What gorgeous cats! Here is my little Koko. She was an undocumented Maine Coon from a shelter but she lookes a lot like some of yours so I figured I'd post her pic anyway. She left us and joined the other pets at Rainbow Bridge almost exactly 2 years ago at age almost 17. She was a great cat. We now have 3 cats and a Siamese left.

What a lovely lady Miss Coco is - she is truly stunning and she looks like such a sweetie pie. I''m so sorry to hear that she passed on, but it sounds like she had a long and wonderful life. Thank you for sharing her picture and her story

AmberGretchen -

I love the markings on your sweetie - gorgeous!

And thanks for your thoughts on Koko.

Here is another pic of Koko, Abu [gray short hair] and Tigger [orange long hair]. Tigger is a very fluffy, long haired, big, floppy cat. I have no idea what he is [he and Abu are brothers]. I am sure he is not a Ragdoll but he sure acts like one!

OMG, what a beautiful kitty family! I LOVE that huge orange furball sprawled out by the fire - he just looks so blissfully happy and relaxed. VERY CUTE

Since this thread introduced me to ragdolls for the very first time, I figure that you guys should get the sneak preview picture of my new kitty!

We don''t get to pick him up until after Christmas, but I am SO excited.

Currently named Benson, likely to be renamed Miles or Coltrane. This is the only pic I have right now, because he is in Salt Lake City and I am in Colorado, but there will be LOTS more coming!

Congrats, BigDiamonds, on becoming a proud ragdoll owner! Kittens are so much fun. They can be pain in the neck but well worth it!
Your baby is adorable. Make sure you spend A LOT of time to bond with him in the first few days. They deserve all your attention.
Oh believe me, there will be no tearing me away from my new kitty! We are planning to have a little "party" planned for him on New Years Eve. We''re going to have lots of snacks and champagne for us, and lots of attention for him. I also need to find a little New Years hat for him, because that sounds like too cute of a picture to pass up.

OMG, congrats on your raggie!! He is so adorable, what color does the breeder anticipate him to be?
Thank you!!

He is going to be a blue mitted...the breeder also had a lilac boy that was SO cute, but he was a lot more and I couldn''t justify it. FI was pretending to be all indifferent to the color until I picked out the cutest seal mitted w/blaze (very similar to Bailey, btw, who is adorable). Then he finally admitted that he "sees" our cat being a blue, and he likes the little "shoes".

OMG too funny about your hubby! I love how men are like that - "sure honey, whatever you want" and then when it comes time to actually buy the item in question "well, now that I see it (or hear it or smell it or whatever), I''d actually like this-very-specific-version-of-the-thing" I love the idea of the party and the little New Year''s had - that is going to be one spoiled kitty!!

Thank you SanDiegoLady and AmberGretchen! I am SO excited to get him in my hot little hands!!!
36.gif

I was disappointed that I couldn''t find what I wanted closer to home, because it meant that that I had to choose him sight-unseen. But it kind of made the anticipation that much more fun...I haven''t been this excited since I was waiting for a diamond in the mail! (And that''s saying something

And if you really wanna know what "the experts" think of his parentage, you could post at Ragdoll Central (www.ragdollcentral.com) I bet they''d be happy to give you their opinions. Lots of breeders over there, and all really nice people. Omie turned me on to it, and now it''s my second favorite forum!!!

What an adorable "sack of potatoes" [sacco di patate]! [affectionate term used in Italy which is particularly appropriate to describe such a relaxed cat]

Okay, everyone, you''ve completely converted me with all these adorable pictures of your ragdoll kitties. I''ve never been much of a cat person, but BF is and recently he''s been talking about how much he''d like to get one. And then I found this thread and started falling completely in love with these little guys...and then he caught me looking at ragdoll breeders'' websites...and woke me up this morning asking if I''d really like to get a cat and where would we put the litterbox. Eek! I''m not sure if anything will come of it, but I am sure that it''s all your faults!!

Seriously, they are the most amazing cats. Boo is just so darn SWEET, and 100% adorable, and so *FLOPPY*! It''s hilarious. Remember the little curly-haired girl from the Peanuts cartoon strip that always had the cat slung over over arm... that cat must have been a Raggie!!!

