PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

Sha, such a darling! And I love the newborn pic versus the 8 week pic; she''s a real little person now. And yeah, the Bumbo is the seat; I got it at Target in the baby section. As for barking dogs, we have a bark deterrent that I ordered off of Amazon. Our neighbors have a very skittish German shepherd whom they let out at all hours of the night; I heard her at 3 a.m. last night! But with the bark deterrent on, she just barks one time and then stops (because it sends a high pitched noise that irritates her when she barks). We had asked them to be more mindful of letting her out during sleeping hours, but they weren''t, so we felt justified getting this device and using it overnight.

I looked online but I can''t see a deterrent on amazon. Could you post a link if you remember? I am very interested...

So you set it up in your side of the yard and it goes off when she barks? How interesting.

I wanted to attempt to show Wes in his carseat over the weeks. I'm not sure how this is going to turn out, lets see...

eta, oh well it's kind of small. I hope you can kind of see!

This is our bark deterrent: http://www.amazon.com/PetSafe-Outdoor-Ultrasonic-Bark-Deterrent/dp/B000UZNLGA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1264989397&sr=8-1

It's the fakest looking "bird house." And yeah, it is activated by barking. The reviews make it sound like it doesn't work with every dog. Thankfully it does with ours! The battery ran out today, and DH ran out in the snow to get a new one. This dog barks continually when outside without it. The possibles cons are that it irritates other non-barking dogs in the area who aren't doing anything "wrong" and that it works through irritation (but hey, they actually do the same thing to stop teenagers from loitering in some places by playing those high-pitched sounds adults can't hear). We point it in the direction of our neighbor's yard when it's on, and it doesn't seem to affect the dogs in our other neighbor's yard.

I think it is so gross when people leave their dogs outside to annoy neighbours! We have one accross the street but I only hear it occassionally. You can bet if it was our neighbour I''d be calling the municipal "police" to come give them a citation and a fine!

We have neighbors who leave there poor dogs outside ALL the time in the freezing cold! They only bark periodically so they''re not terribly annoying but, when I hear them, it does remind me of how sad I am for them. When we bump into them, usually when we''re walking our dog past their house, they talk about how much they love their dogs...yada yada yada. We''ve NEVER seen them walk any of them in the year we''ve lived there.

PG, I''m glad that bird house works for you! Now, if only your neighbors would pay attention to their dog!

Good Morning Ladies!

We got another monitor at work to make things more efficient and it works. I can now have PS on one screen and Word to reply on the other! LMAO!!!

Amber-Love the pic of Piper! Are her eyes blue??
Anchor-Jacob is adorable. I can’t believe he’s a month already! Time flies.
Mandy-The boys are really adorable. I think they look A LOT like your DH! And I voted that they are fraternal but based on that pic I’m kind of thinking maybe identical!
CDT-LMAO @ that pic of Lex. It’s so funny. I’m sorry he cried when you dropped him off. Sophia is starting to get a little of that separation anxiety when I drop her off in the morning too. She doesn’t cry but she gives me the most pathetic face.
Tao-LOL @ spending quality time together. Funny, that’s how FI spends quality time too! He’s a cutie!!
Sunkist-He’s adorable and I love his shirt! Haha
Sabine-Jacks is so cute and he’s getting so big! There were A LOT of Carters fleece sleepers in my local BRU. Have you checked? I can get some for you if you really want them. I think they were on sale for either $5 or $7.
Sha-Dalila is adorable! I love the bubbles hahaa
LL-OhMyGosh how flippin cute is Calvin!
PG-That’s a great pic of Claire. She looks like she’s seconds away from falling asleep and I love her outfit!
Blen-You made me lol with working out a la Mandarine hahaha. I love that George is always so happy!
Pandora-Is Daisy really in 0-3 still?! She’s adorable!!

I am loving the newborn comparison! I’m going to post mine too!! I also love that Hunter made an appearance on the thread and he’s gorgeous!

Ok I think it''s a little hard to see but the top left corner is 3 days old and her very first time sleeping in her bassinet (you can see her biliblanket poking out
3.gif
), the top right is I think two weeks old maybe less and the bottom was yesterday! She found it hilarious to be in the bassinet.

DH is at an interview right now and it sounds like the job would really be a great opportunity for him. Can we please get some dust?

Dreamer, I can't decide if this is a good idea or a bad idea. I love looking at all of the cute pictures (and am happy to see some new ones of Hunter), but this is not helping me with the whole baby fever thing. My ovaries are just aching.

