You have got to love Dan Stair''s cuts!! He is amazing! How long until you give it to your daughter? It is so special
I just realized she mentioned a different cutter - Dan Starr. His website is http://www.dansstarrgems.com/index.html

Very pretty!

OMG that color on that is just luscious - beautiful!!

Thankyou so much for your comments! And thankyou cinnamon013 for clarifying the cutter''s name and website, it is indeed another Dan who cut this one.

I actually have kind of a love/doubt relationship to this stone. I love the cut, the sparkle and I sometimes love the color. But... color is really important to me and this was both my first custom cut stone AND my first tourmaline, and I didn''t know that many pink tourmalines brown out in incandescent light. This is common knowledge but I didn''t know it. The pink of this tourmaline is a wonderful "old rose" in daylight, and I love that. But in yellowish incandescent light the color is a maroonish pink, interesting but not beautiful and I just feel a bit diasppointed when I see it. To top it up I live in Finland, and we have LOTS of incandescent yellow light in winter and little daylight, even less sun. Sigh. I guess on a positive note in summer I will really adore the ring day and night since the whole country is flooded with light.

So despite the beauty of the tourmaline and the setting, this is kind of also a "live and learn" project for me, in the sense that next time I''ll know better. Silly, I know, but I feel a lot better once I wrote that out. I''ve been secretly so disappointed, since I put a lot of time, love and effort into this project.

One really cool detail with the tourmaline is that in fluorescent light it sometimes has blue fire, I''ll have to try to pgotograph it.

It''s a lovely stone. It is extremely difficult to find a tourmaline that doesn''t go murky or extinct in certain light sources.

I love the color! And what a unique cut. Beautiful!

I really love this stone!

Very unique and very beautiful. I love pink tourmalines!

Thanks guys!!! We''ve had some sun here so I''ve enjoyed every minute of the tourmaline.

That''s beautiful MarriedTiger, and what a wonderful tradition! Sorry to hear about the color in incandescent light, but it really is pretty, and I''m sure your daughter will love it when you give it to her (and the story behind it!). I especially love the simplicity of the bezel with the unique shape!

That''s a lovely stone, and an interesting ring!

Thankyou Brown.Eyed.Girl I think the stories are the best with these pieces of jewelry. I love your collection as well! I remember every designer, jeweler and vendor of stones who have participated in my projects, and they are part of the story. Thankyou for your compliment HollyS
