder to find harvesters - so keeping the field nice was a worry this year. I just mowed all the fields myself! [pat on back]. No more relying on people who don't show up or who run over trees and gates : )

Missy, Happy Friday! I almost said in my Cflutist post that I had seen your post there, which the reason I mentioned it here.
I don't know her, but she has made some nice comments to some of my posts. I think. You know how confusing posts & names of posters can get. or Maybe not. lol
One question that is very serious. Does Greg have a Roomba vacuum? I love mine. I've had it for a year - that means one year of having clean floors every day while I noodling around PS.
I'm so looking forward to meeting you & the rest of us in the fall. Often my thoughts turn to logistics of travel, such as staying in Hudson with friends and taking the train down. I have to admit that NYC is very intimidating to me. I grew up in upstate NY and my mother loved to shop there, so I went with my parents, but I've only been there alone once, for a week, to look at art. It was overwhelming but so wonderful.

Curby M, I'm relieved that you had your tire checked out. It sounded dangerous!
I love that you paid forward to your Dad's friends. Really fun when they find out.
Marty is an artist? what sorts of things does he do???

Today is mixed good & not so. My daughter's party, but first the dentist. I am praying that what I'm feeling is not a tooth problem. Drat! I'm on Prolia for osteoporosis and it causes mouth sores. It's a six month shot that is just starting to peak for this dose. i have canker sores & cold sores as a result and I am praying that this side-of-the-face pain is not a tooth problem.
A little tooth fairy dust please.

Puff sends his puffiness to All from the Puffin Purple Tent Resort.

Jimmianne posting as I start my elliptical so forgive me for typos etc.

I missed that Curby aka Marcy had her tire checked so happy about that!

Now onto you....have you considered taking Lysine supplements for your canker sores? That might help. I am sending bucket loads of dust to you for a good outcome re the dentist today.

Have fun at your daughters party today!

Also woohoo on mowing your land by yourself you are awesome jimmianne! No way should NYC intimidate you in any way. And anyway we NIRDIs will be with you. Remember we are NIRDIs hear us ROAR lol.

No Roomba here though I have wanted one for a couple of years now. Greg isn't excited about it. So if I get one what model do you recommend? Costco carries a Roomba just don't know which model. If you love it I am thinking we should get it. It's just we have many barriers ( physical) that I don't think Roomba will be able to navigate I guess he/she? Does the best it can as we all do haha.

When you get multiple emails it means we (def me lol lots of sp errors, add thoughts and I never read my posts before hitting send always a recipe for many mistakes lol sorry) have edited. :read: 8)

Hugs and love to PuffDaddyParrot and to you of course. Good luck at the dentist and enjoy your daughters party!!!

ETA: I am looking forward to meeting you and all the other NIRDIs in October. :appl:

ah, my favorite subject next to diamonds : )
Roomba!
I have the 630 and just bought my daughter the 650. I did a lot of research the first time around. I don't think it's necessary to buy the more pricey models. I've been very happy with mine, just that the 630 doesn't come with amazon prime and I wanted to make things easy for Kim in case she needs to return it.
My house has single steps up and down into various rooms. With all the pet fluff here the vac cup needs to be cleaned after a room anyway, so I clean it and move it to the next level. It does not replace deep vacuuming, which I do every few weeks, it is more of a sweeper, but it keeps the fluff at bay, gets under the furniture and right up against kitchen baseboards. They drive some people crazy because they sweep in a random pattern, but that doesn't bother me. It's better than me having to drag the big vac out - - - you know - - - Martha Stewart said with pets you need to vac every day! LOL

With Amazon [and prob Costco?] there is a return window. I thought they were expensive and bought mine there to see what it was like & return if it was a gimmick, but ended up loving it. If this one fails I would def. buy again.

Roomba---I've been wanting one but Bob is pretty sure the Westies would verminize it (kill it).

MIssy, what do you think the cats would do with it?

Jimmianne, did your pets have to learn to adjust to it or was Roomba already in place when the pets came in?

Ovi, my mini jeweler rant on the previous page?

