You are amazing! Nine kids, I take my hat off to you. Yes, migraines suck. I could never fake them, either, because I get this glassy look in my eyes and one shuts and waters a lot. The reglan helps the nausea but the demerol gave me terrible rebound headaches. I have been rolling on the floor in pain and my dh (fiance then) was soooo afraid, thought I needed an exorcist. My kids know that when I have one that I just need to go to a dark quiet room and pray it ends quickly, popping fiorect and drinking regular coke...the caffeine and sugar really help. My pain pills say take one every 6 hours and I need two every 4, and I barely make it to the 4th hour.

Congratulations on the surgeries and I am glad you have great results. My friend from high school had the asymetry and it really bugged her. I think it was hard on her, I was one of the only people to know. She never undressed in front of anyone during gym. Her steady guy was great about once he knew, he used to say it was like the best of both worlds small and big in one girlfriend! She still was bothered by it though...I am glad you got to do what you wanted!

MMM...I know the feeling. I was a size 2 after my third kid, and STILL had (have) the pooch...no amount of diet or exercise helps...at one point I was doing 250 sit ups 4 times a week and eating almost no fat except healthy fat and could not get rid of it. I know people who had a tuck and LOVE the results, but the first week was almost unbearable. But now they say they would do it again in a NY minute so...I am just a big baby!!!
I had a consultation for belly lipo last Dec. after I had dropped most of my pregnancy weight from baby #2. The doctor poked and pinched and rolled my squishy abs for aout 5-10 minutes, then declared that I was not a candidate for lipo (only $2k) because I had very little fat in the pooch, he said that the roll felt like coils of rope, so it's actualy scar tissue from stretching out too far, too fast. He said no amount of sit-ups or dieting would get rid of that 'bag of rope' and that my only solution is to get a small tummy tuck, he said I don't need a hip to hip incision, I just need a 4-6' incision below my bikini line. He quoted me $9-10K for the work. I believe that he was honest and truthful because he said he didn't do tummy tucks, and that he specialized in tumescent liposuction, so he wouldn't be getting my business, and he'd need to refer me to another doctor. I will definitely get a tummy tuck, but I'mgoing to have to wait until my kids are a little older, and don't require me to lift them in and out of carseats, highchairs etc.
$10k

i rather buy a $10k diamond. that's call WALLET TUCKS

not tummy tucks.

Being a pharmacist, I have seen many people come into my pharmacy for medications (usually pain medications and antibiotics) post-cosmetic surgery and lasix.

I had this woman come in once with a prescription for burn cream and Vicodin. Her face looked like she had been in a fire and you could tell she was in terrible pain. I asked what had happened and she said she had a bad reaction to a chemical peel.
6.gif
It literally burned the skin off of her face -- why she was walking around without bandages, I''m not sure. She said she had had chemical peels in the past and this never happened. Unfortunately, it''s a risk with that procedure.

I also had this woman come in for pain medications after a cheek impant procedure. They looked awful! She said she had the surgery a few weeks prior so all the swelling "should" have been down but she was in a lot of pain.

My aunt had lipo done on her hips and abdomen a few years ago. She looked good but not "great" (but I probably had some pre-conceived notions about what you should look like after lipo). Guess what -- she has put all the fat back on. Doesn''t even look like she ever had the lipo done.

For me, in the future I wouldn''t mind having lipo done myself (even after my aunt''s experience) since I have a huge pooch from two very close pregnancies. I have lost weight in my arms and legs and my upper abdomen but can''t get rid of the pooch! But I think I would be too scared to touch my face. Luckily I have good genes.

I wouldn''t do it. Too scared of the pain and the risks, plus I figure there''s no guarantee you''ll ever be happy with what you get. You may always want more and more and more. My sister had open-heart surgery when she was 15 and has said that she doesn''t know why anyone would willingly go through the pain of surgery when they didn''t have to. I''ll take her word for it!

Deanna,

Congrats with 9 kids! Glad to hear of your successful surgery!

Lasix is something I''d like to do ASAP! (Is it considered plastic surgery?
emsmilep.gif
)

I know many people who have done it, and all of them are thrilled with the results. One friend of mine was practically blind and ended up with better than 20/20.

My sight is horrible, and I hate wearing contacts.

Anyone here have it done?

