HI:

NIRDI shout out!!!!

Around 45C since we arrived on Friday. Hot even for me! Beautiful accommodations.

Keep well folks!

cheers--Sharon

Hi NIRDI’s!

@missy you look fabulous in your dress. I love polka dots. I hope the heatwave backs off soon. I bet the ice for the kitties melts fast and you will continue to draw a crowd. Darn for nosy neighbors. Most sides of TBE are open to the world, so I doubt anyone can look in, but it would still bother me. The storm sounds awful and I hate to hear there was damage. Good deal your generator made it through the power outage. What a relief you got the AC working. I hope you dad - and mom - go okay at home. I am so glad to hear you saw all the ferals and hope Pepsi’s limp goes away.

@mrs-b your ring is lovely. What a fabulous color of blue. I hope you are feeling better. Dulles is an old airport. We flew in there once, I remember those buggies. How nice you had a view of the Potomac from your hotel. It sounds like you are seeing the sights while you are there.

@canuk-gal glad you arrived at your destination and I hope you have a lovely time. I’m with you on less tolerant of inconveniences, when we got back to the Denver airport last time, I had one of the guys on a cart drive me to the escaltors. Airports are always so big and it never fails, the bathroom are always at the other end of whatever terminal we’re in.

We had a busy weekend. Lots of errands. We did a cash offer on the house, it’s a bit on the low side but they aren’t asking for anything extra (other than if the house doesn’t pass inspection). But the refuse to let us even have four hours to moved out after closing. Marty found some place out of Colorado that will pack up our stuff the day before and then deliver it the next day. I looked them up online and they have horrible reviews. Looks like we’re closing on the 19th now. Our builder has agreed we can put stuff in the garage the day before, but if things fall through we’ll be charged $200 per day until we get our stuff out. No matter what happens, I’m sure we’ll buy the house.

Take care.
Marcy

GM girls and happy wonderful Wednesday!

WOOHOO @marcy !!! Mazel Tov!!!!! So happy for you!!!!
Thank you for all your good wishes. Pepsi seems better thank goodness but I am still keeping an eye on her. It's quite busy here in the mornings as I have posted before. Revolving cats and everyone is polite. Unless Sasha is there and then they scatter..that's why I'm pretty sure Sasha is a boy. But this AM Pepsi, Fresca and Dr Pepper ate first (all together as I have four plates in the feeder) and Shasta arrived but waited her turn patiently. Shasta is not part of their group so even though there was room for her in the feeder and an extra plate for her too she waited til they left. They ate for 20 full minutes and then finally Shasta got to eat. I have not yet seen Sasha this morning. Parents are doing as well as can be expected. It's very challenging. Thank you for caring. Big hugs

@canuk-gal OMG stay cool...that is HOT...XOXO
The head welder called yesterday and our both frames are ready so Greg is picking them up on the way to his dental appointment this morning. Hopefully it worked and we can use them if (when) this frame breaks

@Slickk woohoo summer is here and so is vacay...my niece is graduating today. I cannot believe it. Seems like yesterday we were at the hospital for her birth. Time goes so freaking fast. Have a great rest of the week and yay for well earned time off from work...XOXO

@bling_dream19 girl, get down here for ice cream..we miss you...big hugs

@Austina hope you are doing well and staying cool...big hugs

@springerspaniel happy summer and big hugs

@mrs-b thinking of you and sending lots of love and healing vibes

Hello everyone else. Yesterday we saw one of our bone specialists in the city and he is retiring at the end of this week. Imagine my surprise though he is 80 so I knew it would likely be happening soon. Just lucky we got to see him a few days before he's retiring. He did our DXAs and TBSs and we are remaining stable so yay for that. He is not recommending the physician taking over because in his words "she is too green" so we have a few other options but now we will be doing our tests on a different machine which is not recommended but we have no choice. Unfortunately many of my physicians are in their 80s so I think this is going to start happening more often. Not great but they do deserve to retire. Good for them not for us. LOL

Then we got back home (already a long day) and we went cycling. It was much warmer yesterday but we still had a lovely afternoon and it was worth it. Today is even hotter and unfortunately Greg has a dental appointment so we cannot go cycling early to beat the heat. So we shall hopefully cycle when he gets back depending as it is predicted to be near 100 today so unsure. West wind too which is a hot wind in summer so we shall see.