I forget you are a professional jeweler, you feel like a friend to me here, a friend with knowledge and expertise that's for sure.

I feel confident that you don't put your clients through the ridiculous stuff I've seen through my setting projects over the years.

Please know I did not mean YOU. You've been really helpful through the whole mess.

Get out there, have the best possible day you can under the circumstances okay? Hugs to you.

Hi Girls,

Missy, Please don't ever feel you need to clarify anything you post. How many days will you be spending with Greg's family next week? That is nice that they are coming for a visit. Hopefully you will have nice weather when they are in NY. I had to laugh about your comments about being a homebody. I'm the same way and if seems to get worse the older I get, especially if it's really cold outside. I usually have the best times out on the evenings I wanted to stay home.

Jimmianne, How many acres is your hay field? I can't believe you are out there plowing. I picture this beautiful woman sitting on her tractor admiring her diamonds as she rides. Where are you on your setting? Any decisions on which way you want to go with the setting. I can't wait to see the pictures of Joy in her setting on your finger. Sending you lots of dust and pray it isn't an actual tooth problem. There is also a drug the doctor can prescribe to take at the first sign of a cold sore. The medicine usually works so well you never get the actual sore. Unfortunarely it does not work on cancer sores. The roomba sounds wonderful. I'm one of the wacky people that wouldn't like it because it sweeps in a random pattern. I also know it would drive my furbaby crazy. She would bark and pounce on it the whole time it was running. I can imagine how much fun Kristie's babies would have with a Roomba! Have a wonderful time at your daughters birthday dinner today.

Kristie, You have me craving a donut now! What kind did you get? Is the garnet home yet???? You seriously have to name her. I can't wait for her to be sitting securely in her beautiful new setting (with claw prongs)! I was thinking of you last night. My dear husband stopped and bought me coffee HD on his way home!

Junebug, the picture of the ring you posted us lovely. I've read many happy customer stories from people who have worked with Maytel Hannah on Pricescope. All of them always comment on what beautiful work she does. Anything new on your search?

OV, I'm sending lots of dust your way. I hope your days turns out to be a good drama free day!

I got some donut holes and a buttermilk donut!

We should name spessie! FedEx notified me of delivery tomorrow. Hopefully spessie is undamaged and I'll just have to eat the mount.

I hope everyone has a stress free day!!!

all exciting things! Spessie  & Donuts :lickout: . It doesn't get any better than that! Do you have ideas for names that we could play off to get started???

I had a wonderful time with my daughter at the Museum of Life & Science. Her friend met us there with her two children [2 and 8 months] and they were a hoot. We got to the butterfly house just in time to see the newly hatched butterflies set free in the conservatory.

I don't know what's happening with the tooth. No abscess on the x-ray so he just sent me home with an Rx for painkillers and antibiotics should things get worse over the weekend. He said it would either get better or worse
My face hurts a lot and I feel feverish.
Enough about that, it is what it is. I'm still happy : ) just ready for some down time in front of the TV. Watching the series Life again. Love it.

More later. I'll check back to see what everyone's day was like!

Howdy NIRDI girls!!!

Callie, I am so with you. Yes she is like an annoying gnat LOL. If we are talking about the same person.

As you know I feel the same way about sun protection as you do. I was ever vigilant about protecting my face (little good it did me now right lol) with sunblock yet forgot about my hands and neck too so we shall see what happens to those in a few years haha. Oh well. Remember the more wrinkles/spots/scars one has the more it shows we have lived yanno? At least that is what I keep telling myself. War wounds. :wall: :cheeky:

Glad your sinus headache is a bit better and I am sending sinus relief dust your way sweetie!

Ovi, we are all here for you and on your team so please know that and use us for strength and support. Remember we can roar! And don't give up the good fight. It's going to all be OK. Don't let anyone intimidate or dissuade you. Biggest hugs and love.

Jimmianne, thanks for the info re the Roomba. I will check it out and talk about it again with Greg. He is like Bob in that he doesn't think it will be useful but thanks to your experience I am game to get it now. Woohoo Roomba here we come. :appl: Is that also a dance? Sounds like it should be LOL. Oh wait, that's the Rumba I think haha.

