That foster is seriously cute - where did he come from and where did he end up? Are there, perhaps, more pictures of the tabby cuteness pretty pretty please

I do..I''m going to finish this paper and I''ll put them up tonight. I do have pics of the little tabby. She went to a good home with my departmental secretary, actually, whose cat died last year. There is a whole story, I''ll post it later--suffice to say there was also a Siamese who went to the ASPCA in there too. It was a very multi-cat house for a few days!

OK, I just got up from a 20 minute nap. I picked up Chen and took him to lie down with me. The silly Raggy stayed in my arms the WHOLE TIME, purring! What a cat.

silly kitty!

She ended up named Rose by her new owner, our dept secretary. I had been feeding a stray to get it to trust me enough to lure it into a carrier, but the stray (a Siamese mix) went roaming for a few days, and this little girl showed up at the food bowl.

So I didn''t have the heart to leave her there, and she was hungry enough to follow the food into the carrier. Big, pus-filled eye infection which miraculously cleared up on its own with heat and food before I could get the critter to the vet 2 days later! Vet said she could see NO sign there was even a problem.

I locked her in the bathroom until she tested clean for leuk. and AIDS, and we vaccinated/dewormed/deflead her.

tabbybaby.jpg

She would follow him around adoringly to see what he would do, and he played with her all the time.

CHen, on the other hand, did NOT approve. He retreated to the high ground, held it, and hissed at the wee thing whenever she walked by.

you can see her eye here, this was the first day in my bathroom. No one wanted a sick cat though so I was trying to pick the pictures which showed her eye the least in my email, since I KNOW that a touch on conjuctivits is easy to clear up...

awwww, sad baby.

I totally want to bury my face in Chen''s adorable furry tummy, and Mr. MC and the kitten are just adorable together. I love that they made friends, and how wonderful that you were able to rescue that sweetheart and find her a good home - I truly think that is the most amazing thing, and stories like that always help restore my faith in humanity

Thank you thank you thank you for all the extra pictures - they are just darling, every single one, and what handsome boys you have!!

OH, RT, your kitties are gorgeous!!!!!! I love them all!

Whoa, MC is looking great, as is the new kitty. So healthy and full of energy compared to the earlier pictures when you first rescued them. RT, you are a great kitty mom.
36.gif

They look superb RT and MC looks to be such a grown up lad now!!! I was wondering how they all were!

Awww, thanks! They are giving me grief right now because their food didn''t get deliverd properly yesterday and I''m out...must go get some before they eat *me*
32.gif

They''re doing great--I did take MC to the vet recently about his coughing fits (don''t know if anyone remembers that) and she could only find that his white count was high in such a way that he either his allergies or a parasite. Hm. So, we can''t find a parasite, but we''re going to deworm him anyway (joy) and then...well, I''m not sure exactly.

RT I just love you for having such a big heart! It makes me so happy to hear another kitty is off the street and being loved. And such a beautiful sweet looking kitty baby too.

thanks fg ;-)

I am considering changing Chen''s name to Mr. Fuzzy. My mom named him Klong Chen Pa, which means Snow Lion in Tibetan...and he just isnt that graceful or dignified.

Most of the time, I address him as ''Mr. Fuzzy'' anyway...FI is not a fan tho!

I have a question for the kitty lovers here.

Do you or would you make your cat food?

DH and I are considering a Maine Coon or Ragdoll.
I''m willing to put the effort into making the food.
I''ve read an all dry diet is harmful.
Any opinions? Thanks.
We love the pictures of everyone''s darlings!

Hi bebe - congratulations on considering adding a kitty to your family. Definitely look into rescue, especially for Maine Coons - there are so many gorgeous sweet Maine Coons in rescue, it always makes me sad.

In terms of cat food, there was a really good thread on this a while ago - I started it, but a lot of experts and people who had really done their homework chimed in. I''d highly recommend checking it out for advice on what is best to feed your kitty. Here''s the link

I hope that''s helpful!!

AG,

Thanks so much for the link.
We will look into the rescue avenue.
Why are there so many MC''s in need?
I always thought their personalities
were sweet and docile.
I might be wrong, but I think I read
somewhere that they are even dog like at times!

bebe - unfortunately, the reason that dogs and cats end up in rescue has very little to do with their sweet temperaments. In the case of Maine Coons, as with many other breeds of dogs and cats, it has to do with unethical breeders producing too many animals and selling them to irresponsible owners without doing proper background checks on the owners or having contracts about returning the animals.

As is the case with any animal bred by an irresponsible breeder, if it doesn''t work out with the owner (you wouldn''t believe the reasons people get rid of their pets - everything from a baby on the way to moving to simply going on vacation and not wanting to deal with it), the pet ends up being dumped in the shelter system, where, hopefully, there is a rescue group willing to take it on or a spot for it at a no-kill shelter. Otherwise the animal is most often put to sleep through no fault of its own - we put over 7 million animals a year to sleep in the US, and a significant number of those are purebreds and many of them have perfectly lovely temperaments, there just aren''t enough homes to go around.

Purebreds sometimes have better odds because there are often rescue groups devoted to a given breed of cat or dog. Its particularly sad though because the animals that tend to get overbred its usually because they have such nice temperaments in the first place (MCs are a perfect example of this, as are Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers on the dog side of things).

MCs are lovely cats, from everything I''ve read and experienced. Highly intelligent and very social and affectionate. Definitely a lovely choice as a pet.

Anyway, sorry for my rant about shelter animals, but hopefully that is useful information. I look forward to hearing about your search and seeing pics of your new kitty when he/she comes home

Well, we visited friends out of town this past weekend, and took little Mr. Boo with us. He was such a good traveler and a good sport! Our friends have a Shihtzu AND a bird... and Boo was such a delight. He was quite *interested* in the bird
2.gif
but never in any kind of "aggressive" way. That sweet boy doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body! (And sometimes, he's so darn floppy, you wouldn't think he had any bones AT ALL!)

Anyway, I got a few cute pics, and just had to share.

(I know this one is a wee bit blurry, but I love it anyway!)