Wow...I imagine as a pharmacist, you have seen alot...the lipo is tricky. As a person who has had it, you must go in to it with the understanding that once you have the lipo, you MUST be diligent about excercise and diet. Liposuction surgery is still surgery and you WILL regain the weight if you are not even more aware of what you are eating. The fat will redistribute itself...it has to go SOMEWHERE and maybe not where you want it to. When I had it, I already had the mindset to get moving and to get a personal trainer to be healthier. It is hard for me to get to the gym more than 2-3 times a week with running a flower shop, taking care of kids and such, so the commitment to ME has been hard...but worth it. Am I as tiny and fit as I want? No, but I am not quitting on me...its a life commitment, not a limited time commitment. In the past, I allowed all of my other obligations to deter from reaching my fitness goals...not any more.

I probably am too chicken to do anything with my face...besides, I am 45 right now and I have been told I do not need anything!

I haven''t done it yet, but I definitely seriously considering it. My eye dr. has told me I am the perfect candidate for it and that it would be the best choice for me over buying another set of glasses or more contacts. I have to get the $ for both that and my upgrade though. It will happen...its just a matter of when. I have all good results from everyone who has had it, including family.

Deanna I think in your case it sounds like it was the right thing to do!! For yourself even. I think too many people do it to impress others (big boobs?) and I agree that people have to figure out why they want to do it before doing it. Good doctors and not cheaping out is a must but even then sometimes things can go wrong. One of my good friends had a $12k boob job and she had to go back for them to fix it TWICE. And they still aren''t perfect. To be honest I think she looked just as good before, she wore the water bra thing and she went from an A to literally a very very full C on a small 5''5" frame and I think it''s a bit too much now. Obviously now people only look at one thing first! But it made her happy. So whatever floats your boat. But so much money!!

I also am afraid to mess with the face, hence figuring if I had anything done it would be a face lift but maybe not. I use alot of ''creams'' and lotions and stuff for anti-aging, so I guess we''ll see where that gets me in 10-20 years!
31.gif

I''m currently wearing orthodontic braces -- does that count?

I''m 28 and have a pretty lined forehead (as a writer, I sit with a permanent frown for five or six hours of the day
9.gif
). I can''t say I spend hours thinking about my forehead (who the hell does?) but it does make me look older than I am.

I''m hoping that, in the near future, there will be some kind of natural alternative that mimics Botox. I''m still not convinced that pumping oneself full of botulism is as safe as the manufacturers claim.

You do realize that women who have never had children have that "pooch" too by the time they hit midlife. Some never have it even if they''ve had children. It''s more a hormonal and genetic thing than due to pregnancy weight gain. I''ve heard a lot of stories about women who''ve had to go back and get more work done. None of it is really permanent. Also, when you lose weight your skin just doesn''t go back to where it was because you lose elasticity as you age. Once you start with facelifts for example, you''ll have to go back every however many years becuase your skin and muscle tone change with age. You can''t stop aging.

You do realize that women who have never had children have that ''pooch'' too by the time they hit midlife. Some never have it even if they''ve had children.
That may be true, but the pooch has different "filling". Some pooches can be reduced through diet and exercise, but the post-baby pooch cannot. My doctor said my pooch is probably 5-10% fat and the rest is scar tissue. If he were to try liposuction on what little fat I have there, it''ll look worse, it''ll look like a collapsed web.

I''m 53 and had a blepheroplasty (eye job) and a lower face lift in April of this year. I would do it again in a heart beat. I took a week off from work, but probably could have used two. It took about three weeks for the bruises to completely disappear from my eyes. I don''t anticipate having anything else done.

I thought I read somewhere.. that with lipo that if you regain the weight.. the fat won''t go to where it got sucked from but instead go somewhere else.. Is this not true?

That''s what I''ve heard. Lipo removes fat cells which cannot regenerate. So if you gain weight, the fat cells that expand are located in other places. So what happens? Do you get a big hump on your back or something?
Moreover, lipo was never supposed to used as a cure for overweight people. It is supposed to be used to remove stubborn fat deposits from people who are of a proper weight (like saddlebags, love handles, and the like.)

Lipo is bad to do if you''re using it as a tool towards losing weight. I know a woman who had the area above her knees sucked out, she didn''t eat better or work out and now there are dents where the lipo was. The weight went up around it... very unattractive!

I think lipo is best for someone who takes great care of themselves. It''s a way to get rid of those problem areas working out doesn''t help. And you need to maintain or else end up with odd fat deposits.

