hi,

i had my 2nd fitting today and brought a friend who took some pics. the resolution sucks.. sorry. i have taken pics with a)hair up (just winged it by using some random pins) and b) open. i my dress has this ivory silk organza with spaghetti strap-halter-style and a small train. but it is rather clean and simple - no embroidery, beading, etc.. - the way i wanted it to be.

my problem now: we have a ceremony in church and i was planning on wearing my hair in a low chignon, just with some white flowers at one side of the chignon. after seeing the pictures, i am no longer sure whether i can pull off that look or whether i need more "volume" for more balanced proportions. obviously, i am not what you would call stick-thin and am afraid that such a tight chignon makes my head look pea-like and emphasize my not-that-slim-shape. in a nutshell: i am afraid i'll look chubby with the hair pulled back and that's that.

should i wear my hair down then and ask the stylist to create some soft waves to increase the volume? i guess i would have to wear a veil then to make the overall impression more "bridal"... what do you think?

i have included pics of the dress with the hair up, open and some details so you'll get an idea of the fabric and the way it "flows". (organza is not very forgiving, i am afraid). afterwards i'll post pics of the two hairstyles plus the veil i ordered (which i haven't gotten yet unfortunately).

please let me know what you think. i am starting to freak out about this because there is so little time left, i have to talk to the stylist on saturday morning PLUS they have screwed up the alterations so far!!!

just noticed my pictures seem to be attached but for some reason i can only see them if i click on the little "attached file" symbol-thingy (bottom right of the message)!!! SORRY. i don't know why this has happened (have never posted .pdfs before, just jpgs).

i hope you can still look at them, though. please scale them down to 150 or 100% when they open in your acrobat reader - otherwise they will just be plain blurry. sorry for the inconvenience - please let me know what you think.

thanks!

and then i even forgot to attach pic # 4... this is how confused i am right now. wedding is in 15 days, the salon seems to ruin my dress and i don't know how to do hair / make-up although i am meeting the stylist on saturday... *sigh*

so here finally: 4th: hairstyles in favor and pic of veil (on model)...

very pretty

thanks, rockchick, for posting these. they are gorgeous but unfortunately do not work for me. have tried half-updo-styles - they are just not for me.

i am looking for sth. rather simple - this is why i like the chignon or bun hairstyle that much. or just down and open. i have browesed the knot, instyle weddings and all kinds of links in the www. but still i have to figure out what looks better on me and with my dress.

any ideas? what do you think looks better on me concerning style, proportions, etc.?

I think your hair would look gorgeous down. It''s not due to your proportions (you have perfect proportions, slender but curvaceous), but rather it fits the style of the dress. Because your dress is simple, flowy with no frills, a chignon seems too formal for it. I''ve attached a picture of my husband''s sister who got married in Maui last year. Her gown was on the simple flowy lines like yours, and her hair complimented it well I think. I can''t remember, but I think her hair was partially up, but with a veil on, you really can''t tell, especially if there''s wisps around the face.

Try to find a pic of Brad and Jennifer''s wedding, I think a lot of brides copied her hair after their nuptials. Maybe you could even get extentions for volume and length!

I vote down. Your hair is so pretty and it looks pretty thick. I really like the one photo posted with the waves/curls and the small flower pins scattered randomly.

Jasonsmom, I love that photo you posted. I really like her hair.

I think you look awesome in your dress. Chubby is not a term that entered my mind when I saw those pics, voluptuous and damn sexy is more like it

! I've got the body of a pre-pubescent boy and I soo wish I could look that "feminine." I had to go with the poofy princess dress so I wouldn't be confused with my skinny groom!

