@MamaBee I know how you feel about the house money pit thingie. I hope your skylight repair isn't costly but I have a suspicion it will be. But you are replacing the roof anyway?

Not much else to report. I've had enough excitement in the last few days, to last me a lifetime.

@canuk-gal It sounds like you had some crazy weather! A few years ago we had a huge tree miss the master bedroom. It made me so scared to hear the loud boom during the night. I thought it was an earthquake. The whole house shook. I had another tree taken down that was near the bedroom because I was too afraid to sleep in there after that.
@junebug17 Thanks for the support about my finger swelling up. I was truly worried that it wouldn’t go back to normal. I’m wearing the band that goes with Emmy right now..I’m ready for my ring to be done. I think the size seven will be fine. Since that happened I would rather it be big than small.
I just love your new ring. Are you wearing it with a band?

@Austina I’m so happy you feel at home in your new house. You have your things so that really makes it somewhat familiar. I have an antique chest that comes with me everywhere. As soon as it moves to a new house it feels like home.

Oh no @MamaBee, what a pain finding even more problems to fix, I hope you can get them sorted easily and they don’t cost too much. Unfortunately, no news on getting the car fixed, it’s too new for them to have spare parts I have to call this week to see if they’ve had any luck, but they have said it’ll take a long time. I’m desperate to get it fixed as the constant beeping from the damaged sensor is driving me bonkers. Good luck with your braces.

@marcy the earrings are gorgeous and the perfect size for every day wear. The clarity certainly doesn’t look like it’s an issue, they look lovely.

I hope you arrived safely in Ca., @mrs-b and that the journey wasn’t too arduous.

Managed to get a few more things crossed off the list today, mirror and taps back in place, missing light hung, fan hung, stucco fixed under the door threshold, septic care demo done, door mats bought, planters and plants bought ready for planting for the front porch, parcel collected from the P.O. and the TV set up in Colin’s office.

A/C people coming tomorrow, then we’re just down to a few touch ups and everything’s done.

@MamaBee good luck with your braces. Good idea to get soft food. Marty took a while to adjust when he got his. I bet that tree falling was quite scary; I would have had the other tree removed as well. My earrings are both E Si2. I don't see any inclusions in these; their GIA report didn't have anything that concerned me. I am already contemplating what sapphire I can trade to get a heart diamond for a pendant.

@Austina what a pain to be in limbo with your car. I guess I didn't realize you can still drive it. I hope they can get parts and fix it soon. Ford had Marty's pickup close to 5 weeks when they fixed it. Sadly, we don't have car rental coverage on our insurance. Nice to get more things crossed off your list. I bet you are looking forward to the day when everything is done, fixed and in it's place..

@MamaBee good luck with your braces! I love your turtle pics. No news yet. The cardio wants Greg to return to the office for his results but it's an hour and a half away. So yeah no thank you. Greg read the staff the riot act yesterday (second time calling to get results) and they said they would talk to the cardiologist but I am not hopeful. It's crazy during Covid to make us go in for results. Greg has been there twice already. Hoping he can get the results without making the long trip.

@Austina yay for AC people coming today! You definitely need that. Glad everything is coming along well. Yesterday went smoothly for us thanks for asking minus a water main break but fortunately that was fixed within an hour of us arriving home. OMG we need water. And AC, And electricity and heat and fridges. I mean it's not as if we are living in 1622 we are living in 2022. And the time is speeding by. LOL

@canuk-gal sending warm weather vibes your way. It's going to be in the 90s here tomorrow. NO thank you. LOL. Today is rainy and I believe tomorrow is too. Oh well. We had a good cycling run and looks like the weekend is going to be nice weather wise fingers crossed.

Hi everyone else. Yesterday was a whirlwind. Periodontal appt then cycling then back home to a water main break but luckily it was fixed within the hour of us returning home. Whew. Today I have a second opinion gastro appt and really hoping he is on the ball. Coincidentally the first gastro called me yesterday as we were cycling asking how I was feeling and was I losing weight. LOL no. He is so nice but clueless I think about EPI. You can have EPI without overt symptoms from what I have been reading. Though I appreciate him not wanting to put me on meds unless I need them but he isnt suggesting other tests. Which truth be told I am not excited to do since they are all invasive but I want to get the right diagnosis. So I can get the proper treatment. Yanno? Sigh. Hoping today's gastro is smart and can help me. Fingers crossed.

