mrsS what a scary situation! so glad to hear that you and Jake are fine.

snlee YAY for D STTN!!! i hope it continues. when B started STTN, everything got so much better!

hope all the other mommies had a wonderful thanksgiving and a fun day shopping, if you did.

Thanks Mrs S! Sorry about the choking scare. Your heart had to be racing!!

Thanks lili! I think my DH is already starting his bat collection!! He is so worried about the teenage years!

Thanks! We''re found of her....but we''re obviously biased.

Bobo~Thanks! She does have some cheeks. Gotta love the cheeks. Glad you think hers are good enought ot be buddies with litte B!

Jas12~Thanks! So sorry Co is sick! Boy, can I relate! Could be an ear infection. When T had her ear infection last week her fever was up to 103.7 and we couldn''t get it down. Some things I learned at the ER: if fever is over 102 you can double the dose of tylenol. Keep socks or footed PJ''s off so the fever can go out their feet. The doctor also suggested no heavy materials so we used cotton pg''s and receiving blankets. Some of this may not be new to you, but thought I''d share. Hope Co feels better soon!!

Thanks Puffy!

Snlee
D is so handsome! What a great head of hair! Yay for a great checkup

Sorry about the clogged milk duct

Burk
T is just gorgeous. I agree with everyone else - Mr. Burk is going to have his hands full. Maybe we should start a support thread for the dads.

Mrss.
That is really scary! Glad everything is ok. Wine and movie sounds good! (Much better than whine and a movie

Jas12
Sorry to hear that Co is sick - hope he feels better soon. Are you near Toronto by any chance?

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday!

Burk--thanks for those tips, if anyone has experience with a sick baby it''s you--i didn''t know about the double dose so i''ll do that tonight if need be.

Co''s fever was gone in the morning when he woke up and then gradually increased over the morning and aft, he still has absolutely no other symptoms so he must be fighting something and keeping it at bay (which is good) he''s so cuddly right now, lays his hot little head on my shoulder allll day. Wish he would do that once in awhile when he is healthy!
I called Telehealth and the nurse just called me back to say i don''t need to do anything special unless he goes over 105 and shows other symptoms so i''ll play it by ear. He was around some sick ppl last week and i tried to keep him away but maybe he picked up something...
Of course this all has to transpire on the w/k i actually had plans--missed our old fashioned downtown xmas walk last night and a friend''s annual holiday party is tonight. I was looking fwd to both---bummer

iluvcarats--i live 4 hours north of T.O , but iam in the city very often cuz my sister lives downtown.. Are u from T. ?

Oh Burk, T looks adorable. Just look at those blue eyes!!!!! Love her cheeks!!!!, She is so darling. She is going to be a heart breaker when she grows up
9.gif

I am so glad she is feeling better!!!

Linda

jas12- I hope Co is feeling better. I''m sorry he''s sick but glad you can at least get some nice cuddle time with him. jake is starting to want to be on his own and my cuddle time is limited with him too.

burk- thanks for the fever tips. I never knew about not using the footed pj''s or to double the meds. None of my kids have ever had a fever that high though, thank goodness, but it''s good to know for the future.

Burk, Tayva is such a beautiful baby. Love her blue eyes and her adorable and kissable cheeks!! Glad she is feeling better.

MrsS, Oh my you poor dear, that''s so scary for you and for Jake. Glad he''s ok!!!!

iluvcarats~Thank you!

Jas12~Cuddly is so nice isn''t it? I wish T would do that when she feels well...fat chance!

Sorry you had to miss out on everything you had planned for the weekend. I hope that he gets to feeling better soon.

Linda~Thank you! My husband is concerned that she may be a heartbreaker. Poor guy is already stressing.

mrss~I didn''t know about the meds either. You''re so lucky your kids haven''t been through that. Hopefully it stays that way!

Kaleigh~Thank you!

I am about 3 hours from Toronto on the NY side. I believe Lost Sapphire is from Toronto. Toronto is such a fun city! I love the Bata Shoe Museum.

