Hi PS friends and family, let’s play a whimsical game/post to pass the time during the COVID pandemic.

Here goes, do any of you name your stones/favored jewelry pieces? If so, please share!

@PreRaphaelite I’m winking at Edwina! She’s a gorgeous diamond!

For those of us with un-named pieces, can we ask for help from PS-ers lol? I only have one so far, but I'm terrible at names so if anyone can help, that would be great!

@Lilith112 what a good idea! And what a gorgeous blue sapphire, silky and just the right shade IMHO!

One of the Black Opals that we had in stock until recently was nicknamed 'Stormy Aurora Australis', it had a slight black potch edge and a big array of colours including a large pinkish red flash across the entire face. It looked like a storm cloud with the Aurora Australis/Borealis light show.

The photo in my avatar is of the Opal actually, but that was only one angle and showing mostly the red flash. It had so much more colour and character than that.

So pretty! I love it, it's so fiery looking!

@Pinkmartini87 thank you very much! I do love it a lot...just can't think of a name for it lol.

Ok, here goes (I’m terrible with names but what the heck): Celeste (aka celestial/color of the sky), Livia (Latin meaning blue), Bonnie (short for Bonnie blue), Bluebell?

I recently had a ring made with my MIL’s engagement diamond, given to me after her passing last year. Hubby will appreciate when I feel it is truly mine because I’ve been calling it “your mom’s ring” or “Grandma’s ring”. Perhaps one day I will call it something else but it hasn’t been that long and I miss her.

Be careful about asking PSers to help chose names!
I ended up with “Mildred” LOL

They're all stunning! Elegant show stoppers indeed! :kiss2:

I only named one piece in my jewelry collection.

Bubbalah. After my grandmother.

I’ve named a few rings... Those which are unusual enough to be referred to in some way. But not human names....
For example, my Art Deco star sapphire ring made me think of baby moon jelly fish at night, so I named it moonlight jelly.

Because I collected other star sapphire rings, I felt that I should name them too but only one other star ring name really came to me naturally...this jadeite and clear star sapphire ring. Because the jade has a light concentration in it, which almost looks like some kind of sheen, ( not pictured) and because often one gem is showing a sheen/star while the other isn’t , this is the ‘ghost ring’. 3451E9FD-7815-4A1C-8433-FEF3D9B3E3F5.jpeg

And finally, this Bazilian topaz ring, which reminded me of a sliver of glass, so it’s named ‘ the shard’ lol.

Thank you ALL for sharing!!

@1ofakind Thank you for sharing your touching story and beautiful ring, and sorry for your loss.

@Jimmianne They are beautiful and I like the name Mildred! (I’m sure the story behind how Mildred came about is a good one!)

@missy it’s always a joy to see Bubbalah, and the photo of Bubbalah at the beach is a poignant one and I’m glad you have something to remind you of someone clearly and dearly missed.

@Bluegemz I remember your gorgeous star sapphires! Great now to know their names! Oh, the Shard is such a great name (we were just in London a few months ago and visited the Shard aka glass skyscraper).

@MakingTheGrade Beautiful variety of colors! How do you pick the names if you don’t mind me asking? (Although I can see how Theia is a spot on name for such a regal goddess of a ring!)

Haha. It’s random what I name and don’t. Alan the snake is named after the actor who plays Snape in Harry Potter because I felt the snake needed a name.

Orion is because my hunt for my ideal black opal took years and when I finally found it reminded me of the galaxy and Orion was the name of the cat in Men in a black.

Theia like you said was after the titan goddess. Named this ring because it was my first fancy diamond.

And Shale is my fancy gray diamond named after my cat shale who I found in a shale pit.

Last year, I noticed that a new bush we planted had blooms that looked like the colors in my lavender spinel. Lavender with touches of blue and pink. So I named my spinel after it, "Althea":

I'm still on the fence with a name for my diamond. My husband has a Romanian ancestry, and our last name is Romanian. After all these years he still calls me his "bride", the Romanian word is : Mireasa (meer-ah-sa). He also calls me "wife", the Romanian word is: Sotia (so-tee). So I'm deciding between those two.

I always smile @missy when you mention Bubbalah, as that is another nickname my husband calls me. But I'm not going to try and rock Bubbalah#2, lol.

Aww that’s so sweet. My dh and I call each other Bubbalah, Booby or boobylonio (nickname for Bubbalah). ❤️

And feel free to make your jewels Bubbalah too. There’s plenty of Bubbalah love to go around. ❤️

@MakingTheGrade How fun, thank you for sharing the inspirations behind the names. RIP Alan Rickman.

@CHRISTY-DANIELLE I love love that shade of purple! Can’t wait to see what you pick for your diamond—both names sound very romantic and have such a personal meaning to you to boot.

@PreRaphaelite I’m winking at Edwina! She’s a gorgeous diamond!

Thanks @Pinkmartini87 !
Edwina is named after Edwina Cutwater from the film All of Me starring Lily Tomlin & Steve Martin. Firstly, it’s a great comedy, and I loved the word Cutwater as that’s what a diamond looks like to me, Cut Water! Secondly, the character is just adorable. The way she dances in this scene is how I feel when I wear her.

I have a new girl, too. As yet unnamed, she’s an OEC of 5.2mm and has one tiny carbon speck on her table which is almost invisible to the naked eye due to the way she is cut. The brillianteer did a great job designing the cut!
Unfortunately when she was unmounted, a small chip underneath the girdle was revealed. It broke my heart because I had such high hopes for her. Fortunately, her resulting light performance seems totally unaffected for some reason, and the chip is hidden by any small prong or bezel. I haven’t decided on a new setting for her yet.

I don’t think I have any others with names. Hmmmm.

My beautiful Bella. For those of you who don’t know, she was formerly owned and loved by @missy, and named Bea after her grandmother. I wanted to honour her heritage, so kept Bea and added the 2 L’s to stand for her Luscious L colour.

@Lilith112 how about Azura for your beautiful sapphire?

I have names for two of my rings. That’s right...just two. Turns out, I’m not all that good at naming them.

Here’s “Cherry Bomb” (named by @LisaRN )

And here “Big Blue.” He’s the only one I’ve named. I had a dream about him and his name stuck.

I’m almost ashamed to admit it but I haven’t given a name to any one of my paraiba rings. So feel free to chime in if you have an idea...:D

@Lilith112 I think Bluebell is the perfect name for such a vibrant and floral ring.

@elle_71125 Amazing colors!!! If I were so lucky to have a stone that blue, I would name it Zanzibar; it’s one of my favorite places to visit in the world, and the color of the water is that exact shade under sunlight. For me, nothing beats spending the day on a yacht on pariba blue waters!

@elle_71125 here are the names that came to me looking at your paraibas. Pristina, Christina, Isabelle/Isobel.

I just looked it up and it’s no wonder you love it there. The ocean looks so flipping gorgeous!

Ooh, I love Isabelle.
