I''ve hard good things about those too... BUT I''ve also heard that they can leak. The milk can get into the outer chamber and then when you set it down, the milk runs down and can leak through the threads. Thats the only thing keeping me from going with those. Sometimes I wonder if these reports of leakage are from user-error.
Ditto... I''ve read at least one review on every bottle that *someone* had it leak and they will NEVER use it again.
20.gif

Yep... you''re right about nearly all bottles having an unhappy customer due to leaks. Any thoughts on glass bottles?

I used medela b/c it connects to the pump. Then added in born frees but when evenflo came out with their BPA free we used those full time.

FWIW we use Avent bottles and have no issues at all with them and we are on week 5 with using them. The few times they HAVE leaked it WAS user error and we just had to screw the cap on a little tighter and that was that. Honestly when I was researching I also thought thought the same thing re: bottle had some review about it leaking and I also wondered if it was UE.

We also have Born Free bottles but Greg took one look at the contraption when he unscrewed it, and said 'this is a PITA to clean, so no thanks'...so we never have used them.

I have heard lots of good things about Playtex Drop Ins for 'nipple confusion' help with BF babies. My neighbor swears by them. In the first week we used Gerber with newborn nipples (sooo not like a real nipple at all). Then we moved to Avent and while we did have some latch issues because he WAS used to the bottle (we didn't start by BF then moving to bottle)...I don't think it was from the Avent but prob rather from the Gerber, and after 2 weeks we were fine and now 5 weeks in he takes both boob/bottle just fine.

As for GAS... J has some but it's not bad and I don't think it's the bottle because it seems like when he gets it, it is either breast or bottle. We also think he has a little reflux.

If you have an Avent pump I would try the bottles just because they attach easily. Also Avent has a storage kit for BM that I bought at Target that attaches to your pump, it was $15 and has 10 containers and lids. We LOVE the storage kit even though we don't have an Avent pump, but if you did I would totally try Avent just because you've got the pump.

Lastly, I would not buy too many of any brand, but buy 2 bottles of ~2 brands and see how it works for you. That way you don't have a ton of one type of bottle your kid doesn't like or whatever. Because we are BF'ing and bottle supplementing, we only use about 2 bottles a day and they are easy to clean and sterilize so we actually only have TWO 4oz Avent bottles we have been using since the first week. We have two more 9oz ones but we haven't needed to 'graduate' to them yet.

re: glass bottles - all i''ve heard is that they are heavy. plus the chance of breakage.

We used a few glass here and there. Never broke one even though we were exhausted. But they are heavy. We used those cheapie evenflo ones and were happy with them. We swapped to the same bottles but in plastic once we moved to the bigger size because the boys could hold them much easier.

Opps! I never used evenflo, we used Nuby. Like NF mentioned I had to get the 11 oz size once T got older. That girl loves her milk. One of the best days of my life was when T could hold her own bottle. Makes life SO much easier! I would never want her to hold a glass bottle.

Tacori! My mom and dad told me on a recent trip home, that when I was a baby they would lay me down a certain way in my crib and prop my bottle up on a pillow next to me and I just sucked out of the bottle myself... yes, just like a hamster in a cage. LOL!

Ohh, how times have changed

So we registered this weekend and put 3 different kinds of bottles on it... Avent, Tommee Tippee, and Breastflow. Two of each. I feel a little ridiculous and worried that my baby is going to end up super confused now! I guess I''ll never know until I try them though!

Also, we bought our stroller! I had planned on getting the City Select since it converts to a double later on but everytime I play with it in the store I have a really hard time moving the seats and folding it. Its awkward for me and also the latches and buttons would occasionally get stuck. I wanted so badly to like it but I just couldn''t. We were at BabiesRUs and saw they had a really great deal on some of the the Maxi Cosi Forays in a discontinued color. I had liked the Baby Gizmo video for it except for the fact that you have to take the seat off to fold. We tried it out and its a DREAM compared to the City Select and all of the others I tried (and I tried ALOT) even with the seat removal. Its heavy but not as awkward for me so it doesn''t *feel* as heavy as some of the others. And I feel much better about the price since it was half of the City Select. If we need a double later then we''ll figure that out when it happens. Does anyone else have the Foray? I''ve read mostly good things about it.

That is so funny! I actually started her with the Nuby bottle that has handles but I got REALLY lucky b/c she was holding it on her own around 7-8 months (I think). T is Miss Independent so I guess I should be too shocked but it was awesome when I had to give her bottle in the car or her stroller. She just did her thing.

psa - sophie the giraffe is one sale on amazon for $14.95 plus it qualifies for free shipping if you spend $25. i just picked up two for shower gifts.

Will someone please explain why people love this thing?

I don''t know...my guys still don''t put it in their mouths...but they think it''s hilarious! If they get fussy, I show them Sophie and they laugh! haha

My dog wants a piece of it too
11.gif

My little guy mouths it! It''s soft and squisy and easy for him to hold on to and to get in his mouth.

Mandy - my dog already ate our first Sophie!!

I was so upset cause at the time that was Wes''s favorite toy, it made him laugh and laugh. So I bought a second one!

mamas looking for a shopping cart cover, the buggy-bag cover is on babysteals.com today. I have one and love it and I paid a lot more for mine. Shipping is a lot but the total cost is still very good for this product.

I will have to look into Sophie! I had not heard of her yet!~

Anyone have recommendations on highchairs? We need to get one soon. I know there were a lot of recs for the Boon Flair a while back- just wondering if this is still a favorite? Any up and comers?

Natalina, we are registered for the Boon Flair, but after seeing Mandy''s thread on the $25 ones at Ikea, I am thinking we are going to get that instead.

natalina - we were going to go with the boon flair but decided to get the space saver by fisher price.

