PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

I have a question.

How late is too late to take your baby out at night? My hubby works late and doesn't get off till late and he asks if we can go out to run an errand with him or go pick up some dinner after he gets off work. After being home all day I would love to go out for a little bit, but I feel guilty taking Wes out anytime past 7pm. But, since he doesn't go to sleep until anytime between 9:30-11:30pm right now anyways, is it fine to take him out?? I feel like after 7pm should be quiet time at home for him, before he goes to bed. But then I also feel bad for not going out with my hubby for a quick outing.

Just wondering what you all do, when your cut off time for taking the baby out is?

UGH UGH UGH. I wrote a whole freaking post and the accidentally closed the freaking window. ARGH. MEH. BLERGH.

Long story short -

Calvin is totally into touching things too. He's all about texture!

I love BPF. LOVE IT. PS babies are freaking adorable. That is simply a fact.

I seriously love all the pics.

Calvin's napping is back to normal, basically meaning that he sleeps for about 35-40 minutes. It is how he rolls.

Here is my contribution to BPF

ETA - sorry it is HUGE. Me and computers, we ain't getting along so well tonight.

Wes is like one month old right? I say take hime out wherever you want to go girl! To me, bedtimes only matter when they sleep longer than 2 hours in a row

All the babies are so cute! I love them! Makes me want another little one

All the PS MOMS I started a thread in SMTR to show off any type of jewelry you may have bought to commemmorate the birth of your child. I found a bunch of yours, but I know I missed a few for sure! Pop on over and post em ladies, pictures with chubby babies are especially welcome!

DD, time flies I know, Wes is actually 2-1/2 months!
6.gif
His normal/average sleep length at night is 3 hours at a time before he wakes. I guess if he does fall asleep while we''re out then as long as he''s sleeping while we''re out and doesnt'' keep getting woken up, it''s ok.

Sunkist: I think taking a baby out is okay at night...I mean I don''t think I would be out at midnight or anything...but 7-10 I think is fine.

In me-centric news---It''s snowing! I can''t wait to bundle Evan up and take him out for his first snow!

Thanks dreamer and sunkist. Dalila is 8 weeks old. She used to scream every bathtime but now she seems to enjoy it.

I''ve taken Dalila out pretty late too - up to 11 pm. She doesn''t have a set bedtime as yet....but even if she did, I wouldn''t see any harm adjusting it backwards for an evening outing.

question for those who CIO (can you tell the sleep deprivation is getting to me?)
did your LO wake to eat? or were they just waking up several times a night? do you still feed them every three hours if you are CIO?
i guess this ? is mostly for sabine. charlie goes down pretty easily at 8 - wakes at 11:30-12:00 eats 4oz (the most he eats/offers during the day) then wakes up every hour after that! i feed him again 3 hours later when he wakes b/c he does his grunts (like he''s hungry) but he usually only eats 2oz that time. then he''s ''up'' for the day seemingly at 5:30 ish but i fight getting up b/c i''m so tired. guess i just wanted to know how it all ''works''.

mommy confession: everyone thinks i''m some kind of ''super mom'' for continuing to nurse/BF after all of our BF issues. his non-latch at the beginning, the chewed nipples 2 months in and the subsequent mastitis and surgery.... and while, yes, i absolutely wanted to continue to nurse and was completely heartbroken when it didn''t ''work'' the way i *hoped* it would .... my *other* motivation was the 500 calories it burned everyday. i''m back into my ''transition'' jeans and i haven''t worked out a lick! i gained 48 freakin'' lbs while PG and i only have about 12 more to go before i''m pre-preggo. seriously, i haven''t done a thing... it''s been too cold to even walk outside.

oh c had his first day (half day) at daycare yesterday. SUCKED!!!! i cried before i even pulled into the center.
this next month is going to stink BIG TIME!

good news! my surgeon gave me the OK to increase my time in between pumpings... (thank gawd.. this schedule is killing me). and, like i said before, i''m heartbroken that i''m giving up BF - i''m a liiiiitttttllleee excited to put this behind me and the worry associated with a return abscess.

viz, over and out.

Viz, glad you can go longer between pumping! And sorry about daycare. Claire''s first day is Monday!

Everyone''s babies are so cute. I''m trying to upload a photo of Claire in her new Bumbo. I resisted the urge to get a pink or purple one in case Claire has a brother some day.

We''re getting a big snow storm here right now, expecting about a foot. DH is out riding his mountain bike in the snow. He called to say that he had separated from the group to try to get home when he told me he''d be home, only to go around in a big circle and wind up where he started (in a cemetery, no less!). I hope this doesn''t end up like the horrible novel I had to read in 11th grade English where this Scandinavian family moved to some place like North Dakota as settlers. It started out all happy and nice, but then the mom went crazy from the isolation, so the dad went out for help in the middle of winter, and they didn''t find his body until the snow melted in the spring! OK, obviously I don''t think that is going to happen here . . .

