Opinions on this emerald ring please.

@MissyBeaucoup the emerald is beautiful and great color!

And emerald to me is all about the color, just like what you chose.

I was going to have my stone set into a JB Star mounting that I love, but everyone keeps referencing DK, and now you too so I think I need to do more research on him.

@Deathspi I think you have seen some emerald colors to help you decide. You can see in all these photos, it is not about clarity or the perfect cut, the color is the higher priority for many of us (of course you can’t get a very included stone).

Good luck and please keep us posted!

Thank you. I’m going to have a talk with the vendor of the second ring I posted, and I’m going to go with my heart. I think I was just hoping that I’d get that first ring home and it would suddenly brighten up in daylight, but I really can’t see that happening. It’s the bright greens that I love, so I’m going with that, and won’t worry too much about the clarity. It’s all very obvious stuff, but when I’m buying for myself and spend so much time overthinking things, I tend to get overwhelmed by the choices and forget what I love.
Thanks for getting me back on track everyone. =)2

Deathspi, I hope when you have your emerald in hand it’s exactly what your heart wants! Please keep us updated with pictures. :wavey:

Thanks for your kind words, Miki Moto! I would love to see the type of setting you’re considering. I hear people say that emeralds and tourmalines and the like need somewhat protective settings, and I am not sure how to accomplish that other than with a halo perhaps. DK’s bench does some beautiful engraving. I’m going to check out JB Star. Thanks again!

The first two are by JB Star and in the first photo, the setting I like is the one with the emerald. I love JB Star settings as they are bold, some would think they are on the edge of tacky but I like it (it’s ok if you tell me they are tacky. =)2).

I thought for sure I wanted the setting in the first photo, but when I saw a ring made in this setting, it seemed a bit small for my liking. To be fair though, the ring I saw had a smaller stone so the whole setting was smaller. My first choice is now the second photo, except of course I would have JB Star use my emerald to create the ring. The third photo is a possibility if I go simple. Do you see the diamonds framing the emerald, and notice the angle of the diamonds and the corner stones. I love the simplicity of the baguettes and I just love that elegance.

Anyway, those are the settings I am thinking. I have not worked with DK at all and I have seen some of his e-rings but he doesn’t seem to do a lot of colored gemstones. That’s why I was happy to hear you mention him for your emerald.

And yes, for an emerald, I would suggest framing the emerald. Emeralds are relatively hard but they can chip. I am really rough on my jewelry (I have a chip on a sapphire), so for me, I would definitely have a frame on the emerald. I would love to see some of your ideas as I am still undecided on mine.

@Deathspi I hope you don’t mind a second topic here but this might also give you some ideas.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, Miki Moto! JB Star has some beautiful designs, especially the bold ones. I really like the last ring with the halo of baguettes. It suits the emerald really well and brings out the shape. The baguettes are more unexpected. One of the things I wonder about is putting sparkly diamonds with emerald, when emerald it not as sparkly, not like sapphire. The baguettes seem to work really well, and so does Bron’s ring with the huge pear emerald. Mine is just a little bit of wonky shaped oval, and here are some of my inspiration pics from DK. Some of them might not be protective enough. Thanks for your advice on that.

Deathspi, I hope you see something you like too!

I don’t mind if you discuss settings at att, but please post if you find any nice emerald rings on your travels! ::)

I really like the ring, very pretty, the mount is great quality and the diamonds nice too. If the seller has a good return policy then you can always scope it when you get it to look for indications of treatment other than oil! I agree though with the colour, wrong tone to me for Columbian (says she from her armchair looking a photo!) though I think you need to see it in person, obviously. Colour too is subjective, this is the colour tone I prefer.

These are very pretty! I especially like the blue sapphire setting. I like the side diamonds as it is unique and not standard rounds. The pears are really nice, and I love pears like @Bron357 pear shaped emerald.
But... I also like the simplicity of the emerald in the plain setting photo also! That’s why i haven’t decided yet on mine.

Also... since I found this emerald dealer and I know he goes to Tucson annually, I am thinking of getting a few more emeralds to make a parure. I did not set my loose emerald yet, as I want all the emeralds to match so I was thinking of bringing the loose emerald back to Tucson to make sure they match.

@MissyBeaucoup @Bron357
Since you are both experts, do you do parures? I know matched sets can be old school, but I tend to like matched sets as they are so classic looking.
I was thinking for earrings and a pendant something simple.

Too much to think about!

I'm glad you decided not to go with the first emerald. The more I look at it, the more I wonder if it might actually be tourmaline. I have TWO tourmalines that look exactly like that stone.

@Miki Moto I don’t think I’m an expert...I had to look up ”parure”. I think my philosophy has been to maybe match two things...like earrings and necklace or earrings and ring.

I love your idea of an emerald set! Somehow emeralds seem especially suited for something classic that you can enjoy forever.

The ring OP posted is most likely not an emerald ring, it does not look like an emerald at all in any way. Looks like a green tourm most likely or perhaps a tanzanite, even if monitors can be wrong.

Miki Moto posted some nice examples, the smallest being the ideal color tone and saturation for an emerald with the coveted glow, middle being less good in clarity and color, the large has quite good color and brilliance as well as clarity. Many factors are subjective but the smallest stone there was of high quality and the largest good quality as well. Emeralds are hard, prices have gone up the sky and the best ones in larger sizes are almost extinct, if available, they will be unaffordable to most of us.
