@Lookinagain, I love goldfinches!! We had one last year, it was a male, first time I’ve ever seen one and they make such cute little sounds. Pretty amazing to get the male and female in one shot.

I seem to have at least 4 or 5 as sometimes multiples are at the feeder at the same time. They are so bright and cheerful in the summer. I love watching how their winter feathers transition to the bright yellow in the spring.

Some fossils and fancy rocks today - not my domain at all, I was in it more for the walk. The walk started about a mile from the top of the hydro electric power station, in the distance you can just about see the water pipes coming down the side of the hill.

Beautiful. the colors are so vivid.

Thanks. I wanted to huge the peculiar clouds, and then the swans came out in the middle of nowhere. A splendid afternoon, indeed!

Hug, I meant.

Mommy hummingbird in a nest under our gazebo!
This is an old nest from last year. At that time, we watched a momma and her babies till they flew away.
Apparently this bird found and reused the nest! There are two teeny eggs in there.
It's a super inconvenient spot, right near the back door. Now we have to avoid the backyard again this year!

Interesting that the nest is being used again. Maybe it's the same mama and she likes your house. I think I have read that hummingbirds can return to the same place for food each year, so maybe for nesting as well?

Maybe it's the same mama, who knows? It is definitely the same same kind of hummingbird. We are happy to have a mommy hummer in the nest! We will have to relocate the grill, though.......

Here is a little 9 acre pond high in the Idaho desert. Incredible fishing there as there are only bass and bugs in the pond, no other fish to overpopulate and stunt the other fish by eating all of their food.

My friend and I fished from sunrise to ten AM and boated about 40 fish, all but two of them well over a pound, most in the two to three pound range. We saw literally hundreds of dragon flies flying around. Often two would mate for a few seconds in the air and then the female would skim the pond touching down for a fraction of a second time after time to drop her eggs.

We each kept one fish for dinner and memories were built of another incredible day on the water with friends.

The mama hummingbird was in the nest less and less for the last week or so, and hasn't been seen at all for the last two days. I'm afraid she has abandoned the eggs.
I took a photo, looking inside with a hand mirror. These eggs are small like TicTac candies.
There are still plenty of hummingbirds visiting our feeder, however.

We haven't seen her for days, I don't know why she would be gone so long?
Surely the eggs can't be viable without mamma sitting on them.......

I just read that they hatch in around 16-18 days depending on the kind of hummingbird (could be a bit more or less) If it's been that long and they haven't hatched, they may not have been viable. I think you first mentioned them here on July 22 so that would be two weeks ago. Do you have any idea how long she was there before you saw her? I guess another possibility is that a predator got mom. I don't like either of these possibilities.
