Sna - I think you missed the part about it being on a gorgeous old sailboat and at sunset. I highly doubt she intended to invoke thoughts of "frat party" booze cruises. It's probably much more romantic and classy than you're picturing. Knowing as much as I do about CR & her BF, I think it will be an unbelievable proposal! Picture it...gorgeous boat with amazing wood-grain detailing, sun setting in the background, CR in the perfect dress, with a glass of champagne in hand and her BF drops to one knee with this fantastic 4 ct+ stone in an incredible Leon setting. How much better could it get than that???

That being said, I LOVE the dress your FI has on (she's gorgeous btw)...and I love the stuff from Lilly Pulitzer!

Ok, maybe I am misenterpreting things... But every booze cruise Ive ever been on looks like the pic above. haha... I remember thinking in Hawaii on one with FI how nice the view / sunset would be if we werent on a booze cruise...

And thatnks on FI... I just told her and she was flattered... ;)

As someone who met her husband on an olden wooden boat, got married on one, and had her honeymoon on one, let me tell you they can be VERY romantic!

The "booze cruise" term instantly makes you think of some old stinkpot power boat blaring music, but I'm guessing CR means one of those classic sailing yachts. DIFFERENT crowd completely! The booze isn't the focus on these trips, it's the sunset and the quiet beauty of sailing at dusk.

Me, I'd be wearing jeans and a sweater because it can get CHILLY out there on the Sound even in summer, but then I'm not the one potentially being proposed to! Hope you find a great dress (but don't forget the sweater!)

Help!!! So yesterday the BF let the cat out of the bag that while we are in Nantucket he booked us this gorgeous old sailboat to go for a sunset booze cruise. As soon as he told me he did this I was floored, bc I knew exactly which boat it was and he really went above and beyond! I'm so excited, but I am trying not to get too excited in case this isn't when he plans on popping the big question.

That being said, what if it is!!!???!!! I want to have the perfect dress, so I nedd some help!

We both love all things nautical so anything along those lines would be fantastic. It also needs to be something nice enough to wear out to a great dinner later. I like short dresses and strapy or strapless dresses. I don't like the whole oversized dress craze that is all the rage now, not so good on me! So preferably something more fitted, and I love blue, all shades of it! I also love pattern but the bf doesn't as much, so if it is a pattern it should be somewhat tame... Oh and I should add that I'm a 0-2 and over 5'7', just so you have a size reference!

I'd love some help here bc I really want to feel ready and gorgeous in case the moment occurs! Thanks in advance for any ideas you gals may have!

By the way, which boat is it, Crooked Rock? Shenandoah?

Looks really nice...

WTF!!! Hysterical! This is certainly not a "college booze cruise"!!! Think White Star Champagne and brie! And the whole boat to ourselves!!! He chartered the whole darn thing!!!
emotion-19.gif

Seriously I am dying over here! Not to mention all I asked for was help with a dress and I got comments about my booze cruise! To those of you whole made dress suggestions, thank you thank you!!! I am going to have to go back and look at them all now bc I had to clarify this cruise thing... And to whoever asked about which boat, it''s the Endeavor

!!!

Oh, that''s going to be amazing! I love Friendship sloops! Seems like the perfect proposal setting to me, especially since he chartered the whole boat.

I can safely say most of us did *NOT* think it was a booze cruise.

It sounds like a perfect proposal (if that is how he does it) if not a very romantic night anyways. Good luck with the dress search. Let us know what you pick!

hey, you called it a booze cruise! Chartering a boat doesn't sound like a booze cruise at all! ;)

I have this one from Anthropologie, which is not very formal. The little stripes look almost like seersucker; very Nantucket. And it''s longer in the body for the tall ladies.

US!! I didn''t say us and 25 other drunkies!

Selkie~ Thanks! I am really excited about it proposal or not... I love this kind of stuff!

Tacori~ I know not all of you thought that... It really would be my ideal proposal. I have said in other threads about dream proposals that I always wished that he would do something really thoughtful and totally us... This would be him nailing it! Let''s hope he does it!!

Crooked, you guys aren't doing any part of the actual sailing, right? I only ask because sailing instructors are always hard-core about NO HEELS on a sailboat. Or dresses, even. If you're not doing any part of the sailing, I think a cotton dress would be fine, but I'd probably leave the heels at home. You don't see many heels on Nantucket, even at night. (by heels I mean stilettos, not wedges).

It sounds so romantic!! I love Nantucket--a good friend of mine was engaged and then married there when her husband chartered a sailboat that they sailed together from Newport. The cruise is giong to be beautiful!

I'm not stylish so I can't help with the clothes--we take a few trips to MV and Nantucket during the summer, but I always go in cheap cotton sundresses I buy from the Gap for $10 at the end of the season and flip flops.