Leaving you with our cool treat from yesterday and a few other photos. Stay cool lovely ladies. XOXO

Our drive into the city yesterday AM

We got there 90 minutes early so went to a diner to have breakfast before our appointments

Screen Shot 2024-06-26 at 6.18.53 AM.png

And finally our well deserved sweet creamy cold treat...yummmmmmmm
Wish I could share with all my friends here

Have a wonderful Wednesday lovely ladies XOXO

ETA: Just noticed that TOMORROW is the 10th anniversary of this thread...the 10th anniversary of breaking my leg. Wow. 10 years!!! Went so fast.

Hi lovelies

I’ll catch up properly tomorrow, we got back yesterday, but the flight was very delayed.

Woohoo @marcy, what great timing! It’s all going to work out perfectly.

:wavey:

Good morning girls and happy terrific Thursday!

Hope all is going well and everyone is enjoying a terrific week

@Austina sorry your flight was delayed...one of the nuisances of flying unfortunately. Hope you are home safe and sound with happy memories of a wonderful trip

@Slickk hope all is going as smoothly as possible

@bling_dream19 girl hope you are having a wonderful summer so far

@marcy hope you are basking in the joy of almost being done with all of this and ready to reap your rewards

@canuk-gal hope your week is going well and you are getting some cycling in too

Hello everyone else.

Yesterday the wind turned east 20 minutes after we started cycling and oh what sweet relief it was. A gorgeous day to cycle once the wind decided to come from the east...cool ocean breezes made for a super comfy ride. Today is cooler (temperature wise but not real feel wise) but west wind and very humid so we shall see. The kitties all greeted me this morning and they were quite hungry. Pepsi went over to me and sniffed my hand that I held out to her. It was a thrill. I could have touched her I was so close but resisted the urge. Makes me so happy they are not afraid of me

Greg picked up the welded bike frames and is more than pleased with the job they did. We went cycling and had a great day. Hoping for more of the same today albeit more humid and more warm

Leaving you with a couple of photos from yesterday

Hello lovelies

Phew, finally got a chance to catch up. We enjoyed our trip to Washington, but it really was stinking hot. We took a boat trip up to Mount Vernon, nice breeze on the river, but soooo hot walking around. We saw the sights from the trolley bus because there was just no way we could walk around in the heat, especially Colin. Same with the trip to Arlington Cemetery, we stayed on the land train. The Holocaust memorial and museum was so well laid out, we were actually there for several hours. Last trip was to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, which I found a little disappointing, I thought there’d be more space stuff there. We saw a planetarium show which was very good. We got notified of a gate change to a different terminal on Tuesday, and when we got there, they’d changed it again to another gate and terminal!

@marcy, so glad you’ve accepted an offer, even if it wasn’t quite what you’d hoped for. I can’t believe the people expect you to be out in less than 4 hours, stinks that you’ve got to do it the day before. Hopefully the timing is all going to work out well and you’ll soon be enjoying your lovely new home. Honestly, sometimes I’m sure we walk further in the terminal than the actual flight.

Glad all the kitties are safe and sound @missy, and yikes to losing power and TG for the back up generators. I think we might be in for some outages soon, fingers crossed they won’t be for too long and the solar battery keeps us backed up.

Enjoy your hols @canuk-gal, ‘slight’ difference in the temperatures for you

Beautiful new ring @mrs-b, I hope you enjoyed your birthday despite your medical blips, and you’re feeling better now.

We had to go to an appt this afternoon, and it was 103 when we came out o_O. Just about to go in the pool, hopefully it won’t feel too much like a bath!

I can’t believe it’ll be July on Monday, this year is just whizzing by!

Stay safe and cool lovely NIRDIs :wavey:

Good morning girls and happy FriYAY!

@Austina glad you are home and enjoyed your trip despite the heat. Hope your solar holds in case of power outage. Best investment we ever made was our generator. In NYC we never lost power (except for that huge blackout in August of 2003 (?not sure of the year) ) but here we lose power with almost every storm and then some. According to Greg this will start happening everywhere but they wil be purposeful blackouts to conserve energy. Like what California is doing. No. Thank you.

@Slickk happy weekend and happy almost July 4th...cannot believe we are practically in July

@bling_dream19 hope you are staying cool and comfy

@canuk-gal hope your temps are more comfortable now

@mrs-b @MamaBee thinking of you lovely ladies and praying you are finding relief

@springerspaniel hope you are looking forward to a wonderful weekend and upcoming holiday

@marcy hoping to hear a good update soon

Hello everyone else. What a gorgeous day yesterday turned out to be thanks to a crisp east wind. Today is cooler and I see an east wind out there already woohoo. Leaving you with a few photos from yesterday and the other night. Have a FriYAY filled with yay

Happy happy birthday @Austina ♥️♥️♥️

We love you and wish you good health, joy and love all the year through and beyond

HI:

NIRDI shout out!!!!!!!!!

@missy 10 years of NIRDI. WOW! Lovely picture of your niece. My nephew is also graduating this weekend and off to University in the fall. Good times! Hope your folks are managing best they can. It is hot here also.

@Austina happy BD!!! I hear ya on the travelling. My DH has such arthritic feet which makes walking long distance difficult. He did pretty well in San Diego, at the Midway museum, but it was not easy. Very busy two days. Unfortunately. he picked up a cold (hasn't been sick in a decade) while here and has been laying low. Such a drag for him. Anyway, we have been tolerating the 45C temps but still I cannot spend more than an hour or two in the pool or heat. LOL shriveled fingers!!!

@marcy good luck on the house!!!

@Slickk enjoy your well earned/deserved summer break!

@mrs-b hope you feel better everyday. Enjoy your new treasures!

Off to the pool. PS I have been eating and drinking ay too much. Had a lovely pina colada and coconut shrimp for a snack at Tommy Bahama yesterday. LOL

cheers--Sharon

Happiest of birthdays, Austina! ox <3

Hello lovelies

Thank you for the birthday wishes, I can’t believe I’m soooo old

Needless to say, it’s HOT here, so we’ve spent the day in the pool, and our lovely neighbour joined us, so we’ve had a lovely afternoon. We’re not going out to eat, we did enough of that in DC, I need a rest from all that food!

Glad it was a bit cooler for your ride @missy, it’s usually breezey here, but that only goes so far against the heat. Yep, you’re right, we both think there will be rolling blackouts because some people can’t think of anyone else but themselves and insist on having their a/c on the max.. I can’t believe how grown up your niece is, she’s such a lovely girl.

Try and stay cool @canuk-gal, I’m sorry to hear about your DH, that sounds miserable, hopefully he’ll be feeling better before you head back home.

I hope you’re not feeling too poorly @mrs-b, are you enjoying wearing your lovely new ring?

Fingers crossed everything is progressing well with the house sale and move @marcy, it’s a stressful time for sure.

Happy weekend @Slickk and @springerspaniel.

Sending healing thoughts your way @MamaBee, I hope you’re doing as well as you can.

Good grief, how’s it the weekend again?

:wavey:

Happy birthday IMG_2330.gif @Austina I hope you have a wonderful celebratory weekend planned. Even if it’s lounging in the pool! IMG_2331.gif
I’m just beginning my recovery…I mean summer vacay!
Hi to all the lovelies!! Ten years for the NIRDIs?! Wow!! I’ve been over here for six!!! How time flies. ((Hugs)) all!

Happy birthday @Austina! I am sorry I missed it yesterday.

Love the photo of your niece @missy. I hope your dad is hanging in there.

Hi @mrs-b! Thinking about you and sending healing vibes.

I am in Baltimore, presenting at a conference, while also writing another grant proposal due Monday. This grant could potentially cover a large portion of my salary for the next 3 years, so I am being extra meticulous. I do love writing, once I get going. It really helps me organize my thoughts about the projects.

Hi to all of the NIRDIs!! I hope you are able to take some time to enjoy yourselves this weekend!

Happy birthday dear Austina! I hope you keep celebrating! You are so kind.

Hi ladies :)

So it's been a pretty rocky last 3 weeks for me - one trip to hospital 3 weeks ago, then a second emergency stay a week ago. My gut isn't emptying properly and it's causing me no end of a wide range of problems.

@Austina - I hope you had a wonderful day yesterday - 29, right? <3 Was the pool still cool-to-tepid?

@Slickk - congratulations on making it to the summer vacation!! I hope it's as restorative as you're looking for. Enjoy!