Snlee: D is such a cutie with an amazing head of hair. He certainly sounds healthy with those stats at his 2 month visit. Chloe''s appointment is tomorrow and I''m nervous about the shots, but anxious to find out her stats since I have no clue. We don''t even have an scale in the house for me to take an amateur stab at weighing her! We''re doing well thanks---she''s cooing and talking to herself which is too sweet. Lots of smiles..moreso in the morning. The evening, she gets fussy and nights can be tougher. She isn''t so easy to get to sleep, but once asleep is making it through the night--even 8hrs. But I need to figure out how to get her down before midnight! How''s your sleep routine going?

Burk: Those eyes are amazing, I''m jealous! DH has blue eyes, but Chloe''s are dark so far...

Just checking in fast (really cut pictures!!!) I am STILL sick. Day two of no voice. It is very annoying (in addition to just feeling horrible). My dad said it is viral so I have to wait it out...My MIL had the flu over Thanksgiving and spent her vacay in her hotel room. But...it was still nice to be with my family. T charmed them all of course! I am just hoping and praying she doesn''t get sick. We have been fairly lucky so far. Hope everyone else had a great weekend/holiday. Post more pictures!!!

C-Section Moms

The time is arriving quickly for me, I am at 35 weeks and because I am pre-pre-eclamptic and only one twin is head down it is looking more and more like a c-section for me.

Anyone have any advice? Things they wish they knew? Things they wish they had on hand at home prior to coming home?

I know lots of you love the mesh underwear (I plan on stealing many) and to make sure I have pants that won''t hit the incision, and to walk around a lot afterwards...but that''s about as far as I''ve gotten.

See you ladies for good soon!

Thanks! It''s surreal at this point to think that in less than 3 weeks we''ll have two babies!

Oh wow neatfreak--good luck and can''t wait to see the pics of the babies!

Well, coming from someone who didn''t pack a bag in time (despite being 40wks), I agree on the mesh underwear. I also "took" some of the pads and pain relief items (I didn''t have a c-section though). One thing I realized is nice outfits were pointless, I only wanted to wear whatever was baggy and comfy. And bringing snacks from home was key. Also wet-wipes to wipe down toilet if you''re sharing a room. Good luck!

Thanks Janine! I really hope I don''t have to share a room...ugh. When I was in the hospital before on the antepartum unit everyone had their own room...I''ll have to ask my OB tomorrow if it''s the same on the postpartum floor.

neat this really isn''t going to help with a c-section as i did not have one, but if you plan of BFing, i would suggest you get some nursing tanks. the hospital gowns were pretty impossible for me, so i sent DH home to pick up some tanks for me. i just wore the tanks and some beat up sweat pants and a hoodie for night time. but i wish you the best and we can''t wait to meet your little boys!!!

I have lots to catch up and and also to report (I officially went koo koo roo over the weekend! I went to BRU at 5 am for Black Friday...and wait until you find out WHY.
20.gif
) but wanted to respond to neat about c-sections.

Neatfreak, Ella put up a great post after my c-section. I have copied and pasted it for you below. In addition, here are my 2 cents.

1) getting that first fart out is key. Once you realize you can pass gass, it's so much easier. Yes, this is gross, but seriously, gas is an issue. I didn't have gas everywhere like Ella did, but I was so scared that I'd rip my belly open if I farted. When I felt rest assured that wouldn't happen (after the first time I passed wind), life gets easier from there - and let's not even talk about bowel movements (that's when the heavens part and trumpets blare). And really, take heart and notice that when all this happens, everything feels perfectly GREAT *down there*! That's a benefit for sure!

2) Take careful care getting in and out of the hospital bed. Make sure that it is in a good position to do so...for some, it means higher, some lower. I don't know what the *correct* position is, but i found it easier to lean against the bed in a higher position so my butt was on the edge of the bed while standing, then to lower the bed slowly to help me sit on it and get into a lying position.