2 days left, 9.5 months (last night) right. (ETA - sorry so big!! Oopsies)

Blen - me too!!!!!!!!! I want a little little baby again

Sending LOTS of dust to your DH!!

Love all the pics ladies, but yeah, not helping my baby fever. DH and I decided this weekend that it would *best* for us to wait until June to TTC. I''m a little bummed actually, but we really want to move this year and hope to at least have an offer on our place by June so I think it makes sense to be a little more settled before we TTC. But it definitely wouldn''t be so bad if it happened sooner, you can''t always plan these things, right?
11.gif

And I can''t wait to see who is the 1st of our group to get KU w/ their second

Wow fiery! Sophia was such a little peanut:-)

Blenheim-George''s face looks exactly the same at birth and now. He really was born looking just like himself, most babies I meet change so much! You must have a strong little man:-) Lot''s of dust for DH''s interview!

****JOB DUST TO BLEN''S DH****

Claire is at daycare. I managed not to cry. It helps that I am home today due to the snow. I''m going to get my lessons ready so that whenever school reopens (which could be tomorrow, but probably won''t be), I''ll be ready. It stinks that I won''t have a day to get my room in order, but oh well.

I really think Claire would STTN if we didn''t respond to her. Last night she cried and thrashed at 12. I gave her the pacifier and she went back to sleep. DH did the same thing at 1:45 (the funny thing is that the other one didn''t wake up both times, so we both thought this had only happened once). She woke up talking at 4:45, and it occurred to me that she might still not really be hungry because she was just chattering away and not crying, but I didn''t want to push things with her starting daycare today, so I got up and fed her. Often after a long stretch like that she''ll then wake sooner to eat in the morning, but she went back to sleep until I woke her at 8:30.

I''d rather have an overnight feed for my milk supply and so I don''t have to provide as many ounces for daycare. We''ll see -- if I seem to be pumping enough, I''ll give it a try.

The phone just rang, and I thought, "Oh no! Something''s wrong at daycare!" but it was just my sister.

Blen- Dust to your husband! **********

Phoenix- That bark deterrent looks interesting. I'm glad it works! Nothing's more annoying than a constant barker when you've got a baby who's trying to sleep.

TTC #2- I'd like to start this September. If we were lucky the first go 'round, we'd have another June munchkin and Henry would be turning two. It'd be nice to start trying earlier, but I really want at least a 2 year age difference. I think my husband's on board, so we'll see. Maybe this fall, probably by this winter.

Oh! In sleeping news, we moved H to his crib in his room last week. I was SO bummed about having to do it, but we weren't getting much sleep with him in bed with us- none of us were. He was waking constantly, and I thought it was tooth pain, but now I see it also might have been us shifting around and waking him up. I'm sort of a toss-and-turner. Since he's been in his crib, he sleeps from about 7:30 to 4-5 am! He might wake up once in the middle of the night, but just fusses for approx. 30 seconds before he's back to sleep.

Me, I'm not so great. I've been getting a lot more sleep, but the past few nights I've woken in a PANIC looking for him. I'm almost sure, in my mostly-asleep state, that he's fallen off the bed. My heart pounds and I feel this sense of dread that something awful has happened until I wake up a little more and realize he's in his crib down the hall. I hate it. I wish we could all co-sleep peacefully.
7.gif
But, this is what works best for everyone.

ETA: Let's talk SOCKS. Which are your favorite? Which stay on the best? My kid has jumbo feet (he's in 12-24 month socks now at 7 months, and they're on the small side) and we're forever looking for good socks.

Wow, Ebree - it''s amazing how different your little one looks now. His eyes are much bigger and brighter than in the newborn pic. How cute!

All the other comparison pics are so nice to see. It''s amazing how much babies grow in such a short space of time!

Barking Deterrent - what a lovely idea!! Thanks for posting the link, phoenixgirl.

Hello Ladies!

Loving the pictures! And for everyone who wants a little baby again- wanna borrow Piper? She's pretty mellow, eats a few times a day, will sometimes poop herself? She's got new tires, only 9 weeks old.

I've attached the pics of Piper- she's so big now!

So I think she's outgrown her bassinet. Her arms are slapping the sides and her feet are close to the bottom. I'm still kind of afraid of putting her in her crib, though! It seems so far away, and I don't know if I'll get ANY sleep if the monitor is on. Now I wish I had a video monitor.
7.gif

We had a rough weekend with the dog, he's had diarrhea lately- uncontrollably since Wednesday, accompanied by vomiting and inability to urinate (as of Saturday) so we took him to the vet. Almost 700 dollars later he's home with subcutaneous fluids, antibiotics and dewormer. We spent the day at the vet, until Paul got scared Piper would catch a dog-disease there, so I left.

Question for EBF moms: if my right boob is the heavy producer, and gets a little sore when full, should I just feed multiple times in a row from that side, or keep alternating? I don't want my supply in the left boob to dwindle, but my right gets pretty sore sometimes.

Piper has been semi-sleeping- bed at 11pm or so, up at 3/4/5. Yesterday she woke up at 5:45 after going down at 11pm! Miracle!!!

ETA: TTC #2 is a far way off, I just sent in my BC pill prescription.
7.gif
I'm sad, but one is enough right now.

Fiery, yeah, her eyes are blueish grey, with a dark blue ring, The inside color is more grey than blue. Her dad and I both have light brown eyes/hazel so we're hoping they transition to hazel. My dad's eyes are grey and both of us have grandparents with green eyes, so we're hoping for some throwback eye color tossed in there! I know they'll change, though, our hispanic genes are too strong!

ETA 2: GOOD LUCK to Blen's DH!

Sunkist I love the carseat comparison!

So my cousin is pregnant and finds out the sex of the baby this month (either the 8th or the 20th, I cannot remember when). I haven't said anything because I think it would be rude to say something but I'm **really** hoping she has a girl. I'd love to be able to give her all of the clothes we have. She's in the most crappiest of situations. She was dating a guy for a very long time (I want to say 4 or 5 years) and they were living together. When she got pregnant, she was very excited and he was not. He told her he didn't want her to have the baby and then...get this...confessed that he had another family
23.gif
. Apparently he has a wife and 2 (or 3, can't remember damn mommy brain) children in DR
38.gif
. She had no idea. He would visit DR with and without her. When she'd go with him, they were together the whole time so it's not like he would go sneak off. And she would visit DR frequently without him so it wasn't a big deal that he would go alone. He had also been sending money over to the wife but because they didn't have a joint account (thank Goodness), she never really saw what he was doing with his money.

Anyway, they're not together anymore obviously and he wants nothing to do with the baby. She makes enough to get by but can't buy lots of stuff so I'm giving her Sophia's infant seat, swing, bouncer, and I have a bunch of diapers left over that don't fit her or that I didn't care too much for (like Huggies that gave her a rash). But I have a ton of pink stuff and lots of clothing so I'm crossing my fingers that she's having a girl.

OK, I''m still too dumb with this Mac to know how to put the photos side by side. So here''s Claire at a few days old:

ClaireNBsleeping.jpg

And here she is at 12 weeks:

P.S. I pumped 3.5 ounces -- not the 4 or better I need to pump only when I''m away from her, but enough that I think I can make it work with the freezer stash and a few extra pumping sessions at night and on weekends.

Claire12weekssitting.jpg

Ok, loving all of the baby pictures, esp the comparisons (great idea DD!)

Jacks, Calvin, Jabo, Piper, Alex & Lucas, Lex, Evan, Wes, Dalila, Claire, George, Hunter, Henry, Sophia are super scrumptious!!!! Did I forget anyone? Love seeing all their names together, too cute.

So we need comparison pics of Charlie, Romeo and Oliver- am I forgetting anyone else? I will do it this week for sure. How do you do the collages, btw???? I have a Mac.

SOCKS- Would love the same info, O refuses to keep the socks on his feet.

Blen- MUCHO dust your way!

Phx- It will get easier. The first time my nanny called me and said "Can you talk?" I nearly had a heart attack.

AFM- Well, I think O is developing a personality.
23.gif
He''s still super happy and easy-going, but getting a little fiestier. Which I like in theory, but not so much when he decides to scream bloody murder b/c he doesn''t like something. Trying to figure out how and what boundaries to set, though he''s still young.

I met Jcrow, Meresal, GingerB and RadiantGirl for brunch this weekend. Radiant''s son was a perfect angel, while O proceeded to have his first meltdown in public and DH had to come pick him up.
20.gif
To be fair, I think it was naptime but he usually is so easy in public. Oh well!!! He had a really busy weekend and we definitely had him on the go more than normal. Fiery, O attended his first birthday party as well!!!! And DH gave him a taste of cupcake icing!
6.gif
I scolded him and reminded him of allergies, to which DH promptly responded that no one is allergic to sugar!
3.gif
He had a point. I got a cute pic of it, will post later.