As for the hair, I think it looks better down because of the dress type. I think updos are a better with a more structured, formal gown. The "open" hair gives you a lovely, ethereal appearance.

thanks jaysonsmum for attaching this beautiful picture. such a happy, gorgeous couple!

thanks also, diamonds4me and lollybear for the compliments... you know what it's like, don't you. usually i am pretty o.k. with how i look - it's just that the flowy fabric seems to bring out every teensy love handle, etc.. and after all, i - i guess like every bride - am super-sensitive about looking my very best on that day. but thanks again. lollybear - i always envy the very slim girls that seem to be able to pull of every look.

i think all three of you are absolutely right about the style... the dress works for me since it's just a no-frills-dress. i am just a no-frills-woman.

so i cannot pull off anything too girly, prom-ish or the like.

but after looking at all these amazing dresses posted on ps i sometimes feel it might be true for me what someone had written in the "let's post our wedding dress" thread: in a couple of years the children might ask why on earth kaschmir chose a nightgown when she got married.
9.gif
so i kind of feel i might have to do sth. to look more formal or bridal.

but formal does NOT work at all with a dress like this.

don't you think that the infamous "nightgown-effect" might rear up its ugly head when i decide to wear my hair down??? or anyone else out there voting for hair up?

boo hoo I can''t see your pictures..... I wanna play!

I vote for hair down as well. I don''t really think it looks less formal - just less structured if that makes sense? I think wearing it down would kinda create the same simple lines ~ long & flowing ~ that you have in your dress. I don''t think it looks like a nightgown or that your getting ready for bed. You look fabulous in that dress - there is no mistaking that beautiful simple gown for a night gown!

hi lovey,

please click on that little attachment symbol bottom right below the text box of some of my posts. it looks like a paper clip... if you have acrobat reader, you should be able to open the .pdf-pics.

sorry again for the inconveniene - i have NO clue why they are attached, yet do not show up within the body of the text.

teebee,

thanks. you guys are all so very sweet! what you wrote about the simple lines that also appear in the dress does make sense.

that is such a pretty look! its just so relaxed yet very stylish!

I like it when a bride looks more like herself than like someone who she ''thinks'' she should look like..

The reason they don''t show up as images in the message is because they are PDF (adobe acrobat) files, which are usually text documents. But its okay, we can see them if we try!

I think you should definitely wear your hair down. It looks better that way with the dress!

Kaschmir,

I agree with all the posters when I say:

1) Vavavavoom! You look gorgeous!

2) I definitely vote for hair down, it looks beautiful that way with the dress. And no, I don''t think it looks at all like a nightgown....although my "nightgowns" tend to look like old T-shirts for some reason.....

Ok, thanks everyone..I clicked on the doohickey and now I see the pdf. I''ve hit a patch of bridal burnout right now so am a bit on the slow side. T-minus 2.5 hours to happy hour!

And now back to the issue at hand.

First of all, that is no nightgown and you look lovely. It''s perfect!

I know the look you were going for and am going to attach low bun shots in a sec.

My honest opinion is not going to be helpful, because I think you can pull off either up or down. My advice is to just go for what you love. If you love a bun with flowers..and have always imagined yourself walking down the aisle like that, then go for it! On the other hand, your hair is exceptionally lovely and looks great down.

Here''s a few pics...first one is CBK looking amazing

another. this one is sparkly.

Any of those styles would work for you. You look GREAT in your dress. Are you wearing a veil? Jewelry?

Since we are talking hair, this is the idea I was toying with for mine...sort of vintage, but with some ooompf.

I am planning to do the low bun withone flower on the side, I loooove that look. But whne I looked at your pics I can see why everyone else went with hair down It really complements your dress so much better. Love the Jen bridal hair look. If you decide to go up, I would do a loose, "undone" bun with lots of romantic wisps, and a large loose soft flower, I think that would look really romantic with your dress. Ooooh, i''m liking that too. Can''t decide which I like better. Wow, I''m no help.

LOVEY - (sorry not trying to start a thread hijack) that jessica hair...YOU HAVE TO DO IT. That is THE PERFECT hair for that dress. Then you have to post pics cuz I need to see it. I am going to use you as my viacrious what-if-that-saleslady-hadn''t-been-so-annoying bride!