Back from the gastro. I almost walked out because I had an 8am and he didn’t see me til 840! But, and this is important, he’s great. Smart , thoughtful and maybe just maybe he can help me. He wants to do an endoscopic ultrasound. To look at my pancreas, small intestine and villi. And take some tissue. That’s done in the hospital though and they don’t have any openings at this time. Hopefully in August. So I will wait to be contacted. In the meantime I have to do a shi*load of blood work. Again. But this time different tests. Some of them scary. I pray they are all negative. I don’t remember if I told you girls that I have an anti trypsin alpha gene as well as a hemochromatosis gene. Not good. Not without consequence but one day at a time. Control what I can and accept what I cannot.

Rain is supposed to stop soon and if it does we are going cycling woohoo. Enj a terrific Thursday!

Hi NIRDI's!

@missy glad to hear the appointment with the gastro is promising - having someone smart is half the battle sometimes. I hope they get you in for those tests soon. Mega dust for answers then finding the necessary treatments or results. Big hugs to you. It's such an uphill battle getting tests, diagnosis then make decisions on what to do. Great shots of the deer. Mmm ice cream. That's a good thing the water main could be fixed so quickly. Ugh that it broke.

We had a brief, but intense rain storm in the middle of the night that woke me up. Then I woke up for the day before 6. Short night. I met Marty for breakfast and for a change I had to call the dentist to get him this morning. His permanent retainer broke. His orthodontist is closed on Friday so the dentist office said they could fix it for him.

I worked about 2 hours today and need to run errands so don't know if I'll work anymore today. I finished the necessary stuff, so that is all that matters. I need new shoes and might go talk to Verizon. I did get some pictures this morning; here is one of my favorites.

We cycled before noon as the sky looked broody. Got it right for once! Had a nice ride then the clouds blew in. DH wanted to have lunch out on a patio--but I had errands already planned for the afternoon. Warm temps. I actually cleaned my DBTY necklace and Roberto Coin earrings. Improvement!!

Work wasn't horrible this week. Or at least I missed the days that were. I need to finalize my emerald ring design. I've had lots on my plate--so hardly a priority. Really I'll I want to do is go to Palm Springs, drink half of the day and sit in the intense heat. Is that too much to ask? LOL

Finalized some Father's Day plans with the DS.

TGI Friday! Where’s the week gone??

@missy, I really hate being kept waiting for appts., it’s disrespectful that they think their time is more valuable than theirs. I know sometimes it’s inevitable that the odd delay can happen, but I can’t imagine they got behind when your appt was at 8am. Thank goodness you stuck around because it does sound that at least you feel he’ll be able to help. Hope you had a good day today, and managed to get out and cycle.

Glad you haven’t been working all day today @marcy, and managed to get out of the house, even if it was just to run errands. One thing I really don’t need any more of is shoes Hope you find what you’re looking for.

Woohoo to work not being a bear this week @canuk-gal, long may it continue, and I’m sure you’ll find the perfect design for your emerald, when you have the time.

Busy couple of days here, a/c man came yesterday, and was here for 4 hours fixing and testing the system. While he was here, I potted up some hibiscus I bought in tall planters for the front porch. I put Colin’s desk together, and then we went and did the food shopping. We’ve been going on Saturday but it’s too busy. We then made a start getting some things hung on the walls. Today we got lots of pictures and mirrors up, so the house isn’t looking so bare.

Planning on having a lazy day tomorrow.

@Austina exactly. He told me when he came into the room (after I had gone twice to complain to staff) that he always runs behind. But I was supposedly the first appointment. Turns out he double books. I do find that disrespectful and greedy. But it is so hard to find smart thoughtful docs so I will manage that issue if he can truly figure out what is going on with me. Sounds like you have had a very productive week at the house and hopefully your AC is up and working. And I hope you enjoy a very lazy peaceful relaxing day today. You deserve it!

@junebug17 I am glad you got your hair cut. I desperately need a hair cut as the last one i had was August 2021. I am afraid to go though as I still havent gotten my second booster. Hi everyone else. We had a good friYAY. No cycling it was too hot but we ran much needed errands and I did lab work first thing yesterday morning at Lab Corp. They are super efficient and now I just hope they don't supply shortages because some of my friends have waited many weeks for results at the labs due to supply shortages. They freeze the blood and make it work somehow with the huge delays. My gastro ordered some weird tests and it took them lots of time to figure it out so hoping this doesn't get messed up. We are heading out cycling this morning though it is very very windy. @marcy I feel we are in Wyoming with these winds haha.