We wanted the Boon Flair but are going to go with the Ikea one since its much cheaper and really easy to clean. Plus, I don''t know if its been mentioned already but I think the legs all come off so its pretty compact to store or transport.

I love our Boon. I love how easy it is to clean. I love how it is on wheels (b/c I do wheel it around). I love the tray liners. I love the insert pad. I love the look. I love that it has shoulder straps not just a lap strap. It is pricey. The price is the only thing I don''t love. Both my mom and my MIL have the FB SS chair. I know moms on here love it but it is not for me. Guess I am spoiled.

posting this link because i know many of us here have or have considered slings for our babies.

the article warns against a certain "type" of sling rather than any specific brand.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35782340/ns/health-kids_and_parenting

The U.S. government is preparing a safety warning about baby slings — those popular and fashionable infant carriers that parents can sling around their chests to carry their baby. The concern: infants can suffocate, and at least a few have

Tacori- I am a little embarassed to admit I really want the Boon for all the reasons you listed, too! Half of my brain knows we should save money and go with a less expensive highchair- but darn it, it''s just so cool!! Is that terribly pathetic of me? DH would kill me if he read this....

I don''t regret it at all! T has been using it 3x a day (plus sometimes snacks) since she was 7-8 months old. Plus it makes me happy to see it. Really happy. I didn''t need a $500 stroller but I was not going to compromise on something that would be on display in my home for the next who knows how long. Compared to "regular" high chairs they aren''t that much more. Chicco''s is $140 last time I looked. I got my Boon on Amazon for $180. I do like the look of Ikea''s and it is a smart buy but honestly the wheels really make my life easier as do the tray liners. It is adjustable which is nice. Not having shoulder straps would also be tough b/c T can wiggle out of the lap one and proceeds to STAND in her high chair
20.gif
As a SAHM it is worth it.

Tacori- the only thing I am concerned about is the size. I saw a couple reviews that say it only fits very small children. I''m worried if Ellie gets my thighs she''ll be out of it by a year
2.gif
! But I''ve never seen it in person. Tessa is a tiny peanut, isn''t she? Do you think this is a valid concern? I mean, I don''t think Ellie is going to be abnormally large or anything...hahaha!

I wouldn''t worry about that. I have the Boon, and my son is a BIG baby and he fits just fine. Now, if his little belly gets any bigger we may have issues
2.gif
But judging from my friends that had big babies, most thin out once they start walking, so I''m not concerned Lex will not fit into his highchair anytime soon. I''m w/ Tacori on this one, I tried to find something I like better (aesthetically) and couldn''t (well except for Bloom, but couldn''t justify that $). The practical side of me wanted to get the Ikea chair, but I just loved the way the Boon looked and it fit w/ our modern decor. So yeah, I only got the Boon because I liked the way it looked
3.gif

Oh and it''s so so easy to clean, I cannot imagine having to clean a highchair w/ padding/cushions...I''m WAY too lazy for that.

Natalina, have you seen baby pictures of my girl? She had THIGHS. Love me some baby chub. Point is I wouldn't worry about it and have never heard that at all. I did take the "cushion" out some time ago but I can put the tray on with no problems. Tessa may be short but she is not a skinny tot.

cdt, they do thin out the second year of life. I hear ya on the lazy front. I FINALLY figured out the straps come off too. The thing is so dang easy to clean.

CDT and Tacori- Thanks so much for the responses! And the great thing is CSNBaby has it on sale for about $178, no tax, and free shipping! Boon here we come!!!! I''m so excited!
36.gif

(And Tacori- of course I have seen pics of your GORGEOUS girl!!! I guess I just had it in my head that she was tiny all over, not just in height. She is just a doll, qand I love those baby rolls, too!)

I just tried Weleda Calendula Diaper Cream at the recommendation of one of the moms I know, and it cleared up G''s rash soooo much better than anything else we have tried. It''s also cloth diaper friendly.

Re glass bottles - we have some and yes, they''re heavy. We dropped them a few times and never had problems with them breaking.

That is an awesome price seeing how I bought it for $180 two years ago. Yay! What color are you getting? As a baby T was 25% for height and 75% for weight.
5.gif
She is losing some of her rolls and folds and it does make me sad. She looks like a little girl now.

i know there are crib mattress recs somewhere deep in the bowels of this thread, but please have pity on a first time mom of a now fussy 3 week old and someone post the page or re-post your recs?! pretty please?

Tacori- I ordered the blue/white. And it already shipped! Yay!

Ginger- Ellie has the PBKids Supreme Lullaby mattress. She seems to like it

Nat! Lucky! We got a hand me down wooden Eddie Bauer one from my sister. /i would love to have a new Boon, but felt guilty passing up free. I wonder if the Boon would even fit in my kitchen, its pretty small.

Ok, to jump on the Boon talk- HELP.

I know all of the raves for the Boon- I''ve had my eye on it forever now, and have read all of your recs for it (thanks Tacori!).

BUT a friend also recommended the Stokke Classic Tripp Trapp. The Tripp Trapp turns into a regular chair for babies/toddlers/kids.

http://www.csnbaby.com/Stokke-144406-SKK1454.html

Just can''t figure out what we NEED and what the pros/cons of the two above would be. Right now we have a small kitchen that we will never eat in, and a relatively nice dining room. So I anticipate that the highchair would stay in the kitchen for now (so Boon). BUT the Tripp Trapp can be pulled up to a table and turns into a regular chair so would be useful later on.

I guess for those that have BTDT, any reviews for the Tripp Trapp? Anyone see any negatives about the TT that I am not seeing?

Oh and you can buy a plastic tray for the TT (expensive, but practical).

Oh, and let''s leave price out of it for discussion purposes.

I was all set to buy the Boon today (thanks Natalina for the sale tip!) and now I''m confused.
