I''m doing a little jewelry browsing day trip to Manhattan this Saturday. The tentative plan is to meet up with fountainfairfax and anyone else who would be interested. I''m leaning more towards checking out vintage and antique jewelry and high end diamond rings for fun.

But I''m open for suggestions!

Please post or PM me or fountainfairfax if you would like to meet up.

Oh what great fun!!! Bet you guys will have a wonderful time. Wish I could tag along

Actually, I''m hoping to get a little more inspiration for a custom ring that I would like to have made in the next year or two. I have a general idea of what I want, but I''m still looking for that extra little detail to complete my concept!

Where are you planning on going?

If it''s nice out, I''m going to try to get out of the city. But I have no set plans so there''s a chance I''m in!

I''m not sure exactly. Fountainfairfax is putting together a list. I know that Lunch is defiitely in the plan! Hope you can come

That sounds like fun. You''ll have to report back if there are any must see store for vintage jewelry so next time I''m in the city I can stop by them!!! Have fun!!!

Darn you east-coasters!!! Always having get togethers!!

Well, the midwestern gal wishes she could go, but I don''t think DH would let me go to one of the most expensive cities in the country to look at diamonds

He would be scared, and rightly so!!!

Sure you don't want to go August 6 instead?
3.gif
I'll be out there for the weekend.

Can I come?

Oooooo...I wish I could come!

You girls must return with a VERY DETAILED account of your adventures!

Blue824- Sorry, not a good weekend for me

You should organize something for your weekend, though! Maybe a lunch or dinner thing?

Ooh too bad

To be honest, when I''m out there I think my schedule is totally booked. Scary huh? Especially since I didn''t have any hand in then planning. I think I have maybe a couple hours on Friday to get in the two museums I want to go to and then my friends have be booked with reservations and shows. I think I can manage to have fun even if it doesnt involve a diamond
2.gif

Have so much fun looking at jewelry! And tell us about your finds!!!

Oh, that does sound fun!!! Do you know what shows you are going to see?

For vintage jewelry stores, I recommend A La Vielle Russie at 59th & 5th and Kentshire, which is on the first floor of Berdorf''s. Fred Leighton is at 66th & Madison.

I am so excited I am boucing off the walls!

Buena,

I *believe* we are seeing Putman County Spelling Bee and Light on the Piazza, I think one other? Maybe not. Before I start running around like a chicken with out its head, just want to take a min to say thank you again for your Barcelona help! We''re going this weekend, well, leaving tomorrow early afternoon and I''m not packed and have nothing done! But it should be fun...maybe not as much fun as spending a weekend looking at diamonds though

Hope you all have a fun day, I''m jealous!

I think I am getting one of those rings as my e-ring!

B/f and I went to a jewelry store and did some "serious" ring shopping. These were the decisions he made: 1. He liked the diamond I inherited, but would rather buy my e-ring 100% himself, instead of using that diamond and him just buying a setting. 2. The settings I posted were the ones that I tried on and we both liked. So I am pretty sure he has either decided to buy one of those settings or something similar.

That means I will be completely in charge of picking out/designing a setting for the OEC diamond that I inherited. It will be a Right Hand Ring. I am very excited about it!!!

BTW, b/f will not tell me if he has found the diamond yet that he is going to purchase, and he won''t tell me if he purchased a setting yet either. So I will be very surprised when it actually happens! I really have no clue which is really cool but also really nerve wracking!

I might be able to come meet up with you gals...my fiance has a deposit at an antique jeweler in the city from the first e-ring he picked out. I have never been there, but they might have some great eye candy. It''s called Doyle & Doyle, anyone been there?

Hey, Madame Bijoux, I was going to add Vielle Russe and then I saw your post. Aren''t they near Cipriani''s and the Sherry Netherland? They have such great stuff there, and I am sure though they are pricey (think of the rent!!!) they have amazing stuff. Another very fun thing to do is go on line and check out the Sotheby''s and Christie''s fine jewelry auctions. They are held at least a couple times a year, and if you are in Ny right before, they have preview times. If you know what you are doing (meaning quality and grade etc) you can sometimes get something incredible and unusual. When I was looking for my ugrade, I went on line. There were some incredible things (way out of my range) but the amazing thing was there was a huge group of items that all apparently belonged to one woman...I am talking huge Mikimoto pearls, diamond solitare rings of double digit carats, rare colored stones...I would love to know who it was! For drool factor alone it is unreal...I have always wanted to get into the city to browse through the treasures!

Hi, Diamond Fan! You are right - Vielle Russie is on the corner of 59th & 5th, next door to Cipriani''s & the Sherry Netherland. The last big auction house exhibit I saw was at Christie''s when Liz Taylor sold a few of her things.

Too bad I''m not in NYC, or I''d so be there. I know you girls are going to have so much fun!!!

For those of you who are meeting up in NY (wish I could join but I will be out of town this weekend), just be forewarned that many of the stores/booths on 47th Street are closed on Saturdays. You should definitely still walk on the street because there are some that are open but don't expect it to be too crowded. Also, if you are in that area and want to check out designer rings, Michael C. Fina (45th & 5th) has a big assortment of JB Star, Michael B, Daniel K, etc. I wouldn't buy from there but they're pretty nice about letting you try things on. Don't forget to check out the usual spots for high priced bling: Tiffany, Cartier, Harry Winston, Graff and the new Debeers (haven't stepped foot in there yet!) Have a wonderful time--sorry I won't be there.
8.gif

I am sorry you wont be there too...there is always next time! I will bring my camera and if they let me I will take a ton of pics and post them here.

Well it looks like the plan for Saturday will mainly consist of a lot of 5th Ave dreaming, a quick walk through the district to see if anyone is around and if we have time we''ll head south- Stardust Antiques at Gramercy Park, Gallery Eclectic, Doyle & Doyle, Soho Gem are all contenders right now,

If anyone has additional ideas, please post ''em!!!! If anyone would like to join us, please pm me and I''ll let you know where & when we plan to meet
2.gif

and also important- any suggestions for a place for lunch? I think we''ll still be on 5th ave north of 47th around lunch time......

I have an awesome place to recommend for lunch. It''s just off 5th, called Acqua Pazza and is at 36 West 52nd street. It''s right across the street from The 21 Club. It''s my favorite place for lunch. Their phone number is 212-582-6900. The NBA store is on the corner of 5th Ave and it''s down the street from there. I highly recommend the chicken with sundried tomatoes and artichokes in a yummy white wine sauce, delish!!! HTH!!!

Thanks, Kaleigh!!!! Acqua Pazza sounds wonderful and is in the perfect location!!!!! Yummy!

(let''s hope I can keep Buena & Matatora from spending all their $$$, or else we''ll be eating "dirty water dogs" from a cart

Thanks everyone for the wonderful suggestions! So many great places to browse in NYC, that I''ll probably make another trip up in the near future.