Because we haven't had enough rain and thunderstorms...it is storming now. Anyway, we got the best of the day out cycling in sunny and warm temps. Rode to the bike shop and I bought a nifty Bontrager jersey. I normally don't wear the traditional jerseys cuz I don't like the front zipper, but I liked the nice mint color. LOL. They had another brand that was a nice wool blend (like my Specialized tees) but it was 200 bucks so NO. Apparently I am a cheapskate.

Then we rode to a patio and had brunch. I had a mimosa which prolly wasn't a good idea as I could have ended up like President Biden.

@missy nice to get out for a ride even if you have Wyoming wind - let's hope it wasn't tandem bike tipping wind! I think good doctors are hard to find so I guess it's worth the inconvenience of waiting for an appointment. I had a dermatologist who scheduled appointments for only 15 minutes each, that didn't work out well but he continued to do that. Sorry you aren't getting much sleep. I had another short night and I am both cold and tired right now. Phooey

Thank you all for the compliments on my earrings. I am enjoying them. I did get the ends hid on the afghan this morning and got it on the couch. Next I'll start on one for the loveseat. We picked up some ivory drapes today too for the living room. They are pretty wrinkled so I'll see if a dry cleaners can press them for me. Ironing is not in my skill set.

I worked until after 5 yesterday then decided to finish that afghan. Marty hung up his signs at the gym this morning. I did a batch of laundry and got most of my July article ready for the newspaper. We went shopping and ate lunch while we were out.

Tomorrow is chores day for me. Phooey.

@canuk-gal glad you got cycling in between the storms and woohoo for scoring a nice cycling jersey. I hear you because I don't generally love the fit of cycling jerseys (too tight) but do wear them sometimes. And sometimes I just wear my active SPF clothing from Solumbra and Coolibar. That works too. Mint is a sweet color and I am with you. 200$ I wouldn't spend on cycling clothes either. But I am frugal that way and in other ways not so much. LOL. @missy thanks, I am glad to get the afghan done. It was getting to be a lap full to work on. Archie is a cutie and glad you got to go for a ride. Silly wind, It's actually calm here today but severe thunderstorms are in the forecast. Glad your dad liked his gift card. I left us a not to call Marty's dad, I don't want to forget. Did you get a good night's sleep? I did not sleep well, we have a neighbor that isn't home on weekends and they have a doggie door so the dog goes out in the back yard and barks all day, all night. They are not taking care of their dog and are pretty inconsiderate of their neighbors.

Since we were up early we went out for breakfast. I am working on laundry, picked off dead flowers and took a few photos. I thought this was interesting, one of the flowers is 3 in 1, I had noticed the buds were right on top of each other but didn't think much of it. Kind of interesting. I need to run a few errands as well. Hobby Lobby is closed today or I'd go get yarn for a mini me afghan.

Today we are cycling again and tomorrow we have two doctor appointments in the city so probably no cycling tomorrow and the rest of the week looks very unsettled weather wise. Thunderstorms predicted every day starting tomorrow. I am nervous about tomorrow but hoping it goes smoothly and I don't get bad news. Fingers and toes crossed it goes well.

How did the wedding go @junebug17 ? Everything the happy couple were hoping for?

I emptied the last of the boxes in the house on Saturday and we finished putting up all the pictures and mirrors. Yesterday we went out for lunch with Adam and Kim, to a local brewery, for Father’s Day. Then we went a bought a few small things we needed for the house. We’ve spent all morning in the garage, breaking down boxes, and tidying up. We’ve got a collection tomorrow, but still got lots more to get rid of. Of course, all our new garden furniture is also in there, which is taking up a LOT of room, but no point unpacking it till the pool’s done.

I can’t remember if I mentioned that I set up Robovac last week, and it’s great to know that it’s been doing it’s job while we were outside

Going to have lunch then veg all afternoon.

Firstly - peanut butter swirl and cherry bourbon??? - to the power of a zillion!!

We just got back from wine tasting and it was faboosh! We brought back some spectacular wines, after tasting dozens. We ate out, had ice cream, watched movies, drank, drank and drank! Here's a photo from the Sunstone Winery - which is where the new sci-fi series, Pickard, films the scenes at his home (he is supposed to own and run a vineyard). it's glorious.



And here's one of me and David that Robert took. The weather was 73, breezy, and clear as a bell!



