Queen Elizabeth is seriously unwell :(

What a shame @dk168, we used to live near Windsor so have visited the castle many times with US guests. Hopefully, there’ll be another opportunity for you to visit.

@Austina - the second time we lived in England, we were in Surrey. My husband's cricket team was in the same division as a team fielded by the house staff at Windsor castle, so he played there a few times, on the grounds, in the castle cricket field. They were terrible cricket players on the whole, but - by golly! - they used to put on an awesome afternoon tea!

Well I have been glued to the funeral today. It was so very emotional & sad. To see her coffin have the Imperial Crown, Septre & Orb removed, as her role in their ownership is now over, then watch her coffin being lowered into the vault below the Chapel was too much. King Charles alsomst crumbled. Urgh.

I got one wrong - the one about Sarah Ferguson.

DK :roll2:

Gary just did the big daily quizz we do twice a day
i told him the Queen had 6 grandchildren

Kirsty Young was evidently very emotional - she did well to hold back her tears!

It was a fitting funeral for a much-loved monarch.

Very emotional day for me for a number of reasons.

Normal self and service will resume in no time.

@Ally T , Do you know why they lowered the Queen’s casket into the vault. I’m sorry, no disrespect meant by this but it just felt awful seeing this. I have no idea how the King and the rest of her family were a able to keep it together watching this. Even if it were her final resting place couldn’t this be done after the family had left? It literally felt like torture.

I would be interested in knowing this too. Phillip’s funeral was held there too and his casket was left to be lowered after everyone had left the service. I assumed the same would happen today so I was shocked as well.

@Calliecake @MissGotRocks They lowered her casket because she is the Reigning Monarch. It's a ceremonial thing, whereby they remove her tokens of ruling office (the symbols that are given to the Monach upon Coronation Day ie Crown etc) & then lower the casket into the Vault. It's a symbol of finality & the end of the ruling period. As it was being lowered, they sang God Save The King & all eyes are on the new Monarch. Charles did well not to ball his eyes out. Ceremony or not, it was still his mother's funeral.

the family must be physically and emtionally exhusted, having to greive for your mother with the entire world watching over and over again
i went to bed durring the d rive to Windsor and i just couldnt sleep worrying about Camila who looked like she had the weight of the world on her shoulders
and also Edward and Sophie, Edward was the Queen's baby, they just looked devisatated, i felt like we were intruding when the cameras showed them crying

Yes, I watched it - thanks for the clarification about the lowering. I felt bad for all of her children having to hold back so much emotion and yet more than the queen, she was their mother. His eyes were red and you could see him keep swallowing. Then to top it all off, he is now the king with all of the trapping that go with it. Lots of heady stuff to deal with all at once!

I watched all day yesterday, as well as the ceremonies across the whole 10 days. I was constantly awed by the royal family's constraint of their emotions. After the televised ceremonies were over, I remarked that they all must be just exhausted, both physically and emotionally. I was relieved to hear this morning on the news that they now have a personal mourning period, where they do not have to perform any official duties.

I found this photo to be especially poignant. Charles looks so bereft. Incredibly hard to mourn your mum with the eyes of the world watching.

Elizabeth would be proud of the way her family conducted themselves in front of the whole world. I don’t know that I could have been that strong. I guess a lifetime of protocol had prepared them a bit but still . . .

Thank you @Ally T for the explanation. It felt very intrusive to watch what seems like should be a private moment for this family as they said goodbye to their loved one.

i felt the same way as you
the service at Windsor had never even been seen by the public before

my mum and dad arnt here to ask but i guess when King George vi died it was on the newsreels at the picture weeks latter and possibly on the radio ?

Yes. I felt the oddest sensation witnessing this, and I have nothing like the Royal Family reasons.

i think one of the crulets things is the scruteny over the pen the King had trouble with :(2
thats not a temper, that's tirestness and grief

memorial service today
the order of service is inked in this article
its a beautiful sunny day after a very stormy wet start to spring

We’ve had friends staying for the last 10 days, so I didn‘t get to see the whole funeral until yesterday. Everything was just so perfectly done, it made me feel proud to be British. I recognised the route to Windsor once the car came off of the M25, I used to live near there, and if I had still been living in England, I’d have definitely gone to see her Majesty on her way to her final resting place.

I don't think anyone can do a funeral like the British @Austina . I was quite amazed and impressed by how well it was done.