So glad you had a great time at your daughter's party. What the heck about the dentist though? I am happy it is not an abscess but shouldn't he have some idea what is going on with the tooth? Keeping my fingers/toes all crossed that it goes away and is all better so nothing further needs to be done.

OK spill, any further info/thoughts re Joy and her setting?

Kristie, woohoo! Spess delivery tomorrow! So excited and happy for you. Hmmm what can we name her. Let me think, let me think. I might need to see more pics of her to get an idea of her personality and thoughts for her name.

That donut sounded heavenly. And you know I like the donut holes. Those are munchkins right? :lickout:

Marcy, looking forward to hearing about your day and any adventures food and otherwise you might have to share.

Junebug, any new developments regarding the bling project(s)? We need our Junebug fix.. :appl:

Hi NIRDIs!

Callie, I often went down on Saturday mornings and met my dad and his buddies on their coffee break. I hope a lot of his buddies went in the day I paid for their coffee and donuts. Marty drew me up quite a few samples for my ring and I think I’ll have them mount a ½ carat diamond I have in place of the diamond accent. Very good question about keeping the emerald cut diamonds straight. I honestly hadn’t thought of that. I have a pair of EC garnets about that size I should try them one day. Unless I pull my hair back no one ever sees my earrings but I know they are there. I wish I could afford large enough diamonds to make dangle earrings but I think I’d need at least a half carat or larger to make them a decent size. We are obviously curby buddies then. I got on a cement block buried under snow and the front of the car dropped when I got off of it and bent the wheel up inside. That was the car I traded off because I felt it was snake bit. It got hit in a parking lot, sideswiped at the hospital and then the bent tire all within 6 months. Have fun shopping with your niece.

Kristie, Bob and I have an excuse for hitting curbs; we rarely have to parallel park in Wyoming. You can always find some corner spot to pull in to around here or you drive around the block until you do find one. That’s a great superpower for you to have. Your neighborhood donut place sounds quite tasty. Did you get your garnet today or will it get delivered tomorrow? Dan is great to work with. Barry is really nice too. My sister just ordered a benitoite from him and we swapped quite a few emails. He used to come up to Wyoming in the summer. Small world. Most of the jewelers I’ve worked with are kind of moody about their work like a sensitive artist. I think the Westies would take care of an auto vac pretty quickly. Hurry up FedEx tomorrow. Mmm buttermilk donut.

Missy, wouldn’t it be fabulous is we could get paid to just shop and comment on jewelry? That would be an “ideal” job for us diamond / jewelry fans. I love to talk, see and discuss jewelry. It’s right up there with astronomy and teddy bears. Sorry my posts make you hungry. You guys have some fun plans for your family visit next weekend. That is awful about that girl getting in a car accident but it’s not good she was texting. People need IGNORE my phone when you are driving. I am sure she’d appreciate hearing from you. Once golf season starts up again I will definitely make it down for donuts with the guys some Saturday. I went last summer once too and it was nice. The I Love Lucy shows are and always will be classics. They always make you laugh.

Jimmianne, you definitely deserve a pat on the back for mowing all your fields. My BIL is a wheat farmer; I have no idea how many acres he plants but his combiners are cutting for days. I’m with you; NYC seems overwhelming. Marty has been there. He has a picture of the Killer Rabbit in front of Radio City Music Hall (or whatever it’s called for sure). I bet my dad’s friends were pretty surprised. All of them are the first to pick up the tab and rarely did I get to buy when I met them on Saturday. Marty has been painting and drawing for about a year now. He is actually pretty good at it. He started with a large world map mural for his man cave. He’s painted some of our faux furbabies. He painted a picture of Pebble Beach and recently started to draw or paint something he saw on his trips. His first one was from Hong Kong of this optical shop that had a huge pair of glasses on the outside. I bet Puff loves his tent. That’s good they couldn’t see anything wrong with your tooth but then where is the pain coming from? I hope the meds help you feel better. I threw away a sonic care because it would give me shooting pain from my jaw to the top of my head. I’d go to the dentist – nothing; so I’d see my allergy doctor – nothing. About the 3rd time it happened that sucker when in the trash and I haven’t had that same problem again. I am glad you had fun at your daughter’s party.