The snow puts everything up in the air for daycare and work on Monday. Monday is supposed to be a teacher work day, so I was going to get the chance to make copies, rearrange my room, figure everything out . . . If school is closed, I''ll have to do all of that in the morning before school starts. Bah. Oh, and DH suddenly told me he made a lot of appointments for Tuesday without realizing that would be my first day back to teaching (he''s supposed to drop Claire off in the mornings, and I really don''t want to have to do it that day).

Last night while I was sobbing about leaving Claire, I mentioned that when I am working, it will be too stressful for me to have DH gone "three nights a week." So I''m pretty sure he was like, "Note to self: only go out 2 nights a week." We''re kind of there now, where he''ll cancel things that are less of a priority when things he really wants to do come up and he''s already done a bunch of stuff that week, but I just wanted to make sure it''s official.

OK, so here''s Claire in her Bumbo, looking a little bewildered.

Viz, what I did was this:
I was in the habit of feeding Jacks 1-2 times a night because even though he wasn''t fully waking up hungry, he would get soooo restless and feeding him without letting him get fully awake was a way to get him back to deep sleep and allow me to get a little bit of sleep. So before we did CIO, I toughed it out for 2 nights and basically tried whatever I could to get him to fall asleep/stay asleep without eating, to see how long he could go. I knew if he wouldn''t go back to sleep, he was genuinely hungry.

To my surprise, he went from his 7 PM bottle till 5:30 in the AM without needing to eat, and when I did feed him at 5:30 he only ate half a bottle and then immediately spit it up on me so I don''t think he was even hungry then (of course, I got NO sleep that night). So that made me confident that I wouldn''t need to feed him while we did CIO.

If you do a "test" night, you should be able to tell when C is taking a full feed, and then after he falls asleep, if he wakes at that time, feed him (but don''t let him fall asleep while eating) and immediately put him down and then continue CIO from there. It sounds to me like he might need to eat at 12, but that should be it.

Good luck if you decide to do it! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Sunkist - I think it depends on the baby and your parenting style. I take Daisy out wherever and whenever we go. Last night we went for dinner with friends and Daisy slept 20 minutes in the car over there and then played with their kids toys all evening. Then went to bed at 10.30pm when we got home. She was up at 9.15 this morning.

I''ve always had her fit round our schedule especially as DH works late and so he''d never see much of her. When it''s a ''home'' night she''ll normally go to bed around 8pm otherwise it''s whenever we get home.

Ebree - Daisy just eats when DH and I do - and whatever we are eating. I''m still bfing on demand and I would guess she''s getting at least 3/4 of her calories from me still. Normally she plays more than eats, but she enjoys it and that is my main aim.

Likes and dislikes change all the time. She LOVES meat though. Fingers of steak or roast lamb are huge hits, as was curried mutton. Fish hasn''t been popular. Bread is a firm favourite, as are potatoes and things with pastry. Vegetables are hit and miss - spinach was a hit today. Dried apple crisps are good as are oat snack bars (sweetened with apple juice rather than sugar) - although I don''t ban sugar or the odd chip (what you call french fries I think).

Sabine - Yay for sitting! They learn to not self-harm pretty fast. I was terrified about Daisy hitting her head on the wooden floor here, but she learnt to just plonk down on her much-padded backside very fast!

Confession: I dress my son in girls clothes. With pics to prove it.
5.gif
The picture below is from Thanksgiving. That''s my SIL''s old apron that he''s wearing.
3.gif

CUTE babies, everyone! I love seeing all of the pictures.

Solids - he''s eating whatever we''re eating, but he goes through phases where he loves spinach or beans (I try to limit quantities of beans for obvious reasons) or banana and then later he doesn''t want to eat them. He consistently likes meat, bread, and Goldfish though - wonderful.
20.gif
He''s regressed somewhat in terms of how much food he''s eating and he''s often not interested at all right now, and I asked our pediatrician about it but she didn''t seem concerned. He''s getting all the milk he wants.

Viz - that''s great news!

I''m upstairs "working out" right now a la Mandarine, so I guess I better get off of here and hop on the elliptical. LOL.

Pic of Daisy from yesterday...

The trousers are size 3 months... this kid is ridiculously small - she''s still wearing the 0-3 month sleepsuits I took to the hospital with me!

Sunkist - I'm not sure you're going to *like* our answers, because I'd say the majority of us here keep a pretty early bedtime. We start the bedtime routine at 6:30 and Romeo is ASLEEP by 7pm. Asleep. Done like dinner. So....obviously it's ok to take Wes out on outings since he has a later bedtime, but eventually, you may find that he sleeps better through the night by going to be earlier
2.gif
PS. Wes is TOO cute. Love his little leg rolls. AWW!