3) Re: your babies. Be aware that they may spit up a fair amount of fluid from their lungs (I believe). This was alarming at first (nothing like the sound of your baby choking in the middle of the night to make you forget about c-section pain and jolt out of bed) but is normal. Still, as I noted, it will unnerve you so prepare you husband for this and to be quick in reacting, otherwise YOU will and it may cause strain on your wound as you move more quickly than you should.

4) Even though it feels weird at first, wear the girdle they give you. It helps keep everything together.

5) Yes yes yes to the mesh panties! Take as many as you feel ethically OK taking (hehehe) AND take the monster pads that go with it. regular pads are not early as good in those things.

6) Take the loosest pair of comfy pants you can find, but don't necessarily plan on wearing them. The amount of people checking on you down there and on your scar will amaze you. They will be checking for how much blood is coming out, how you healing, etc. Giving them quick and easy access will make your life easier, and taking pants on and off may be difficult early on.

7) I hear that scheduled C's are better when it comes to chill factor. Nothing could prepare me for how frigid I felt during the csection. Ice ran through my veins from whatever they used to numb me. I was shaking like a leaf and it took me at least an hour post-op to feel even slightly warm again.

8) And finally, walk. You won't be able to get out of bed for a day or two, I think, but afterwards, they will want you to move. Do so. Take your babies in their little wheelie bed and walk slowly back and forth where you can (hopefully with your husband assisting you.)

Everyone is different, but I hope I am encouraging you by saying my c-section recovery was a breeze. I'm not 100% in the sense that I still feel weird tugs and aches in my abdomen from time to time, which is why I still think vaginal is best. However within a week of Amelia's birth, I was out with her and her BOB jogging stroller taking half mile walks at a good pace. They say you can't drive for two weeks (but I had to because both my parents ended up in the emergency room on the same night within a week of Amelia being born) and shouldn't climb stairs - but honestly, I was A-OK in one week.

Good luck Neatfreak! How awesome and exciting!!

Ella's advice:

On the topic of c-sections, here's some info I figured I'd pass on that I hadn't known ahead of time:

1. Oh, the gas!!!! One of the worst pains from the whole surgery was the gas pains. And not just in my stomach (where they press up against your incisions, making lots of uncomfyness) but everywhere in the body -- the shoulder, near the ribs, etc. I was drinking decaf tea and walking the halls as often as I could to try to relieve some of the pressure, and I guess that helped somewhat, but YIKES. I did not expect to have such painful gas. ETA: ASK FOR A WARM COMPRESS FOR YOUR BELLY. THAT WORKED WONDERS! I LITERALLY FELT THE GAS MELT AWAY ...

2. The swelling. I had some ankle/feet swelling near the end of the pregnancy but it was nothing compared to what my feet looked like when I got home from the hospital. They were HUGE. I guess being pumped full of liquids when in the hospital will do that to you. Keeping my feet elevated -- and I mean *elevated*. Not just resting on a pillow but resting on a stack so my feet were waaaaaaaay up in the air -- for two nights while I slept has returned them back to their normal size finally though -- hallelujah!!

3. Taking care of babies is hard -- taking care of babies when your belly is swollen and full of gas and you can't get off the couch and you're in pain is beyond hard. Like everyone tells you, take the help when you can get it. I didn't want to admit at first that I couldn't be SuperMom right away, but once I started resting more and letting my MIL make me sandwiches and do all those "But I can do it myself!" things, I started feeling better.

4. Nurses are wonderful people. (Dani, I was thinking of you when I was in the hospital!) Truly. We had one nurse in particular that I just wanted to throw in my suitcase and take home with us.

5. No matter how miserable your recovery is, it's all worth it in the end. The pain is temporary -- the love of your babies is permanent

Neat,
I had 2 C sections. I think TGal highlighted all the important points. I will just say, as soon as you can get up and move, you''ll be better off for it. It also helps with the gas. Yes the gas is pretty painful, once you can pass some, you''ll feel so much better. Take it slow at first, but keep at it each day.

