Despite some people thinking that picking the ring out together is not romantic, my man managed to make it extrememely romantic. We made a weekend of it...went down to Denver, got a hotel room at a historical hotel, looked at rings on Sat. and then went on a horse carriage ride through downtown Denver to and from the restaurant back to our hotel. We even took a bubble bath together!! Then we had a great champagne brunch at our hotel and went back and looked at more rings. and for the best part of all....we started talking about our wedding and trying for a baby as soon as we get married!!!!! It was the most romantic and sweet weekend!

Saturday night when we were at dinner talking about our wedding and having a baby, etc. I remember thinking how amazing life can be because just one year ago we broke up for a month because he did not want kids for 10 years and marriage was at least five years away. The relationship seemed doomed but we gave it another year and boy did I have to tap into my inner strength to be patient but I''m so glad I did!! I feel like I am living a fairy tale now!

We went to five jewelry stores and tried on tons of settings and here is the crazy thing...the ring that I thought I was in love with did not look good on my hand!!! Good thing we tried them on because he was going to get it. Its funny how rings have a different appearance online versus in real life.

Delighted to hear that things are going well! I agree that picking out rings with your bf can be so romantic-D and I had a great time picking our ring together.

So glad to hear you had such a great time together!

I think that a good couple can make any experience romantic

It''s nice to know you had such a good time! Our ring shopping wasn''t so elaborate, but it was still one of the moments I will cherish the most.

I agree.

When my fiance and I picked out my ring (about 4 months before he proposed - it took so long to be made!!) we stayed at the Park Hyatt in Melbourne for the weekend. We drank champagne, wandered the city, drooled over diamonds (well, I did) and had a romantic dinner. Its a great way to kick things off! Plus, we ended up finding my beautiful cushion that weekend, so it was a memorable couple of days!

That sounds amazing! Can''t wait to hear the engagement story from ya!

Oooh that is SO exciting! I am totally curious...what hotel did you stay at? Brown Palace?

P.S. What style e-ring were you originally thinking about?

Aw that''s a nice way of making ring shopping together very romantic. Applause for your FI/boyfriend!! And I know what you mean about trying on rings. I realized that delicate thin settings looked awful on me.

Can''t wait to see what you finally choose!

Yeah, I never got the whole "picking a ring together is so un-romantic" thing, either! It never occurred to me that it would be anything less than an incredibly romantic experience to share together! I''m glad yours lived up to that as well

Isn''t it funny how what we think we will like based on photos is not at all what we like in person!? I thought I loved three stone rings until I tried them on. They made my short fingers look even more short and squat! Instead I found I had to go with a larger center stone and smaller side stones so it looks balanced.

And I totally agree about how ring shopping could be romantic and I am sooo jealous of you. My FI hates shopping of all kinds and I''m sure that when it comes time to shop for his wedding band he''ll go into a store and buy the first one he sees...

since you are abandoning your original idea of the kind of ring you wanted, what kind did you decide you want?!?! thats a very important detail to leave out missy!

Yep, that''s exactly the hotel we stayed at. Are you from Denver? We lilke to go to sunday brunch down there sometimes so we decided to get a room there and make a weekend of it. It was awesome! They gave us champagne when we checked in and then we sat in the lobby and listened to live piano music. The hotel is so ornate and the design style is definitely not my favorite, but you can''t help but appreacite the architecture and the level of detail they went to in making it. When we went to dinner we hopped on a horse carriage which I had never done and I highly recommend it. We enjoyed it so much we decided to ride another carriage on the way back to the hotel. It was truly a magical night!

The ring he was going to get is this cushion setting from Mark T. at ERD. I tried one on almost identical to it and it was sort of ho-hum. I found that the setting hides too much of the rock. We are liking a solitaire w/ pave band now...something to really show off the diamond. Its sad because I really wanted to love that ring but it just didn''t feel like a good fit when I put it on. I fell in love with it when I saw the picture of it so it was shocking when I tried it on and didn''t like it.