@missy - how is your dad doing? Have you been able to see him? Gorgeous photo of your niece! And yes - we're getting the same cooler weather here in Boston. What a relief!! And YAY for good bone news!

@springerspaniel - I'm thinking of you during your time in Baltimore and hoping all goes well! Good luck for lots and lots of funding!! <3

And @marcy!! WOOO HOOOO!! Congratulations on being under contract! This is WONDERFUL news! Any idea when you might be moving?

@bling_dream19 - thinking of you and hoping all is going well with your latest project! ox

Cooler weather here, which is bliss, and I just did my first walk with Tim in about a week and a half. It was delicious to be out and moving. I've been able to do some short aerobic workouts, and that's a pretty big improvement on where I was, so I'm reasonably satisfied at this point, tho still exhausted every minute of every day. It's a bit of a struggle on balance, but livable.

As you've probably seen, I've been coddling myself through all of this by doing a couple of jewelry projects - my 40th anniversary 3 stone, my gorgeous new sapphire cluster, and a pair of diamond studs that I've wanted, literally, for years. So all is well on the jewelry front. ::)

I hope all the NIRDIs are having a wonderful weekend. Love to you all!

Good morning lovely ladies. Happy big and small dog Sunday

@mrs-b GORGEOUS bling!! SWOON!!!

@springerspaniel good luck with your proposal my fingers and toes are crossed for you!!

@Slickk @bling_dream19 @canuk-gal @Austina @marcy and everyone else...hope you are all having a terrific weekend

We had Greg's family reunion last night and it was very enjoyable. Unfortunately Tommy is not eating and has not eaten since Friday night. So now we are scrambling. Sunday. No one but the animal hospital open and I do not trust them. It's very serious when an older cat stops eating and we have tried everything we know. Remeron, Cerenia, etc. To no avail. I was compartmentalizing last night hoping the meds would stimulate his appetite but no such luck. And this AM he continues to refuse all food. UGH. So worried. Sorry to ask again but if you could just think good thoughts for our Sir Tommy I would greatly appreciate it.

Leaving you with two photos from yesterday. This is all we took of us because we were busy enjoying the venue. It was like a wedding.

You two make such a lovely couple, @missy!
I hope you get some resolution with Tommy's appetite--so frustrating when there is no vet care open that you trust.

Thank you Slickk. We’re heading to great neck to see my sister’s colleague who she says is excellent. I’m worried making this horribly long trip with poor Tommy but we need to give him every chance and we know this vet will do her best for him. Thank you for caring ♥️

I’ll be thinking of you and Tommy today. I hope this vet can help him and get his appetite back! ❤️

Thank you springerspaniel ♥️ I’m so distracted with worry I completely missed your post. I appreciate your warm and loving support thank you

HI:

@missy healing vibes across the miles for Sir Thomas!!! Safe trip to the Vet!

PS you guys look wonderful.. Glad you had a great time!

Thank you Sharon ❤️
We left the veterinary clinic about an hour ago. Should be home in another two hours. The veterinarian spent an hour with Tommy. She gave him three different injections including steroid, Kenalog, B12. She did IV fluids. She ran labs and urine and the results should be in tomorrow. We don’t yet know why he’s not eating but praying the injections stimulate his appetite

Very unhappy update: Tommy is still not eating and this morning Bobby has refused all food too. Greg thinks it is a coincidence (and thankfully Oliver and Gracie are eating) but I'm worried sick. I am remaining calm but have no clue what is happening. I have tried salmon, tuna, treats, everything. The fact Bobby won't eat now is crazy worrisome because he never refuses food. Is it something environmental? Could it be a coincidence as Greg says? I don't believe in coincidences tbh. Tommy is around 17 yo but Bobby is only 15 yo. Are we going to lose them both?

HI:

@missy I'm with Greg on the coincidence. Of course you are worried and hope it is short lived. Sending eating and healing vibes across the miles.

NIRDI shout out!!!!!!!!

We've been on pins and needles here as the airline (mechanics) we flew out on has been on strike. We felt lucky getting here , and last night they settled, not a moment too soon as my son is to fly home tomorrow. Apparently his flight is a go! And the end of the week for us is safe. We have been enjoying ourselves, well not my DH so much bc of the cold he caught while here; but today he is feeling much better.

cheers--Sharon

Hello lovelies

I’m so sorry the boys aren’t eating @missy, what a worry for you. Everything crossed things change for the better soon. You look stunning in the dress, the style is so you, so glad you enjoyed the event.