Ovi, thinking of you and hoping your day went well.

Work was utterly mad today. I just laughed and moved along from one mess to another. If they fire me someone else will just have to clean up those messes and I’ll be hanging out in the man cave yelling “Beer” hoping Marty will come get me a new beer.

Marty made nachos for us out of leftover taco stuff for supper. I had dishes done by 6:15. Sweet. We went out and looked at some prominences and filaments on the Sun and then Marty drew me some different samples / ideas for my emerald ring. Being the engineering type he decided the most structurally sound idea is do go with one larger round diamond. The row of diamonds would work but might get knocked off easy. I don’t want to redo the entire ring because I like it the way it is. He came up with other ideas I didn’t - two baguettes or a row of small princess cuts. I have a ½ carat diamond solitaire pendant so I think I’ll just have that mounted up in the corner where the diamond accent is now. That saves money for my EC earrings.

Have a great Friday. The weekend is almost here.

Curby

Marty had the table set when I got home too. He thinks he is so funny.

Good morning girls and happy First Day of Spring!
We are expecting 2-4 inches of slushy snow here on this first lovely Spring day. Haha oh well. No matter because it is still spring and we know the beautiful weather is on its way if a bit delayed.

Marcy/Curby,Haha I love opening this thread and seeing what mischief our NIRDI furbabies have gotten themselves into.

Is that Snacks? And if you look closely it looks as if the killer bunnies are giving dear Snacks a Piranha spa treatment. Getting off Teddy's dry flaky skin making his skin it as soft as a baby bear again.

http://www.thespatraveller.com/Articles/Piranha-pedicure.htm

I like your idea about using a .5 carat diamond in the place of the diamond accent in your emerald ring. That was sweet Marty was helping you with ideas regarding the ring. And yay for saving money for emerald earrings. If you get an omega back with your emerald earrings that should prevent rotating I think. I have a few earrings with omega backs and I love them. Super comfie and the earring stays securely in place.

No need to apologize about making me hungry as I enjoy reading about your delicious meals and food adventures. Glad you enjoyed taco leftovers last night. Easy and delicious. Gazing at the stars after dinner is a lovely way to spend an evening after a stressful day at work.
Sorry work was crazy yesterday but it looks as if you have a good sense of humor and perspective about it. And YAY today is FRIDAY. IMO the best day of the workweek! :appl:

Ovi you are stronger than you know and you are doing amazingly well under the circumstances.
Hugs to you Ovi and all the rest of the NIRDI girls. I know everything will sort itself out and things will start getting better. And we are here for you.

Jimmianne, hope your tooth is not giving you any pain this morning and that you are well on your way to healing whatever it is that is going on with that tooth. Sending you tooth fairy healing dust.

Callie, yup, on the same page and 100% agree. Hope you are headache free today literally and figuratively!

Kristie, today is Spess delivery day Woohoo!!! Sending bucket loads of safe delivery dust to your sweet Garnet. :appl:

Junebug, hope all is well and I forgot to ask about your mother. You wrote you had visited her this week I think. How is she doing? Any developments with your siblings in terms of care for her? And also I think your trip is coming up very soon. I hope you are excited about it and looking forward to getting away from it all for a while. You deserve some R&R!

I hope everyone enjoyed a good evening last night with sweet dreams.
Have a good day all and I will check back later. Happy Spring Friday. :wavey:

I am sorry for the deluge of names but google is our friend and maybe you will love one of these for your dear Spessie! OFc you could always name her Spessie as that is also a good name lol. I had wanted to name our cats "Cat" or "Kitty" but Greg vetoed the literal names. I thought they were funny and even considered naming one of them dog or monkey but again I was vetoed. Hehe. I really wasn't serious about naming them Cat or Dog but I always love to tease my dh. He is so easy sometimes.