I still love a nice big cushion brilliant and so does he but we are not sure of the setting. I sure hope we can get it nailed down in the next few weeks though. I am ready for the ring already!! We are going to Miami this weekend for a quick trip to visit family and are planning on popping into a few stores to try on more settings. We are hoping they have a little bit more to offer than Denver did.

I am originally from Denver, well actually Westminster. I moved to Scottsdale, AZ about 2 years ago. But my whole family still lives in/around Denver. I actually used to live downtown after I finished school. So when I saw you had stayed at a historic hotel downtown my first thought was the Brown Palace. Isn''t it amazing? And their brunch is so yummy!

The ring in the pic is AMAZING! Its so blingy, I''m almost blinded! But I read on your other thread that you were looking at a 2 ct (correct me if I am wrong). It will look fab in a solitaire setting. I''m so excited to see what you get!

Yes, I agree...the ring in the pic is jaw-dropping. I was absolutely sure that was the ring I wanted but in person and on my hand...it just isn''t the right ring for me. I love it on other people. But it just wasn''t "the one" for me.

Yay! Sounds blissfully romantic!

My husband and I had so much fun picking out mine as well--we even have fun with upgrades! (But that''s another story)

I love the ring your considering!

I think picking the ring together is romantic :)

It is like the first major decision you make when you "officially" decide to spend the rest of your lives together :).

I also fully agree ring IRL do look different to ones on the computer, trying on is fun :).

I thought it was romantic too

im so glad that you guys had such a great time!! im really happy for you!!

and i def. agree with you seeing the ring of your dreams on your hand may not actually be the one and your taste will totally change when you see the perfect ring on your hand!

i remember when my FI and I went to look for my ring right after we fell in love with the jeweler we wanted to go with he took me to a super nice dinner just me and him and i dunno after a day like that i think every couple feels closer its a really sweet time and moment...it was great!

WOW! That sounds so wonderful! I can''t convince my FI that there are places other than online to buy things!

Tell him that you can still buy online, but you need to go out together to try actual rings on. We planned on buying online but then realized that pictures of rings are just not indicative of how they'll look on your hand. For example, before trying rings on I was totally in love with three-stones and was sure that's what I wanted. After trying some on, they just didn't look very good on me. So we tried out lots of different types of settings and determined what would be best for me, and are having WF custom make it.

And yes, looking at rings together was really romantic.

Aww, that sounds like a wonderful weekend.

Sounds fabulous. I am so very happy for you, designchica!

It wasn't really romantic for us
5.gif
When we started shopping, we became obsessed in knowing everything that it was more of a research experience. After I designed my setting, it was about "interviewing" the jeweler that we trust, and they were impressed with our homework. Still, it's an experience we will cherish forever. It was a big step for us and when we placed the order yesterday we were all gushy and hugged inside a blanket while we watched a movie (Die Hard 4...Yeah, romantic...).
We're really glad how it turned out, because this was a result of a pure miscommunication!

The really romantic part for us will be when my BF picks up the ring and decides to propose
9.gif
I told him I don't care if he proposes in the bathroom as long as it's sincere, but now he's stressed out over this
20.gif

Now I'm worried though, because all I did was looked at thousands of pictures online and made a design based on the one I liked...I didn't actually try on any rings. Some of you ladies say that the rings you thought you liked didn't look good on you? Well, hopefully it won't matter, because I'm so fashion blind that even if it DIDN'T look good on me I wouldn't notice

Awwwh, Design- that sounds wonderful! Just wanted to say that your shopping trip sounded lovely

Congrats on the romantic trip and the upcoming news! My FI proposed without a ring on New Year''s Eve, and we designed and picked the artists to make our ring together. It was a WONDERFUL team work experience and definitely signals good luck in our marriage. :-)

It''s funny how life works, isn''t it! The ironic thing I found within your post is that you realized a ring you THOUGHT you loved and wanted so much didn''t turn out to be THE ONE, yet at the same time, your soon-to-be FI had formerly THOUGHT he wanted to put off children and has now had a change of heart as well. I love this story! I''m really happy for you, Designchica...things DO have a way of working themselves out. Hope everything continues on a smooth path towards engagement, marriage, and children for you both.
