You''ll love it FF. I really love it because the food is so good and you can''t beat the location.

Last Call...anyone else? If not hopefully we will see you in DC!

Yesterday was a fabulous day for jewelry browsing!!! It was so much fun to meet Fountainfairfax Matatora!

CAN YOU GUESS WHICH STORE WE MADE A SPECIAL POINT TO GO CHECK OUT???

Where did you have lunch, Buena??? Ok Tiffany''s???

We wanted to try Acqua Pazza, but they seemed to be booked with reservations until the evening (too late for me because I had to catch the bus). We happened upon this place:
Rue 57
I loved it!! They serve brunch on the weekends until 3:30pm. Also, the bathroom attendant gave out lollipops

Here it is! This is the store that I was the most curious about and we made sure we stopped in:

Oh that''s too bad about Aqua Pazza. What did you think of the Debeers store???

I thought it was a very unique experience! They had a few specialty pieces on display (very securely) that I could not imagine someone wearing unless they were going to The Oscars. Even at an event like that, though, the wearer would noticeably stand out because of all of the bling. They would be dripping with diamonds!

They had some pieces that were inspired by fluidity, so that metal and diamonds could have some movement when you wore them. I tried on one the rings from this collection. It would be very distracting because of how fun it was to play with!

I tried on a 10 carat marquise solitaire ring that was D color and I think either IF or VS1. Wow, it was huge!! I had wanted to try on the large Asscher (not sure about the specs, but it had to have been at least 9 or 10 carats I would think), but I was told that ring cost over 1 million and that I would have to go into a room with a security person to try it on. And something esle that I can''t remember? Maybe leave my license with them?? Anyway, it was basically a long winded "No".

The DeBeers little jewelry box may soon become as well known as the little blue Tiffany''s box!

Did you guys find any places that had great vintage jewelry??? Any stores that you would recommend visiting??? Details please!!!

Oh, that''s a shame! I am sure there will be a next time. There are just so many places in NYC!!

I'm with Kaleigh......MORE DETAILS!!!! I want to hear about every teensy or not so teensy bauble you saw!

What about vintage stuff? (I probably would have gone to Fred Leighton. Their Las Vegas store knocked me out....)

TELL ALL! (please)

Not so much. We checked out one or two places that (I think) were on Fifth Ave. None that were recommended. We were having such a spectacular time along Fifth Ave areas that we ran out of time for other stores.

Fountainfairfax or Matatora could answer this better. They were keeping better track than I was about where we were going.

We also went to the Jewelry District. There were a few stores open.

But I definitely plan on going up again sometime, so I''m sure I''ll get to more vintage stores then.

My favorite that we went into was the Michael C. Fina store. That had an amazing selection and the staff was so helpful. I would highly recommend stopping into this store!!!

I hope there is a next time!!! We went to Michael C. Fina and the guy that helped us knew nothing about diamonds, but they did have some gorgeous stuff! It was fun to see the jewelry in person that I had been oogling online Michael B & JB Star especially!

This bejeweled store window display was amazing:

I really liked the guy who helped us at Michael C. Fina. He seemed to know what he was talking about. Maybe you got a newbie when you went?

No, we missed Fred Layton, but I NEED to check it out sometime! I''ll be in Las Vegas later this year, so I''ll have to make a point to stop in there.

Let''s see...we saw a HOF which was stunning! Lots of emeralds, sapphires, and other gemstones. Blue, pink, and loads of yellow diamonds! Fancy yellow seemed to be the most popular colored diamond. I was really curious to see what a black diamond looks like but I could not find any.

Matatora and Fountainfairfax can fill you in with more details. I was mostly absorbing the sparkly shiney atmosphere. They tried on some rings that could be similar to what their e-rings will be!!!

We went to Van Clef and Arpels, Tiffanys, DeBeers, Cartier (huge disapointment their Short Hills store is much nicer), Fotunoff, and Micheal C, FIna on 5th. We went into on Diamond Market on 47th but it was not a good place to be just then.
I have to I really enjoyed each store for diffrent reasons.

But I saw a fantastic ring at Micheal C Fina an then lost the card with the info before I even got home.

I am hoping to be able to figure ti out though.
We also went by the Algonquin Hotel which was HUGE for me becuase I am a die hard Dorothy Parker fan!

I wish we could have taken a photo of that ring with the matching band on your finger. They were

STUNNING

on you!!!

We had such a BLAST!!!! It''s always fun to look at pretty sparklies but it''s so much better when the company is great- of course I felt like I bonded with Buena & Matatora through PS already, but once we got to meet in person it was like we were all old friends- such fun!!!!!

I don''t remember why we didn''t go in Fred Leighton, we were looking in the windows but saw Van Cleef and made a bee-line. At Van Cleef I tried on a fat emerald cut with small halo, 2ct center I think, for $72,000

It was very lovely and I thought we were treated very well there.

How funny that I really don''t remember anything from Cartier....

I got the "talk-down" at Tiffany & Co- first the 3rd degree- what do you intend this ring for (I was trying on the Lucida Bezel because I will have something in the works with Michael Devlin very soon and wanted to see the bezel ring) is this for yourself, blah, blah, blah. Then the "talk"- you know the Tiffany Lucida is THE BEST diamond you can get- when I explained that I was having a custom setting designed for my omc the conversation turned a little colder

but it was THE ring I wanted to try on, I was actually suprised how petite the x on the side was, although the thin bezel was exactly what I want. I was very happy to have the chance to it on! and we tried on some nice eternity bands, all the while telling each other "we have got to get to Facets real soon!" and in all fairness to Tiffany & Co the salesperson by the eternity bands was a total sweetheart & very accomodating (my 7.5 ring size is now up to an 8

)

I really liked DeBeers, in spite of myself. Some of the stones looked kind of warm to me- Matatora has a great eye for color, she picked out the L right away. The "movement" ring with dangles of diamonds that Buena tried on was really cool. I saw a lot of bezel set rings that I really liked, too. Matatora tried on some e-rings & bands to get an idea of what width bands are right on her- 2mm seems to be perfect on her hand and both the the plain platinum e-ring mounting and the shared prong e-rings looked great. They had some lower head options that she really liked. And how dare they not let Buena try on the rings over $1 million

Thank goodness I only had one margarita at lunch, otherwise I would''ve whipped out my i.d. and said lets go!!!!

Fortunoff''s was a big disappointment. I''m used to our big store here on the island and this one was like a smaller version of a Long Island Macy''s....oh, well.....

Jeweler''s on 5th had a few booths open- crazy!!! hot, smokey & crowded. too damn pushy to enjoy browsing- the dealers never shut up!

I was very pleasantly suprised by Michael C Fina''s- not only did we get to see so many of the designers we all know (it was like a bridal magazine come to life) we were the only people in the e-ring section so we had the place to ourselves. When it came to Matatora trying on rings there was no pressure and she found a setting she really liked (single shared prongs on the band that were elegant & unique.) It was actually my favorite stop because we could take our time & talk.

So we also had a great lunch & a lot of fun. Buena''s rhr is a long-term project, so vintage shopping will have to be next and until Matatora finds the perfect setting the search will continue.....

Buena, were you able to find any pieces to inspire you for your ring?

It's ok

I'm sure there will be another trip and I love the antiquey thing! It's very possible that I wrote the PM and didn't send it because I usually have two PS windows open at a time because of clicking on links in threads!

Not so much. I am looking for a very narrow range of ideas. I have a pretty good idea of what I want and I''m just looking for one last little detail or transition from band to basket, or something different to do with the band. I figured the more rings I see, the better! We really did not go into too many stores that would be considered good places for antique rings. But it was so worth it!! I tried on some absolutely
30.gif
FABULOUS rings that I could not have back home in my area!