Sha - Dalilah is adorable!!! Really pretty girl. Glad you posted!

Re: Solids. We do 3 meals a day, and Romeo is still really really picky about the smoothness of his purees. He does not like any lumps at all; gags if there are any. Today he did well with a textured puree of halibut and sweet potato. I was impressed. I'm trying to do more 'fork mashing' (or as I called it to CDT "monster mashing") to get him used to textures. I'd like to faze into BLW sooner than later, mostly because I'm bored with purees. Romeo eats EVERYTHING. He just opens his mouth complaisantly and I shovel it in. Nothing (except bananas) are rejected.
Ebree - pears are great if he's constipated.

OMG! Calvin, George, Daisy, Claire: YOU ARE ALL SO GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

So his developmental tyraid continues. He's just going a mile a minute now. Crawling, pulling up, talking. He's teething too so on top of it all, he's miserable. Last night he was up crying every couple of hours.
20.gif
I can't wait till these teeth come in so we can go back to normal.

PG and Tao-- Ooo how fun that you have snow! That sounds like fun. I hope Evan and Claire enjoy their first snow!

Claire is looking so pretty! She''s a good girl in her bumbo. Wes doesnt like his. Although I dont think he is really ready to use it yet, but I tried him in it.

We took a walk down by the beach today, it was Wes''s first time to the beach. It was a little chilly so we didnt get him out of the stroller, just walked on the boardwalk. But I think he liked the bumpiness , it put him to sleep. Or else the sound of the ocean reminded him of the waves crashing soundtrack we play for him sometimes when he sleeps! :D

Viz, good luck with CIO if you decide to try it. Im wondering if I''ll be able to when the time comes
32.gif

Pandora , I cant believe how small D is!! How old is she now? Wes just started wearing his 3-6mo clothes this week and Im thinking I need to try size 2 diapers on him, and he is 11weeks. I guess he was 91% for height at his 2mo checkup. Daisy is so cute!

Mela, well I think thats why I''ve been so hesitant to take him ouy past 6 or 7, cause I was trying to get him to do an earlier bedtime. But now Im realizing that he just doesnt want it yet. He wants to go to bed more around ten! Sooo, if he''s not interested in sleep till then, I dont know that he has to be home having quieter time from 7pm.

I guess he can let us know when he''s ready for that early bed, or we''ll be able to tell or something. And for the compliments on his leggy rolls

Sunkist-I''m like Pandora. I take Sophia everywhere. We don''t go out every night (we''re usually home Sun-Thurs) but when we do, I don''t think much of it. Now, I do try to be reasonable. For example, tonight we were going to dinner and the drive-in. Sophia had a long day and was really tired so I told FI it would be better to rent a movie and hang out at home.

Viz-how old is Charlie again?

This was just *my* experience but when I noticed that Sophia was only taking 2oz that was my cue that she was a)waking up for comfort and b)needed just a little more to tank her up. I don''t remember all the details but I believe it was the feed between 10:30 and midnight when she first did it. So I increased her bedtime bottle by one oz and eliminated that feed. When she would wake up, I would pick her up, rub her back, do some shh sounds, and put her back in bed. After about 2 weeks, she stopped waking up at that time. When she did that again but for her 3am to 5am feed, I repeated the process.

Do you think if you offer him maybe 5oz before bed that he would take it? You don''t have to increase all of his other bottles but he may need a little more to get him through an hour or two more at night. Just an idea.

Mela-saw Romy is crawling. Watch out world, the heartbreaker is mobile!

Sophia went to her first birthday party tonight. I haven''t decided if she''s going to be a social butterfly or a bully. She kept laughing every time one of the kids would trip haha. It was hilarious to watch her interact with other children. She was the youngest there so couldn''t do much activities but she had fun.

My rant for the day-

Would you say anything??--

There is a lady that walks her dog down my street every morning and evening and her dog barks all the time. I dont know why, it just barks at the air
33.gif
But everytime she walks she stops right in front of my house and chats with another lady, meanwhile the dog yapping the whole time! And the only thing she does to try to stop him is lightly tug on his leash every couple of barks! And this ALWAYS happens when Wes is sleeping, so either the yappy dog wakes Wes or my own dog will bark at the yappy dog and that will wake up Wes. Either way it majorly bugs me that she lets her dog yap incessantly right in front of my house
29.gif

First the babies are so cute!

China You inspired me. My MIL was here last week to let me do some work on my dissertation (which actually was great and I got a lot done). BUT one afternoon after working all morning I was wiped but didn''t want to go home to deal with the boys so I went to an afternoon matinee by myself. Awesome! I am doing it again very soon. Even if I have to pay a babysitter to do it!

Hey, Fiery and Blen''s recent posts of newbor photos made me feel reminiscent, and I thought it would be fun for us to post pictures of our babies as newborns and currently! If ya got em, please post em!

