We were looking at 1 carat stones, I was secretly hoping for 1.3 - 1.5
11.gif
however he blew me away with 2.42 carats.

Yesterday he told me that he wishes he went down one color grade to get 3 carats. No thank you! Very pretty, but I think people would be constantly be questioning if it was real and that would annoy me.

Funny how I wear my stainless steel ''crap'' wedding band more often than I wear my diamond bands

Why ??

are you wearing the 2.42 ct ?

I thought the general rule was "one carat for every year he made you wait" ?

Am I right?

Actually, in my case that''s exactly what happened! We dated for about 1 year and 9 months before getting engaged, and the diamond was approximately 1.75ct. It must be the rule. I should have convinced him to wait longer...

Well...

I once told SO there should be ''interest'' for making me wait. LOL.

In all honesty, though? I have no idea how big my ring will be. No preference or expectations, either. Other couples we know have ended up with a huge range (0.5 - 2ct) of sizes. I figure we''ll end up around 1ct or so? I will be happy with anything, as long as it''s shiny

My SO is amazing and i''m sure I would love my ering even if he gave me a twist-tie with a wad of gum stuck to the top of it. lol

No wonder outsiders think we are all "gold-digging wh***s"!

He''s playing it safe so he can win.

I mean, come on - this is so tame compared to his usual inflammatory pot-stirring questions.

I know. I think we gave him too much warning. *Sigh*

Either that, or he''s lost it, if this is the best he can come up with. I expected more, I have to admit it. Something like... "LIW, did you check your self respect at the door." Or "What would you do if your SO called you materialistic because of your harping on a ring." But no, I was doomed for disappointment.

To answer the question. I TOLD my husband that I expected AT LEAST 2 carats, but he dissapointed me, and I was so desperate for a MAN, I settled for 1.1 carats and checked my self respect at the door.

C''mon DF! You can do better!!!!

Okay... so that's just not TRUE. It's not for 35 and under-- it's for anyone who is waiting for a proposal (male or female, younger or older). And you DID respond to my post and I'm NOT an LIW and I AM a HO groupie. SO THERE

Sh**!!! I wish I knew about this one! I should be sporting a 4ct rock, not a 0.78 tiny !!

After trying on rings recently my desired carat weight change, I originally wanted something over 2 carats preferably closer to 3, but now I want at least a carat with the option to trade up in the future to something closer to around 2

FF initially said "Nothing under 2 carats will do," but since I''ve been trying rings on and have seen what diamond sizes look best on my finger, I don''t really want anything more than 1.5. I hope he''s not stuck on "bigger than 2 carats" thing...
1.gif

After trying on rings, I really wanted 1.5 carats, which was within his budget. However, compared to what some of his friends'' wives have, he thought it looked "small," so I ended up with a 2 ct. Trust me, I''m not complaining about the 2 ct, but I would have also been very happy with 1.5 carats. We dated for 2 years before we got engaged, so maybe that "carat a year" rule is true ;)

If that each year=a carat rule, by the time we get engaged I should have a 6-7 carat diamond! BUT I''m expecting between 1-1.5 and yes he will propose with my dream ring, seeing how we picked out the setting together...

IDOC,
Hopefully soon. I know he has the ring...right?
I think its infuriating when men hold the ring hostage. My finance, who proposed a week ago, confessed he used to play with the ring while I was out.