Take all the offers of help. It does take time to heal, and you will be tired. The more you over do it, you''ll take 3 steps backwards. So take it easy please. Can''t say that enough.

Best of luck to you!!!!

Thank you TGal and Kaleigh!!! I really appreciate all the advice, that is exactly what I was looking for. Obviously the hospital my OB can't tell me all those things. You guys rock. Let's hope I won't need the advice, but I know I will be well prepared if I do!!!

And Puffy: I am already wearing my nursing tanks, lol! So much more comfortable than a bra right now.

No problem! Oh, don''t forget easy slide on shoes that you can wear socks with! You will be in no position to bend down to put on shoes and I wouldn''t want to walk around the hospital barefoot. I only mention the socks because it is winter soon...

And don''t forget the chapstick and ponytail holders!!

Much luck and love to you, see you soon!

Neatfreak, best wishes and can't wait to meet the twins!!! Sending you good delivery vibes friend

neat, I didn''t have a c-section but I''ll add my .02 to the other great advice you''ve gotten. If you can, have the babies sleep in the nursery at night so you can get a bit of rest. I didn''t do this with my first and was so exhausted from little to no sleep. babies #2 and #3 went to the nursery and the nurses brought them in every few hours to nurse. It''s very hard though with your first (and second in your case) to let them take them away but I really do highly recommend it. you''ll have plenty of nights to be up caring for them so use the nurses and hospital staff to your advantage. I even sent Jake to the nursery during the day so I could nap. I just couldn''t sleep with him in the room when I was alone b/c I was listening to his every breath. good luck girl, you are soooo close!!

Neat~I didn''t have a c-section, either. Loved the mesh undies and lived in my pj pants and nursing tanks for weeks. Good luck. See ya over here soon!

Tacori~Sorry you''re still sick!! Get better soon!

Good luck Neat!
Can''t wait to see your boys.

Quick drive by...

Neat Freak -- Great advice so far. I lurved my c-section. I got the shakes during the procedure, which creeped me out but it was not an issue. Take whatever drugs they offer you the first 24-48 hours...then it''s up to you. I was only on Motrin after that. Everyone on the hospital staff will ask you about your gas and your poop situation, no matter who else is in the room. Bring warm socks. See if they will use Dermabond. Do NOT worry about the epidural...but speak up if you have scoliosis. Tell the nurse/anesthesiologist if you feel nauseated...they fix that really fast. I was nauseated from the anesthesia for about 24 hours...to the point of feeling bile rise, but the meds stopped that immediately (I was barf-phobic...still am). All the IV fluids built up, so I left the hospital all bloaty like that chick in Willy Wonka; my ankles were ridiculous. I had only lost 10 pounds when I left the hospital (after delivering 13 pounds of baby and all the accompanying stuff)...it took a week to lose that, but it came off quickly. You may feel weird tugging at the incision site for awhile (I still feel it sometimes). They will shave any hair in that region. You will still bleed out the hoo-ha. It''s a quick procedure, and you may feel detached from the process.

DH''s can look funny in the hospital gown.

The anesthesia gave me the giggles.

But, that being said, I really really would want another one. The first 24 hours weren''t fun, but they weren''t awful. I was just set back by the nausea. By Day 2 I felt pretty darned good. Not move-a-piano good, but good. I felt about 95% by the time I left the hospital.

Hi everyone else...I''m sorry I''m such a lost cause these days.

Tgal--it better be a damn good buy to justify a 5 am trip to BRU!!!!

Neat--can''t wait to see you on the m-side soon! Ditto to stealing pad and meshies. I hope everything goes smoothly for you

Snowed in again here--ugh. Got the pics to prove it (nothing else to do but hang around the house and document the winter and bake cookies in our pjs

My child''s obsession with lights continues, the xmas tree is just fuel for the fire. His newest trick is to point to lights when we say "where are the lights Co"? (but sometimes he waves at them instead