Here is mine, one week and 10 months (at christmas).

Oh my Lord!!!!! These babies are just too adorable!!!!!!

George rocking his apron, Miss Daisy cute as a bug, Claire such a cutie and sitting right up!, Calvin and those eyes!
30.gif
, Hunter in all his yummyness, Dalila looks like a doll, Romeo too funny with the look in his face like "did I really just stand up!!!!?"....who am I missing??? I love them all!!!

Anchor That is seriously awesome!!!!!!!!!!! My guys never slept that much until later...and when they did it was in the earlier part of the evening (7pm-midnight)...so it did me no good because I couldn''t really sleep at that time!!!. Go Jacob!!!!

BlenWorking out a la Mandarine is the best workout there is! hehehe

***

So crazy is this?

Lucas slept two times through the night this week (WOOOHOOO!) 7pm-6:30am. Then last night he woke up UPSET and hungry at 1am and then at 6am. Alex is still all over the place and unpredictable (1am sometimes, then 4...other times just 4, etc..)

Last night we went out to dinner with our friends that are visiting. They have a little guy, just 2 weeks younger than our boys...so our home looks like a day care! haha. Anyway....I thought my babies were good...then I met her baby!. My God, my boys are LOUD!!!!. I so wish they would take the paci! This kid makes a beep, they put the paci in and that''s it...he''s quiet!. I swear I wouldn''t know he is here if it wasn''t because I actually see him!!! He''s very quiet!!!!!!

not sure if my picture collage will post...hopefully it will.

Mandarine: When do you find out if they are identical?

Gah! All the babies are sooooo cute! I can't get over how cute all the babies are. Love the girly clothes on the boys! We have a little set that looks like it is more for girls---we haven't put it on him yet---he's too small for it...but when the time comes he's going in it :)

Evan slept pretty well---my husband is "snowed in" at work so I had him all day yesterday and I'll have him all day today. Thank god he slept great! Woke at 4:30...back down at 5 and didn't wake me up until 8!

ETA: OMG! He's three months today!

Dreamer I love this idea!!!

I''m hoping this isn''t too small....Lex at 10 days old, asleep on me

phoenixgirl, cute pic of Claire! Is that blue thing the Bumbo? Is it basically like a baby seat? I've never seen one before.

sunkist - I think I would mention something to that lady. Not knowing you have a sleeping baby she probably doesn't think it matters where she stops with her barking dog. If she knew, I'm sure she might makes some effort to control the dog or change where she stops to chat. I share your frustration about barking dogs as our next door neighbour has FOUR who love to bark at all hours of the night and morning for no apparent reason. It's really frustrating because as soon as they start barking then ALL the neighbourhood dogs join in along with them!
29.gif
This does not make for a good bedtime routine.
38.gif

On the diaper thingy - Dalila is also in size 2 (nine weeks). So far it's been working out - no leaks, yet.

Pandora, love that pic of Daisy too. How old is she? Maybe she'll just be a petite miss. She's really cute!

Dreamer, what a great idea! Here's my newborn shot of Dalila:

And at 8 weeks.... looking ornery

K, I wanted to remove the first photo but couldn''t figure out how to do it. ????

I wanted to post this newborn shot instead, because it better shows how much she''s grown since. This shot if at the end of her first week. She''s wearing the same hat as in the 8 week photo.

daliahome1.jpg

Sha, such a darling! And I love the newborn pic versus the 8 week pic; she''s a real little person now. And yeah, the Bumbo is the seat; I got it at Target in the baby section. As for barking dogs, we have a bark deterrent that I ordered off of Amazon. Our neighbors have a very skittish German shepherd whom they let out at all hours of the night; I heard her at 3 a.m. last night! But with the bark deterrent on, she just barks one time and then stops (because it sends a high pitched noise that irritates her when she barks). We had asked them to be more mindful of letting her out during sleeping hours, but they weren''t, so we felt justified getting this device and using it overnight.

So something magical has happened with my endurance. Let''s hope this is a permanent change. Thursday I went out for a run and wound up running for an hour. I only came home because it was getting dark and I didn''t tell DH I would be gone that long; I felt like I could run forever and ever. And yesterday I did my hardest Firm workout; neither of these made me sore. I''m hopeful that completing the 10k I''m signed up for in two months will be a piece of cake even I can''t up my training much from here. Now that I''m returning to work, I''m being much easier on myself in terms of scheduling workouts ahead of time and then making myself stick to it. It''s too much stress to feel like there''s something else I must do each day, but if a free hour pops up, I''ll happily squeeze something in.

I''m glad to have something positive happening since on the negative side my hair started falling out a week or two ago. I have a thick head of hair, so I don''t feel like my head is naked, but my hair is everywhere and my ponytail is definitely less bulky than usual.