Let me tell you: I was not even a cat person! Our apt only allows cats so I started looking and completely fell in love with ragdolls. They have such sweet personality and Bailey has totally enriched our lives.
Bailey''s hair is sooooo soft, he feels like a bunny. And how can you not fall in love with those round blue eyes? I swear, you''ll not regret your decision :) It''s good training before kids too.

Our building only allows cats, too. I always had small dogs growing up (various kinds of terriers) and I love some of the cat-like tendencies they have, so when I read many raggies act like "puppies in cat''s clothing" it sounded pretty perfect. Some people whose kids I used to babysit have a ragdoll and she was such a sweet cat...although I never saw her much because she tried to stay out of the way of the 8-year old and the Sheltie puppy, and I never blamed her a bit
19.gif

If we do decide to get one, I think we might look for a "retired breeder" rather than a baby. While it would be sad to miss the cute kitten stage, I don''t think we''d mind missing the energetic-and-sometimes-destructive kitten stage. A young adult cat who has had time to mellow a little would probably be a better fit for us right now. Has anyone here gone this route, or known someone who has? If so, are they really difficult to find? I haven''t seen any available right now in my geographic area, and I''m not sure how often they would be available.

OH! That''s a GREAT idea! I LOVE that idea, Octavia! Boo''s breeder had the most wonderful female that she had retired from breeding after she had a uterine infection and had to be spayed. The cat was only 4 years old (YOUNG!) and so loving and beautiful. I know a LOT of people LOVE getting an adult cat. Yes, the kitten stage is wonderful, but it is only temporary... and besides, when you get a fully mature cat, you really know a lot about its personality and temperament. OH! I hope you go for it!

BTW, I know I am starting to sound like a broken record
2.gif
but that Ragdoll forum I linked above has a special board just for advertisements and rescue animals... that would be a great place to start looking. Also, you could join the forum and post what you are looking for. They are nice people over there! I bet they''d find you a wonderful pet!!!

Keep us posted. I promise -- you won''t be sorry!!!

Octavia - as Lynn said, we are only to happy to enable new Raggie owners

I think your idea of getting a young adult is a fantastic one. They definitely go through a rambunctious/crazy/destructive phase, and I think its great that you know that and are interested in looking for an older cat to avoid that.

In addition to a retired breeder, a rescue might be a great choice for you. There are a fair number of Ragdolls (and other purebred cats, for that matter) in rescues, and most of them have been in foster homes, which means they know in great detail what those cats are like in a home environment, so you really know what you''re getting. Its a common misconception that cats and dogs in rescue organizations or shelters are somehow defective, and more often than not they are very sweet animals who were given up due to life circumstances of their owners or because their owners simply weren''t prepared for the responsibility of owning animals. There are also a lot of Ragdoll-like kitties in rescue - any reputable rescue organization should be able to find you a large, furry, floppy, friendly, sweet kitty!

Definitely check out the Ragdoll forum, and if you look through this thread, Omieluv posted some fantastic resources for Ragdoll rescue groups and other information about the breed. They were great links - its for sure worth looking through the thread for them (I think they were somewhere in the pages 6-8 range, though don''t quote me on that
2.gif
)

Anyway, I really hope that finding a kitty, whether Ragdoll or not, works out for you, and please let us know what other questions you may have - I''m sure everyone here is happy to help however they can.

Too funny DB - I think Ollie''s tail is almost as wide as he is too!

Last time we took him to the vet for a checkup, we got him out of the carrier, and the vet said "I''ve never seen a tail like that"

Tigger looks like such a sweetie pie - I bet he was a huge sweetie, its been my experience that orange tabbies often are. Our orange tabby girl is super-friendly, and our only true lap cat - I think she would spend all day on my lap if she could!

Not sure if your breeder explained this, but lilacs are very rare, which is why you were being charged more. Also be aware that many breeders claiming to have lilacs kittens most likely have blue''s. It is very difficult to distinguish between lilac and blue, especially in kittens, as their colors are not even close to being developed. To really know if the kitten is lilac, you have to look at the pedigree and even then, it can be hard b/c even in adult raggies, it can be difficult to distinguish between blue and lilac. Not saying that your breeder was wrong, but, just thought it might be worth mentioning for other people conducting their raggie research.
