Murry is 13, he was 12 when he had the skin issue. I used an old cortisone I had been prescribed for some eczema. I would think an over the counter one would be less strong but still work. Really I only applied the ointment about three times a week because I knew it was very strong. Do you know what is in the equine med?

Not exactly. I know it has skin protectants, vitamin e (I think) and some form of cortisone to deal with itching. Its also alcohol free (yay!)
I was going to Google the ingredients tomorrow. My neighbor told me that she uses it for her pups occasionally.

Kelinas! I am so sorry about this. Any chance you could get a second opinion from a different vet? Preferably one affiliated with a teaching university? I really hope it is an easily remediated issue and that your current vet is just wrong here. I hope your dear pup finds relief soon and recovers fully!!! Sending many good health vibes, PS dust and lots of hugs!!!

My pup is sick and not one person can tell me what's wrong her! We've taken her to 7 vets

She lost all her hair on her hind leg area...they look like turkey legs with the feathers plucked out
How she's starting to lose fur on her actual legs and stomach area, and lost it where her tail curls.

Did she go to a veterinary dermatologist? It made all the difference with Griffin. The dermatologist didn't guess. She took samples and put everything under the microscope. She identified every fungus and bacteria on my dog. When he reacted badly to one antibiotic she switched him to another. She stuck with him until he was cured. It took me a long, long time to believe that a veterinary dermatologist would be better than a regular vet, but she really was. I would try one if you haven't!

Just snapped 2 pics of my lazy fur babies...almost afternoon and look at them. Look at Bobby mid yawn. Poor thing so tired after a long day and night of doing well, very little. I swear, if reincarnation exists I want to come back as a well loved fur baby!!!

The last vet we went to said "she's just getting old. She'll probably die soon" people are just so wrong sometimes. My dog is certainly not young but you don't tell someone that! Our neighbor raises horses and she told me that she thinks its a case of rain rot (or a fungal infection) which is totally plausible since my dog prefers to sleep outside. She told me to shave the dog bare and treat it with equine medication. Tomorrow is Day one. Pup will hate me but gotta do it for her sake!

Kelinas, I hope your vet(s) figure it out and your dog feels better soon!

Haha, me too! My DH and I always talk about how jealous we are of Phinney and how much we want her life. Either she's sleeping all day or she's playing with her friends all day.

They have such a hard life don't they! Plush blankets, toys, body massages... Oh the hard knock life of a pet! Haha I even wrap them up in a blanket and put a pillow under their heads when they're sleeping. Spoiled rotten!

She kept pushing me off the couch but I didn't mind.

Maccers! I love that pic of Charlie during the fall staring up at you! Precious!

SMC, we have a California King bed and DH and I end up sleeping at the very opposite edges of the bed because the girls take allllll the room in the middle. The only reason why I don't fall off is cuz I am wrapped in my blanket. But I never have the heart to move them. They look so peaceful.

Custom cat playground under construction. Phase I -- floating shelves, a box and a 5' climbing pole from the floor to the bottom of the box. The box and pole are under construction.

Phase II is a walkway around the perimeter of the room near the ceiling, more shelves and a 12' climbing pole. I'll also attach some dangly toys from the boxes.

Juba helped and gave his approval of the work so far. Maliik and Taji were scared by the sound of power tools and decided to play scaredy cats.

I meant to do only a quick drive by of this thread to see how Kelinas' sick dog was doing, but your doggies' bare tummies got to me. I meant to comment on all the beautiful cats and dogs when I had time, but those tummies! Those tummies!!!!

She's OK. She's lost all trust in me since I'm always the one who delivers the medicine. She was running away the moment I was sweet talking her. I haven't managed to shave the area but I have managed to get the medication on her (prime rib is the ultimate bribe)
Now to repeat this twice a day for a week. Thanks for caring about her silly butt!

And ditto to everyone else's fur babies in this thread. I think I am melting from cuteness overload and that's hard to do in this minus farenheit weather.

Man, I'm sorry. My dog does the same thing when I get out the flea medication. I hope your dog feels better soon and you don't need to do this anymore.

This is Trudie. She is a black Lab. She has a litter of talking Care Bears that she takes care of. She always has at least one, and she rocks them back and forth, and falls asleep with them in her mouth. They say nice things to her like "I love you" and "I'm lucky to have a friend like you". It's the cutest thing ever

this is excellent!

My "nephew" Jet (black lab) chews the ones I give! Glad Trudy is a good "caregiver".....

Sharon, when she was a puppy she dismembered some of her toys, but never a CareBear.

He is a beauty, but he is such a naughty boy! He requires lots & lots of attention and he is a very vocal Siamese! His brother is a blue point and he just the sweetest cat ever! Of course, he has a tiny chirp of a voice!

What a wonderful and incredibly spoiled family of companion animals we have as part of the Pricescope family

We are installing the final pieces of the kitty playground today and cannot wait until the sound of the drill is silenced.

Matata..love your cats and the playground. My cats want to come live at your house! I was just saying to my DH the other day that I think I could live in a house that was full of high kitty walkways and tunnels, hide-aways and such.

I'm hoping that by giving them a room entirely to themselves, we can restore some normalcy to the rest of the home. Our house looks like a day care center what with all the cat trees, beds, and gazillion toys strewn about. I think I have gained official entry into Crazy Cat Lady category
