GM girls!
@junebug17 Safe travels and have a wonderful and fun trip and hope your weather cooperates. And enjoy that pool because that is exactly what we need now. A nice cool pool to relax and stay chill in and enjoy the July 4th week. Have fun Junie and (((hugs))).
@Tekate I am thrilled to pieces for you and super relieved! Finally you are out of that awful pain and on the road to recovery. (((Hugs))) and more healing vibes and good thoughts being sent your way. Hope you have a lovely weekend planned that is pain free and fun filled. Rx from this girl is for fun plus more fun super strength refills infinite.
@Austina yay so pleased you enjoyed a lovely birthday and hope you have a wonderful weekend as the birthday celebration continues into the weekend of course. Glad your weather has cooled down and it is apparently our time to be "scorchio" now because above 90 F degree temps are what are here for at least the next 6-10 days. Yup you heard that right. I'm sweating just thinking about it . I will be thinking cool thoughts all the way through as we know the mind is a powerful tool. That and central AC will help. (please keep on working central ac nectar of my life in the warm weather!).
@marcy sweet you got to meet a friend for lunch to break up your workday and sounds like a decent and lovely Thursday for you. And super yay for Mr Marty arriving home sometime last night and hope you enjoy a wonderful long weekend together. You are such a good wife. If I had gotten a text on my way back from groceries I cannot say with certainty I'd be going back out to pick up another item. Unless it was a lovely day and I was feeling good. So maybe. But maybe not. Hope you all are not disturbed by work these next few days and can just enjoy being together and away from work. Our weather has no rain in sight for the next week plus but the temps are in the 90s heat indices in the 100s. Yup not cycling friendly weather though this morning we are trying to get out before 630 AM and take at least a short bike ride. But no more 40-60 mile rides for us for the foreseeable future. That's OK. More time for indoor shopping @LLJsmom HELP!
@PierreBear our biggest challenge is that sun canopy Greg so kindly made for me on the bike. It produces drag that slows us down soooooo much. We are averaging a full 2-3 mph slower with the sun canopy than without. Even when the wind is not fully against us because unless it is head on it produces drag so if there is a component to the east or west and we are going North or South we get slowed down. The past few days have been super windy and it has been an effort to get the speed up to 7.5 mph. You can do the math and calculate how long an average 50 mile ride takes us. Yup. All freaking day.
But no complaints as we are enjoying the ride despite working very hard to make it. It is a great workout for the core as well as the legs. I highly recommend recumbent cycling. It's a workout that is comfortable too (so important to this older body now let me tell you and Greg is turning 60 this year!) compared to the upright cycling we do on our racing tandem. So we are not sacrificing fitness for comfort. On the contrary because we are in a more comfortable position we get to work out harder if that makes sense. Albeit much slower because of the sun canopy. But I need that on sunny days so it is the sacrifice we have to make. We can get our Terratrike up to 35 miles per hour going down some of the hills on our cycling route. That is thrilling.
And LOL I hear you when you cannot even get the bike going downhill due to strong head winds. Yes only a cyclist can get what that means. I feel your pain but oh what a great workout right PB? What do you have on your agenda this weekend? Hoping it is fun with dh no matter what you guys do.
Hi @sunseeker101 and thank you for chiming in and you are a sweetheart to do so just to help me. Thank you and you are always welcome to join us in our NIRDI chats. Please know you are warmly invited to hang out with us.
Thanks for all this info sunseeker. I do eat only wild fish and now only wild salmon and wild sardines. My internist is not pleased with the speed with which my mercury is going down but I am taking it one month at a time as the heavy metal specialist I saw said give it time. If it doesnt go down I guess chelating might be on the list to try next. For some reason (maybe because it is hard on the body?) Dr Globina at Mt Sinai (heavy metal specialist) does not want me to start chelating. So not sure what to do but follow her advice unless I can find another specialist who will help me safely chelate. It is not as easy as you might think finding such highly specialized doctors. I had to get my friend involved to get me an appointment with her. I am taking ALA (not directed by her) because I read that is OK to take with fish to help with the mercury and I do supplement with Selenium (200 mcg) every day. Hoping that is somewhat helpful re the mercury. I am sort of lost but doing the best I can and definitely appreciate any helpful guidance you can share. Thank you!
I am on the Anti Inflammatory Paleo diet (AIP). No gluten, no soy, no nuts, no dairy, no corn, no nightshades, no added sugar, etc. And have been for the past few months and it is super challenging. I lost weight but think I have finally gained it back. I am still under 110 lbs at 5'6" and that might be too light for my frame but doing the best I can. It isn't easy getting enough good calories on this AIP diet and I think my body needs nuts etc as I am light on protein and a few other things. It's a huge puzzle I am trying to work out with the help of doctors but so far I am not impressed with any of my physicians sadly.
My endocrinologist doesnt seem to get the connection b/w my low ferritin and my inability to get my T3 up despite all the meds. In fact I think I am pooling T3 again. Heart going a bit too fast this AM. I am taking lots of supplements (including all the methylated Bs since my body won't methylate by itself due to the mutations) in the hope to help because I also have the homozygous MTHFR C667T mutation as well as heterozygous for the VDR Taq (Tt) and MTRR A66G mutation. All gobbley gook to me a few months ago but now I am a believer given my challenge with getting rid of heavy metals and my B12 and ferritin deficiencies and now my Hcy increase. My internist seems to think my Hcy of 15.3 isn't bad. OMG. And All this due to the MTHFR and MTRR combined with environmental issues. That my internist and other doctors really don't understand as they didn't learn about this in medical school decades ago. So yeah these are true issues that mainstream medicine has not (yet) fully embraced. I have no doubt in my mind in another decade or 2 wait and see. Mainstream medicine will be getting it (hopefully) by then. It's very slow how the cogs of medicine work at times.
So in short (hahaha too late right) I am looking for an integrative MD/functional MD/naturopath MD who can help me sort through this mess (and probably you're correct that my adrenals plus many other systems are involved) and figure it out because I just don't think I can do this on my own. My brain fog is real and my powers of deduction and comprehension compromised for various reasons all involved with my multitude of health challenges.
Thanks again and if there is any more insight you can provide please do. Hope you are having a good summer and staying cool.
OK girls we are off cycling. Wish us luck as I don't want us to melt too badly. Enjoy this last Friday in June and (((hugs))).

Sorry to gatecrash this thread, ladies. I caught sight of a reference to Missy's heavy metal issue.
Missy, on the off-chance that you don't already know, nutritional supplements like chlorella and spirulina can help to sequester and effectively remove heavy metals from the body:
https://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/01/28/chlorella-for-mercury-poisoning.aspx
As well, I see a lot of the symptoms you're having, and it looks to be a general 'wiring' issue, doesn't it? A general 'dis-ease' within the whole system. Have you looked into anti-inflammatory diets, the condition of your HPA axis/adrenal response, your insulin levels as opposed to your blood-sugar levels and things like that? (Blood sugar can look great but be held in position by many times the normal level of insulin, adrenal problems can cause wiring failures galore, which can mimic thyroid symptoms).
As well, freshwater fish is lower in heavy metals and higher in the right omegas compared to farmed fish. Until recently I thought it was the other way around!
Anyway, just thought it worth a shot to mention. I hope you can solve your health issues definitively and have peace, and I believe it can be done. The best of luck.
