Hi Everyone!
The wedding and honeymoon were amazing! I''m waiting to start an official wedding thread until I have some more pics to put in it. We should be getting to see at least some pro pics early next week!
Our reception ended at 11, but DH and I were the last ones there making sure that we had everything we needed for the honeymoon and that we weren''t leaving anything behind.
I was originally going to change out of the dress and give it to my mom after the reception, but I really really didn''t want to and I convinced DH to let me wear it and leave it in its bag in the trunk while we were on our honeymoon. It was really hard fitting that ballgown into the passenger seat of his Nissan Maxima!
After leaving the reception we stopped at the hotel bar where DH''s family was hanging out for a little while and then headed on to the airport hotel where we were staying for the night. By the time we got checked in and repacked for the honeymoon (we had to switch some things that we''d brought with us for the wedding to the honeymoon suitcases) we had only 45 minutes before we needed to get up to make our flight! We were so exhausted. I definitely recommend taking at least a day in between the wedding and the honeymoon.
Our flight left at 6am and we arrived in St. Lucia at around 3pm. It then took about an hour to get to the resort. It''s a good thing neither of us gets carsick because it was sooooo windy!
When we finally got to the resort, we checked in and found that our room had been upgraded! When we got home we realized that it wasn''t that great of an upgrade. Only one level that cost about $25 more per night and we no longer had a real balcony. It''s ok though because we still had a great time and the room was beautiful.
The first night all we really had the energy to do was shower and go to dinner. We loved the food the first night. We ate at the caribbean restaurant.
The second day we signed up for our excursions and basically planned out the rest of the trip. This was the only day that we had nothing planned. It was so great to sit out at the pool all day.
Tuesday we went horseback riding on the beach and even go to take the horses out into the water. It was so much fun. DH forgot to put sunscreen on before we left though and they made us leave our bag at the horse ranch so we couldn''t put any on him before we got into our bathingsuits. He got pretty crispy
so he had to wear his swim/surf shirt for the rest of the trip when we were outside. His poor shoulders are peeling really badly now.
On Wednesday we took the discover scuba class. I already have my advanced certification, but DH had never been diving before. I hadn''t been since 2003 so it was either take a refresher course by myself and be able to go about 3 times deeper than he could or just take the class with him and only be able to go to 30 feet. I figured i didn''t want to dive without him anyway so we took it together. He was really scared until we were actually diving. Then he was really excited. It was so cute. The diving was definitely nothing compared to diving in the bahamas, but we still saw some cool stuff. We saw 2 eels (I''d never seen any!) and a bunch of parrott and trumpet fish.
While waiting to get back on the boat I got stung by something (jellyfish?), but I didn''t see anything in the water. My leg stung for a little while, but by the time we got back to the resort I was fine.
On Thursday we went zip lining through the rainforest. It was so much fun! The rainforest was definitely not what I expected though. I''d always pictured monkeys and parrots, but there weren''t any. No bugs either though. I think we probably only had 10 bug bites between us the whole trip. We had the best tour guide on our bus for this tour. He kept making the bus pull over so he could show us stuff. He got a cacao pod and cracked it open so we could taste the jelly like casing around the beans. It was really good. Fruity. The beans tasted nothing like chocolate at all. blegh. We also found out on Thursday that there''d been an earthquake. And we slept through it! I can''t remember where they said it was though and I can''t find anything about an earthquake except for one that was nowhere near us...
On Friday we decided to sleep in a bit and then check out the other two sandals. We were staying at the Regency so we first went to the Halcyon. We weren''t too impressed, but I found my new favorite drink: the banana lady! It''s like a banana daquiri from heaven. Mmmm. I had lots of these friday-sunday. We were really impressed with the Grande, but we''d had to wait 2 hours at the Halcyon to be picked up by the next shuttle so we were tired and left after just a half hour. It was really gorgeous though.
Saturday was the day that we took the Soufrierre adventure cruise. We cruised around the island, toured a drive in volcano, went to a botanical garden, saw diamond waterfall, snorkeled and I even entered a beer drinking contest on the boat (I lost. Lol.)! The snorkeling was only ok. It was the same spot we dove at on Wednesday. It would''ve been a lot better if our masks hadn''t kept fogging up. I don''t think they used any de-fog on them. As soon as we got in the water DH got stung by a jelly. His was a lot worse than mine, but not bad enough that he wanted to get out of the water. Even though we couldn''t see much it was still fun and we held hands the whole time. Partly to keep track of eachother and partly cause we just love holding hands
.
Our flight home was at 3:22 on Sunday, but we had to leave for the airport at 10 something. Our luggage had to be ready for pick up at 9:30 so the whole day was pretty much just travel. I did manage to get in a banana daquiri before we left though
.
I was so sad to leave. We had such a great time and I loved that we got to spend an entire week together without having to deal with stress or distractions. We got into Pittsburgh after 11 and found out that our only checked bag hadn''t made it on the flight with us from Atlanta. They ended up delivering it to DH''s work (in OH) yesterday.
Now for the pics:
