Panettone Lovers Unite!

Ah -- gotcha! Thank you for the explanations everyone. I was having flashbacks of my dead great grandmother's fruitcake and I couldn't imagine that's what was being discussed because people actually seemed to LIKE it.

before it is cooked fruit cake mix is so yummy
especially if it has booze in it

ok i got one
i walked into woolworths today and right by the fresh produce section was a selection of (mass produced) baked xmas goods
they had little ones for less than $5
whiich was good because i had only seen big ones for $20 and i didnt want to risk it incase we dont like it

what do i do now ?

You just eat it either with or without butter hun.

Both Panettone and Pandoro are Xmas Italian treats but the doughs are different: I used to like them both equally untill I found I suffered from celiac disease...which caused the end of my lovestory with Panettone&Pandoro
(I don't like gluten free Panettone&pandoro because they don't taste as good as the original wheat gluten recipes)

i did notice they did a GF version -it cost more of course:cry:

last night i couldnt wait so i opened it up and sliced two thin slices
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
im not sure

it smelt like xmas though as to me the smell did remind me of tradional xmas fruit cake even though i had chosen the choc chip one
i just buttered our slices and it did taste much better than i expected
i thought it was going to be like biscoffi so the softness surprized me
i will warm the rest tomorrow for breakfast

GF Panettone isn't as good as gluten Panettone!!!
I'm glad you were surprised by the panettone's softness...trust me, time to try also Pandoro!

HI:

Our fav Italian shop/restaurant was absolutely teeming with all products! I resisted....for now. I've made Panetonne in the past--easier than my Mom's Babka!

cheers--Sharon

i finished my tiny one off and was looking around for a bit more so i guess i liked it

Wooohoooo

Do you really dislike sultanas? I just love the fruit panettone!!!!

Get a big choc chip one! They are much cheaper than the $5 mini ones by weight!

I was spending $54 on the David Jones one before Woolies started selling their $16.50 version but after tasting the Woolies one, I’ve come to the conclusion that it is the best!!!!! So I’m saving a fortune!!!

PS Lil Sis highly recommends Pandoro!

year i despise rasins and sultanas and currents -although i do not mind them in a hot cross bun or even a Chelsea bun oddly
im ok with dried apricots, cranberries, prunes even , dried peaches are my favourite but no to figgs and dates !

i have just ordered a Pandoro in the groceries !!!

again just a small one to male sure -i dont feel like making triffle if i dont like it (i dont like triffle or that Italian coffee wet sponge thing either)

it is good to know that the Woolies one is a good one,

Good grief, I have been resisting the temptation since the start of this thread, but I finally caved and got this from Trader Joe’s this morning. I heard the average American gains 8lbs after Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays….my first lbs are going to start today with this !IMG_6051.jpeg

If you like them in hot cross buns you might like them here Daisy!!!! I love hot cross buns that’s why I love panettone!

Any chance you can order a mini traditional one to try next time?

i may just do that.
as im buying small presents for the ladies at work i m thinking about buying the mini ones and a one of those yummy bottles of dessert wine to go with it
also they have gluten free ones and one of our ladies is GF (how sad is that when you work in a bakery)

HI:

Bought one yesterday--and unfortunately I can taste the preservatives in it (palm oils, etc).. Kinda spoils it...

cheers--Sharon

I bought a small one to try with butter, however, I discovered an issue in that with the temperature set at 18.5degC, normal butter at room temperature is too solid to spread!

Very first world problem I know, sorry!

i miss a fridge with butter conditioners
when whitewear were still made in NZ they always had a butter conditioner in every fridge

The fridge freezer at home when I was growing up had a butter conditioner, and I would turn it up so that I could scoop butter off with my finger to eat.

Once I overdid it and the butter started to melt into liquid! Busted!

there i something about real butter
when mum was making a cake i would love the creamed butter and sugar before the eggs and flour went in

Not a sin! It is genius!

Mine is a vehicle for butter

Please post photos folks! If you get your hands on any. Probably a few months from now :lol-2:

THANK YOU for your post!

I have found a new way to eat butter, and liked it!

I did not like Panettone until I tried it with butter and it was delicious!

Only bought a tiny one small enough as a tree decoration when I saw them for sale at my local Lidl the German discount grocery store, just in case I don't like it.

I would probably get a bigger one now.

i brought 7 mini ones in the groceries this week as xmas presents, two were GF- i hope they taste nice, it must really sux to be GF :cry2:

Butter makes everything better Daisy!

Did you get the fruit one for yourself too? Definitely worth trying! You might like it especially since you like hot cross buns!

Remember the pictures if you buy another one!!!

i love that they always seem to come in pretty packaging
even my little tiny one is so cute
i wish mine had a ribbon in the top of the box because wouldnt a big tree with small hanging panettone look so festive
im thinking like a big bushy Radiata pine
that is our usual fresh xmas tree here as its the most common timber plantation tree here -its very fast growing because of higher rainfall and temperate climate, they origonally come from California and you guys might know them as a Monterey Pine, houses are timber framed here in NZ with their timber
i do love them out int he forest and they smell devine but im highly allergic and between that and xmas lillies ( Lilium regale) Christmas was a rather torturous time as a kid subjected to my mother's xmas decorating
we lived opposite a small plantation so would just nip over a pinch a big branch
1733381452191.jpeg

anyway just imangine this inside decorated in panettone

wait a minute -false advertising :angryfire:
mine dont have a ribbon :cry2:
