PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

ginger re: a lb in a week, i am so jealous! hehe. what did your pedi say? if they are not worried then i wouldn't be either. ours wants J to gain more than he is right now so i have the opposite problem. and i agree re: stopping before they are 'drunk'... if J isnt comatose he just fusses and roots. he is getting better about not JUST doing that and being more alert in between as well but i love the milk drunk.

re happiest baby on the block, i have 2 mom friends who swear by it. i have the DVD they gave me but i havent watched it yet.

tao re: bathing, we havent given J a real bath yet just sponges. my mom is like 'but babies LOVE the bath' so she wants us to get a tub and try it soon. i feel like sponge is so much easier and quick, less than 10 min to clean him up. the tub prob will be fun when he can enjoy it more...but we'll see! have a fun time and don't worry about a drink or two! i had a drink the first night we went out and was like this is GREAT. oh and i have 1/2 a fruit beer every other night to help increase milk supply.
3.gif

rps..interesting re: the white vs brown fat cells. i kind of feel like J is so active all the time with his fussing and squirming around that he is prob BURNING cals he eats! haha. either that or he has greg's metabolism which is pretty fast!

pandora, so cute re: the dancing to the music! J loves music, we play classical for him all the time and when we are in the car i will listen to 90's and 80's on satellite and he totally zones out and loves it. i used to listen to music really loud in the car and did zumba when he was in womb so maybe he remembers it.

so last nite i fed J off the boob and then we gave him what ended up being 3oz of formula mixed with chamomile tea. i meant to just give him like 1.5 but i overdid it and then the kid sucked it down like no tomorrow and slept like the dead for 3.5 hours soooo i can't really complain. hahaha. but we don't plan to give him THAT much at night. then again my boob felt like he drained it a little fast so maybe i produced a bit less last nite than typical. anyway last nite we got a 3.5 hour and a 4 hour chunk of sleep from our guy, so i would be ecstatic if he stays on that schedule, no more of this wakey wakey in 1.5 hours! he slept one extra hour this morning and now he's fussing in the bouncer even though he's yawning. love the fighting of sleep.

greg went back to work this week and has been taking the middle of the night feeding since it's bottle. he says he loves the 'boy time'... but last nite he was so tired that i got up and did it. this morning he was all guilty, but i know he's doing a lot with work and trying to help too. i told him dont worry i will make sure to take advantage of you this wkd and go out for an afternoon of shopping or something!
3.gif

i am also pumping a little bit more in between feedings since he is a lazy eater and i am wondering if he is just not signaling to my body that we want more milk! so we'll see. i am sitting here eating my steel cut oatmeal and drinking my mothers milk tea like a good little moo cow.

ETA..CDT super cute pic!! and tao i love the pic of E in his romper.

Cute pics, all!!

Tao
, glad to hear you''ll be staying. I can''t keep up either, so I just tend to respond to a couple of things and them ramble about me.

Mandy - I also really like that you dress them as individuals, and that you make sure to post pics of both of them each time even though they''re identical.

PG- Woot!

To whoever said that I could sell stuff on Etsy (forgot to respond earlier, and now can''t remember who) - thank you so much, but usually when I sew it turns out terribly! I can do straight lines (pillow cases, crib skirt/bumper), and through a ton of effort managed to get the patch right, but I''ve had so many failed projects I don''t even want to count them.

G''s morning nap was a whopping 15 min long and I couldn''t convince him to go back to sleep, so this afternoon may be hellacious.

And apparently the spotting has turned into AF, about 4 days early.

Morning ladies!

Cute pics everyone!

Pandora: Poor Daisy!

Ginger: Congrats on the 1lb weight gain! I know Piper went from 18.5 inches (my poor midget baby) to 21 in two weeks post birth. Maybe it''s just a growth spurt?

Anchor: I hope you find a good balance to Jacob''s eating!

Mara: Love the pics of your little man.

My confession (of sorts): My BFF just got a BFP after a miscarriage last year. Her baby was to be due this week, so I''m THRILLED she got the positive. Now, though, my baby fever is BAD. My two best friends and I totally had our pregnancies all out of whack- my other BFF had hers 11 months before Piper was born, now the other BFF is having her baby 11 months AFTER Piper is born. Since Paul and I just agreed on waiting 2.5 years for baby #2, I''m DYING. I miss being pregnant, and want to be pregnant with a friend! Ugh. I''m a loser.

A pic of Piper sleeping.

Loving the baby pics as usual!

I posted my Mommy Confession of the day in fiery''s thread about mistakes: My Confession is that Dalila fell AGAIN onto a tile floor. This time she rolled off the bed (I''d never seen her roll before!) when I was in the bathroom, and fell on the side of the face.
39.gif
38.gif
It was a horrible, horrible moment.
7.gif
Thankfully, she seems okay so far.

On a lighter note, here''s my contribution to BPF. This picture of Dalila just cracks me up.
9.gif
She was staring directly into the camera lens at the time.

dalilafunny.jpg

omg sha that is the cutest pic!!! yikes re rolling off the bed!!

amber haha you are so funny...girl you can be pregnant for me too next time cuz i ain''t doing that again!!! (and i know people say famous last words but i am serious. one is enough! hehee). love the piper pic.

i forgot my confession but i don''t really know what it would be. there''s a huge list HAHAA. well the one for today i guess is that because the newborn photographer is coming at 11 i need to stuff J full of food to make him totally comatose so we can hopefully get some good shots. i fed him at 7am and he passed out so i put him down. then i pumped because i was so full from nighttime. well he woke up at 8 acting hungry. OOPS. so i fed him a mostly empty boob as a snack, and he''s been fussing nonstop for the last 2 hours but i didn''t want to feed him or make him sleep because i want him passed out for the photo shoot.
3.gif
so i''ve been shuffling him back and forth between arms, boppy, bouncer to try to pacify him with no food yet. poor kid!! he prob thinks his hand IS producing milk at this point. ok, that said, i am off to start feeding him til he hopefully is soooo milk drunk he doesn''t care what kind of weird spandex tube the photographer will put him in. wish me luck.

oh and re: the threadmoving fast, it def does. if i miss 1/2 a day its already on a new page. i agree re: posting what you can as you remember and then just rambling on about your kid and yourself LOL. did you guys ever figure out what to do about splitting threads or did that convo just die off?

mtj - phew! glad someone else is also on the porker track -- makes us feel less alone! lol. did you post pics of your little angel? i don''t remember seeing any?

tao - aww...love daddy and baby pics! we have a ton. none with mommy yet until she looks and feels more human

9.gif
enjoy your night out!!

rps - that is really interesting about the brown and white fat cells. i''m encouraged that i can get him off the formula because my supply is def increasing, although i REALLY wish it would flow FASTER y''know? it takes me 30-40 minutes to really empty out the boobers. any tips on encouraging faster flow?

1.gif
with the feedings we figured out the faster flow vs breast thing. we are using a slow flow nipple, but its still faster than breast i''m pretty sure. we''re making him take a lot more burp breaks and usually he likes to take a major poo break after 2 oz so then we do a diaper change and play for a little while then inevitably he roots like mad again for another 1-1.5 oz before he chills and zonks. and let me tell ya, this little guy gets MAD during these burp breaks. he is an impatient eater that''s for sure! lol on sleep BFing. jealous too
5.gif
and it''s not a confession unless there is guilt and i see no reason why there would be guilt. afterall kk donuts are almost all air anyway. yummy sweet glaze covered fried air
3.gif

anchor - seems we have similar problems. see above post to rps for what we''re doing. not sure if it''s effective yet, but it seems logical?

pandora - poor bebe. hoep she feels better soon! and love love dancing babies, so cute!

cdt - love his big big eyes!!

mara - the pedi wasn''t concerned. he told us a minimum of 6 oz per week, but more is ok. our little overachiever went for double that! but the pedi told us he is going to pork out initially then burn it off once he''s more mobile. and since hubbs and i are on the slim side, he is less likely to have the genetic tendency etc... hopefullly he''ll get hubbs metabolism, which is insane, and i won''t have to worry. i had the dvd for awhile and didn''t watch till last night despite my friends swearing up and down by it. now i kind of wish i had watched it earlier. makes me feel i have some tools on hand to soothe him. A hasn''t shown a tendency to be a crier yet, but you never know. lol on the photog/milk drunk reflex! good luck on pics and be sure to post!!!

fruit beer/milk supply - what is this? i''m intrigued... must google.

amber - don''t they look like little angels when they sleep?

sha - awww...!

First off, Congrats CDT!

No new pics for me this week. I have been really bad about taking pics lately. I get so frustrated becuase E is such a smiley, happy boy, and as soon as I get the camera out, he gets this totally serious face. So he looks upset in all his pictures!

My confession for the day: I probably keep up E later at night than I should. He doesn''t go down until 9 something, but lately that means he''ll sleep until 6 something (although this morning he woke up at 5:45). I am worried that if I move up the bedtime, I will be moving up the wake-up time. I know everyone says that is not true, but I am just getting used to getting some sleep, and I don''t want to mess it up. And it means I actually get to spend some time with him when I get home from work.

2 Confessions for me this Friday:

1. I did not tell daycare that Olivia had pinkeye. They have a policy where you have to keep them home a certain number of days and bring a dr. note if they have certain illnesses. I called my pedi over the weekend and he phoned in a prescription for me. I asked him when she would no longer be contagious. He actually said that she could go back Mon. b/c she would have been on antibiotics for 24 hours. I kept her home Monday to be safe, I would never send her to daycare if she was still contagious, but I do not have a bunch of extra days to take off from work with no reason and I never went to the dr.''s office and didn''t feel like hauling her over there to get a note.

2. Because both DH and I work and get so little time with Olivia, we try to make our evening hours with her really meaningful - reading books, singing, playing games, etc. Last night I was so tired I just plopped her in my lap in front of the tv for an hour. She loves the tv because she''s at the stage where she loves all lights, and I told myself at this stage tv is no difference than a light up toy.

I love BPF! All our babies are so beautiful.

My confession is that I forgot to put a washcloth on Jacob''s weewee once while changing him... I lifted his bum to clean him and he peed on his face! He was so surprised... I laughed my a$$ off. Bad mommy! lol

Thanks all for the advice on milk quantities. The parenting book they gave me at the hospital says they need about 700ml-800ml (24oz-27oz) from 6 weeks to 6 months. Since I feed Jacob 6-7 times a day, the maximum he would need per feeding is 4.5oz... So he''ll get his 5oz every night and that''s it. We gave that to him yesterday at 8:30PM and he was down for the night at 9PM until 3AM. If he skips a feedingand sleeps so well, he can''t be that hungry right? PG - I''ll be home for a year so I didn''t see the need to invest in a bigger pump and bought a single one. I pump about 1½oz-3oz each time between feedings, there''s no way I can pump 7+oz everyday without spending all day nursing or pumping! I decided I would pump 3 times a day, we''ll give him his 5 oz and I''ll freeze the rest if there''s any.

Here's my contribution to BPF, little Jacob at 8 weeks. Kama said something about a Habs fan? Since mommy's a Sens fan, so he got a Sens bib. haha
2.gif

ETA: Sorry my pic in sideways!

jacob8semainesweb.jpg

ginger re: fruit beer. i don''t like and don''t drink beer but i DO like this belgian fruit beer called Lambic. it tastes like cider. anyway greg got me like 100 little bottles at bevmo after i told him that beer helps your supply lol. so he makes me drink a 1/2 bottle every other day and would do it more hahaa it basically tastes like cider. there are about 10 diff flavors (peach, apple, black currant, cherry etc).

Ginger-Hey girl! No, I have only posted 1 pic in the preg thread! I need to post our pro pics but I am having trouble re-sizing!
14.gif

My dad said he would watch E tonight! He is obsessed with Evan so he jumped at the chance! So now I can drink a little bit more guilt free.

Amber: I''m ready to be pregnant again also! I saw a pregnant lady the other day taking garbage out to the dumpster and I got jealous! haha

Sha: Love the picture...it looks like she is realllllly concentrating on the camera lense trying to figure it out.

Ginger: I have barely any pictures of me and E also. I feel like I look terrible and it''s 4 months out! I did pretty myself up one day and took a few pictures...just to prove I was there when he was younger! hehe.

We bathed Evan up on top of the kitchen counter....It was still difficult--not physically...but just being able to control him--he was kicking all over the place. I''m definitely moving him into the tub next time just to lessen the clean up time. I was sopping up the kitchen floors yesterday with a massive amount of towels!

Not sure if I told this or not on here....
And, not that it''s that important---but I''ve been working at the same job for like 10 years and they have put us away in the back of the kitchen in this dark little cubby space and they said, "This is your office." I was bored the other day at work so as a joke, I typed up a cute little proposal for an office space in our area. I mean full on construction with putting up walls and doors and windows and getting furniture. My Director took it to the GM and she approved it!!! I went out today with the Director and picked out the office furniture. The construction part should be starting soon! I can''t believe my little half ass joke actually worked!
I''m pretty proud of myself--because even though it was half-assed and I figured they would laugh at it, I did put some serious research into it with facts and figures.

Congrats on the office Tao - quite an achievement!

Loving all the pics - I have one for BPF but I need to edit it still so will stick it up over the weekend.

Back from the doctor''s. The urine sample tested negative, and he checked her over completely and said she had a very fine rash, a pink throat and a high temperature plus a nasty dose of nappy rash... verdict: non-specific virus that will take a few days to go away.

So I just keep on with Calpol and water for the fever and he prescribed some Titanium Dioxide cream for the nappy rash.

Mind you, I felt a total fraud at the doctor''s office. I''d been given an emergency appointment and there was my baby bear, rushing round the place like a mad thing laughing and squealing, a picture of health...
20.gif

DH is also ill - nasty dose of man-flu - and to make matters worse, we drove the whole way across London to his brother''s this evening as my IL''s were staying with them and we were all going for dinner... only to find that it''s next week not this....
14.gif

Pandora: Ha, I hate to compare Daisy to a dog, but my dog used to to do the same thing! He would limp around with a hurt pay, whimpering and everything...go to the emergency vet and he would jump up on the seats in the waiting room and everything. He would make total liars out of us!

Tao, enjoy your drinks tonight! And good job on the new office!

Perhaps my mommy confession should be that I don''t think twice about drinking anymore. I never drink more than one or maybe two drinks, but I have a glass of wine most nights. It doesn''t give me pause any more.

Amber, congrats to your friend! Our best friends are pregnant too . . . Claire turns however many weeks old on Fridays, and they they "turn" the same number of weeks pregnant three days later. It helps me always remember how far along they are! But yeah, I feel like we''ll never be in sync with pregnancies now. Except my sister had her Oops Baby four weeks before Claire, so there''s always that!

Mara, we never did decide to split. Nobody wanted to be "graduated'' earlier than they were expecting, and the newbies wanted the old vets around to answer their questions, so we just maintained the status quo. BTW, are you on FB? That''s made me feel so much closer to the ladies here.

Weight update: the scale is trying not to give up pounds, but I seem to be moving into the no man''s land between the 8s and the 6s. I hope I cross over the other side soon as size purgatory is no fun. I just moved to notch 3 on my "fat belt" (notch 1 was a stretch at first). The size 8 Old Navy Jeans I bought 2 weeks ago went from tight to loose over night (with washings in between). I got into a pair of old size 6 work pants this morning, but the way my butt looked like the Incredible Hulk about to burst out of his clothes is nothing I want teenaged boys looking at. A really old pair of J Crew jeans that are an 8 still don''t fit (the butt!), but it''s possible they are so old that they are from before the companies made their sizing more generous; they are button-fly and an out-of-style color after all. But I still have lost barely 10 pounds since a week postpartum and have 20+ to go. Will I ever wear the 2s again? Certainly not in time to need my 11 pairs of size 2 work pants
20.gif
. I''ll just need to dress business casual when I''m a SAHM!

Diaper Rash: Okay, I am so impressed I thought I'd do an update. Over the last few days Daisy had got a fairly extreme nappy rash where the skin wasn't just red but it was starting to ulcerate as well. Literally everytime she peed, she would be screaming her head off and cleaning her and putting a new nappy on was a faily traumatic fight.

Anyway, the GP prescribed her a nappy rash cream called 'Metanium' which has 20% titanium dioxide, 5% titanium peroxide and 3% titanium salicylate. You only need a tiny bit and you just apply a very thin coat.

I started using it at 7pm last night. I had to change her 5 times during the night and each time I applied a new layer. It's now nearly 11am and the rash is practically gone. The skin isn't all red and inflamed and the ulcers have all healed up. Not bad for 15 hours!

So, if anyone is having problems with diaper rash, this product is amazing - I got it on Rx, but I did notice that it's available OTC here in the UK.

Last night was pretty fun! We went over to my boss''s house and had some drinks there with about 12 other people. My boss and his wife have an almost 6 week old baby...and another lady had an 8 month old child...so we had fun drinking and sharing mommy stories and playing Super Mario Brothers on the Wii.

I missed E like crazy though....I''m normally okay with giving him up to someone to watch for a few hours---but all day at work yesterday I was missing him like crazy....just kinda hit me.

The one good thing about him sleeping over. I woke up around 8 a.m. (That''s now considered sleeping in....wow!) and had time to do a deep cleaning on the apartment! I managed to do every room except for the master and the master bath....I even did two loads of laundry! Super proud of myself....about to bake a cake for my husband and then off to resign our lease and then to pick up my little man!

Pandora: I''ll have to look around to see if we have it here in the States...E hasn''t had a diaper rash yet---but it''ll happen eventually I''m sure.

Facebook is the best with PS....I''ve been thinking of holding off on posting whatever picture I''m planning on posting on here for Picture Friday though...so there is some element of surprise...haha.

Need some help, ladies!

Piper has a red rash under her chin(s) mostly on the middle to the right side. I put aquaphor on it, but what should I do? It''s hard to keep it totally dry because she''s got chubs. Any advice?

Daisy got this when she was about 3-4 months due to drooling so much while she was teething. She was a faily ''well covered'' small baby and had several chins at that point which made it much harder to keep it dry.

What I did was to use Burt''s Bee''s Baby Bee Apricot Oil after her bath and make sure to rub it in well under her chin. Then I used the Burt''s Bee''s Baby Bee Skin Cream on top - it''s fairly thick and waterproofs well. I tried loads of things - even used diaper cream at one point which does work pretty well!

I thought Daisy was getting eczema as it looked so nasty and took her to the doctors to have it checked out. Once she stopped drooling it went away. Using bibs didn''t help much unless you can change them them as soon as they get damp.

happy Saturday all!

two milestones for us: first is that J slept 6.5 hours last nite! it's a record. i put him down at 10, a few times during the night i heard him start to make noises, but i just put on his sleep sheep and he went back off. he didn't actually wake up to fuss until 4:30! greg fed and changed him and put him back down at 5:15 and he slept til almost 9am (again 2x i had to put the sleep sheep on for him). so yay for that. i don't think it means tonite will be the same, in fact tonite will prob be the exact opposite just to keep us on our toes, but it's progress. also last nite was the first night he did not have a poopy diaper at all from 10pm to 9am. so maybe his digestive system is changing, thankfully, since i think a lot of his night wakeups had to do with poop stuck on his butt rather than starvation. so we'll see!

second is that i put him down in his crib for a nap and it only took about 10 min to get him to nod off. we'll see how long he naps, his 'day' naps are shortening significantly...from 10am to about 3pm he only wants to take 15-30 min catnaps here and there even if i know he is tired, and then at 3pm he usually sacks out for 3 hours. but since we want him to sleep a little less during the day, we'd rather him fuss at 10am or 2pm than at 2am!

on a weird note, he has a blister on his upper lip, right at the middle dip. we think it might be from sucking on the pacifier or something, he tends to get 'crazy' on it, i think trying to make it produce milk, and we're thinking the friction might have caused it. has anyone's LO's had something like this? i am going to google on it, but i just hope it doesn't pop because i am sure then it will be painful for him as opposed to it just draining. ugh. it is a 'soft' looking blister, not totally filled full with liquid, but odd.

i was able to leave him with G today for a few hours while i went to get waxed (a necessity!!) and ran a few errands, it was so wonderful to be in the real world sans kiddo for a little while! and tonite we are going to a going away party for Greg's boss's boss who is moving his family to India to work for a while, then we'll have dinner. my mom will watch the baby. i really am so grateful for my family being closeby, it makes it so easy for us to get out for a bit. also my mom will be the one watching J when i go back to work for a few months this summer so i really want her to get immersed in caring for him while i am around so that she is totally confident with him FT this summer.

tao so happy you had a great night out!!

pg i am like you in that i don't think about drinking at all...i am not a big drinker anyway but i will typically have 1 drink while out for dinner or similar, plus there's the fruit beer thing!
5.gif

pandora that diaper cream sounds amazing! i wonder if we can get some in the US. i'll have to look.

re: weight and clothes... my pants still don't fit me but i have done NO exercise (well a bit of walking). my tops all fit fine but most did during pregnancy too. i have lost 23 lbs and have 13 lbs to go. my belly is almost totally gone though which is great, it just needs some toning. but it's really my thighs/butt that need the work...my latin genes i guess. anyway i am going to see if my mom can come by after work 2x next week to relieve me so i can hit the gym for the first time in MONTHS! i am super excited. i have my 6 week f/u to get the all clear on hard core working out in about 1.5 weeks but in the meantime i will just do elliptical and tread at the gym til the dr says i can go back to doing zumba. i haven't bought any new pants but i guess i should get 1-2 pairs of cheapie jeans at AE or something. my charlotte pants fit and my juicy sweats fit so i have just been wearing that stuff but at some point i might need to put REAL pants on. thankfully i don't go back to work for another 2.5 months so by then i should be back in my pants, and if not i'll worry about it then! but i am super motivated to get my hips back into shape because i have WAY WAY too many pairs of expensive jeans to let them go to waste!!

Thanks, Pandora. I put the Burts Bees diaper cream, but I''ll put the apricot oil on. Thanks!!

Mara: The blister on the upper lip is completely normal...I think it''s called a pearl something or other...can''t remember now. It is from sucking. Evan still gets them from time to time but definitely not as often as when he was a newborn.

Put vasaline on it to keep the moisture off the skin.

Mara Hunter had it, it is from nursing and it is normal!

thanks ladies..! i googled and found the same thing, apparently the blister is common for nursing infants, who knew! he ended up rooting on his blanket tonite and popping it. i was worried about it hurting him when we next nursed but i shouldn''t have worried, the kid grubbed like a champ.

on another note, i have been drinking the mothers milk tea and i think it''s helping production. i drink 2 tea bags in one mug per day and i swear it seems more effective more quickly than the beer, oatmeal etc i''ve been doing.

hey ladies....well it looks like a chemical....negative test this morning. I had a feeling since I never got a strong positive, just faint lines. I''m assuming AF will show her ugly face soon.

Definitely wish things had gone differently, but I guess it just wasn''t meant to be. I guess we really were crazy to want a baby so soon after our first

Awe, cdt, I''m so sorry!

7.gif
sorry cdt, so very sorry!!!
But I still don''t think you are/were crazy!....so if/when you feel ready again, go for it