He is so ready for food and I am having to fend him off. I know I can give it to him, but seflishly I am holding off till exactly 6 months just cause it sounds like a hassle and I''m not ready.
11.gif
Also, he soooo wants to crawl. He does this hysterical "swimming" move on his tummy when he wants to move. But he''s already getting up on his knees, which is way too early for me. When did yours all start crawling???? I know everyone is different, but I am wondering what the earliest is. I would be very happy for him to not crawl until late, but I am afaid I don''t get a vote.

Fiery- I told you we got a babysitter for Lost, didn''t I???
11.gif
So excited. And it''s on Groundhog Day, so appropriate.

Neat- So glad you went to the movies!!!!! I love going alone, it''s such a luxury. See anything good?

China: I went to www.picnik.com to make my collage- so easy and free!

DH is back from the interview. They''re evidently looking specifically for someone with his background, which they said is an unusual combo, and liked him enough that they said that he''s on their short list. We should know something more definite next week. Fingers crossed. Thanks for all of the dust - I know it''s silly, but it seems to have helped so many others here.

Fiery, that is just awful and appalling. It sounds like having a girl would work out really well.

Amber - Piper''s just adorable! She looks so squishy and huggable. I''ll take her.
2.gif
I think that if you want milk supply to kind of equalize in the long term, that you should probably alternate feedings so that the side that produces less gets that stimulation and so that the abundant-producer gets the message that it can slow things down a bit. You can pump or hand express the right side a bit when it''s engorged if you need to relieve it, but if you want to equalize production, you don''t want to pump enough that it thinks that it needs to make all that milk. I think it''s very normal for women to produce more on one side than the other, btw. Hope the pup feels better.

China - in addition to the mess, the poo gets seriously gross when they start on solids. Solids = overrated.
3.gif
I don''t know how to do collages on macs - I just copy/pasted in Paint. Super high tech.

Crawling - 7.5 months over here. But I can''t remember if that was army crawl or hand-knee crawling that happened then. I think hand-knee came about two weeks after army.

Socks - we had a mystery hand-me down brand of sock when G was itsy bitsy that worked wonders, but unfortunately have no idea what they were as far as buying larger ones goes. The one (yes, one) pair we have right now that will stay on his feet are BabyGap. I think I''ve read other recommendations for BabyGap socks from ladies here as well, so that might be one to try out.

I think I got a comparison shot... I''m hoping to do this again at his 1 year b-day in less than 2 weeks
23.gif

12 hours old and 11.5 months

kylestages.jpg

fiery- How awful! I''ve got some things I could send you to give to her, if you''re interested. Some leftover diapers, articles of clothing, sleep gowns. Just let me know.
1.gif

China- O sounds a lot like Henry. He was so ready for solids before 6m, but we waited too. While it''s fun to see them try things for the first time, solids are messy and they''ve complicated his poops. At 7.5m, he isn''t crawling yet, but trying. He can get on hands and knees, but isn''t sure how to move. If he gets frustrated, he just rolls to the toy he wants.
20.gif
9.gif

Blen- BabyGap, eh? Thanks for the rec! I''ll order a couple of pairs and see how we like ''em.

Dust to Blen’s DH!

As for baby fever, I swear I’ve had it since the day little E was born. I never thought I would love being a mommy this much! Yes, I get no sleep, and I get puked and/or pooped on at least once a day, but looking at his face just makes me so happy. I am excited to have more. I think DH would be on board with having another sooner rather than later, but I think it may be more practical to wait.

Phoenix – I’m sure Claire will do great at daycare today. It sounds like she is sleeping great, too. As for the pumping, you’ll find that the more you pump, the more you’ll get each time. I was so worried I wouldn’t have enough when I went back to work, and I’ve ended up with an oversupply!

Fiery – I can’t believe that happened to your cousin. What an a-hole! I hope she ends up with a girl, too, so she can have all of Sophia’s cute clothes. You’re so sweet to be helping her. Did you by any chance go get a convertible car seat this weekend? I’m interested to know which one you ended up getting.

I love all the comparison pics! I am not quite sure how to do them, but I’m going to give it a shot. If this turns out horribly wrong, sorry! It shows him at about 4 days versus now, at 4 months.

