I have to post this one due to the color. It is 4.9mm though.

Dang! This one looks good too!

i have been looking at exactly this stone and that ruby you posted for a few days now. I think that ruby is a very nice option. I also loved the color of that sapphire but i just think itll be obviously larger, which was ;(

you think that ruby looks silky at 3 and 9 o clock? or is that just a function of the photo??

and thanks chrono & everyone else. I would like her to get a ruby because her original e ring was a very cheap ruby stone in a 9k gold heart setting. Not terribly attractive but very sweet when you think thats the best my dad could afford.

Niel,
I might be concerned in a larger stone but we are talking 4.3 mm here, so I think it becomes a non-issue the same way clarity become far more important in larger diamonds than it is for smaller diamonds. I would contact Pearlmans to see it in person. He can also get you the AfricaGems sapphire (they call in from the same supplier) so you can compare the 2 together.

Missed SparklieLover's post, which essentially said the same thing. Not to mention the 15% discount for PSers, so get on it already!

^^ Totally agree with Chrono on her points. I think it's best to see these options in person. Something tells me you'll know right away which one you want!

Ruby, ruby, ruby!!!  :appl:

Only if you like shifty blue greens.

I think for this something more vibrant and pure would be better. The color of those makes me happy but I don't think they'll POP like a really beautiful ruby would :)

Yes I li that Ruby too ans I've told her that's my choice bit she seems reluctant to give up on the three stone idea.

Update.
I found these emerald from Yvonne and my mom likes the idea as she has two both born in may, and she born in April,of doing a mother's ring.
They're just under 4.5mm

So we're thinking bezels, maybe a 5stone band with another pair of diamonds, or maybe if someone can do this with a delicate enough halo, the design attached.

Nice choice Niel, I'm no good with design so don't have any suggestions but looking forward to seeing your finished project.

Great find! I love the color on those little emeralds, and they go so well with diamonds. Good luck with the design!

You should go slightly larger. A diamond and sapphire of the same diameter will not look the same. The diamond is will consistently look larger. If your diamond is 4.5mm The sapphire should be 4.6 or 4.65mm.

I disagree but thanks for your input :) . I'm very happy with the high quality but small emeralds we were able to find I think they'll be a nice compliment to the diamond.

I don't like the airline but I'm kinda loving the double halo (I don't like the airline but I understand it was a function of the design with the fancy diamond.

omg that is stunning!!!! Love that design and think it would be great without an airline too!

Nice! Are you thinking of having one of the halos being CS?

I've told my mom to ponder doing a black inner halo and a white outer one.

She sent me this. Can you tell she isn't a gem photographer? Even so though they look yummy

ooh, that looks yummy! I was originally going to suggest a green inner halo to match the emeralds, but I think the black really pops! I hope your mom loves the look and agrees to it :)

I was originally thinking green too but I think this adds a bit of elegance that the green as lacking.

She likes yellow gold, which I don't think this would look good in. So if we do that maybe just remove the inner thank and leave that an airline?
I don't know,i hope she likes this in my mind that looks amazing. Lol.

Wow, it looks stunning with the black halo!!

What about really dark, blacked out sapphire? Then most of the time you get the black look, but every once and a while in just the right light you get a surprise

And to play around, here if it's more like a dinner ring

4.5 mm round is a common size available in most materials and colours.
Blue, yellow, pink, purple or green Sapphire, pink or red Spinel, yellow or champagne Diamonds.
Most wholesale merchants carry them, but don't list individually due to there value being low.
Any reputable jeweller should be able to locate soemthing for you pretty quickly.
These are 4.50 mm each round brilliant cut pink Sapphires with 2.10 ctn each pear shaped pink Spinels.

Well the problem wasn't finding 4.5 mm stones, it was finding them in an ideal color, as I stated. Any sub par or "fine" sapphire wouldn't have really done for this project