Well, if your BF is like my DH he''ll propose the day before (or an hour...) just to throw you off. Either way it will be wonderful!

Sna, even if she did mean a college style booze cruise your comments were kind of rude. I am sure someone somewhere DID propose on one. Maybe that isn''t a dream location but who are we to judge. She only asked for dress advice.

Scarlet~ All of those rock, but I''m with you I really love the Hale BoB!! Gonna have to go see if that one is in the store...

Sna~ Thanks for staring the drunken booze cruise idea!!!
6.gif
Seriously though, if those we all my friends in the pic I would be thrilled if he did it then! But it''s just us, sorry to ruin the idea of my awful tacky proposal for you.
As for Lilly, I live in Palm Beach! My closet is chock full of it! I get what you are saying, but normally, how do I say this.... I prefer a lil more sexy than Lilly has to offer, but don''t get me wrong bc I do love my Lilly when the time is right. And you are right it does fit the bill for the island, but I picture nautical, not country club with the ''rents... LOL

Hey Mischka~ Thanks for the suggestion, I really like that! I would have to try it on to know how the top would look... Like the model that style is usually better with smaller chests...
20.gif
But this may be a really good option!!

Brazen~ Thanks for reaffirming the Anthropologie vote. I never ever find things in there, but if you all say you have luck there than I will check it out this weekend! Thanks!

Golden~ You have amazing taste! Thank you! I hate to agree with Sna here
2.gif
but Silk is not the best option considering the event. I can just see us hitting a wave and me spilling bubbles down my front! It''s totally something I would do!

NewEnglandLady~ This is my ummm.... third or fourth trip to Nntucket, so I totally understand the heel thing!! Too many cobbelstones... As for me doing the sailing, not a chance! LOL I will be sipping not sailing!

Tacori~ LMAO... he would totally do something like that! He almost has to know that he told me about it... Just seems so obvious. Who knows, maybe the boat is just my BDay present!?

I like...
Yup, Anthropologie
And this

Not to throw a monkey wrench in here but would you consider a cute "skort" dress (like a dress but connected in the middle like shorts)? The reason I ask is because I've done quite a bit of sailing and I know that you are not actually sailing the boat boat but it's likely to be breezy and you might be climbing around a bit, or at least maybe climbing on and off the boat, and I don't know how a dress or skirt would be in that scenario...

I truly wasn''t trying to be rude at all... I was just guessing that had it been that type of atmosphere she may have guessed wrong... Since then, she''s given a much better descreiption of the cruise, and I agree it would be a great setting... If I offended your Crooked, I apologize...

Sounds like you have some good options to choose from here as well... And having been to Nantucket before, you should be fine with whatever you decide... You''re 5''7 anyhow, so you don''t need heels... ;)

Sna, its great that you have apologized but I''ve just gotta say, it''d be beneficial to not take things so literally and give others a lil more credit.

Do you really think a lady with such good taste in an ering would be looking forward to getting engaged at a spring break-like environment? imho, you knew this wasn''t true but were being a lil silly..
And as for your passion about women''s fashion and others''s suggestions - well...interesting!
2.gif
lol. I agree with others, a blanket statement about male fashion designers isn''t really true. For example, i think a Diane Von Furstenberg dress would be perfect for CR''s request.

CR - I think you have been given some great suggestions -I am not in the states so not too familiar with your options, but I would think a simple cotton dress, maybe a wrap style (DVF) would be nice, in nautical colours such as white dress with a blue shawl or cardigan for when it gets chilly? I dunno, maybe the nautical theme seems cheesy, but I think it would be cute.
the proposal idea sounds totally fantastic, can''t wait to hear how it goes
1.gif

Good luck Crooked! I have no suggestions as I only shop at the Gap (LOL), but I''m sure you will look awesome!

And I have to say this thread is hilarious...

alright already! He was kidding! He admitted it was a joke. I got it the first time. I didn''t need sna to
admit it was a joke; why do you?

I think we should be happy to get a man''s perspective on these things. Stop trying to run sna away.
You post on a public forum - you take what you get.

the booze cruise was thrown out in the poster''s description- sna only high lighted what cr wrote.
He''s only trying to be helpful. yeeesh

Let''s get back on track and help CrookedRock find a dress for her special occasion.

the green dress that you like, a lot of department stores have it, so you should check the stores, a boutique around the corner from my house has it in their window and my mom and I admire it every time we pass by. I checked the department store onlines, and no one has small sizes left in stock!

this is a great comfortable dress

THIS IS A GREAT DRESS- IT IS SO SIMILAR TO THE GREEN AND BROWN MILLY YOU LIKE, BUT THIS IS BLUE, PLUS SUPER COMFY, IT IS REALLY CASUAL SO YOU COULD DRESS IT UP WITH A GREAT NECKLACE AND BRACELETS, MAYBE A CORAL NECKLACE