Eli Compare.JPG

Fiery- Wow, what a difficult situation your cousin is in.
29.gif
to the jack ass baby daddy. Who does that???? Anyways, I also was going to offer to send you any extras we may have. We have some gender neutral stuff and even some newborn stuff that he never wore.

Ebree & Blen- Thanks for the info on the crawling timeline. I can so deal with 7.5 months or later!!!! I was worried he was going to do it much sooner, but sounds like he may be "trying" for awhile. I thought maybe once they started trying, they could crawl right after. Whew, relief!!!

Mustang- That second pic of Kyle is so freakin'' adorable.

So Cal- Your 4 day old pic of E is great- what a good looking newborn!! O was weird looking. I will post some later.

Blen, dust to your husband! I hope to hear good news soon!

So, I think daycare went worse for Claire than I expected.
7.gif
The teacher asked if she had difficulty latching onto a bottle, which I didn't think she did, but maybe she does; it's not like we give her bottles all the time at home. My mom tried to give her a bottle two weeks ago and said she thought Claire wasn't latching on, but I attributed that to grandma-error and the fact that I was present. But then last week I fed Claire a bottle and she took it just fine when I put her in her seat (she wriggled and turned toward my breast when I held her in my arms, which I figured was because I was the one giving her the bottle, not a problem with the bottle itself.) Or maybe the problem was that I moved up to size 2 nipples without trying them first, but I kind of doubt it. That should have made her get the milk faster. The teacher said it took her an hour to give Claire 3 ounces, and that's all she had all day (5 hours). I had brought 8 ounces figuring she would eat twice.

Question: so, the second bottle that Claire didn't eat had been defrosted from the freezer stash. Is it still good for tomorrow? The daycare said they're no longer allowed to keep bottles for the next day, but if the milk is still good, I'll just bring back the old bottle tomorrow. Is there any reason why defrosted milk would have a shorter shelf life than expressed milk that's remained in the fridge the whole time?

When I picked Claire up, she was really lethargic. I often wake her from a nap to eat, and she wakes up, stretches, and smiles at me. But at daycare she barely stirred and kept sleeping in my arms and then in the carseat at home, which usually makes her uncomfortable. It seemed like she was like, well, if they're going to leave me in this strange place and nobody is going to feed me enough, my only defense is to cocoon.

Hopefully tomorrow will go better. We're off school again, so I think we'll try another half day and see if she'll take the bottle better. I'm bringing her old newborn bottles to see if that helps, plus I had bought a pack of size 3 nipples figuring I'd need them some day, so I'm washing those tonight.

ETA: So, what I've read online is that you're supposed to use defrosted milk within 24 hours because the freezing process makes it lose some of its bacteria fighting properties. But the milk was just thawed overnight last night and was still partially frozen this morning, so I am guessing it would probably be ok tomorrow (I'll definitely smell it first). But please tell me if you think this is a big no no and I should just chuck it!

Here''s one of Daisy at 1 week and then last Friday at 8.5 months.

The clothes thing is ridiculous... I measured her again today and she was just under 66cm, so she is definitely small at the moment! Sha, no chance of her being petite with my family''s genes!

Loving all the photos - George looks so like you Blen! Dust to your DH for the job.

Have been a bit MIA - had some computer nightmares - hard-drive failure... uggghhh... - and have been busy hielping a friend through a difficult time: he got married to his GF of 11 years on Dec 4th in the Caribbean, got back from honeymoon on the 19th and she walked out on xmas eve and he hasn''t heard from her since... he is the sweetest guy and is just devastated. We have gone over and over everything and it is just unbelievable. I think she may be seeing someone else, but why the heck would you go through with the marriage? Poor guy is falling apart and I''m doing what I can to help - which isn''t a lot!

Anyway, will catch up soon!

pandaisycomp.jpg

PG --ohh! that''s the barking detterant that you use! Maybe I''ll get one for my own dog
20.gif

Amber, I wouldn''t keep feeding on the side the produces more, cause then it will just make more. I have been trying to even mine out too. one way I thought was working was to stsrt on the less producing side, empty it and then finish on the more producing side whether or not it gets finished. But if you do get too uncomfy I think the best thing is to hand express a little bit, or pump a tiny bit off the top.

Blen- good luck to your hubby!!! dust, dust, dust!

Well, here''s a comparison where you can actually see Wesley--