I think plastic surgery must be getting more common/acceptable. Two boob jobs and two nose jobs, and that''s just in my office.

Hell yes. I want to be able to bounce a quarter off any part of my nimbly nipped, tightly tucked, supremely sculpted self.

You can get this way without surgery. You just have to sweat and push yourself like your life depends on it. So many people at the gym -- sorry, but it is mainly women -- read magazines and gaze around while on the cross-trainer. I feel like yelling, "Get on the treadmill, crank up your ipod and let''s get down to some freakin'' intervals!"

I had laser eye surgery about five years ago (I had to have PRK which is an older method b/c my corneas were to thin) It took a week to recover (lasik is like two days both my dad and sister went back to work the next day). Your eyes are very light sensitive after but that goes away. BUT my night vision is worse (my sister and future SIL had the same results) and when I go into wal-mart, lowes, ex...where it is very bright it is hard for my eyes to focus. ALSO I think I need glasses again! I have been scared to get them checked b/c I refuse to believe after only five years my eyes went bad again. My eyes weren''t that bad to begin with and were 20/15 when I was finished with surgery. It was worth it in some ways but I am sad that my eyes are bad...maybe technology is better now.

I think when my aunt had the lipo she was doing it as a means to lose weight. She didn''t (and still doesn''t) regularly exercise or *really* watch what she eats. It looked like she put the weight on where she had the lipo, either that or she put on more weight and just looks bigger all around.
40.gif

I know quite a few people that have had Lasix with fabulous results but I''ve also seen more people that would be expected having problems since it. Mostly night vision problems. One of my patients has to wear sunglasses when driving at night b/c the glare for the headlights bothers him so much. The worst I heard was one guy telling me his son lost partial vision in his one eye. It was from an infection he got after having the procedure.

I had lasik and ended up with 20/15 and 20/10. Very happy with results and its been three years.

It''s not possible for all people to get that way using diet and exercise, nor is it practical for a lot of folks to spend an adequate amount of time exercising to get in and stay in shape. I have low body fat, work out every day using cardio & weights, have been doing so my entire adult life and there are portions of my anatomy that will not comply with my wishes. No amount of pec flies, bench pressing, etc. has lifed the twins. The muscles above, below, and around them are well developed, but the twins have still heeded the call of gravity.
1.gif

And I relate to your statements about the gym. I get so tired of asking people to move off a piece of equipment when they''ve hogged it for hours just chittychatting with a friend.

Genetics definitely play a huge role in fat and muscle distribution. I have a couple of friends that workout every day for at least an hour, and although they are slim and not flabby, there''s no muscle tone whatsoever. Dh and I are considered weird by our asian friends. We both get muscle definition easily...within a month of getting back to the gym 3-4 times (for no longer than 45minutes) a week, we both look like we haven''t taken the long 3 year break.....my triceps went from waving in the wind to hard as a rock in no time! But back to the topic of this thread, there''s still no hope of getting rid of my ab flab and getting a bigger firmer rack through ANY workout!

jay''smom
you already look so slim in your pictures

. why are you even thinking about a tummy tuck

DF, you haven''t been reading the whole thread!!!! I''m pretty slim all over, but my pooch has never been the same after 2 kids, it''s like wearing a fanny pack in the front. Clothes can do a lot to cover it up, but I want to feel good in a bathing suit and I want to feel less self-conscious when I''m nekkid in front of my husband (TMI I know.....)

maybe Kaleigh can help you with some brutal girdles.

btw; what''s TMI

My mom had 4 stomach surgeries years ago, and her stomach looked like a roadmap. She had formed all these crazy lesions and her stomach was crooked and just a total mess. She had an extensive "tummy tuck" and scar removal (except the one that went north/south)...and she looks awesome!!! The hip to hip scar is healing so well and is so thin, and looks nothing like the other inch wide scars that she used to have!

They told her that the recovery would be really difficult and she was prepared for it. But, she had hardly any pain at all, although quite a bit of swelling and fluid retention! She thinks she watched too many of the Dr. 90210 episodes....She''s about 5 months past now, and it just keeps looking better and better! She said she would do it again in a heartbeat, and thought it was soooo much easier than she anticipated!

I''m seriously considering the Botox for migraines....and see if I could have it injected right between those pesky lines between my eyebrows! Those are my only real wrinkles so far! I use lots of sunscreen!

Haha that''s bruted girdles that are brutal. DF TMI= too much information, Lol!!!!