Thank you @Slickk @springerspaniel and @bling_dream19 for the birthday wishes. Enjoy the summer away from your students @Slickk ! Wow @springerspaniel, everything crossed for your grant proposal. I hope you’re doing well @bling_dream19, we miss seeing your lovely bling.

We’re having a job keeping the pool cool @mrs-b - 94degs is a good temperature, anything more and it’s like a bath! Baby steps in your recovery, I know you’ll get there.

Hoping everything is going well with the house sale @marcy, I know it’s a busy time for you.

Sending warm wishes @MamaBee.

Hopefully no snafus for your trip home @canuk-gal. Happy Canada day!

Another hot weekend here, and more on the horizon. We’re thinking of getting some kind of shade structure over the loungers, so popped out this morning to a local business - we’ll see what they come up with. We spent a lot of time in the pool over the w/e, and plan on going in later. We were supposed to FT with our friends this morning, unfortunately their SIL felt extremely unwell, so they got him to hospital and it looks like he’s got meningitis :oops2:

Nothing on the cards this week, it’ll be spent trying to keep cool.

:wavey:

@missy - this is probably no consolation, but my dogs' appetites have been swinging, at best, over the last few weeks. We're putting it down to the wild changes in the weather. Ballin's allergies are through the roof, and both dogs have upset tummies. So all that to say - could it be the weather? A simple suggestion, I know, but I've seen this sort of thing many times with my dogs.

Sending you love and hugs!

@Austina - seriously - at what point do you simply throw ice cubes in the pool??!!

@canuk-gal - I really hope your DH gets a few good days before you come home. I can't tell you how many times Tim or I have been sick on vacation, and it sucks the big one! Hoping *you*, however, are enjoying many drinks by the pool!!

LOL @mrs-b yes a few by the pool and when out as well!! Yesterday I had a lemon drop and an Appletini! Can't remember when I had either of those!

@Austina thank you! It is much happier now with the flights restored!

Hi NIRDI’S!

@missy I am glad your parents are hanging in there, one day at a time. I’m glad the ferals at least don’t fight over the food. And they know they can trust you. I hope Pepsi continues to get better. That’s too bad your doctor retired. My dentist retired and my doctor was killed in an accident, I’ll be looking for new ones soon. Stay cool in that hot weather. I am sorry to hear about Tommy and Bobby, I hope they are doing better. Greg’s family reunion sounds found and you both look great. I do really like your dress.

@Austina glad you made it home okay. It sounds like you made the rounds in Washington and got to see a lot of interesting things. I hate to hear the Air and Space museum was a bit of a let down. That’s once place I’d love to see myself. And yes, airports require way too much walking. And it always seems like the bathroom are on the opposite side of the terminal we’re in. Just my luck. And happy belated birthday. We were looking at some of the shades to hang off the roof on the patio at TBE. They look pretty slick. Of course, we don’t have the heat you have.

@canuk-gal I hope your DH is feeling better. I hope you’re having a nice time and enjoying the pool.

@Slickk enjoy your summer vacation.

@springerspaniel I hope your grant proposal went well today.

@mrs-b I am so sorry to hear you’ve had a rough few weeks. Keeping you in my thoughts and hoping you feel better soon. You deserve to spoil yourself with gorgeous jewelry. I hope your dog’s appetite pick up. I bet the weather could have something to do with it.

So far, the house plans are going forward. The buyers are sending in lots of inspectors. On Friday the buyer and a whole house inspector are coming. Then Monday we’ll get inspections on the roof, electrical, heating and plumbing including a scope in the sewer. Let’s hope we pass or if they find anything, it’s minimal. I’ll be relived once we’re moved in to TBE.

Saturday was our 33rd anniversary which we started out celebrating by going to our annual eye exams. Do we know how to celebrate or what? Then we hit some hardware stores for packing supplies and the fun began. I have two rooms almost done. Marty worked on the garage and basement.

The builder is letting us move stuff in to the garage on the 18th, we’re closing on both houses on the 19th. I guess he’s considering letting us move in on the 18th, but I get his reluctance.

We’ve been having daily thunderstorms. It cools it off, but then again, I’m cold all the tine.

Take care.