Robert and David are winery members of a bunch of clubs - both up in Solvang (not far north of Santa Barbara) and in Temecula (about 1.5 hours south by car from Pasadena). They go tasting about every 6 weeks, and so I just tag along every so often - which worked out perfectly this weekend! Today is a public holiday, so it coincided perfectly with my birthday. Tonight we're going to see Top Gun - which we were supposed to see on my birthday in 2020, then again in 2021, and then now in 2022. But I wasn't taking my chances, so I went and saw it with Tim in Boston the day it come out! It's a terrific movie, tho, and totally worth a second outing. We'll have cake and champagne before we go, then head out after that.

All in all, a lovely day. Tim and I had our own celebration for my birthday the weekend before I left, but I still wish he was here. Best gift ever. <3

Sounds like you had a fabulous birthday @mrs-b.

Another really productive day here, we got out in the garage again, and set about sorting out more boxes. We got the new patio table and chairs set up, we wanted to check nothing was damaged, and while we were outside, the UPS man called with our floor lamps and asked if he could have the boxes! RESULT, stops us having to pay to have them taken away, or going to the recycling centre

Got the floor lamps set up, and the footstool for the games room was delivered. Then I set up the printer and got Colin’s computer linked up, so we’re all ready now if we need to print anything

I hope all the lovely NIRDIs are having a good day, don’t work too hard

Hi everyone else. We had a busy but successful day yesterday. We headed into the city and we both saw my rheumatologist who repeated a few tests on me and agrees I should hold off on the heavy duty meds. Relief. And we wait for some blood work to come back that he did on Greg. Most of it came back already within an hour of the appointment as NYU does their own labs on the premises. Wow so fast. But the important ones have not yet come back. Fingers crossed the results are OK.

Today (tomorrow...and maybe the next day) looks like rain so it is probably errands for us. We shall see.

@missy your wig looks fabulous, I’d never know it wasn’t your own hair. I really like it on you. I so agree with you about our neighbors, they obviously don’t pay attention to their dog and that dog does bark all day; it has to wear it out barking that much. It woke me up again today. Glad you are continuing to add miles on your bike plus enjoying delicious ice cream. Thank you for the kind words about my afghan. I like it on the couch. Marty is hot all the time; if he uses it once a year I’d be surprised. Great shot of the city and cute ferals sunning on the deck. They enjoy the view too. Crossing my fingers and toes your test results are good.

@Austina that is fabulous the last of the boxes is unpacked. When will the pool be done so you can get your patio furniture out? I totally remember the job of breaking down boxes after moving. Such fun - plus remember I am dangerous with knives and scissors. Maybe now that I have muscles, I could break them up without dangerous tools. I did get the yarn for my mini me and started on it. That’s awesome the UPS guy wanted some boxes. I love when some neighbors post on FaceBook they want large boxes - I’m like ‘pick me”. We get way too much such shipped to us - including things for the gym.

@mrs-b Happy Birthday again and it looks like you have a fabulous time wine tasting. That would be an ideal birthday for me too. I love the picture of you guys; you both look so happy - or is that the wine? Ha Ha.

Well, there is NO way I can say I’m retired anymore. I am adding more tasks with my job. I’m already at the same number of hours I worked last month. I am adding proofreading to my editing job. Honestly, that is right up my alley though. I’m not a journalist though but have found Word is pretty good at pointing our grammatical errors. Ha! Today I worked on 3 articles all dealing with a star or constellation so it wasn’t like working. I have to look up the “details” to confirm they are correct; but the info doesn’t require research. I know that well enough from teaching for so long.

I picked up lunch from Culver’s today since the cleaning lady was here and I try not to mess up my clean kitchen for at least a day.

I got my case for my new iPhone so I have been setting it up and messing with it a bit. Our new plans with Verizon included free Disney+ (we had it already), Hulu and ESPN+. I doubt I’ll ever watch ESPN+ since I had to watch more sports with my last job that I ever wanted to do. But I was excited to see Hulu has I Love Lucy - that would be perfect to watch while I’m knitting. Our wireless phone plan was so old they kept trying to get us to upgrade to one of their unlimited plans. Once I got the notice our plan was going to cost more way more including how much we would have to pay for going over our usage limit, I decided to switch plans.

I got a few more flower photos with my camera today. It’s kind of cloudy too so maybe I can go out and chase a sunset tonight.

TG Greg isn't for watching sports on TV. I find that super boring. Smart to switch plans to make it worthwhile for you. Thank you for your kind words about my hair.
